Software Guy This is a great deal on very good, easy to use software. I use the professional version and like it. This software can be installed on a USB drive, which is very convenient. This is a great opportunity to try it out for free. The discounts on upgrades make it worthwhile to step up.
What is the difference between standard and free? go here
http://www.dextronet.com/...d=55292310

Does the standard/pro make a notes software unnecessary? If your notes are calendar related ot you don't have too many, then maybe yes. But if you keep lots of notes (student, researcher, or just keep lots of notes) then IMHO the separate notes is still necessary.

BUT, and I hate to say anything bad about such great software - and all of their software is top notch - their pricing has gone awry. here is the link to the price page - http://www.dextronet.com/...to-do-list - and $199 is too much for a 1 user 3 pc license, especially when other excellent organizers offer 3 or 5 pc license for as little as $29.95 (go to the all deals page and search for organizers or PIMs).

Here is their product pricing
http://www.dextronet.com/buy
and I really like daily to do, fastpaste and treenotes BUT think that they are just priced too high. Daily todo should be under $10. Fastpaste pro should be under $25, maybe even under $20. And treenotes is $45 where an excellent competitior GemX Texnotes is 19.95 - and while you are there check out their GemX Harmony PIM.
So, bottom line, Dextronet software is superior and this standard version offered today is a great deal. But they just must lower those prices and allow the users to choose either a user license with multi installs or multiuser license with per computer installs. Just my two cents worth...
Anyway, pick up a copy of this deal and give it a try. You will like it - it is probably the best of class.

Dextronet Silat: Upgrading to higher edition is always for just the price difference.

Many of our customers use both Swift To-Do List and Tree Notes, but Swift To-Do List is admittedly FAR more popular. If you have a lot of notes, then it's beneficial to have both. I use both too. Tree Notes has a different global hotkey and it's own tree, etc. It's handy for me, but YMMV.

Software Guy: Thanks for your support!

Version 8 is not likely coming any time soon, it took us 1.5 years to get from 7.0 to 7.56 and all these were free upgrades. In any case, upgrading from 7 to 8 will be deeply discounted.

Robert S I thought that when we registered an application on a portable drive that it could be used on different machines, and not only on one. I was experimenting by plugging my portable drive in my work machine after registering on my personal machine and it acted as if it were on a 30 day trial. Do I have to register on every machine when using a portable drive? I was refering the quote from above in the application description.

"Best of all, Swift To-Do List 7 Standard is small enough to fit onto a thumb drive, so you can take it with you on the road for use on any computer!"
Mar 26 2012 at 2:01pm Copy Link
0
Dextronet Robert: No, you don't need to register on each computer when running from a USB drive. Your deployed copy of Swift To-Do List is probably not registered at all though, so that's why it is acting as a 30-day trial. You need to enter your license code into it.

Steven Avery Hi,

I have the professional from a previous Bits. Its a good program, in some ways the best of the ToDo list programs.

(You should allow the second user on a Windows system to open the program without the first user closing, when you "switch users". This is the only program that gives me this locking problem. I don't mind so much for backup, because a good software will have VSS, but for simple use I think you should not have that lock.)

Suggestion: a web forum, or at the least an email forum from Yahoogroups, Googlegropus, etc., very easy to moderate and handle. Help the sharing of ideas of use, enhancement suggestions, etc.

======================

Anyway, this new 3-tier nonsense "Ultimate" .. a spell-checker, more icons ! etc. will alienate what was a loyal user base. Put those moderate enhancements, and a few more, in version 8 and make it a $20-$25 upgrade charge to the Pro Version. We are not talking about a new network-server or enterprise edition, but simply regular enhancements to a one-trick ToDo program (no slight intended, but an attempt at rationality). You need recurring $ ? A new release every 18 months or so, with a bunch of new enhancements. Then we will talk up your program to our friends. Once burned, twice shy.

We are laughing at Donationcoder about this, how a note program will next be, by a poster named Berry :

"NoteFrog Professional Platinum Ultimate Universe Galaxy Lifetime Forever introductory offer only $399".

A little reductio ad adsurdum, above the current absurdity.

