LU Will you please explain your lifetime license option to clarify its upgrade policy? Also, is the lifetime license exclusive to BitsDuJour? Finally when was the last update performed?

Thank you.
Dec 1 2015 at 3:22am Copy Link

2LogicalSolutions @Peter User: If a text document meets your needs, by all means please use it. For some professionals more control and flexibility is needed over their licensing such as storing all their purchasing data with the product, something the embedded features of SerialSafe allow.

@Lifetime Upgrades: The version given away today is 15.1.0.02. This version and license will never expire for you. You can use it as long as you like. If you want to upgrade to any newer version when it is released you would need the lifetime upgrade. Typically the lifetime version is $14.95, but we are offering it today with the promotion at a discount. If you opt not to go that path, don't worry, 15.1.0.02 will always work for you. The latest version was released the week of November 22, 2015. The next update will hopefully be released before the end of 2015.

Meindert User Yes, I am with Peter in this. Unless there is an option to extract serials from installed software and store them. But I thinks that is not what this software does?
Dec 1 2015 at 4:57am Copy Link

2LogicalSolutions @Meindert User: Yes, all data can be extracted from the product. You are not "bound" to using the product once you start. There are multiple options for getting the data out, depending on which data you want. Embedded items can be extracted, products metadata can be exported or printed.

Kelly Hamblin I very much like small one-trick applications. I have a very similar app on my XP machine, but in Win7 it gives me grief, so this little program interests me. Yes, one can use a text file or a spreadsheet, but it is so much safer in an app designed specifically to store the information.

Is there a way to view all the information in a Spreadsheet-like format? Or must the information be accessed one page at a time? I was unable to find such a view in the screenshots. Also, I checked the website and found a list of supported file types, but didn't see .rtf. Surely it supports .rtf?

2LogicalSolutions @Kelly Hamblin: You can export the information to CSV, tab delimited text and XML. The XML can be opened in Excel via drag/drop into Excel. CJCotter 1) You have to manually enter everything. It would be great if this program scanned our computer for the licenses, obtaining as much information as possible automatically. Then we could fill in the rest.

2) @Peter states "A simple text-document is enough..." No it's not. It's been my (limited?) experience that viruses and ransomware targets known files. The output file from this program are common files. The programmers need to create a new output file type that malicious software has never seen before, and hopefully, ignores.

Jim Hilton Why does this software scan my devices? I still use a floppy and during program startup the program grinds the computer to a halt as it is scanning this obsolete device.

2LogicalSolutions @CJCotter: #1, this item will be in a future version. Please note that some functionality is possible via drag/drop of an .exe, .mis, .rar and .zip file (default types). Under Settings > Import > Allowed Extensions For Import you can edit these types. Drag/Drop one of these file types into the Product pane and it will import any data available in the file, such as product name, publisher, etc... Please note the data has to exist in the file type.

#2, the standard database for SerialSafe is not a standard type that would be impacted. This should help to prevent from the attach type you discuss. The export type(s) are only for when you want to get the data out of the system and are not used by the program natively in any fashion.

Kelly Hamblin You wrote: Jim Putin @Kelly Hamblin: I can include a feature to meet your needs if you can elaborate on what you are looking for? Are you looking for a singular view with the ability to manipulate the column set?
.............
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: I don't mind using the different dialog boxes to enter the data, though I don't see the need for so many of them when 1 would do. But I would definitely want to see all the data at once and be able to at least sort it by name or date purchased or whatever. Like is possible in Excel, and Excel clones, and my old Software database.

Mustang How does this program handle multiple licenses for the same program/version?
Dec 1 2015 at 3:24pm Copy Link
0
2LogicalSolutions @Mustang: Currently you would add each program into the software and track them independently. So, if you had five seats of Microsoft Office you would add the product five times and track the licenses (and any assets) independently. It is currently done this way to work more functionally with the Asset Management feature(s).
An alternative would be to track as one product and use the comments section to track the license. You could then put a note in the serial field stating "SEE COMMENTS". You could still track assets using this method, it just would not allow you to see which asset used which key.

Mike Shanahan @CJCOTTER You said: "You have to manually enter everything. It would be great if this program scanned our computer for the licenses, obtaining as much information as possible automatically. Then we could fill in the rest."

This would blacklist the program in a hurry in malware scans. If this functionality that you described was available, it would become a software license harvester. A hacking tool. It would be blacklisted in a heartbeat.

