What are people saying about RoboForm2Go v7

Bob S Can the RoboForm2Go USB version be installed on a PC and run like the regular RoboForm version?

I don't really have a need for the USB functionality, but this seems like a good price for the "regular" Roboform.

Thank you.

Bob S.

New Kreation Bob S,
After visiting the RoboForm's website and downloading the free RoboForm2Go download, I noticed one of the options is to "Select removable drive to install RoboForm2Go to". There is a check box that allows you to "Show All Drives". The local drive(s) will then show up in the list of drives to install to. I would recommend downloading the trial version.

Siber Systems Bob+New Kreations,

Sorry, the RoboForm2Go license does NOT work for the desktop version or vice versa.

Daniel H 2Simon: Will there be some concurrent offer for "non-USB" Roboform? Like add 7 bucks and you get both USB and non-USB Roboform? I know that there was Roboform offer previuosly. I must always (unfortunetely) keep in mind that as a EU customer I must add 19 percent VAT to your price. Will there be any combo offer? Actually you want to boost yout sells and get our money :)

Siber Systems Daniel: The cart we are using on this promo does not charge VAT so you needn't worry :-)

You can also add RoboForm desktop version for $9.95. So RoboForm + RoboForm2Go for $29.90. Normally these two products together are $49.90. I will post this link in the comments once the offer goes live.

Todd F Simon, when I go to the link it shows RoboForm2Go for $39.95 instead of $29.95. I've been on the fence about buying but this will definitely make me take the plunge. Also taking a look at GoodSync as well. Right now I use Cobian for my backup program and while I have no complaints I would like something that does real time backup/sync. Does GoodSync do this? For example when I download new songs from iTunes would it automatically back those up as soon as they're downloaded? Thanks!

Steve M. Simon:

I don't think Bob S. was asking if the RoboForm2Go license key would work with RoboForm; he was asking if you could install RoboForm2Go on your PC LIKE RoboForm and have it provide most/all of the same functions as RoboForm.

I think New Kreation was saying that it could if you select "Show All Drives". After all, if you can use the USB version to work on any PC from a USB key, working on ONE PC from the hard drive should be OK, right?

Nick Kobe Hi!

When installing the software on a USB drive (including external drive) can you use the drive as a storage device or does the drive have to be "dedicated"?

Thanks!

Adrian Williams Hello Todd,
I've bought roboform and goodsync and they work beautifully together. You can also sync folders like your itunes based on a schedule(minutes, hours). In this way, you'll have two folders sync'd. Watch the propogation setting though - if set incorrectly, you can lose files and its default setting is probably what you don't want.

The only niggle I have is i've 10 sync tasks set in goodsync, one being every 15 minutes when I run the program (minimsed to taskbar). I simply want to copy files from a networked PC onto my main PC. If i dont need the program I shut it down completely. Unfortunately, robofrom starts goodsync and syncs its own data offline as soon as I'm surfing the web (and using roboform of course). Once sync'd goodsync remains running and begins to regularly sync the other folders that have the timed sync, somthing i don't necessarily want to do.
I would much prefer to have roboform have its own offline syncing routine rather than have to utilise its sister program goodsync. I'd recommend an alternative to having to buy goodsync is to use the free offline system dropbox. Set roboform to save data in the private dropbox folder and you've got secure offline backup without having to buy goodsync. Why not try that option todd, before you commit.
My advice if you want real time backup is ajc backup - it works faultlessly and will back up files/folders as soon as they change. It also backs up the changed or new files only. Give it a try before Friday, you'll definitely buy it.
AJC backup, backing up into dropbox is the way to go !
Roboform is definitely the way forward when it comes to passwords on the web. the safenotes option is also good for keeping your software registrations or any other info you want secure. My only gripe, is each entry has its own container file and is named with its title, like lloyds tsb for the log on details to your bank for example. Since its encrypted, it's secure though.
I used to use secure safe pro (in fact i still do for older data because of the weakness with data export and import between roboform and securesafepro.) I've loads of old secure data that I need to get from ssp to roboform but don't have the time to do it.
Apologies for the lengthy post but I hope this helps you decide what's best for you.

Tim Rogers I see the same as Todd F. RoboForm To Go 39.95 + 9.95 for RoboForm license. I can't uncheck the RoboForm To Go option and only buy the RoboForm add-on license.

