chris User Does the purchase of the current version allow the software to be used for lifetime. Obviously no free upgrade after 12 months without additional payment but software purchased will keep running after 12 months? .Please clarify that software can continue to be used without entering into a subscription scheme?

Dunking I am interested in this but I am thinking about how to retrieve the data if something should happen to the app, and/or if I want to create a standalone client. My understanding is that the database is MS Access, but when I try to open a sample database Access requires a password. I am a bit perturbed that my data is locked up like this (I haven't specified any kind of encryption) so is this password available to the end user or is it there just to lock us into your app?

Rohs I was wondering if there was any ways to automatically import/ingest data. For instance there is a barcode scanner. Is it possible to pull inventory information in automatically from the barcode scanner? Or is it possible to have it import from emails.

SpeedBase Custom Database Creator @Dunking: SpeedBase periodically creates snapshot backups on the local drive. You may add cloud backup on top of it for full protection. It is customary for any database system to protect the database by password or other means for data safety reasons. In a disaster scenario, you will still be able to open a backup copy of your database as long as you use the right version of SpeedBase and operating system and then export data in case necessary. If you can figure out a likely scenario where all data is permanently lost while both backup options are enabled, let me know. I'm willing to think about it.

Dunking Any backup would require speedbase to be able to access the data. I am thinking of a previous application I used - a popular cookery database - which became useless because the developer just gave up. Although I had a lifetime license and it still worked, some small change made it require reactivation and it couldn't manage that, so stopped accessing the data. As a result I use an open source cookery app which isn't as good and hasn't been supported for some time, but the data is safe and I don't need the app to get to it.

So that's one aspect. I am wary of spending a lot of time and effort creating something to which I may be locked out. If I had the password to the data (which is mine, after all) then I could use an alternative application if necessary. The chances are I might never do so, but then we hope never to restore from backup in anger.

Sputnik I would be interested to try your software, but when I click on "GET THIS DEAL", I am driven to a page where I can read this about your annual support/upgrade subscription :

I know for sure right now that I would not be interested in this annual support/upgrade subscription and I fear that I will not be able to find easily the link to unsubscribe that you say you will put in your email, so would you please indicate to me right now, here on BitsDuJour, the link that will help me to cancel this automatic subscription ?

Dunking @Sputnik - I went through this today and can confirm that you do indeed get a link to cancel the subscription, and that it does indeed cancel it. However, it's pointless posting the link because it is specific to the buyer - it leads to the subscription account at the payment processor. I guess that also implies that the link doesn't exist until you've actually paid up and notionally subscribed...

Compared to the hoops some regular Bits vendors make purchasers jump through just to get access to the software they've bought, the Speedbase subscription cancellation process is painless in my opinion. Don't let it hold you back :)

I was also aware that the unsuscribe link would probably be linked to each specific buyer and that such a link couldn't be given before a buy.

SpeedBase Custom Database Creator @Rohs The barcode scanning function of SpeedBase allows you to instantly find and retrieve the corresponding data from the database. Automatic / scheduled data import via scripts is planned for future versions.

@Dunking SpeedBase does not utilize online activation and does not need internet connection at all. Export functionality is also not restricted with the license. You may export all of your data even in trial mode without entering a license key.