0
2LogicalSolutions @Mike Shanahan: You are correct, and this is one of the things we are bouncing around. What level of scanning provides the best level of return vs. the level of potential issues. Right know the thought is to capture installed program data and allow the user to determine if they want to use it to define a product in SerialSafe. Once they determine that, they can import most information about the product and manually enter the license information.

J Hello,

How many years has SerialSafe been in development? I'm curious because of the high (15.x) version number.

When was the current version released? How often are updates released?

Do you 'version history' page on your website? I couldn't find one.

I found a few bugs in the current version.

Thank you.

2LogicalSolutions @J
SerialSafe has been in development since 2011. The version number is 15, correlating to the last year of a major update. The software was completely rewritten in 2015 and released. Since then the product has been maintained at that major version number. The next major release (improved interface, updated database functionality, etc...) will be released as version 16. This is purely a preference for versioning the product.

The current version was released on 02/23/2016. As an independent developer (read owner/developer) I release updates as I can, on no set schedule. With that said, the next version is under way and should be released within the next couple weeks. If you would like a list of what will be in that version please email me at info@serialsafe.info.

Currently there is not a version history page or data on the website. I will be looking to add this data on the next website update, which will correlate to the next release of the software. If you want a full list sooner than that please email me at info@serialsafe.info.

Lastly, if you have located bugs please send them to me at info@serialsafe.info. I do my best to resolve critical bugs as quickly as possible, even sending temporary builds to customers if needed. I the event that the issue is not critical, it would get implemented in the next version.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any additional questions/comments.

Thank you,
Christopher

Can you provide some additional details on what it is not allowing you to do? Once the import file is selected, it should open up a dialog that allows you to map the source columns (from the CSV) into the desired destination field. Next to each field there should be a dropdown for you to select the value, which equates to the column name.

The license file type for embedding supports all file types. You can also store activation information, such as .reg keys into the Additional Information embedded tab. Either place works as a good point for storage of key/registration files.

Cool User Christopher,
Greetings, and thanks for this offer.
Is this software just a database to store Product Keys manually, or does it actually extract such keys from installed applications and/or the registry?
Your promotional description above does not clarify.

2LogicalSolutions @Cool User:
Currently it does not scan/extract keys from a system. There is an enhancement request on the list to do such but it is still under evaluation. Processing an extraction of license information will throw a big red flag to many Antivirus and malware programs so I am weighing the benefits of it vs. other options. I think at the very least a function to scan all installed software and populate basic information will be implemented in the near future.

Cool User @Christopher,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Being as such, this is useless for me, but no doubt it is useful for others.
Easier for me to simply put such keys in a text file on a thumb-drive.
Currently there are programs that scan & extract such information, as you may very well know, and they do not trigger Avast or MalwareByte or MS Essentials or Comodo on my various machines.
However, I fully understand your concerns.
Best of luck.

Mark Magill I would just like to add my vote to the consideration of auto-scanning the existing serial information on a system. Entering then one-by-one would be tedious, at best. And the chances of missing one that is important seems great. I have a "production" machine with many things installed, and entering them one at a time would take a LONG time.

None the less, I like the program so far and have installed it, with thanks to you for sharing it. Note I installed the 64-bit version, with no issues at all, nor did I have any issues with it triggering antivirus, as some above did - I use Norton Security. - Again, thanks. -- Mark

Does that cover minor update only? Or also major upgrades?

Thanks in advance.

2LogicalSolutions @Cool User:
For the sake of transparency, two additional concerns are 1.) digital signatures (which would help with the Antivirus/Malware side) and 2.) non-standard license storage. For digital signatures, its an investment that I've just opted to forgo right now and instead have reinvested into other items such as the new embedded database backend that will be in the next major version. For non-standard licensing, its mostly a concern for capturing the broadest spectrum of common software vs. the return of time investment. This is definitely a hot topic that I am actively investigating for end users. My goal is to make SerialSafe the go-to software for this type of functionality. Your feedback is definitely appreciated!

Thank you for your feedback. I am actively reviewing the scanning options. I think at a minimum a scanning function to populate all product information from installed programs is a must. This method would leave the end user with only serial numbers to address.

Do to overwhelming requests for a scanning feature, I have decided that this will be implemented in the next release (15.1.0.06). I will be implementing a scan routine to populate products. I will NOT be implementing a serial capture scan at this time; that will remain on the open request list until a later date. The scan will allow you to capture the bulk of your installed software data to prevent having to fill all information, except serial number, out.