Siber Systems Todd: GoodSync does not do 'real-time' sync like you suggest yet. We're developing a version that does. However, you can sync at very frequent intervals or contingent on actions such as windows login, usb-key insertion, or even schedule for a given time of day.

Steve M: RoboForm and RoboForm2Go have more or less identical functionality. One is simply made to run off a removable drive and the other off a hard drive. I can assure you when you try to activate RoboForm2Go and it is on your hard drive you will run into issues:-)

Nick Kobe: Great question! It does *not* have to be dedicated. RoboForm2Go footprint is extremely small so you can use on your regular USB drive along with everything else.

Adrian Williams: Thanks for the info. I believe there is a remedy for the issue you mention, I will ask my tech team and get back to you. Re: Dropbox, the only thing to be careful of is that their software does not have an 'exclude filter' and will sync RoboForm .rfo files which can lead to problems. Presumably you are working around this with AJC (can also be done with GoodSync), but just wanted people to know. GoodSync can sync your data to FTP/SFTP, Amazon S3, and WebDav...Ideally Dropbox would allow WebDav access and then GoodSync could sync directly to it.
Siber Systems Inc. - Aug 17 2009 at 2:19am Copy Link

Adrian Williams Thanks Simon for the info. Since I've bought Goodsync I'm using it to sync roboform rather than use dropbox. You mentioned the potential problem so i've tried it and you're right. Roboform and dropbox together can give problems. AJC as the intermediary avoids that by zipping all the files up and not providing a true sync, in fact it's doing a backup.
I'd appreciate the feedback on the issue of autostarting. I'm no programmer but looking along the lines of ..if goodsync is already running, keep it running after syncing roboform else close the program.
There's no shortage of upgrades with goodsync, I've just downloaded another today !

Tim Riley Not to derail the discussion, but since this is a site for bargain hunters, I'd have to recommend saving the $20 and using Lastpass instead. More advanced features, better security, native syncing, online access, and much more.

Roboform is a fine product, but well past its prime, and not the best solution for those of us who access the web from multiple machines or mobile devices. Check out your options before investing in RF licenses.

Siber Systems Tim, how do you define "better security"? Is there a third party standing behind this claim or simply your own personal opinion? With RoboForm2Go, *all* operations of the software are on the USB key without any interaction with a third party server, most would say this is quite secure.

Furthermore, does the USB version of their program work with IE? No-according to their site it only works with Portable Firefox. Ours works with regular IE, regular FF, and portable FF.

Are the mobile versions you specify not part of their *paid* premium offering? On the other hand RoboForm is free for Blackberry, Palm, and Windows Mobile

RoboForm also offers free password syncing to all of our users via RoboForm Online.

In addition, we have many things in the pipeline (native Mac version, native Chrome version, etc) which perhaps you are not aware of.

Please respect the discussion and present the facts in an accurate way.

Feel free to email me at s2davis (at) roboform [dot] com with any questions.

Tim Riley Uh, Simon, I did respect the discussion. I pointed out an alternative that, in my opinion--which I do believe is still allowed here--is both better and cheaper. I even intentionally chose not to post a link so as not to be accused of spamming... unlike your reps so frequently do (Exhibit A: just google "Omarra Byrd".)

You are also misrepresenting facts in your response to me to paint Roboform in a more favorable light. While I prefer not to engage you in this, I can certainly understand your argumentative tone--your goal is to maximize your revenue. I trust that those reading can make up their own mind, and if they want to check out their options, the facts are freely available and easily accessible to those that want information beyond your hype and half-truths.

For anyone considering a password manager, here's a great AP article that ran in last week's Chicago Tribune. They specifically compare RF and Lastpass (and are very favorable towards both.) Make up your own mind:

Siber Systems Tim, I understand where you are coming from, however you are the one who has made an claim that another product is "more secure" without backing it up. In addition, you mention "half-truths" by our company without citing any examples. This may not be spamming but could possibly be perceived as "flaming".

Omarra Byrd was never our employee or representative as you claim. He was an affiliate -among thousands- that we have severed ties with due to the behavior you point out.

