Earth Day is rapidly approaching, so what’s our environmental scorecard looking like? Here’s a hint: it’s not good! Take, for example, our paper usage. Despite taking measures to use duplex printing, or minimizing the number of pages in our documents, it seems that paper conservation is something beyond what our human brains can handle. That’s why we need today’s discount software promotion, PrintEco!

PrintEco reduces your printing costs by 24% by optimizing the content that you’re printing to fit onto fewer pages. With PrintEco, you don’t have to take the time and effort to reformat your print jobs, because PrintEco does it better, faster, and automatically! The software is customized to work out of the box with Microsoft Office applications like Word & Excel as well as popular browsers, using an algorithm that detects and takes advantage of whitespace in your printed documents.

With PrintEco, every day can be Earth Day in your home or office! Best of all, PrintEco comes with an analytics dashboard that tracks the amount of time and money you’re saving in Microsoft Office and the browser, and even shows you what your new and improved carbon footprint looks like!

William Sounds pretty good. I could have used a demo that showed the product at work instead of those animations. How about a screenshot that showed somebody's screen? Perhaps an actual comparison with and without PrintEco? Cartoons don't convince me that the product will do what I expect.

Is there a print preview? I'd hate to waste paper finding out that the PrintEco output didn't look right and have to print again.

The screenshot says this is web based - is it just the graphs and charts or the product itself? Do I have to have a connection with PrintEco when I print? If true, do you have or will you have a stand-alone version?

Thanks. Good luck with the promotion.

Arpan Shah Hi William,

All great questions.

1) Here is a demo video that goes over the actual screenshots: http://www.youtube.com/wa...b8rQWuEeVw

2) PrintEco Office is a desktop-based plugin application & PrintEco Analytics is web-based.

3) PrintEco does provide a preview of the optimization before you print.

4) You can use PrintEco Office stand-alone...no need to connect to the server or anything like that.

Hope this helps!

Mario Balzic I like the idea of this software and I could really use it while I am traveling, but I've got a problem with what I am reading here. It appears I must have the internet available to USE it. Is this a fact?

What do I do if I have a standalone laptop without the internet? For me, this program is totally useless if I must have the internet available...

I simply do NOT want to have yet another user ID and password to remember in addition to not being able to use it standalone...

Arpan Shah @Mario There is no need to have the Internet to use the application. For instance, PrintEco Office is plug-in for Office applications and browsers. So in Word you don't have to be connected to the Internet to use the add-in.

Mario Balzic @Arpan: OK, just to clarify things... if I can use the plug in without an account, why does it say above the following:

quote
Please note folks:
- If you do not have a Personal account already created with PrintEco, then you must use the SAME email address used to purchase PrintEco during this BitsDuJour promotion. The instructions on how to create the account are present in the receipt email.

- If you already have a Personal account with PrintEco, then when purchasing during this BitsDuJour promotion you must use the SAME email address used when you first created the Personal account.
/quote

And in the email I received, it says this:

quote
*Instructions*
*When you create the account you must use the same email address which you used
to purchase during this BitsDuJour promotion.*
To access PrintEco Analytics, you can use this URL
http://www.printecosoftwa.../analytics to create your account and access
your data.
To create the account click Signup and then create your analytics username and
password and enter the license key you received.
/quote

NOWHERE does it say that this is optional. From the wording it appears to be required. Which is why I asked about internet connectivity. Are you saying that I can download the program via the download link in the email, and then USE it as intended without having to create this account referred to in the above quoted text? If so, then I am all for it and will take advantage of this offer. Otherwise, if I cannot use it as described without an account, then again, it is useless for me. 99% of the time, my laptop is not anywhere near a network connection and THAT is where I do my printing from, with a portable printer. I am all for economizing on what I print when I travel, hence my interest in this program.

Anyway, thank you for this offer...

Arpan Shah @Mario So in all of the applications where our add-in resides (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.) you will be prompted with a pop-up to enter name and email (same as your account). This will happen the 1st time only. After that, you can use the add-in locally (no internet required).

Alternatively, if you don't have internet connection, the pop-up will continue to come up each time you open the respective application i.e. Word, until you fill it out. Obviously, you can hit cancel but then PrintEco will not appear.

I hope this helps! And again, thanks for your interest in our product!