Cool User Christopher,
Thanks again.
While at it, here is another idea, or suggestion.
You may want to consider monitoring software installation, and automatically grabbing a serial key as it is entered, and storing it in the DB.
May not be as simple as being said, but it's a challenge, and food for thought.
Perhaps can be done by running a "small" Service in the background.
I'm sure you understand the rest.

Yes, I realize that digital signature can be a heavy investment for such a small business.
Thanks again.

Jeroen User As a programmer myself, reading a serial key is really difficult. Some serials are in software themselves, some are in the setups. All different executable names. It's really hard to do so, it'd be easier to scan for serials in registries and in specific files.

Does the registration code really needs to be that long?
Apr 8 2016 at 5:39pm Copy Link

2LogicalSolutions @Cool User:
Technically, no, I could opt to use a simpler licensing schema. I did this back under the release before versions 15 and the software was cracked by someone and published online (search google for SerialSafe crack) and you will see it for version 11.3. This cost a lot of sales because I did not sell a single license after that was released until version 15. I invested in some more advanced licensing to help make it more difficult (nothing is 100% crack proof) and so far the results have been positive. The length will vary, based on the user registration information, as it is embedded into the license. Sadly, there are a lot of people that will use cracked/illegal versions of software and as a developer (both for SerialSafe and for my full time job) nothing is more disheartening than having someone steal your hard work.

Adam Bryan In trying out your software (to test its usefulness) I have come across a few issues:

- No Tutorial to guide the user on how to use the software (correctly); yes I looked at the 'Help' both online and offline.
- Embedding an installer works but I cannot remove it; there is a bin icon but its greyed out.
- Can on only embed one installer; so if I wanted to keep both a installer version and a portable version I am forced to choose or use the local installer path option.
- Changed Currency to GBP and I went to another tab then immediately returned only to have it set back at USD.
- Additional Information would be better if double clicking opened/extraced the file; I understand the idea of this but it is a very limiting feature, which with one small tweak I could have used to solve my earlier alternate version problem.
- Asset Management Tab should have 'Manage Assets' button, it was confusing to have to add an asset via toolbar menu only.

Feature Ideas:
- Limit Database Size (for example to for backup to disc or to simply stop massive file size)
- Have a single location (user changeable) for installer files, possibly structured so for example 'Product Name' then 'Version' thus improving upon 'Local Installer Path' making it more of 'Add Installer to Local Path'. The idea being to keep the installers and the database together but not in a single database file.
- Multiple Databases; this may seem an odd request but again one big large database can be counterproductive, personally I would like to compartmentalize hence multiple databases.

Other than the above mentioned issues, some of which you may correct me on, your software is very good and shows a lot of potential. Keep up the good work.

[EDIT] Just noticed that a 'Temp' directory was created when double clicking an item in the Additional Info Tab but still nothing happened apparent to the user so either launch the file or open explorer window of the 'Temp' Directory; would be more useful. Also how is this a temporary directory when the files remain even after closing your software? - there is not even a clear temp directory option within your software.

2LogicalSolutions @Adam Bryan:
- Yes, currently there are no tutorials. Mostly this is because a major rewrite is underway and I did not want to duplicate efforts. Once the next major version (ver. 16) is released there will be tutorials and videos.
- Embedded installer extraction issues is on the list of bugs and is resolved in the next release, which is in the final development stages. Resolved in 15.1.0.06.
- Incorrect. True, you can only store one installer under the installer button itself, but every product/version has an Additional Information tab that allows you to store any document type. The alternate installers can easily be stored here.
- Currency issue is on the list of bugs and is resolved in the next release, which also implements an improved currency textbox and much broader support for currency types. Resolved/improved in 15.1.0.06.
- Extraction options are added as an enhancement in 15.1.0.06, as well as clearing the temporary directory where this data is extracted for previewing.
- Noted and added to the enhancement list for implementation. I may be able to get this into 15.1.0.06 release.

In regards to features; first thank you for taking the time to provide. They are greatly appreciated.
- Database limit; this is an interesting idea and I have placed it on the enhancement list.
- Installer files; an idea similar to this is on the enhancement list. I may implement something like this in the major release update, as it will lend itself nicely to the new structure of also supporting multiple databases.
- Multiple database; on the enhancement list and will be implemented in the next major version.

