"I was able to write documentation in a matter of 10 minutes or less..."

ScreenSteps Desktop Pro combines screen capture, image editing and document authoring into a single, integrated solution that is simple and fast.

ScreenSteps Pro is ideal for creating:

  • Software documentation
  • How-to and quick start guides
  • Visual process documentation

With ScreenSteps Pro you don't have to fuss with capturing images and pasting them into Microsoft Word or your HTML/Blog editor. Just capture images or import existing photos and your document is created for you. Add arrows, lines, or other annotations, type some text and you are done.

Export your documents to HTML, PDF, and many blog/wiki engines including WordPress, MindTouch, Confluence and Google Sites. Or combine multiple documents into entire manuals that you can export to HTML, PDF or Microsoft Word.

carl thorpe I am not affiliated with Blue Mango in any way, nor do I receive any compensation for any sales.

I have been a ScreenSteps customer since v1. I happily paid to upgrade to v2 when it was released.

When I first started using ScreenSteps, I was teaching at a middle school that had a 1:1 laptop program. I used ScreenSteps to author the entire library of documentation that we had available to our students. As far as I know, the majority of that documentation is still used, and what new documents they have available were also produced with ScreenSteps.

Now., I work from home and one of my jobs is to provide technical support to various clients. Many of my customers are not technically inclined at all, and really need visual guidance. At least once a week I fire up ScreenSteps to create step-by-step instructions for some task that they need to perform. It regularly saves me having to spend time on the phone, in chat, or in person.

One of the best parts is that you can do timed screenshots. You click the screenshot button and then have a set amount of time to get the screen how you want it. This allows you to open drop-down menus so you can really show what to select from menus.

On top of that, you have a set of drawing tools that give you everything you need to call attention to parts of your screenshot, provide sequential steps, and block out any parts you want to hide.

Curious Steve I don't see a way to have steps automatically numbered. Am I overlooking something?

Greg DeVore @Stephen - Anyone who purchases through BitsDuJour will get a free upgrade to the next major version of ScreenSteps Pro. Version 3 is actually going to have a name change. It will be called Clarify Docs. So if you purchase through BitsDuJour today you will get a free upgrade to Clarify Docs when it becomes available.

We don't have a release date yet for Clarify Docs but it should be in Q1 of 2013.

Greg DeVore @Curious Steve - In the current version of ScreenSteps Pro you can't auto number steps. But in the next major version you will be able to.

Curious Steve I own Clarify. Given the name change to Clarify Docs, are you merging the two, or will still be distinct products? Put another way, I'm I better served picking up this deal or going with an upgrade price on Clarify when Clarify Docs releases?

Greg DeVore @Curious Steve - They will be two separate products.

Julien User @ Greg Devore :

If you rename ScreenSteps for version 3 and give it the name of Clarify Docs, does it mean that it will be a major overhaul with an interface similar to Clarify?

My interpretation is that there will be Clarify (which will somewhat replace ScreenSteps Standard) and Clarify Docs which will be the new ScreenSteps Pro. Is it a good interpretation?

Greg DeVore @Julien -

That is pretty close. Clarify will still be mostly like Clarify is now. Clarify Docs will have the functionality of ScreenSteps Pro with an interface similar to Clarify's.

If you want to see a peak of what the changes will look like you can check out this webinar:

http://www4.bluemangolear...eensteps-3

This webinar shows off changes coming to ScreenSteps Live, our hosted service. Clarify Docs won't be getting all of these features, especially the collaboration ones. But the document authoring features will be very similar.

Ken Carlino Hi Greg,

I am currently a customer of ScreenSteps Live and find ScreenSteps to be a fine program. If I should turn off the Live subscription will my license to ScreenSteps Pro remain active so that I can still manage my documents, generate stand-alone PDFs etc?

Thank you!

Greg DeVore @Ken -

No, you would need to purchase a full ScreenSteps Pro license if you cancel your ScreenSteps Live account.
