Yes, you can transfer license to another computer.

Actually - you can use one serial number on two computers - and on the PC of the recepient of your hidden messages.

Stefan Hauber If I send (or make accessible) an encrypted image-picture, who doesn't have bought SecretLayer, is he able to get the information out of it? Or has he buy SecretLayer too?

If he has to, I think for many people it's a reason not to buy, because it's hard to persuade all the people you want to send some personal information, to spend money, So, if not already there, do you consider to create a free decrypt-only version? (If the receiver likes the program, he will consider buying the also-encrypt version too...).

Dmitry Goncharenko You can use one serial on TWO computers according SecretLayer license - one for you and one for your recipient.

You can even hide serial in one image with no encryption and sent this image to your recipient. He can extract this info with one-week trial version and register his copy.

Michael R. Can I do all these things also via command-line-parameters?

Can it occur that when I want to hide something inside a single picture, that the picture is not big enough or is SL so flexible, that it changes the picture a little bit more, so the file will fit in anyway? (Or with other words: Is the number of bytes being able to be hiden in a given picture always the same, because the method used to get this done always is static?)

Dmitry Goncharenko No you can use command line in this version.

If your image is not enough - just use few images for one peace of data.

About the amount of data:
in 169 kB .png file you can hide 38kB of data.
In 3.9mb .jpg you can hide also 39kB of data.

To hide 1 GB of data you'll need about 5 GB of .png images.

Dmitry Goncharenko Of course its not specially designed for digital watermarking, but the SecretLayer using exactly same concept. So, you can use it for protection of your photos.

But lets clarify what does it give to you:
Digital Watermark can't protect your photo fro re-publishing somwhere, but you found illigal useing of your photos - you can extract hidden data (your copyrights) from this photos and prove that it yours in the court and so on.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/w...termarking

Dmitry Goncharenko @ Noggin The Nog

1. The software does not need the original image to find the hidden data. You can even shred original image, and we always recomend to do this. There is only one way to detect stegonography (not to extract data - just to find that hidden data is present in the image) - to compare original image and image with hidden data.
How is it so identifiable - we can't explain because of security reasons.

2. You absolutely right - the pro version allows you to encrypt the data on a password before hiding it in the image.

S B SecretLayer seems clean and very easy to use.

May I ask
1) is there random "salt" with encryption? (will the same data, encryption password, and method always yield the same modified image?)
2) does the hidden message include a "checksum"?
3) can you comment more on how images are modified (LSBits?)
4) does SecretLayer allow much of the "tweaking" possible in OpenPuff, for example?
5) do you intend to extend SecretLayer to hide data in archive files?
6) Many thanks!

The "Advices" page on SecretLayer's website is concise and nice!
(I think that the rightmost example pixel in image with hidden data in the "How Does it Work" example might have an intended green value of 213 rather than 113)

Thanks for a nice product!

Stefan Hauber Looking at your website, but haven't tested the trial yet, it looks like a quite interesting program...

But I think it would have (even) more success (in form of more selled items), if there would be a free limitated version, being able to get the hidden messages/files back (of course without being able to hide one in an image? (Perhaps there is?) To be able to share a single license, you talked about above, with a single person is nice, but if I want to encrypt some data for a group of person (without expecting an encrypted feedback), I can hardly force them all to buy SL... So for doing this a user with this intention can't use SL and so he wouldn't buy SL at all.

Some additional questions:

If a person suspects that certain image(s) contain encrypted data and he also has SL, can he find out (i.e. if or if not) without knowing the password?

In your video you say, you have to know the password, encryption-type and key-length to be able to decrypt? Isn't the password not enough? Do I also have to know, in case something is encrypted in more than one pictures, the pictures and the order of the pictures?

What's the filesize-percentage of the data I am able to hide in a picture? (Or with other word, if a picture has a size of 1MB, how many bytes can I hide in it?) Can I vary it. E.g. if my data are not extremely secret, can I decide to pack e.g. two bits (instead of one) into the color-information of one pixel?

Which images are supported? BMP, JPG, ...?
If I have a BMP-image with hidden data, and I rotate it by 90° and the recepient rotates it back, no data should be lost and the data should be extractable again, shouldn't it?

Thank you

Dmitry Goncharenko @ S B

1) is there random "salt" with encryption? (will the same data, encryption password, and method always yield the same modified image?)

Not yet, but in the next versions this feature will be implemented. The main issue for this is just proper UI solution)

2) does the hidden message include a "checksum"?

Yes. Checksum is used to detect is there any valid data in the image and to verify decrypted data. This verification comes after collecting all the data from all images and decryption of that collected data. Putting checksum inside of the decrypted package allows to slow down brute force attacks.

3) can you comment more on how images are modified (LSBits?)