Dextronet, with one very good solid flagship program, is making a bit of a mockery of their pricing setup for their user base. They should change the model. The temporary void of similar solid products (like the older Priorganizer and Quick ToDo, neither of which is particularly active right now) will surely be filled by a new compary, and the user base will abandon Dextronet.

Just a friendly point of warning.

======================

Incidentally, I do not want to discourage anybody who needs a good ToDo from taking advantage of this nice special (and consider the Pro upgrade after some use). As mentioned, the program is well-designed, pleasant and sensible. It is more easy to use for general free-hand concept-ToDo than ToDoList by Abstract Spoon (a bit techie, with a programmer's project mentality out of the box) or Task Coach. Swift is a friendlier program, with lots of nice features, so it is worth at least a try.

A tab structure on top would be a good enhancement, like a Pan-Ultimate plus.

======================

Bmtmicro seems to be down, although I have not double checked with a 3rd party check.

daniel paner Definitely look at the small print as there are licensing and functional limitations that you don't find in other similar programs. Especially when you look at the limitations that are placed on how many computers you can use this from. I don't think it is a big limitation with this version, but is for the others. Price is also higher than competing products.

That said, it's a strong, well-polished work/task manager with common-sense and advanced capabilities. I've been using Ultimate for about three months and still find myself getting value from it. The lack of a dedicated android app is missed. I don't doubt it will arrive at some time, and I don't doubt there's going to be an added fee to use it.

Definitely grab this 'bits' version today and give it a try.

Apr 22 2013 at 6:34am Copy Link
0
Dextronet G Hudak: That option is actually "Automatic check for updates". Updates are never installed automatically - but if you don't disable the option, the program might inform you about a new version, and you would download it, and the license you obtain today on BDJ wouldn't work anymore.

YES, the program has an Assigned To field, so you can assign tasks to people. However, the Assigned To field is only in Professional and Ultimate.

The 1-user-3-PC-Pack is not part of this promotion, but you can contact us at supportdextronet.com to get a deal on it too during the promo.

Activation is just a matter of entering in your license code. You don't need Internet connection.

It is NOT a positive shopping experience since I have a lot I need to get organized for work now. While most digital products I buy online is instant access when using paypal you stand out from the crowd.

I called the payment processor company and they put me on hold and they will answer soon. Then instead they asked me to leave phone number, email etc so they could get back to me within 1 biz day. And I a m calling from Europe. Not smooth...

Elizabeth Bright Having been making through the conversation and clarifications or upgrade eligibility on bought vs free and options for getting Ultimate, I wanted to explain it as far as I can see in hopes it helps others.

PLEASE know, I do not have any connection with either company here. Just a BDJ follower who's trying to help others feel sure of what they are getting/buying. If I have any of this information wrong, PLEASE correct me and my apologies for creating any confusion, if so.
These are all subtotals as far as the Shopping Cart pages. I don't know if more costs may get incurred for individuals (taxes?), probably not, but just being clear.

A) If we obtain the free Home version, we will have a great free tool, but no access to upgrades.

B) If we buy a license of the Pro version through this BDJ deal, we will be allowed to accessed upgrades and it is $44.97. The upgrade calculator then outlines to upgrade from a single license of Pro to the 1for3 ULTIMATE licensing (for those of us who have multiple computers and use Outlook) is $110.
The total cost for BDJ customers then for a 1user-3PCs Ultimate Edition is $154.97.

To buy the same licensing from the website directly or any other day, is $199.95, so we are getting a discount even on this product.

C) Buying 2 licenses of Pro does not actually reduce the cost of upgrading to Ultimate, either for just two licenses or to the 1user-3PC option for a SINGLE user. Obviously if you have multiple users to licenses, then you need to follow that, but remember it will still be a discount in the end today for BDJ per purchase.

I hope this helps clarify questions for others like me who really want the Ultimate version, but wasn't sure how all these paths would fit together for the best approach.
Thank you!

Bernhard @Elizabeth

My calculation would be: Get the free Home (worth $44.95). Upgrade to Ultimate (1 User) for the difference $105 ($149.95 - $44.95).

Total Ultimate 8: $105.

For a new user this could be worth consideration (albeit very, very expensive).

An old user with Ultimate 7 license would in fact have to pay $119.95 (a 20% discount) for an upgrade to Ultimate 8. Certainly a no-go.