Again, thank you for taking the time to reach out. Please don't hesitate to provide any additional feedback. Without the user community I can't improve the software!

Right now, the plan is to release a testing version (when it is ready) to all users that maintain a license, including promotional licenses. BitsDuJour will provide me with an email list of participants and I plan to extend it to those users. There will also be a SurveyMonkey request coming out in the future to users as well to help guide the interface design.

J S I'll ask this question even though it may seem silly, but the details under "The Fine Print" tab leave me wondering if they only apply to today's free version or both today's free version AND Paid Lifetime Licenses:

Question: Does a (Paid) Lifetime License also have to pay for new UPGRADES?

(Upgrades being version 15.x to ver 16.x, v17.x etc, (whereas Updates are v15.01 to v15.99))

Many Thanks, in anticipation of a reply during the deal period.

Today's version will never expire and is good for life, it cannot, however be upgrade to any newer version. If you purchase a lifetime upgrade through the promotion, or purchase a license through the SerialSafe website, it is good for life and all versions, regards of major/minor release. Let me know if this does not clarify it for you.

Thank you for the wonderfully kind words; you must be very successfully in your 32 years as an IT "PRO" with the professional attitude that you just displayed. As an IT "PRO" I am sure you know how helpful your comment was to actually resolving the problem. I really appreciate the part were you elaborated on what systems you were running (Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, etc...), what flavor (32/64bit) of SerialSafe you were running, if it was portable or installed... Also, little details such as what Antivirus you are running, what your UAC settings are.. I can go on and on regarding how helpful you just were. Again, thank you for the wonderful comments posted.

Oh wait.. you did get it to properly work. So obviously something was wrong with your machine or environment and not the software. Glad you provided a tirade to belittle me as a "loser" when there wasn't actually a problem in the software.

In regards to your issue licensing the software, I find it amazing that over 1400 people have registered the software successfully, but you as a IT "PRO" have been unable to using the same instructions posted.

Please, do take the time to post on your international IT-blogs of your inability to register a simple piece of software. I wish you the best of luck in all you do sir, and I am sorry that my "amateurism" hasn't been able to successfully provide you with a free piece of software.

Patrocle Misu "I think at the very least a function to scan all installed software and populate basic information will be implemented in the near future."
I will buy the Lifetime License if down the road the auto scanning and auto adding will be added to the software, hope soon and not buying the software and wait another 6 months a year.

My suggestion is if you add auto scanning you can create a other licensee and sell for $19.99 and have the other one still at 14.99 so people have a choice, if they don't want to pay few buck's more.
Apr 10 2016 at 5:41am Copy Link
0
2LogicalSolutions @Patrocle Misu:
The goal is to implement the scanning for products in two fashions. The first will be by scanning the installed programs and capturing all the information about such, to allow for each product population. The second would be by scanning a directory (or directories) of installers for documents of supported extension types to allow for product population based off the document property data.

Right now the installed program scanning is going to be in 15.1.0.06 which is tentative for release within the next 3-4 weeks.

I do like your suggestion on the tiered pricing, thank you!

Tortuga @Christopher, Hi :)
Hope wife & kids r feeling better !!! [And don't worry abt ppl complaining, family comes first!!]
** Abt the scanning option: Indeed, I do agree it will be a *fantastic* addition to your app. Also agree w Patrocle's suggestion, to separate the apps, one with/another without the scan function, so there wd b less problems w AVs blocking it ;)
And to raise the price!, as I think it will b a LOT more work to implement the scan option.
** Earlier, Cool User suggested the app could monitor the install, to grab the RegKey automatically. It's a great idea! In the meantime, there is already a great app from Nir Sofer that does that: Nirsoft's RegFromApp, and, it's Portable too! :)

Hope this helps

Eric Dear Mr Sonon,

SerialSafe being just the software I have been dreaming for since 1994(!) without having found any like it on the market (have used PasswordsPlus to store info that pertained to Software / Hardware purchases and their licenses), I purchased the Lifetime License for SerialSafe without need of any persuasion :)

This being said, here are a couple of feedbacks (still prior to actual installation of the product):

1. Despite my having purchased the Lifetime License (as well as your stating, in this conversation, that such a license secures all future minor & major updates / upgrades of the pack), the e-mailed purchase confirmation I received from BitsDuJour states that I'll have to pay for future upgrades ...
While probably a mistake in the confirmation mail, you may wish to have this one checked and get (via BdJ) corrective mails to all the purchasers of the Lifetime License.