Carl Dolc Hola:

nylg I'm not sure what is being offered here.

On the PrintEco website - a single user - for personal home use - is free.

So what are we being offered? Is it the 2 to 50 user account at $20 per user per year. I assume this would be you buy a two user account and pay $40 per year. Then you renew this subscription each subsequent year.

Which then begs the next question with regards to this free offer. What happens at the end of one year?

I guess the way the licensing works is the reason why you have to sign up and have an account. After one year the software maybe ceases to work until you renew your subscription/licence.

We need to know what the offer actually is.

If it is for a single subscription then it is free anyway.

What happens after one year?

Arpan Shah @nylg What is being offered is free PrintEco Analytics. We are planning on charging $10/yr for that service. You are correct that PrintEco Office is currently free for personal use. By the way, when you install the product, PrintEco Office & Analytics will be free for as long as you use it. No need to renew. Thanks.

HJ B I used this product to reformat a four page Word document. It reduced the document to 3 pages.

The trouble is that it did so by reducing 12 point text to 9.5 point text. You do not need a special application to do that. In any event, 9.5 point text is not comfortable reading for most people.

The product is not helpful if it re-formats in a way that discourages people from reading your document.

I will uninstall.

Arpan Shah @HJ B Sorry to hear that you didn't find much value. One thing that we have built in is an easy way to unoptimize the document in the PrintEco preview screen. Many of our active users find value in printing optimized Word documents for drafts. Lastly, while you can obviously manually optimize documents, that takes time. We do that for you instantly. Thanks for giving it a shot.

nylg Right let's get some things clear.

I have installed this software and no wonder it is free. It is what is known as an Add In tool. That is it adds buttons into the ribbon of Word etc. I have no problem with that and do use COM add ins in Outlook and Word. A COM add in is a programming device that developers can use to link into Microsoft Office products. As I say, I have no problem with that.

What do you find when you launch Word? You get two new buttons on the Ribbon in Word 2007. One is for PrintEco and the other one grouped right with it that says "Sponsor Coming Soon".

My guess is that it is no wonder this edition is free and it is the same Home use free edition as you can get off the PrintEco website. The reason being is that very likely we will be fed advertisements (nags) from the sponsor - whoever that happens to be at any given time. Sponsors might change from time to time.

If it is free then why do I get a button going on about a sponsor?

I guess we should have known that nothing in life is ever truly free.

I avoid, or am careful when installing any software that is sponsored i.e. which will add something that will push stuff at me that I don't want. A lot of software tries to do this if it is free, but nowadays in the install dialogue box - if you watch carefully - then you can opt out.

With PrintEco then no opt out was offered during the install.

Forgive me if I have misunderstood what the 'sponsor button' means.

Additionally, it does not work in Word 2007 and instead clicking on the PrintEco button takes you to the normal print dialogue box. I have checked that this particular COM Add in is configured to work where you manage COM Add ins in Microsoft Office.

To be fair, it does work to some extent in FireFox. In some cases, it is actually very good.

I am going to remove this software from my machine and I hope it will be easy to un-install.

Please can you be a bit more transparent about what you are offering? That comment goes both to the owner of the BitsDuJour website and the developer promoting their software on the website herewith.

Please convince me that I should keep this - but I can tell you now, I will not keep anything that is sponsored. No wonder you want people's email address etc. Yes I can maybe choose whether or not I click on the 'sponsor button' but that is not the point I am making here. My main point is one of making an offer that is totally transparent in the way in which it is explained what one will get.

Peter Carver I totally agree with correctly disclosing the options right from the start. ( See nylg 's and other comments)
In my case if it had said "Doesn't work with Word 2003...etc" I would not have been interested. This was to to be used in an older laptop.
Certainly NO signup and no annoyance to find out that I will probably now get spam emails from so-called sponsors.
1.So how do I stop them?
2.So how do I now uninstall the things?

BitsDuJour you have a Frustrated user!

Frank Stephens A print economizer that only works with certain applications and that sends anything to the web makes absolutely no sense. This reminds me of your typical free Android app, almost all of which qualify as malware by sending who-knows-what data from your device to who-knows-where.

Alan Stevenson This could be useful for me when printing from Firefox (I don't use MS Office so don't have the problems mentioned above) but why is it that every single time I start Firefox a page comes up automatically telling me I have to register again?