Daniel Gaudet Will you offer a 50% discount on ultimate like Professional?

How about a 60% on the 1 user 3 PC Ultimate?

Also, what's the policy to transfer a license in the future to another PC?

Thanks!
Apr 23 2013 at 8:10am Copy Link
0
Elizabeth Bright @Bernhard Yes, you are right. A single user upgrade to a single user is definitely cheaper than the scenario I outlined.
I didn't mean to imply I was laying out the pricing that would fit everyone's needs and scenarios. This particular one had just been mentioned or asked about by more than one other person already in the conversation, so I was trying to help clarify that information.

I guess I should have added another disclaimer of my own calculations that I am one of those who has a Home PC, Work PC and a laptop, so while I may not choose to install on all devices, I would install on at least two of them, and I am a new user, so the 1User-3PC option was the most appropriate for me (and apparently I wasn't alone in this).

Personally, I tend to assume obtaining upgrades under deal sites will be trickier, if it's even allowed, so I hadn't been considering that scenario, nor would I have enough information to even try. (Again, I am *not* associated with BDJ or Dextronet, just a fellow deal hunter).

Other people in the conversation history had mentioned looking for a similar set up, and there had already been a few back and forth messages, so that's what I was trying to clear up. I hope I was able to be helpful to someone at least. Thank you!

Dextronet Daniel: You can transfer your license to other computer any time you need, as many times as you need. It's not a problem.

You can email us at supportdextronet.com if you want something else other than Home or Pro. Or, as Elizabeth said, you can get the free Home, then upgrade it for the price difference.

Jason Roberts Some thoughts from a very satisfied STDL 8 Ultimate user...

I've been using the Ultimate version for just over a year now and I'm definitely glad I made the investment! I felt it was a bit pricey back then, but since then it has greatly improved my life and I consider the price worth every penny. I can't put a price on the peace of mind it has brought me.

I manage both my business and my personal life with it. The software is very easy to customize, and over time I've tweaked the settings to work perfectly for my needs. I dump EVERYTHING I need to do into it, organized by various lists in the tree hierarchy, and then use filters to show me just the tasks I need to focus on today and in the near future (two weeks out). I also have a few recurring reminders for things that I typically don't remember to do.

Jiri also has a wonderful book that I highly recommend which provides a very simple and effective method to using STDL. He has also been VERY responsive to bugs, suggestions and questions that I've emailed him over the past year. I have had nothing but a very positive experience from using STDL and the support from Dextronet.

SKY Compared to other editions, the Home version looks just like a demo of a "potentially" good program. Only Basic? What is in basic? Other versions have hundreds of necessary functions ANY task program ought to have to being with. Why so stingy with the Home version? Why couldn't a few more functions be added (even if less capable than higher versions, like "only 2 subtasks per item, compared to unlimited in...", etc.)? Then the Home users, having had experience with other functions and been able to assess their benefits first hand, could be more inclined for an upgrade, rather than just reading and dreaming about them. I think it would a more marketing savvy way to "lure" clients to the rather expensive editions. See for yourselves: http://www.dextronet.com/...e/editions

Quill Pen Is it just me or do others find the trend toward icon-based navigation overwhelmingly frustrating? It's akin to learning kanji symbols only on screen glyphs aren't universal but instead often peculiar to each version or "upgrade" of each app.
Thirty icons here, 200 there, 25 on this window and 140 on that one and suddenly your brain's exhausted from the pregnant pauses as it spends more time translating glyphs peculiar to each particular software program or app and trying to remember button and menu placement and whether red/green/blue square/round/triangular means ON or Off with the myriad of non-standard GUIs than actually navigating and accessing files. Throw in the Windows ribbons and I want to scream "STOP.IT!"
Not ranting about this program, just venting, although I've no time to try to learn 140 icons for text-based To Do notes.
Please return to your regularly scheduled podcast... if you can find the ON button. :))

H. H. Warning for all existing swift todo list users having installed version <9! I´m exisitng customer of swift todo list ultimate 8 and just wanted to try the homeversion 9 - swift todolist overwrote my existing ultimate 8 version without any warning and by this turned version 8 ultimate to version 9i home. The worst thing is, that I now can not access my previous existing database. I tried to reinstall version 8 ultimate, but now swift todolist will force me to buy the upgrade to version 9 since it refuses to open my previous created database (since it tells that the database was created in a higher version (althoug I nothing had changed in version 9, only version 9 home had taken my 8 ultimate database). @developer please tell what to do to get the database of ultimate 8 working again H.H.

