For quite a while, Adobe PDF documents were a lot like goldfish - nice to look at, but you couldn't really do anything with them. For instance, if you wanted to make a comment or correction, you either had to email your suggestions outside of the document, or, worse yet, if you needed to sign a document in PDF form, you'd have to print it out, slap your John Hancock on it, then rescan the whole thing back into PDF.

PDF Annotator brings a whole new level of utility to PDF documents, by allowing you to add your own comments, corrections, signatures, highlighting, even designs and drawings to PDF files! Your annotations are saved as part of the original PDF file, so you can email documents back and forth with coworkers and everyone will instantly see your notes when they open the PDF, without the need for any additional software.

With PDF Annotator, you'll have access to a handy page manager that allows you to work with your documents as thumbnail images that you can rotate, reorder, and clone. A toolbox function means that access to highlighters, colored text, underlines, and push-pins are just a click away. You can even use a tablet or your mouse to draw lines in freehand in the document, and PDF Annotator will automatically smooth those lines into crisp and clean horizontal and 90 degree vertical lines. And, of course, you can manage bookmarks and perform text searches! Need to browse, filter, or print annotations? You’re in luck! PDF Annotator comes with a powerful Annotation Manager in the sidebar.

The latest, greatest version of PDF Annotator has been updated with a modern look and comes with a bevy of new features that include stamp symbols, quick tool switching functionality, a new menu to take action on selected text, and the amazing ability to instantly convert search hits into annotations. Just imagine adding highlighting, underlines, and strike-through to all instances of a word, just like that! You can even copy and paste entire pages between documents with ease.

The current version also allows markups to be grouped or locked, preventing unintended edits or moves. Start new documents with stationary-like backgrounds, or temporarily display auxiliary lines for your drawings and handwriting. And now you can edit existing comment styles and colors at any time. PDF Annotator is better than ever before!

But best of all, PDF Annotator now gives you the option to create PDFs from any application's print menu or context menu. That's right folks, PDF Annotator isn't just a helper-utility anymore. It's a full-featured PDF creation and annotation powerhouse!

Check out the PDF Annotator site for a complete overview of what's new in v6!

Oliver Grahl @Ely: Any Tablet PC or external graphics tablet that works with Windows, will work with PDF Annotator. It's always hard to give recommendations in such a huge markets. For external tablets, the Wacom Bamboo (the large one) is pretty good. But nothing beats inking on a real Tablet PC.

Cary Adams Be aware that Version 5 beta is about to release, so you may want to wait, or be sure that the upgrade is included in this purchase. That is not mentioned in "The Fine Print".

DrTeeth I'm waiting until v5 is available as a student licence. The upgrade price is just too rich for me and is much more expensive than the student licence was.

Oliver Grahl Live and let live, guys! We only issue major upgrades every second year, other software does that twice a year! And we keep the software moving! If you like the new features (http://www.pdfannotator.com/en/whatsnew), upgrade. If the old version is still good for you, it's fine! :-)

Oliver Grahl @VLM: regarding your questions:
(1) no ribbons
(2) Annotations created in PDF Annotator can be viewed in any PDF viewer, but only edited in PDF Annotator.
(3) You can set any zoom level by typing in a % value.
(4) no, out of scope for a markup centric application
(5) sure
(6) no idea, eight I think? Just try it, the trial download is on our website - we also offer a 60 day money back guarantee.

John H I tried purchased this back around 2009 for taking notes in class on my Thinkpad tablet using a Pentium processor. The program bogged down after filling several blank pages up with handwriting. I will give this a try on my new (used eBay) Thinkpad Tablet with an i5 processor. :-)

Could you comment on the performance of filling a hundred blank pages with handwriting.

What would it take to upgrade from such an old version?

Back then I did find it to be a very very nice program to use but had to switch to Windows proprietary Journal program. One Note was way too complicated to substitute for a simple notebook.

Thanks

Oliver Grahl John, performance is a very hardware dependent thing. On our website, you'll find a download to our trial, which is not feature limited. I'd suggest to try PDF Annotator on your hardware using the trial. Regarding upgrades from existing licenses, our upgrade pricing applies, see http://www.PDFAnnotator.com/en/upgrade

Stew Cam I am a registered user of version 4, which I find useful. Upgrade price is excessive - 50% discount would be more realistic.

Oliver Grahl @Joe: Our license agreement allows installation of a single license on up to two computers - as long as only one of both installations will be used at a time. Concurrent use, or use by different users, would require additional licenses. When you own more than two computers, and it's always only you using those, that'll be okay for us as well.

Joe M This is a good program. I bought it here the last time it was offered. It says it is for version 5. A few weeks ago I got a message offering a newer version 6. I had to pay pay for the upgrade. If people buy this software when it is available, can they upgrade to the newer version for free?

John H I have started using this again after several years absence. This is a great program especially on my newer computers. It works great with my Huion 33cm graphics pad on my desktop. I am currently using the trial program.

My 2 tablets are Lenovo X220 off lease from eBay.

Any chance of a discount for upgrading my old version?

I have 3 computers I would like to install this on. I am the only user. The license is for 2 ..... ????

Will these work on Linux Under Wine or Crossover? I do not see Windows anymore as a legitimate platform for doing secure proprietary design work. My 3rd computer is an X220 with Linux Mint and Crossover. Everything else works except My CAD program. But I have until Win 7 expires to fix that.

Doug User Hi. I've been waiting for a while for the %50 discount (to $34.95) I received notice of via email today. But when I click the link (within 24 hours) I see $55.95, why is that? (I received the email @ 4:55a EST (I think) and tried the link @ 3:45a EST.
Thx

Benjamin User @Doug User I believe the vendor modified the discount from 50% to 20%. It happens near the end of the offer, that is a marketing scheme that push you to buy it as soon as possible.

FYI, when you try a software like winzip and uninstall it, you're prompted to a website saying they are sad to see you leaving and they offer you a very nice discount! It also works on some incentives marketing schemes on online marketplaces such as ClickBank where when you try to leave the page, there is a pop-up offering a better discount or worst, when you buy the product, they try to offer you additional product for a limited time in order to push you to buy their others products...

Tom Jones Can you please clarify which version is on offer (23 May 2020). The deal says "New Version 7" but the current version on the Grahl site is version 8.

Also, does the license allow installation on 2 PCs (desktop and tablet) for the same user?

Regarding this part you wrote:

I just contacted the vendor as he will know more about this.

However we are always promoting discounted products under the same license policy conditions the vendor is using to promote the product on the product website.

David F Can you edit a PDF and have it look the same as the original? For instance, sometimes I have spelling mistakes, can I go in there and edit the word, and then the document slides the paragraph over.

So, basically, is this a competitor to Adobe Acrobat? I like Acrobat but it has gotten too expensive, and I only use it once in a while.

Okay, hopefully, you'll answer my question. Thank you, DavidF

Joe M Why is this offer for version 8 when on your website you have a new version 9 for sale? If version 8 is purchased today will one get a free upgrade to the new version 9?
Feb 25 at 7:28am Copy Link
0
Bill Sech If I buy version 8 at Bits its 55 bucks. Version 9 has been out 2 months shy of 2 years now. (See the date on "Bertie's" post some 5 posts up) If I upgrade that would be 60 bucks so the whole thing might cost me 115 dollars to be up to date. On the website you can buy version 9 for app. 80 bucks. So whats the deal? A really old version for a pricey price? Hard sell. It is a good program to have and use if you work or play with pdf files.
