What are people saying about Slide Effect Standard

kruzer k Come on guys.... showing a product as how it works on Youtube?
What the hell is wrong with you guys?

It looks crappy and you want me to buy it?
How about a real QUALITY demo.

BTW, all transitions suck big time, other than fade in and fade out. Anything else is childish for people with no taste.
Selling lots of transitions don't make a desirable slide show.

It's like a movie with hundreds of zoom in and out depicts a shitty home movie without purpose. I doubt any serious movie maker use those functions without a reason. Same with transitions. What is it about that sooo important?
It disturbs the slide show and takes away from the subject matter.

Well, until you have a decent demo/gallery as what your product do, I'll put off buying anything from you. Youtube presentation killed any opportunity to take you guys seriously.

If you want to put something online use www.vimeo.com with it's high quality service. Yes, they have slide shows there too, not just movies.

cheers

Alain Bocherens Hi Kruzer,

Thanks for your feedback.

Better quality demo are available at our website:
here: http://www.slide-effect.com/home
and here: http://www.slide-effect.c...esentation

Anyway, to show the presentation at its best, I recommend you download the trial version and play the sample demonstration: It will be full screen and the resolution/framerate will be higher. These web movies are only here to show a "preview" of the slideshow.

Each transitions/backgrounds/objects can be customized according to your taste.

I have to agree we need a better gallery on our website, we are currently working on it.

Adrian Williams I've tried this software and it's got so much potential. The ability to cover lots of bases, from DVD quality intros and montages to flash for web takes some doing. Great support from the writers too. The ability to export to avi gives the user the freedom of using any other conversion software you like, flash, wmv etc etc. Nice software at a fair price.

Jean-Louis Jelpy I went thru the buy procedure a dozen minutes before the end of the deal. The first screen showed the reduced price of 29$ where I filled my personal details. I chose to pay using my PayPal account. After logging into PayPal I was back into the merchant site (or its payment system) only to find out the price was reverted back to 49$, the standard, non discounted price THO there was still a few minutes left tiil the offer end.

This is the third /fourth time this month I see problems with offers here, offers that I wanted to buy!!!, tho I must admit I successfully bought 3 other programs within the same period.

However the 2 or 3 other offers that had problems with haven't been re-offered with problems corrected yet!!

Anywas I would appreciate from this product vendor to issue me a $20 price reduction coupon so I can benefit from this special offer regardless of the problems encountered.

Thanks in advance.

Alain Bocherens Hi Ralph,

This time we are doing a (huge) promotion for Slide Effect Standard edition only. Sorry, we don't offer discount for the Professional edition for this deal.

We discounted the Professional edition in the past ( http://www.bitsdujour.com...fessional/ ) so it may come back in the future.

Ralph Bressler I see a lot of potential here but I have questions.

1) How do I change the size of the text on a slide? I may want a heading but then I want a paragraph that sits next to a picture to describe it.
2) On full text slides there are three line for text. Again, how do I change the size and add more lines of text?
3) Is there a way to "batch" change objects once the slides have been created? I have the same green title on 20 slides and now I want them all to be brown. I have the same brown background and now I want green grass.

My first impression was a good one. The answers to these questions would help.
Aug 17 2012 at 8:57am Copy Link
0
Alain Bocherens Hi Ralph,

1) To change the size of a text, just use the bottom-right handle.
More info here: http://www.slide-effect.c...bjects.htm

2) You can add as many text object you want on a slide. The "3 line of text" slide is just a template. To add more text object on a slide just use the bottom icons:
More info here: http://www.slide-effect.c...bjects.htm

By the way, a standard text object can be multi-lined. Just press Return when you want to break the line.

3) To do that you can just duplicate the slide you want.
More info here: http://www.slide-effect.c...-slide.htm

But Slide Effect tries to help you automatically: When you create a new text object, it will use by default the same settings (fonts/colors/...) than the last text object you created. The same then you create a new slide: it will use the same background (by default) than the previous.

Hope it helps!

Ralph Bressler 1) I tried that but it does not make the text small enough. I want to be able to set the font property to a particular size such as 14pt. This makes the text sizes consistent from box to box and slide to slide. Also, once you have typed in a paragraph in the input box it can be very difficult to find the bottom right corner!

2) This relates back to #1 since I cannot get the text small enough using the "bottom right corner" method.

3) Please read my question AGAIN. I already have the slides created! Is there a way to make the changes to many slides at once AFTER the slides have been created?

From your answers I gather that there is no way to set the font size the way you can in most programs. I suppose I could import from Powerpoint but that isn't what I wanted to do. Also, I assume from what you said there is no way to make batch changes to the slides. These two deficiencies seem critical to me.
Aug 17 2012 at 12:38pm Copy Link
0
Alain Bocherens 1) you can set the Scale of the text numerically in the properties box to be more precise and consistent.

