What are people saying about Southside Solutions Word of the Day 3

James Evans OK, it's 366 words for free and software is good for a year so it doesn't get much better than that. Thanks sincerely for the offer.

But, I don't understand. Merriam-Webster.com and many other free dictionary/thesaurus/writing websites provide (free) Word of the Day tabs, with an unlimited number of words and no time limit. Additionally, it takes more than an extra 366 words in one's vocabulary to boost their way up the corporate ladder, or to self actualize. I don't understand the need to install software to acquire what is readily and easily available without time or word limitations!? For sure, I don't understand what would go into a decision to pay $24.99 for this software.

Eschew Obfuscation.

Christopher Kennedy You answered your own question, my good sir. Cloud- based resources require Internet connectivity. Should those without an always-on connection have to dialup just to learn a word a day? Southside Solutions Word of the Day 3 allows you to learn at your own pace as well. You can also take multiple-choice quizzes in our included vocabulary trivia game, QuickQuiz. This incredible deal is an amazingly simple solution to a common problem...for free!

ano nym Well then, if I do not have to have an always on Internet connection, then I supposedly get a database containing 366 words stored on my computer. But who judges what words are chosen? And I maybe know some of this group already, some I won't even want to know (medical or judical terms) or are to complicated, others are maybe far too easy, and for foreign language learners or non native English speaking people there is no change to change the language or maybe understand the description at all. So I will need Internet connection again to recheck if I am right ... and what, if my own pace is just one word every two days ...
The question is if all this is worth neary $25?!?
But thanks for the deal, so I can at leat test it and keep my vocabulary updated!

Jim Stone So the deal's only been up for two hours and it's already disabled due to an unspecified "problem".

Some more precise description of the issue would be appreciated.

Silver Dragon Sys Sounds like a very interesting program, too bad the giveaway died before it really began. Hopefully the problem will be fixed soon as I would like to take a gander at this one.

Arthur Dent This really needs work. The installer is a joke. It's bad even for a free program.
I have bits of install all over the place from 4 efforts to install it.
I'm sure it will uninstall easier. It is the most pointless thing I've come across. The idea sounded appealing but poorly executed.
Thanks but no thanks.

Stephen Kunkel Same problem.. On Vista, the installer defaults to
C:\Program Files\"C:\Southside Solutions\Southside Solutions Word of the Day Standard Windows Bundle 3.0"
No matter what I do (direct it to Prog Files or straight to C Drive) it won't install. Says it can't find the directory.

EDIT: I guess it was the unpacker utility that was messing up.... I found that the MSI (installer) was in Program Files/Sounthside Solutions. I launched that (after browsing to it), and it did install the application correctly.

Stephen Kunkel No worries Christopher. It's a pretty cool app, thanks for offering it today at 100% off. Hopefully you'll have some add-on vocabulary packs at a reasonable price in the future. Also, it would be nice if that quiz were to determine my vocabulary level and offer more difficult words, based on my performance; or at least skip the words I already know.... Just an idea. :)

EDIT: I just installed it on Win 7. Instead of choosing "download file" I chose "open file." From there, I was able to launch the MSI files for the Word of the Day app and the Quick Quiz app. I'm not sure what the "Gadget" file is, but I didn't do anything with it.

Seems to work fine.

Matt SPAM

If you like spam, just download and install 'Word of the Day'.

The spam email has no 'unsubscribe' link and there is no way to opt out of it on their web site.

I requested to be removed, but they won't reply to my request and continue to send me useless email.

Shameful!