Tim Riley I wasn't going to engage, but this one alternately makes me laugh or just plain irks me. Simon, you may have the loosest definition of "free" I've every seen:

"Are the read moremobile versions you specify not part of their *paid* premium offering? On the other hand RoboForm is free for Blackberry, Palm, and Windows Mobile "

I'm going to go out on a limb here and make the assumption that if somebody installs a mobile version on another platform, it's because they want access to their data. I mean, having Roboform on a Palm or Blackberry with no access to your passwords and no way to sync them doesn't make much sense now, does it? Just to get started with Roboform/Goodsync soaks the user for $49.90, according to your combined purchase discount according to your site... and that still only allows you to use Roboform on one PC, with more licenses to buy for each additional instance. Get into multiple desktops, home, work, netbooks... the cost for Roboform can easily get over $100, with no limit in sight (I know, I have several Roboform licenses... a substantial expense.) The cost to use Lastpass on an infinite number of computers, unlimited data, with native syncing that requires no addiitonal software? $0.00. Want to add mobile devices? $12.00. Less than one quarter the expense to buy a single license of Roboform and Goodsync (the features of which should be built-in to RF as they are with Lastpass, but why bother when you can get your users to pay another $20 or $30 premium for the privilege, right?)

Offering the mobile version for "free" is really very smart on Roboform's part, it's a super way to get an extra $29.95 from your users just to get the sync feature. Especially when Goodsync is less powerful and has a much smaller feature set than most of the freeware syncing programs out there... but I'll save you the embarrassment of opening that can of worms, OK?

Like I said in my first post, addressed to the readers here... if you're considering spending money on this product, educate yourselves on the alternatives. And make sure you think about how you plan to use the product... with RF, your expenses mount as you expand your usage.

------------------------------
"you are the one who has made an claim that another product is "more secure" without backing it up."

I find it more secure in how it handles my data. I'm an accountant, not a software tech guru. Which is why I've clearly stated many times now... users can read up on both and decide for themselves.

"In addition, you mention "half-truths" by our company without citing any examples. This may not be spamming but could possibly be perceived as "flaming"."

Wow, I specifically state that I'm avoiding confrontation and that gets labeled as flaming. Well, I've now provided an example above. And, once again, anyone who is interested can check out both products and see for themselves how a portable version works or what the true cost of a product is.

Now that I've been drawn in and contributed to taking this somewhat off-topic, I'll apologize and excuse myself. If some of the information here gets people to look at some alternatives and save some money, great.

Siber Systems Tim, did you make the multiple RoboForm purchases under this name or a different one? I'm unable to find multiple RoboForm purchases for the same "Tim Riley" or "Timothy Riley". Perhaps the firm you work with? I am asking so I can look you up and make sure our support staff has given you the correct info about our products-that is all. Feel free to clarify offline at my email above.

The discussion of usage scenarios is probably too general as obviously everyone's needs/platforms differ. In addition, the subject here is RoboForm2Go USB version. But I would like to clarify that our pricing is lifetime per machine and includes unlimited live phone support on weekdays and 24/7 email support (unlimited 24/7 email support for free users as well). So for a couple sharing a home computer, it would still be one desktop license with us. The $12 you mention for Lastpass is an annual fee per user account to my knowledge. So pricing comparison is not exactly apples to apples, but perhaps apples to pears (if not oranges):-)

The mobile versions of RoboForm are free if you have the free version of RoboForm (which over half of our active users do). You do not need a Pro license to use them.

Syncing to the cloud with RoboForm Online is also free. We understand that more and more users want syncing to multiple devices and plan to exapnd this platform to address this while keeping it free.

Regarding synchronization, yes, we do also develop GoodSync. However, in no way is it a requirement for syncing RoboForm data. Sure, we recommend it (as do most software vendors with their own products), but in no way do we enforce any kind of "vendor lock-in" between RoboForm and GoodSync. We have plenty of users who sync their RoboForm Data either to our server or to their own storage with other synchronization software (see comments above). I won't go on about GoodSync, users can check out the website and see for themselves how good the value of that product offering is.

Anyhow, this is probably too much information for the forum of a one-day sale that we (both Siber Systems and Bits Du Jour, though of course I speak only for Siber) put a lot of work into and decide to promote/plug a competitive product. Fact of the matter is Siber is a small company and everyone works hard and stands by the products-I can assure you we are not seeking this type of confrontation. I hope this discussion does not detract from the great offer we have put together today for bits Du Jour :-)

Jonathan Keener Mitch B:
I'm sure Simon will come back with an official answer, but as an existing RoboForm/RoboForm2Go/GoodSync user for the past couple of years I've had no problem reactivating the software when reinstalling. The software does require activation and I have had to send an email because I exceeded my allowable activation count, and Siber's Support very quickly reset my count so I could reinstall. Over the past couple of years (especially recently running Windows 7 Beta and RC), I've had a number of reinstalls, and this hasn't been any big issue, just a quick email to support and they got me going each time in under 24 hrs. A deactivate feature would be nice, but since emailing hasn't been a problem I've been happy with it. I anticipate having to email again soon with the final release of Windows 7 and don't foresee a problem.

