Jon Koerner The Download link does not work.

It takes user to Paragon website page where user can download 3 manuals for System Upgrade Utils 2010, but NOT the program itself.

Paragon Software Hi Jon,
Sorry for delay with answer.

We have no demo version for System Upgrade Utilities 2010, only manuals. Otherwise we would be created demo version with operations avaliable in the virtual mode only.

Jon Koerner There is no demo, so I have no idea what this software actually IS. Your descriptions above do not say what it is.

What exactly IS this software???

Does this app do anything to help migrate a user's existing data and software apps and OS settings to a new OS???

Is this thing a multi-boot manager? (which apparently also has the ability to re-partition drives & to make backup images of existing partitions).

If so, what exactly are its capabilities and limitations? How many OSs can it multi-boot? What are the requirements for installing an OS? Does it have to be on a primary partition? Do you workaround microsoft's 4 primary partitions maximum somehow? If so, how? Can OSs be on hard drives other than drive 0? Can they be on USB drives?

What about Linux partitions?

What if I already do have a multiboot system? How do you handle that? What assumptions does your app make? I don't want it destroying existing OSs because for example it assumed that I have only one existing OS on one partition, and acts on that wrong assumption.

What do you do with the boot sector and MBR?

Assuming you take over the boot sector and replace it, what happens when user does a non-destructive microsoft OS repair reinstallation, for example, and it overwrites the boot sector with its own? How can I get the Paragon multiboot system back?

Please explain what this software really is in standard terms instead of just describing how it can make it safe to try out Windows 7.

Paragon Software Dear Jon,
there is a very useful link to product website in its description. You can get here:
http://www.paragon-softwa...works.html
So, SUU can help to:
* organize multiboot system (up to 16 OSes)
* migrate existing OS from real hardware to virtual machine
* migrate existing OS to new hardware

The product has such features as:
* create/delete partitions
* resize partitions
* backup partition or hard disk
* copy partition or hard disk

We can describe the product as Partition Manager + basic backup/restore features + boot manager + tool to adjust OS to virtual machine or new hardware.

It cannot migrate installed programs from one OS to another one.

Operating system can be installed to logical drive, it doesn't have to be primary partition. You can create 3 primary partitions, and one extended partition, and within extended partition have as many logical drives as you want. This allows to have more than 4 partitions.

Operating systems can be on different hard disks, but disks must be internal ones, not connected via USB.

Linux is supported too.

If you already have boot manager installed, and activate our boot manager, most likely it will overwrite previous one. However you don't have to use our boot manager, you can use other features of SUU instead. Our boot manager is not activated automatically when installing SUU. You need to activate it manually if you need it.

Paragon Boot Manager is installed in MBR. It doesn't affect partition boot sector in any way.

Doug Atkinson Am I correct in understanding that this offering includes a Windows PE based recovery disk?

Also, are there any plans to add support for Sun's VirtualBox as an additional platform for Virtual System support?

Thanks!

Paragon Software Hello Doug,
yes, WinPE based Recovery CD is included.
VirtualBox format is not supported in this product. VirtualBox support is available in another Paragon product - Virtualization Manager - a tool designed especially for migrating real OS to virtual machine
