Please note folks: the following features have been added to the application:
  • 1) It is now possible to tag files and folders directly from within Windows File Explorer
  • 2) Dark mode support added

Imagine being able to snap your fingers and instantly invoke any file, folder, program, website or even a clipboard item on your computer system! No more navigating through level after level of hierarchical folders, no more hunting for an executable file stashed in some illogically-named directory. Get whatever you want, whenever you want it. Is this some sort of mystical utopian operating system? No, it's yours, with a little help from RecentX!

RecentX can quickly find any file, folder, program, website, clipboard item on your computer, and its intelligent system of giving priority to recently accessed items makes it the fastest file search and retrieval system ever!

You don't even need to configure RecentX -- there's no need to feed it your "favorite" files and folders, just install the app and go about your business. RecentX automatically tracks and lists items which are frequently accessed, created, and modified, enabling it to learn which items are most important to you, and hiding everything else. Need to find something? Just start typing and RecentX will present you with matching items AS YOU TYPE, and will quietly hide itself when you open your selected file, folder, or application! Plus, RecentX can also index files & folders residing inside a folder on your LAN.

RecentX also integrates with Windows file open/save window. Browsing through this window and selecting any file is extremely cumbersome. RecentX makes this very easy. When the file open/save window appears, just go to RecentX window and select the required file/folder. The file open/save window will pick it up automatically.

RecentX remembers everything that you copy to clipboard. It is called the Clipboard History. Now, this is too useful.Just pick the text/image that you had copied an hour back and paste it again anywhere. You can also save frequently used text snippets (like standard email replies) inside the clipboard history itself.

With RecentX, you can even use tags to group multiple items from different folders together! Tags are the quickest way to get to any file, folder, clipetc on your hard drive. However deep it is. However old it is.

So, say goodbye to Favorites lists in your internet browsers. Bid adieu to fumbling through the Windows Start menu. Shout hasta la vista to having to use My Recent Documents. Today, there's a better way, and that better way is RecentX!

These short video tutorials will give you more clarity on how RecentX works.

Mitchell User Simply outstanding. Mandatory. Cost-benefit=grand larceny committed by license purchaser.

Jorge Watanabe It's a great app, but unfortunately it is not working for me since I upgraded to Win10. It simply closes without warning or message

Rob I trialled this and set the Windows password I use. RecentX will not accept the password and locks me out. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still it locks me out.
What ini or registry key do I delete to get it to work?

Don't take the text above as condemnation of RecentX I do like it and maybe I entered the password incorrectly but if I get RX working again I won't be using the password feature.

Thanks everyone for your appreciation.

@Jorge I will email you with instructions. Shouldn't be anything to with Windows 10.

@Rob, Have sent you email with instructions. we will be removing the "Lock" feature in the next update as it is causing confusion. Also it is hardly used.
Kelly Hamblin This was a reminder for me to update to the latest version. I highly recommend this little gem. Been using it for years. If I had a wish, I'd ask that there be a way to turn off clipboard monitoring altogether.

BTW, Notezilla is another of their lovely applications. Maybe it will show up here soon.

Thanks @Kelly. It is possible to disable Clipboard monitoring. Go to Clipboard tab, select Options button and choose 'Stop monitoring clipboard'. Notezilla was here couple of weeks back.
Rob @Gautam Jain - Thanks, using what you sent me in the email I was able to reinstall RecentX.

It's useful but has one major flaw for me - (unless it's something you can point out I'm doing wrong) - it will remember the size of the window it opens up but it will not remember the columns I ask it to display nor will it remember the width of colums.

If I ask it to display the tags column and adjust the width of the columns displayed if I then close down RecentX and reopen it the additional columns and their widths default to the initial setup view. The only thing that is remembered is the main displayed window size.

If this is something I've missed please point it out.

P.S. Just carried out more testing and it will remember the tags column if TAGS has an entry. So if you assign one folder say a tag of 'family' it will then display the tags column. It still will not remember the column widths though.

Mitchell User I am so happy with RecentX, I purchased a license for Notezilla as an act of appreciation. I am certain already that I will put that program to good use as well.

Sep 2 at 1:42am Copy Link
Gautam Jain -
It is possible to change the data folder.
1. Exit RecentX
2. Run regedit.exe
3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Conceptworld\RecentX\Settings
4. Change the value of DataFolder to point to the new folder
5. Run RecentX
PeterLi Thank you Gautam Jain
Perhaps a future version can do this using the RecentX interface

RS Do you have any idea when the next major version will be released? Absent any reference to it, I assume that it will be a paid upgrade for those who purchase the current version here? If so, will there be a discount offered?
Sep 2 at 8:05am Copy Link
Gautam Jain -
@RS Major version not yet planned. If we release a new version in next 6 months, we will give the new version for free. And after that it will be available at a discounted price.
Mary Wilson I went to your website to see which version this sale is for and could not figure it out. I currtently own version 5.