Overall I've been a very happy customer over the years and highly recommend their tool. I run it on 3 machines and one USB key, syncing with their online service and it has worked flawlessly! And more importantly, my wife actually uses it and loves it!

Siber Systems Mitch B: Jon is correct. We charge by the machine so if you have to format frequently just give support a heads up and we can accommodate no problem, you only pay for what you use:-)

Our next version will have a more formal process like you suggest however we have plenty of users doing the same thing as you.

Stefan Hauber Does this support sites too, where the data having to be entered instead being on a single web-page, are distributed?

For example having a free email-address at hushmail.com, on the first webpage you have to enter the email-address, on the second you have to push a button (saying to keep using this free-mail address mode) and on the third you have to enter your password.

Would be great if this all can be done with one menu-entry click instead...

software guy This is very useful software. Having the convenience on a thumb drive will make the software even more convenient. Several questions - is the software tied to a specific machine, or will it run on any machine we plug it into?
What are the terms of the EULA? Can we install on one or two USB drives? How do we backup or replace if/when we lose the USB drive? Thanks!
Feb 12 2010 at 3:50am Copy Link

Siber Systems software guy: The software is installed entirely on the USB drive and will run on any machine you insert it.

Our EULA can be found here: http://www.roboform.com/license-en.txt

The license is a lifetime license and includes updates/support. Each license is for a single USB drive. We also have an optional free backup service for your files called RoboForm Online

Ken Jones My passcards, identities, and safenotes have descriptive titles to help me work with them. Roboform uses those titles as the plain English file names. If a bad guy reads my flash drive, he won't be able to access the file contents but he'll have a really good picture of where I do my business. I could name the files 1, 2, 3, etc. but that would require a separate list for correlation.
I want to make the bad guy's job harder. It would be great if you could assign random names to the files while showing plain names from within the program. Could that be accomplished from within the program using a lookup table as one might do in a database?

_*_ Bought RoboForm last time it was here.  It simply decided to not display the toolbar for some reason and I had to use the little icon at the bottom of the screen to continue using the program.

I uninstalled and when you do that it gives an opportunity to mention why.  I made this known and never heard back from the vendor.  I have since gone back to using the FireFox password minder.

I liked it when it worked, but for me it was not worth the money since I no longer have it installed.  I figure if it happened once it will likely happen again and it is simpler to avoid it altogether.

We would be happy to work with you to ensure that the toolbar shows up in your browser.

Van Swofford Reading the licensing policy, it's licensed to a single computer, and activation is required.  How is it possible to then use it on another computer with the USB drive?  I'm guessing this policy is intended for the Pro version rather than the USB version, but wanted to check.

Also, can the USB version be installed on a computer, rather than a USB drive?  If so I would intend to buy one copy to install on a laptop for my wife, and another to install on a USB drive for me, since I travel and use several different computers.

Thanks,
Van

(FWIW, I used RoboForm for years; the dev was tortuously slow to respond to mobility concerns. I researched comparable options; then switched to competing app, LastPass. That was many months ago; been a happy camper ever since.)

Andy Andy: Thanks for catching this in the release notes. That is incorrect about 6.9.99. We have not decided what the v7 upgrade policy will be and we have not set a release date for v7 yet, however we can say that we have millions of v6 users and our #1 priority is to do right by them.

Pedro Laurent Hello can you make clear the part where you said:

"We have not decided what the v7 upgrade policy will be and we have not set a release date for v7 yet"

So after version 6.9.99 we have to purchase another license when version 7 is release? I currently owned one license for Roboform PRO and Roboform2GO with version 7 Beta release 7.0.66, so this mean once the final version is release I won't be able to use it since there will be an upgrade policy? I was never aware there was a upgrade policy for your product? it's been almost 3 years now that I'm using Roboform....

Tazzie I think that if there are too many uninstalls to pay attention to notes included with them then the request for the reason for uninstallation should be removed ... it is unfair to leave it there and allow the user to think there might be a response, especially if they have stated specific problems or asked questions.