2. You mentioned somewhere in this conversation that the EXE & SSBD files have to reside in the SAME folder.
Some of the "best practices" advocate separation of executables from data, and -- being an IT person myself -- I have implemented this as much as possible (Windows is not the perfect target for this ...) on all my PCs, having the executables and their data on separate partitions / volumes.
Your requirement kind of violates this arrangement...
Why not add a Registry key for the location of the data (or, should you like to preserve portability, add an entry into a local INI or CFG file)?
Even better, why not allow for MULTIPLE SSDB files (just as MS-Word allows for multiple DOC files)?

Your attention to both of the above will be much appreciated.

Keep on the great work,

Sincerely,

Eric Trattner

Thank you for your purchase and support.
#1 - I can confirm that the license is lifetime for all minor and major versions. BitsDuJour handles the confirmation email but I will work with them on future promotions to ensure this is worded correctly. thank you for bringing this to my attention.
#2 - The product grew out of portability methodology and not originally an installed program. Because of this it went with the standard method of having it reside aside the product itself. As the product has grown it is obvious this is not the best way to handle it. When version 16 is released, it will support the multiple database functionality similar to what you suggest.

Please don't hesitate to post or reach out with any additional feedback. It always helps!

I'm using the 64 Bit version on Windows 7 x64.

' ----- No idea if this applies -----
A quick google of "assembly binding logging is off" says you have to enable 32-bit applications on 64 bit OS in the advanced settings of your IDE. see last reply @ http://forums.asp.net/t/1...turned+OFF + or probably something similar if not using ASP.net

2LogicalSolutions @Danny: The software is for anyone that has software licenses to manage. Is it "necessary"; that depends on the end user. There are many satisfied users of SerialSafe that would not do without it. For some a simply, insecure, text/excel file works... It really depends on your needs. The software works well to manage licenses/registration codes/serial number/installers and more, all in a portable package. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Indusekar SK How are these numbers stored? in a doc or txt file or creates a db ?
Does we need to input the serial numbers or it autodetects
Does it create a catalog or index of serial numbers stored?

What are other features?
Jan 15 2017 at 11:52pm Copy Link

2LogicalSolutions @Indusekar SK: The data is stored in a secure database. You can either input numbers, scan for installed products (with limited registration/serial capture) or import them from existing formats such as TXT, CSV or Excel. Scanning of installed serial numbers has been excluded to prevent malicious software flagging. You can read more about some features on the website: http://www.serialsafe.info/features.html

Unfortunately, the exclusion of scanning for installed serial numbers really diminishes the usefulness of the program (for me), as I have many, many programs installed.

John User I bought a lifetime license the last time this was offered and I have been very pleased with this software. If you're like me you purchase a lot of programs through shareware and try-it deals. I have a lot of programs I bought this way and through commercial sites. Each program comes with its own license number, registration info, user name, sometimes a password, etc. etc. I have found Serial Safe a godsend in putting all of this information together for me. A couple of points based on my experience of using the software:

1. When you have a lot of programs there will be quite a bit of time gathering up the data and entering it into Serial Safe as might be expected. Serial Safe makes it easy to sort, enter and save the data.

2. When my computer died I purchased another and Serial Safe was one of the first programs I installed so I had the information readily available for installing other programs. I have to say I did have a little difficulty with the export/import mapping getting the fields right.

3. There are many features in the program that I probably need to study more. One I have not been able to get to work, though, is the PRINT function. I would like to be able to print a hard copy of my programs if possible, but the PRINT menu item always seems to be greyed out.

In all, this is one of the best programs I have and it really helps me manage all the software program info.

William Henry I have ACCESS 2016 and I have created a Database of all the licenses of games, utilities, and operating systems. These have to be updated constantly as new programs are added and/or removed. I was just wondering if the program SerialSafe just went into the Computers Registry or Registers and kept an up to date listing?
I had a similar program like SerialSafe and it required input of the data but when reinstalling a program that was deleted or lost this similar program filled in the license information for you. This was during my Windows 98 days and installing programs was made from a disk with a license written down and not from the "cloud," sorry I can't remember that program now.

2LogicalSolutions @William Henry: Information can be added through manual, import and scanning methods. Scanning will scan the registry for installed program information. Which may or may not include license information depending on where the software keeps that information; as it varies for each program.

