disenchanted I've been using this program for a few years, after our employer stopped offering the HUPS program from MS for a year or two.
I used Corel office on some of my PCs and this program on the others.

Does a decent job in working with with MS files.

Once I got on their mailing list, the company did offer good deals and/or updates from time to time.

They even have an office pkg for linux.
Good to see them and their office pkg being offered here on BDJ.

Tom User Excellent! It works great for collaborating on MS Office documents - preserves formatting and everything else without a problem. It's feature-packed, easy to use, fast and reliable. Highly recommended!

Nick Kobe I have purchased 3 of the Softfmaker Office Professional 2012 and the previous version of the software. It use to be that you could purchase the major upgrade at a discount. However, a new user can buy it here for $44.97 and at their website the upgrade is $49.95. That price difference certainly disrespects 2012 users. Yes, I know that I can purchase the software here at $44.95. However, I'm not a new user. Consequently, this morning I uninstalled Office Professional and installed OpenOffice.

BearPup Like other commentators, I have used SoftMaker Office since 2012 with excellent results. I subsequently became a Beta Tester for the 2016 version offered here - and I was very pleased with how well SoftMaker adopted the comments and recommendations of their Beta Testers; most of which appeared in the 2016 final version.

As a Beta Tester my principal focus was on compatibility with older applications and customization of the GUI. My results: every application I tested SMO 2016 passed without a single crash or incompatible application. As to the GUI, SMO continues its option of using large icons on its toolbars, making the Suite readable and accessible to those with poor vision / visual impairments.

SMO 2016 is my one and only Office Suite, and I've never regretted that decision / choice.

Nick Kobe I've have also had good results with the 2012 and the previous professional version. However, I have also had good results with other office suits as well. My disdain is with the 2016 upgrade that is even more expensive then the version offered at BitsDuJour. In addition, the software is not that much better then the free OpenOffice version. For these two reasons I uninstalled the 2012 version and haven't purchased the 2016 version. I expect more out of the software when I'm paying for it. If a software developer isn't concerned about its existing customers and doesn't offer a product that is not that much better then OpenOffice why buy it?

Wim User @Nick: IMHO SoftMaker Office 2016 ist much better than all other Microsoft Office alternatives, especially the outdated OpenOffice.

TextMaker, PlanMaker and Presentations preserve formatting, content and layout of Word, Excel and PowerPoint files faithfully, even those with encryptions. Writer, Calc and Impress screw up Microsoft Office files regularly.

In comparison, SoftMaker Office 2016 offers a more user-friendly interface, higher speed, better stability and many additional professional features, plus free technical support by the developer.

In short: SoftMaker Office 2016 is a couple of steps ahead.

Nick Kobe I've used both for an extended period of time. I have had no problems with compatibility with OpenOffice nor with SoftMaker Office. What happens in the programming or in the age of the software doesn't make any difference. I spent my working years in marketing. The changes on many software products is cosmetic. For instance you write highly about ease of use. However, if you have used office software, in particular, MS Office you can use about any other office software without a steep learning curve. To pay the asking price for Softmaker Office 2016, particularly for an upgrade, is to pay a relative "lot" for an existing software program with changes that are generally cosmetic or insignificant when compared to a previous version which works fine in the MS 10 version.