Based on various reasons, I decided to start using LastPass (I use Firefox), and I also have the mobile LastPass app on my phone.  I am very satisfied with it, so it is another option.

tazzie L: Our developers pay close attention to uninstalls and use this feedback in their efforts to improve the product. I am sorry but we do not have the resources to respond to every individual uninstall. We are a small company and prefer to invest in product development and support. Our commitment to communicating with our users is displayed by our 24-7 email support, live phone support, live chat, facebook, and twitter where users get a response within a very short time. Stephane M Hi Simon,

What about the question from Van Swofford regarding the license per computer for this version of RoboForm2Go?
It does not make really sense for a portable version. Is the license policy for the desktop version instead as Van thought?

Thanks in advance.

Siber Systems Stephane M: The license for RoboForm2Go is per USB drive. However if your USB drive is replaced, lost, stolen, etc. you can re-install without getting a new Pro license. What we don't allow is to use 1 RoboForm2Go license on 2 separate USB drives at the same time :-)

Tazzie I just wanted to say that there's something for everyone.  There have been times when I opted for a paid app over free ones for various reasons, and vice versa.  It all boils down to your needs, your budget, priorities, etc.

I used to use RoboForm, then got my new notebook, really got into Firefox addons and read about LastPass.  I decided it wouldn't hurt to try, and I got hooked!  Like Denis said, it's an astonishing app.  Also, there was a LastPass app for the Palm Pre, which sealed the deal for me.  No matter what one might think of the Pre itself, the WebOS is an amazing platform IMHO, and one that some developers ignored to their mistake.  I am looking forward to see what kind of WebOS tablet Palm and HP put together, and those developers who have been making apps for WebOS since the beginning will be the first to benefit.

My point is that RoboForm, like much software, is a good program.  I don't quite buy the "little company that must feed itself" line ... Siber Systems might not be a corporate behemoth, but it is far from poor.  Anyway, I would not say that I would never use it again cos it really is a good program with good support ... my needs and preferences at this point diverge.

I would encourage anyone who hasn't decided at this late hour :) to continue to try it out and I'm sure if you decide to go for it (maybe in the desktop version), there will be deals or specials  sooner or later if you don't want to pay full price.  You can't go wrong with this program, if it meets your needs and preferences.

SoftCollector Not sure why this version of Roboform is offered separately here (there was a recent sale of the Desktop version on BDJ). The only explantaion I can think of is that the creators of Roboform wanted to make sure that both versions will be sold - and why not to the same people?

I would expect that most potential customers would want to buy the USB version, so selling the other one first might be a smart buisness decision, but it also strikes me as being somewhat unfair to people who bought the Desktop version on BDJ a couple of days ago.

In my opinion Roboform2go pro is very good software. Have been using it for years, but finally I switched over to Password Depot from Acebit. They have a all in one piece of software. That was better for me instead of having a desktop version and a portable version. I think it is the best competitor in comparison with Roboform. See: http://www.password-depot.com/ But don't forget. Roboform is also very good.

Siber Systems @SoftCollector,

Definitely the ability to take RoboForm with you anywhere.

RoboForm2Go gives you the freedom and flexibility to carry all your passwords, contacts, and bookmarks, with you for use on any computer - anywhere in the world. Since RoboForm2Go runs directly from the USB drive, you can use it on any computer without leaving any personal data behind.

Dear Michelle,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

This would be interesting to know: if RoboForm2Go is used at a public computer/internet club with the hardware and software setup, characteristic of such establishment, can sensitive information be intercepted and stored for later use by the administrators? What is the starting and ending point of 'secure' in that case?

Kind Regards,

Richard Miller I currently use the desktop version... can I move my data to the 2go version or everywhere version without entering it again?

What happens if I lose the USB device but have a backup? Buy again or reinstall again?

Thanks.

Siber Systems @SoftCollector,

With RoboForm2Go your data is never stored on the host computer, it remains on the USB drive. In addition, you never type your passwords so RoboForm slightly improves your security on public computers.

That said, there are risks with public computers in general. If someone installs a "listener," "kelogger" or other software designed to capture what a person in typing into a computer, then RoboForm does not offer much additional security. In other words, using a public computer comes with risk and RoboForm decreases the general risk since you are not typing your passwords when logging into sites.

RoboForm does not do anything to increase the general risk of using public computers.

Thanks for your question.