JW Hi Christopher.
Disorganised as I am about such things, I found I've already got two Paid Upgrade licences for your program - one bought in Dec 2015 and again accidentally in March 2016. This is a program I really need - if only to prevent me spending more money unnecessarily on duplicate licences like this!
The part I do find hard to use is the input section, where it's not easy to see which of multiple versions of the programs I'm dealing with at the time.
I like the look of your Ribbon bar I saw in the survey, and so plan to 'invest' in a Lifetime payment for one copy, and give it another go to see if I can get the (literally!) hundreds of License details that I've paid for over the years into some sort of order, having been using a portable Notes application most recently. [That has almost worked, but because the data is rather free-form it doesn't allow any form of sorting available.]

Robert Kantor The database appears to be encrypted, but not with a password that I can set. How do access my db directly? I would like to be able to set my own encryption password. Not a default application encryption.
Jan 18 2017 at 6:26am Copy Link
0
2LogicalSolutions @Robert Kantor: This is not possible. The database is encrypted with a secure password from SerialSafe. If you want to access the DB directly there is a Run Data Script function under Database drop down. This will let you run select, insert, update, etc... statements against the database.
SerialSafe - Jan 18 2017 at 6:33am Copy Link
0
Robert Kantor @Christopher Sonon: by not allowing the user to select the db encryption key, the only people who can access the data is SerialSafe devs. This is not "secure" for a corporate IT environment. Since the keyholders are unknown.
Jan 18 2017 at 7:35am Copy Link
0
2LogicalSolutions @Robert Kantor: If i allow the end user to create their own key, the key has to be stored somewhere, in some fashion. This could be done locally via an encrypted method but then you are in the same situation where one part of the key pair is known by the software and not the end user. I've added your request to the enhancement list for future review. However, the data can be accessed by others outside SerialSafe, there are several methods that allow for this, such as the script, print, export, etc... features.

Robert Kantor @Christopher Sonon: the database script resulting grid is not adjustable - therefore, the columns are set and cannot be enlarged to see the data in the columns. As is, this is unusable without copying the resulting grid to excel to view.

Steven Avery Imho, there is no reason not to scan the registry. Such tools are available easily, even for free and from reputable sources (e.g. Nirsoft) and you are only scanning your own system.

SerialSafe looks like a fine product, but it really should have the scan registry function. Why should we two-step and type in long-complex numbers?

Gary Smith It appears that the option to "Require Password to Show Serials" is no longer available when "Mask Serial Numbers" is checked.

In the description text above, ...
>Too much trouble to encrypt? SerialSafe offers you the ability to mask serial numbers so that no one can see the full serial number even if you leave the program unattended.
Under Settings Interface Tab, if I have Mask Serial Numbers, what prevents someone from unchecking the same option to see the serials?
Jan 18 2017 at 4:49pm Copy Link
0
2LogicalSolutions @Gary Smith: I just tested your comment and it works correctly. You must have a password defined on the Settings > Database > Password Protected Opening option, this will then enable the Require Password options. The Require Password to Show Serials is only enabled when both the Password Protected Opening and the Mask Serial/License Numbers are enabled. *EDIT: Also you can enable the Require Password to Open Settings to prevent undesired changes by other users.

Robert User Purchasers of software have a wide range, from those that do no understand why this program needs to even exist (just a few notes in a file to keeping a spreadsheet/Access database), to those of us that have a lot more to keep track of, and seriously welcome a great solution. I've used plain text files, spreadsheets, and my own database, but due to the growing needs, I have to spend more time on my tracking software than getting to use the software that I have purchased.

I know that this program's main purpose is to help track and maintain software license keys, but there does seem to be some additional bits of data that the program already supports that go along with software tracking. I think these are valuable features that no other software has fully handled previously.

Due to Custom fields, I understand that the program can handle just about any type of extra data, but having features built in makes it more of a convincing buy.

I notice that there is a field for Purchased Date, and a Warranty Expiration Date, but what about some other related fields. Currently, the software has SN/License Number, but some software considers these two different things. I just a trouble ticket on a software program that required me to supply the SN of my software, not the License key or the Order Number. Order number is another important piece of data to track. Order number is related to a purchase, and therefore can be different when the software is upgraded later. I have found that the Serial Number can also be related to a version. Likewise, a new License Key system could be implemented by the developer, so different versions could have different license keys, and requirements for activation (one might not require a name, only a license key, but an updated version might require more data).