Yes, there is simple LSB, that hides data to lowest bits of random pixels (actually to random color channels of random pixels). That random pixels are chosen upon the encryption settings.

4) does SecretLayer allow much of the "tweaking" possible in OpenPuff, for example?

Not all of them. The main reason for this (as with "salt") - proper UI solutions. We have lots of features that we need to place on a limited UI space. So besides functionality implementation we have to resolve usability issues.

5) do you intend to extend SecretLayer to hide data in archive files?

I can't say for sure, but I think that there is no way to use archive files as a proper steganography container due to their nature. Of course you can write your data to the end of WinRar archive (and it will still work as WinRar archive), but this is not a safe way.

6) Many thanks!

You're welcome)

Dmitry Goncharenko @ Brian De Bragança

Am I right in believing that any file types can be hidden - e.g. image files, vid files, executables, etc?

Yes, you're right. There is no distinction between types of the hidden data for SecretLayer and you can hide anything you need.

What about a folder containing files? When extracting, would the original folder structure and all files in it be recreated?

You can hide only files with no folder structure. If you need to keep your folder structure, you can use archive files (ZIP, RAR, etc)

What about already compressed archives - e.g ZIP, RAR, 7z files? When extracted, they should be able to be uncompressed without problems, right? (This might take care of the preceding question about folders?

As I mentioned in the previous comment SecretLayer uses checksums for verifying integrity of the extracted data. So yes, there will no any problems with decompressing archives.

Is there a portable version of Secret Layer Pro that can be run from a thumb drive?

No. There is some software protection issues for that feature

VLM Dmitry Goncharenko - Given the business in which you engage, there is something you ought to know. (Actually, it's something everyone ought to know. :) You write:

"When you purchase SecretLayer - you can install it in to two PC. So, one license is enough to organize data exchange between 2 persons."

In law, "persons" are corporations. ... ALWAYS, ALWAYS, AND ALWAYS. In contrast, people are, well, people. So you mean to say "between 2 PEOPLE".

On another note, that one can hide archives is impressive and VERY useful, I think. Order 2 licenses (2x2)

Stefan Hauber Hello...
Have you overseen my questions above?
Apr 13 2013 at 2:17pm Copy Link
0
Dmitry Goncharenko @Stefan Hauber Yes, sorry for delay.

Regarding free version for extracting of hidden messages - can be good idea, thank you. We will think.

If a person suspects that certain image(s) contain encrypted data and he also has SL, can he find out (i.e. if or if not) without knowing the password?

- No. No way to detect hidden data existance without password

In your video you say, you have to know the password, encryption-type and key-length to be able to decrypt? Isn't the password not enough? Do I also have to know, in case something is encrypted in more than one pictures, the pictures and the order of the pictures?

You need to know 3 things: password, encryption-type and key-length for decryption.

In a case if data was hidden in a group of images - you need all this images together for extraction. Order is not important. If you will try to extract data from one image from this group - it will look-like empty. This is done to avoid steganography detection in a case if you sent images from one group by different channels.

You can hide 1Mb of data in the 5 Mb of .png images. Capacity of .jpg it's around 1-3% from the file size. You can't vary the amount of data, it limited by possibility of the container image. For maximum protection we recomend not to fill the capacity of the image up to 100% but 20-40%.

Which images are supported? BMP, JPG, ...?
If I have a BMP-image with hidden data, and I rotate it by 90° and the recepient rotates it back, no data should be lost and the data should be extractable again, shouldn't it?

Jpg, png, gif. You can't rotate, resize and edit images with hidden data.

Greg Newell Transaction worked great for me. Took all of 5 minutes.(used paypal). Software works exactly as expected. Note that if you want to send encrypted document to someone else, you'll need two copies of this software... One for the sender and one for the receiver. If you're encrypting documents for your own purposes, you'll only need a single copy. Also, make sure you remember the encryption method you used. If you forget, you'll be going through trial and error until you get the right one to work on the un-encrypt process. So if your using this between two parties, I'd recommend you both agree on the encryption methods ahead of time.

Question for the developer: What effect on the image does each encryption method have? Other than level of security, is there any reason to choose a specific encryption method?

Je suis allé voir et la version pro est en téléchargement séparé.
J'ai l'impression de m'être fait avoir ?

Avatar Still unable to get my PayPal payment confirmed... looks like you're losing out on a sale because of problems with the service you're using. Too bad, the software looked interesting and I looked forward to trying it out.

Avatar @Constantin Florea, thanks, but I've tried 3x and they claim they can't verify payment each time. Not too optimistic they'll get it sorted as it's all on their end.

Greg Newell Marko, just download the trial on BitsDuJour and activate with the code you got from the purchase. I had the same problem. That solved it.