Oct 13 2011 at 11:55am Copy Link

Siber Systems @Richard,

1) When you install RoboForm2Go it will ask you in you want to import your RoboForm data to the USB. You can also move your data from the computer to the USB at any time. You data is generally located in the following directory:
C:\Users\[Your Name]\Documents\My RoboForm Data\Default Profile

2) If you lose the USB, reinstall and activate with the original instructions you had been sent at time of purchase.

Thank you for your questions!

Nelson Therrien Unfortunately, I'm soooo busy these days that I missed the TWO deals that I wanted to have last week: RoboForm Everywhere and Desktop (in fact, I have RoboForm Everywhere and like it... this is for my wife...).

So, I know that it is sometimes so I ask the question: "Will this deal include the other "flavors" of RoboForm as well"?

This deal is only for RoboForm2Go, it does not include RF Everywhere or RF Desktop, but when you choose RF2Go you can carry RoboForm on your USB with you to whichever computer that you are using and have access to RF on multiple computers.

Nelson Therrien Yeah, I know... I used to have both Desktop and RoboForm2Go before Everywhere was released...

It's just that my wife doesn't really use USB keys... (and she's only using one computer).

We're in the process of deciding whether Destop (because she uses almost only one computer and it's a one-time fee) or Everywhere (since she's testing my old iPad 2 and it looks that only Everywhere is supported on iPad... at least, the free version of Desktop is not and it seems to ask for the Everywhere password...) That's both deals would have been good for her to test last week... it's really sad that I was too busy and missed it... :(

You only need RoboForm Everywhere because you can access your RoboForm account anywhere that you go. You can also install it on a USB, if you need to! RoboForm Everywhere is a yearly subscription because it gives you access to your RF information at anytime and anywhere. If you need help learning about putting your RF Everywhere on your USB please contact our support department at http://www.roboform.com/support.

Emil Kucera The policy says "RoboForm2Go v7 is licensed per computer, and not per user" - can you explain how does that make sense with something that you carry around on a stick and use at different machines?

Siber Systems Hi Emil,

Thank you for your question. What this means is that when you buy the RF2Go license, you can have one user profile on that license. Only one person's RoboForm information can be stored and saved on the USB device. RoboForm does not install on the computers that you plug your USB device in to, so it stays on the USB device- therefore it is one license, but it can be used on multiple computers, wherever you go!

Nelson Therrien Just to make things clear, as some of you ask about it:
IF you have a RoboForm Everywhere account, YOU DON'T NEED ANYTHING ELSE!

On your computer(s), just download RoboForm Desktop and use your Everywhere access (serial and/or login informations, I don't remember)...

For your USB key, download RoboForm2Go and then insert your RoboForm Everywhere informations!

And finally, you can also use it on your iDevices (iPhone, iPad and I suppose iPod Touch)... Maybe it's also available for Android... check for this one...

RoboForm Everywhere, well, you can use it... Everywhere!

VLM 1. Licensing clarification: Michelle writes: "What this means is that when you buy the RF2Go license, you can have one user profile on that license. Only one person's RoboForm information can be stored and saved on the USB device. " But ... I often use 2 profiles for myself. Is this prohibited by the 2Go version of the software?

2. As I recall, the fundamental functional difference between 2Go and Desktop is that Desktop can call the Windows Task Scheduler and 2Go cannot. Is this the main functional difference?

3. Just a comment on 2Go vs. Everywhere. I can see how Everywhere would appeal to many users. But speaking for myself, I would just offer that no amount of promises, no privacy policy, no sentries at the gate can ever provide true safety when one moves one's private date onto a cloud-based server (or onto anyone else's server, for that matter). So for me, the 2Go version is preferred 100-0.

That said, I've used this product for years and I really don't see how I could work without it. It's probably the only product I have, of which I would say that. The product provides not only robust password-related functionality, but another function called Safe Notes, where one can store anything, all nicely in a hierarchy of one's own creation. I use it for product keys, among other things.

I realize that some of the notes (e.g., AllMyNotes) and PIM products could be used to provide this functionality as well. But I like having all my security data in one place.

I would like to comment on the lifetime license issue, because we were directly affected by that decision. I have come to recognize that I really do rely upon good software tools and the support that a good vendor provides. And honestly, IMO it's utterly absurd to imagine that any vendor ... ANY VENDOR ... will really continue to upgrade and support a product forever in exchange for a one-time payment, regardless of the amount. It simply cannot be done.

