Phil Tobin Why would anyone need or want to use this software???

If you intend to send someone a pdf document and the size seems too big, then just "print" the original again with higher compression and send that. Umpteen free "printers" like Bullzip abound.

Or, if you need to send a page or pages, just save the pdf under a different name and then edit out the pages that aren't relevant. Plenty of freeware around for that.

My usual practice is either to send the pdf in its entirety or, where there are particularly important sections, then just screen capture 'em at the required magnification.

Plenty of freeware screen grab apps out there to take an image of what you want.

Randy Martin Phil, consider this:

You want to disseminate information in a paid learning environment but you don't want that information to be easily copied and used/resold. While NO SYSTEM can prevent this from happening 100%, one can make it harder by turning that PDF file (which can be highlighted) into a jpg (which cannot).

That's what I'm interested in.

Dustin Long This could be useful in deleting nonsense from a PDF file, that's what I'm interested in. I have a PDF editor program, it's paid software I obtained as part of a black Friday giveaway, but it lacks an erase tool for some reason. This can offer a workaround that's far easier than trying to erase stuff with my current PDF editor's available tools.

Anon Emous - ... or need to convert a BIG PDF to images for 'sorting' purposes (buy using keywords in JPGs) - like 4,000+ pages in a medical file or other similar file. For court.

Stephen Warkentien I use the free virtual printer with PDFill tools which "prints" to PDF and multiple graphic formats (JPEG, GIF, TIFF, etc.)

VLM I agree with Stephen W, I don't understand what this provides above and beyond that other free apps already provide? I suppose one response might be "support".

Nebulous User Dear SoftDiv - The description sounds like it *almost* fills my need, but maybe you can go all the way and I'm not recognizing it. Please tell me.

There are a lot of PDF converters out there, but none so far that I've found that do this one thing: Convert a multiple page, text-based PDF document into a multiple page, image-based PDF.

I have written a book that I give to clients sometimes. I give it to them as a PDF. But I would prefer that they didn't have the ability to easily copy/paste text from it.

So, I want a tool to turn the pages into images and then recompile the document as an identical-looking PDF.

Can Softdiv PDF to Image Converter do this?

Rick NG Hi Nebulous User,

Yes, Softdiv PDF to Image Converter can convert the text based PDF as image based PDF. This will prevent the user from copying the contents easily.

Rick

Nebulous User Rick -

That is awesome! Thank you for this reply.

Please tell me... will it do this in one pass? Or do I need to convert it to tiff (for example) first and then convert it back to PDF?

Nebulous User Rick -

I downloaded and installed the program. I added my PDF, clicked "Settings" and selected "PDF" as the output format, kept all the other settings as default*, and clicked "convert.

An error box pops us saying:
--------------------------------------------------------
Run-time errir '-214731979 (8002801d)':
Automation error
Library not registered
--------------------------------------------------------

* I also tried with a few defaults changed - such as checking "Use Source PDFs folder for output," checking "Save as single mult-page document," and unchecking the three checkboxes at the bottom, but those didn't change anything. It seems no matter what I check or uncheck I get this same error.

Nebulous User Hello Rick - I thought I'd add that I uninstalled and reinstalled just to see if something happened during installation, but the same thing happens.

I have tried on different PDF files and have also tried converting to different image types. I get the same error each time.

Ralph Bressler I am confused! How is Photopus Pro "a higher version of Softdiv PDF to Image Converter"? I don't see how to convert PDFs to images with Photopus Pro at all! With Photopus Pro you START with images and then edit them. Can someone help explain the statement in question?

Sep 28 2013 at 2:08pm Copy Link

Ralph Bressler OK, I converted a PDF to an image. What I got was one image per page with no way to easily combine them into one document again. In addition, the image quality is NOT as good as the original PDF. Am I missing something. The response of Rick Ng to Nebulous User seemed to indicate that the program had the ability to create a single PDF as the out put.

Nebulous User Ralph:

You are fortunate - I still haven't been able to get the program to quite crashing during conversion, as I mentioned above. I am hoping Rick will respond to me so that I can get this bad boy going.

But to your question, when I run the program (before it crashes), when I select PDF for the output format, a checkbox appears below that which says " "Save as single mult-page document." This is unchecked by default. I am assuming that checking it will create a single document rather than multiple documents.

As for quality, I also see a slider that allows you to set Quality. By default it is set to 75%.

Please post back here - I would like to know if this software does a decent job if Rick can help me get it working.

BTW, I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium x64.

Thanks for the help. It seems to work well for me. Your suggestions worked. I am using Windows 7.

Now, what about the question about Photopus pro?

Sep 28 2013 at 4:55pm Copy Link

Stephen Kreyling I looked at the full upgrade and the reason I did not buy Photopus pro is that the logo in the watermarking, you can not adjust via pixels, I need more control over the placement of the logo and not just a default. If its improved with more control I would consider a purchase of the full product.

Rick NG Hi Ralph,

Photopus Pro and Softdiv PDF to Image Converter both support PDF to image conversion. Besides PDF, Photopus Pro allows you to import other image formats like BMP, PNG, TGA, TIFF, PSD and etc. With Photopus Pro, you can also apply special editing effects and filters to the output.

Ralph Bressler Rick,

The fact that Photopus Pro handles PDFs would be clearer if the first screen didn't say ADD PHOTOS. I think your interface hides some things from the user.

Robert Crombie Regarding your program
Does your program have a command line interface ?
Such an interface allows you to call (execute) the program, whilst passing instructions such as -
Convert all PDFs in folder C:\PDFs\
Into JPGs
Placing the JPGs into folder C:\JPGs\
It would be nice if it could delete each PDF after it is converted to JPG

Similar functionality could also be provided WITHOUT using the command line.
That would entail the program having some settings where, we tell it where the PDFs folder is (to watch), and where the output JPGs folder is, and the program can be told to run minimized, and keep watching the PDFs folder.
Meaning every time the program sees PDFs (in the PDFs folder), it converts them into JPGs (into the JPGs folder) automatically.
It would delete the PDFs after it has converted them.
Thanks,
Rob