An important bit of data is how long I have to return a purchase if it does not work out. I would like a Money Back guarantee field that can show me how many days I have left. It is common to give a 30-day money back guarantee, and even 60-day, and some even offer a 90-day money back guarantee (purchased one today). I assure you that given the choice of purchasing additional software from multiple developers, I will rank the company that has given me a 90-day money back guarantee over one that has given me a 60-day money back guarantee. I would to sort the vendors based on this type of data. Even if I need to do a money-back guarantee, I would like to still track the software in the database.

Purchase price is important, but when the software was offered at a discount, it would be nice to track the replacement cost.

The warranty date field (already provided) is valuable for support. Another important bit of data is how long I can upgrade the software before needing to pay more, and to what version number. I really like Lifetime Upgrade software, so if there was a field that included this flag, it relieves some stress on the user (I don't have to panic or worry about getting the upgrade downloaded and installed within an upcoming deadline). Many companies offer lifetime support, even if they do not offer lifetime upgrades. I would like to track that.

For Trial software, it would be nice to know when it was installed, and when the trial ends.

Giveaway software is another category that has its own tracking issues. Most Giveaway versions cannot be upgraded without invalidating the current version. Having a lot of software, sometimes I have to do a lot of digging to find out if it is a program I purchased, or if it is one that I have a Giveaway version of. I would like to track important details of this type of software, such as when the software must be installed by, or if it can be re-installed later. Some Giveaway software have allowed delayed installs, or repeated re-installs even. In cases where the software cannot be installed later, I probably would not want to embed the installer into the database.

For software that "un-registers" itself, I would like to record and track which ones claimed one thing then did something different.

I have software for different operating systems, so tracking that data is also important. An update or upgrade can drop off an older OS. Tracking that change is important to users.

I also would like to track where my downloaded versions of software is located, and the locations that I have backups.

I can see an ongoing list of items to track regarding software, and your program seems most in line to provide the features we need. Whether it remains as a tracking tool for License keys or more is up to you the developer. I suspect that you have already realized the need to provide many of these features in an enhanced edition in the future; in fact, your website already alludes to it. ...

On your website purchase page you state that the software will diverge into two editions for version 16 (Standard and Professional), and that the regular $14.95 price will remain for the Standard version, and that the Professional version will be $24.95. Most importantly is that anyone that purchases version 15 at the current price will be automatically upgraded to the Professional edition.

Thank you in advance for that offer. Since the offer today of $0 would not qualify as purchasing at the current price, today's offer to purchase a Lifetime upgrades option of $9.95 is something that no one should pass up. Here's looking to finally providing a tool that can track our software needs.

Paul Martin, with respect, I'm not sure you know what this program is used for, it's not an automatic one push button and magically all your serials pop in the program that feature is intentionally not like that because you could go to work and use this program and steal all their serials or you could go to someone else's computer and get all their serials. You have to actually know the serials, and put them in manually. I know you want instant gratification but you just have to put in a little work one time and they are saved from then on.

2LogicalSolutions @Tazzie: The promotion provided you a lifetime license, i.e. it would work for life, but would not entitle you to upgrades past this version. The paid upgrade version is for future upgrades to the software.

2LogicalSolutions @Martin User: The software is designed to manage any applications license (and information relating to it), regardless of if it is installed or not. The scanning that is included is only to capture basic information about products, such as name, company, etc... so that a user does not have to. A lot of times users do not install all the software they own, for various reasons, and this allows them to track historically what they have purchased.

Tazzie I am not accusing anyone of anything; I was simply perplexed at why I seemed to be offered Paid Upgrades for something that I thought I already purchased. I went ahead and clicked on that link since it said Paid Upgrades at 100 percent discount, but it said the cart was empty when I hadn't clicked out of it yet.

@Christopher Sonon, I apologize for any confusion at trying to figure out terms. I would greatly appreciate it if you could help with the link for the Paid Upgrades. I can send you the screenshot if you need.

I am planning a system upgrade and reformat, and looking forward to using SerialSafe so I can stop using Excel and the many hours it took to keep track of my software. Constantin Florea @Tazzie, I am sorry about the confusion. The Fine Print refers only to the first purchase item. In this case, it only refers to the giveaway item and not the paid item. The paid item has lifetime upgrades.

This issue happens because we have only one Fine Print per promotion page while there may be more than one purchase item for a promotion (as in this case).