So I take the point of view that eventually, 100% of the "lifetime licenses" I have purchased will be converted into fee-based licenses. That way, I never feel disappointed, betrayed, or any else of the kind. Instead. I feel grateful that I had a free ride for a while. And most important, I feel grateful that the vendor has come to its senses and chosen a path whereon it can thrive in the long run.

This applies to all products, not just to RoboForm in particular. It's a great product. Do I wish they'd change this or that? Sure! Who doesn't! ?? But it's a great, steady product, updated frequently, well supported always. I'm willing to pay for that, now and always.

My 2 cents!

PS: Michele, I have an inquiry similar to Peter's. What email address, please?

Nelson Therrien Reflexion:

For those of you who might hesitate because of the bad reviews, consider that: How many times have you (or have you seen or read) people asking questions or posting comments on bitsdujour and has never received an answer (or only long after the deal's end)?

Michelle (and maybe others) is constantly posting here, doing her very best to answer questions and to help with any inquiry (often personnaly, through private chat)...

Is this the attitude of a company that doesn't care about their clients? It's clear that they do their best to help us, and nothing tells me that it can change after the sell...

And yes, they could have kept their first-born commitment of offering lifetime upgrades... and simply don't upgrade because they can't afford to... Every company needs to have money entering somewhere, like VLM mentioned...

Techtoysavvy I own all 3 flavors of RoboForm licenses. I think I understand the difference between 2Go and Desktop. The first is essentially a single user based license and locked to the USB key while the Desktop license is for multiple users on the same computer.

The Everywhere license is still somewhat confusing. I get that it is an annual time based license and not a perpetual license. I work in the software industry and I am supposed to understand licensing schemes.

But just because I (me one person) can use the time based license on unlimited computers should not entitle me to use it for unlimited users.

I do use it with my wife and we share an account and passwords. This is specifically why I like Roboform. I want my wife to have access to the passwords.

However, I do not want my kids to have access to all the passwords. For example, Netflix is OK but bank pins are not for the kids.

Within the family some passwords are shared and some are still private. This can be handled with multiple profiles but I can think of a cleaner solution.

RF everywhere requires that the data be substantially the same. I suspect this is to allow mutiple users within the family but I am not sure about this aspect of the licensing. It may be that my kids should not use the software even though it is installed on all computers in the home.

If I am violating the license then please excuse me. It is out of confusion and not intent. So far I have not setup user profiles for my kids but I would like to do that. I suspected that I would need to use my desktop license for that.

J J Well said VLM, i totally agree with you. We have to stop being selfish & cheap & get realistic here, by realizing that continually upgrading & improving software obviously costs HEAPS of money & if people want Siber Systems (or any other good company) to grow, prosper & get even better than they already are, then contribute to make that happen. There's not much point in a LIFETIME lic if the company is no longer around in a couple of years time

Siber Systems Hi everyone,

Thank you for all the great questions and contributions/helping other users! To explain the lifetime agreement with V6 licenses and below I will talk about this quickly so we can clear up some confusion.

We provided free upgrades of RoboForm up until V7, when we released a whole new version of RoboForm called RoboForm 7. RoboForm 7 had significantly upgraded features and was considered a different product for us, so we did charge users to upgrade from this from V6 and below.

Before V7, we never charged for upgrades- we provided years and years of free upgrades to our users. We do provide free upgrades within a version though. For example, if you purchase V7 you are entitled to all of the upgrades within V7.

RoboForm Everywhere is our yearly subscription service. You receive free upgrades while you are subscribed and use the service.

Thanks for your comments!

Siber Systems Hi Prasad,

It seems that you have a few questions about how exactly to use RoboForm Everywhere and share information between users. We created RFE so that each user could have one license per user. If you wish to use the same RFE account between you and your wife, then that is your own personal choice and does not violate terms because you are both sharing the same account and accessing the same passwords. Most people purchase their own license because they want all of their passwords to be under their own name and not shared with anyone else.

If you have any further questions please contact our support department at http://www.roboform.com/support.

Roderick Nicolson This is a deal I'd recommend.
I've had version 6 for some years on my USB stick - never had a problem with it.
I Have loads of website passwords on mine (100s) and have no idea what they are. I use RoboForm2Go to make complicated passwords that are very unlikely to be cracked. I can do this because I don't need to remember them. I only need to know the one that opens RoboForm2Go.
I can use it anywhere, on any computer, because it loads up once the USB is plugged in. Never had a problem with that either. Possibly the most useful program I have.
I'm hoping this one will sync with the non-portable RoboForm I have on my personal computer. That way I can always be sure my passwords are up to date.
Best thing since sliced bread.
I'm certainly going to grab an updated version, at this price.