2) So, use the scale property.

3) Ok you cannot do these changes in batch AFTER the slides have been created.
Devsoft - Aug 17 2012 at 12:49pm Copy Link
0
Ralph Bressler When I imported from Powerpoint, Slide Effect dropped some of the first text on the page. This text was in a different text box than the text it did import. This is another problem that is a major drawback.

I really WANT to buy this program since it has so many interesting features. I think that I will have to pass on it since there are too many drawbacks that leave me feeling it is not quite complete.
Aug 17 2012 at 12:51pm Copy Link
0
Alain Bocherens That's strange.

Slide Effect does not use the same system for texts, so, sometimes, the result is not exactly the same on SE then imported from PPT, I agree.

But I am really surprised it dropped some text. I will do some tests on the beginning of next week.
Devsoft - Aug 17 2012 at 1:10pm Copy Link

Ralph Bressler The scale property? I don't see that in my trial version!
Aug 17 2012 at 1:37pm Copy Link

Anyway, you can change the scale using the bottom-right handle.
Devsoft - Aug 17 2012 at 11:41pm Copy Link
0
Ralph Bressler And I guess that points out the real problem. Many of the most useful features are only available in the Pro version which is not discounted. Exact text scaling - Pro version only. PowerPoint import - Pro version only. (And that import has errors!) I REALLY want to but this but it looks like spending $9 will buy me $9 of frustration. Can you offer a discount (even if by e-mail) on the Pro version?
Aug 18 2012 at 9:22pm Copy Link
0
Alain Bocherens No, that's not right.

You can check the exact differences between Professional and Standard here:
http://www.slide-effect.com/compare

As you can see, the main exclusive features of the Professional edition are:
- Powerpoint import/export
- Record talk-over
- Music synchronization wizard

Which are, well, for "Professional" users.

But regarding effects, transitions, backgrounds, .... everything else is available in the standard edition.

Roger Thomasson Folks, today's promotion is for the Standard edition. Perhaps we'll offer the Pro edition at some point in the future, perhaps not. That's between Alain and BitsDuJour.

You're always welcome to purchase the Pro version at full price if you aren't interested in the 77% discounted standard version.

Alain Bocherens To clarify a little bit:

I am not saying the Professional edition exclusive features are not appealing and have no value.

I just say the Standard edition is perfectly usable and it is not a "trial" version of the Professional edition.

Regarding the Professional Edition discount, today is a promotion day for the Standard edition. We will probably run a promotion on the Professional Edition later this year, but, sorry, not today.

By the way, BitsDuJour guys won't probably be very happy if I run my own "private" promotion for upgrades today.

Alain Bocherens Slide Effect uses its own file format (*.sef) to store project data.

Then you can export your presentation as:
- EXE: standalone executables that can be played on any computer.
- WMV/AVI/MOV/...: video export
- SCR: If you want to create a screensaver.

Slide Effect can open every standard image /movie/sound format.

Hope it helps.

The trial worked perfectly because there was no registration. As instructed, I uninstalled the trial before installing the full working version downloaded from the link in your email. When I click on the desktop icon I get the opening screen, then a text box? flashes very quickly, followed by a message that I have entered the wrong code.

Jane Blue This looks like a nice program. My question is, what kind of files does it produce? What I'd like to be able to do is create fancy intros to video tutorials. Can the files it creates be imported into Camtasia?

Also, what kind of licensing does it come with? If a person wanted to create slideshows as a service for others, are they allowed to sell them? I probably wouldn't do that, but I would recommend it to someone else I know who probably would do that.

Thanks.

Alain Bocherens Hi Jane,

I agree, It is a nice program. :)

***Export***
You can export your presentation as a standalone file (exe) to play it on another Computer where Slide Effect is not installed.

You can also export the presentation as a screensaver.

And finally, yes, you can export the presentation as a movie. Several movie formats are available (wmv, avi, mov,...), So you should be able to import the movie to Camtasia, for sure.

***Licence***
You can sell your own slideshow, sure, no problem with that.

***3D Video card***
Short answer is: Don't worry, your computer is able to run Slide Effect.

Detailed answer is: Slide Effect uses the same capabilities than video games to enhance the presentation. Nowadays, every computers have these capabilities (some have more capabilities, and other have less capabilities, but it is ok for Slide Effect). If your computer is newer than 2000, it should be ok.

Anyway, if you want to be sure, you can download the trial, if the computer is not up to the task, the slideshow preview will display an error.

***Pro version***
The Pro version will be maybe discounted on BitsDuJour, but nothing is planned on the short term.