Yfor I bought a license of RF2Go Pro and one for RF Exerywhere: Did I just buy the same thing twice?
Also, it's quite confusing that the installer will warn you not to proceed with the installation on a U3 stick and refers you to a Roboform page which tells you to install it anyway because there's no more support specific to the U3 format.
Finally, if anyone's interested, RoboForm Desktop 7 is available for 9.95 on the checkout page (that's $5 less than the BDJ offer from a few weeks back).

Roderick Nicolson That's for a years subscription. It's not the same as having the full RoboForm Everywhere product. You will have to pay again, after a year's up.

As for RF2Go Pro and RF Everywhere - they are not the same.
RF Everywhere is for a desktop PC or for a laptop - it needs to be installed.
RF2Go is for a USB stick. It's portable and you can take it with you and use it from your USB stick on any PC computer.
It works great and means you never have to worry about carrying passwords or information around with you - except through RF2Go which has 5 different and powerful password encryptions to choose from. Even if you do lose your USB stick I think you can feel sure RF2Go is not going to be opened.
It can do it all. I've never had a problem with it intergrating with the maine browsers on any other computer. Though I guess it might if the browser is of a different type. You can still run it from the system tray however if that's the case. So you wouldn't be stuck.

As far as U3 support, please read more information here, http://www.roboform.com/platforms/usb/u3. U3 support has been discontinued.

Also, please everyone note that RF Desktop is NOT $9.95, it is $29.95. When you purchased RF2GO, you are probably seeing $9.95 for Desktop because you receive your second license for only $9.95. Thanks.

Amit Hello,

I have some queries -

1) Do all your products - Roboform everywhere, roboform2go and robofrom desktop, work with all portable browsers aswell. I really make quite use of portable firefox, maxthon etc.
So will all 3 above work with portable browsers as well ?

Or if only some of them will work, then please state which.

+

2) Does the 30day RETURN policy valid for all your additional products too - that are listed in the ordering page when I click above Buy now ? - ie. desktop 7 and GoodSync2Go ?

I may just buy many if so, because I dont have time to try out all of them right now and would like to see them later, within 30 days.

3) Do any of your products work with maxthon 2 or say with maxthon1 as well - And if not atleast maxthon is the best IE shell, and I think it needs to be considered. Especially maxthon2.

Siber Systems Hi @Steven,

As discussed at length on the last thread, we do have an Export function, but it currently exports everything as Bookmarks.

What users typically use to export is our Print List function. Again, as mentioned in the previous thread, the Print List function will only export the main URL. This is because users requested this. When users printed the whole URL, all the formatting issues made the print difficult to manage and wasted a lot of paper.

I feel like I've adequately answered your question multiple times. I would appreciate it if you could contact us directly if you have any additional questions.

Thank you,

No Name Print List isn't really an export function, as exports usually take the form of something that is readily able to be imported - either into your application or another. This is especially important in the case of password applications so you can have control of your data. Is there any way to export your data to pure text format (csv, tab-separated, etc)?

No Name But the HTML export cuts off the URLs, which makes it less than useful. Is there any way to export the whole of the data for backup and such? I do the same in the application I currently use, but its not portable which was my reason for looking at this... but having my attention turned towards the export I realized this shortcoming which is a dealbreaker for me. The print isn't really an export, and the export mangles some of the data.

JW I used to use RoboForm back in the day, but had to give up on it when Chrome was released. Have you resolved the issues which prevented the program functioning properly with that browser?

Siber Systems Hi @John,

Thanks for your question. Chrome officially does not allow toolbars anymore, they are prohibited. Chrome used to allow them, but then they were banished by Google.

Now the only place where Roboform can show its toolbar is at the bottom of the browser window in Chrome and as a popup upper toolbar in Chrome. We have integrated RoboForm into Chrome the best that we can with Chrome's toolbar limitations.

To see an example of the Chrome toolbar options, please check out our video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/wa...b2UvoH0B6H

Thank you,
Michelle

Douglas Huddle Does not work great with Chrome which is just another reason I do not use Chrome.

RoboForm is very useful but it does get expensive for a family with 4 or more computers.

Siber Systems Hi @Douglas,

Thank you for your comments. We may consider a family plan license package in the future to help make RoboForm more affordable for families who all wish to have separate licenses.

Thank you,
Michelle