Matt Hello,

Realizing your end goal is for us to purchase your very costly 'Ultimate' version...

To-Do List:
1. re-work home budget
2. pick up second job
3. buy Swift To-Do List Ultimate
4. start saving for version 10

Sorry, I couldn't resist :)

Does your 'Professional' version have many of the same 'teasers' included that your 'Home (Demo)' version has? For example, links and buttons that don't actually work according to their label, but just point to an upgrade.

Also, have you considered deleting the green 'Upgrade' reminder arrow (top-right), since there already is an upgrade button included in the 'Help' menu?

Thank you.

D Rogers I have been using Swift to do Professional 8, for two years now. It is a wonderful program that you can customize. I have it doing exactly what I want.

That being said, I still think it is overpriced and is marketed in a way that makes me feel uncomfortable,, with the features and three levels of software. Just sayin.

A. Goyal Developer should follow the hotmail model of giving software for free to create a good enough base of people who will then be willing to pay for reasonably priced upgrades in future because they like the software and see the value in paying. More people using it = less cost of software, we both win. Just my 2 cents. The Home version is very basic with no features per their comparison matrix. ToodleDo offers so much more for free, including syncing between devices, all for free.

Ennovy Don't criticize this fine software, it's free today! The home version has a lot of features and for a home user like me that's enough.
Every year mister Novotny gives the home version for free so I can upgrade.
And it's portable too!

If you don't like the software: nobody forces you to use it!

jtsoukaris The version offered here is buggy, at least under windows 8.1 update 1, 32 bit. I cannot create a database. When I click on the "New Database ..." button a new window (for the user to select where to save the database obviously) half opens and then the program freezes.

Totally useless for me.

Dextronet jtsoukaris, the version offered hear is the same version as offered everywhere else. As no one else reported this issue it will have to be specific to your system. You can either contact our support, or if I was to take a wild guess I would say that this can be caused by Windows Defender or another aggressive security software. Try disabling it and test if you'll be able to create a database then.

Roberto Hello. I'm an user of Swift To-Do (I have a bunch of your products). I updated a couple of times in the past, and upgraded to the Ultimate version 8.

I stayed with versión 8, and now I see v.9 is suscription based.

For a "solo player" like me, I think the Personal versión is the way to go? I dont know if this is the equivalent upgrade from v.8 Ultimate.

What will be the renewal price after 12 months? The standard price now discounted on your website is 16,30$ (+tax). That would be 236$ per year.

There are some referals about Professional and Ultimate versions on the Bits description, and maybe those are "deprecated" already.

Dextronet Hi Roberto, yes, if you like to roll solo and don't need to collaborate with a team of other users, the Personal plan is all you need.

All subscription plans allow you to install the Ultimate edition on an unlimited number of devices. The Home and Professional editions are no longer available for new customers (except for this Home giveaway).

If you purchase the Personal subscription plan during this promotion and stick with the renewal after the first year, you'll be charged the same discounted price even in the following years.

If you decide not to re-new your subscription, you can keep using STDL Ultimate on all the devices you installed it on, you'll just lose the Secure Sync features without an active subscription.

Noggin The Nog What a mess. It is very hard to see what the differences in functionality are between the different versions, and who wants to get sucked into subscribing annually - the up front equivalent of the subscription is a very large sum indeed. This looks like an object lesson in how to spoil a good product by trying to get ever more cash out of it.

Barnet Jim, you reply to TESS273 that if personal is purchased here for $49.50 and continue subscription, the per year subscription will stay @ $49.50. Fine print says

"Upgrades to future versions of the software will require additional payment. Installing a new version may overwrite the existing version and invalidate your license key."

Please clarify

John Hood Folks. In case you haven't noticed over the past year. The number of software offerings with an annual subscription is ever increasing. Protect yourselves. Read the fine print. Especially the bold print up front here that dutifully lays out the deal for us without you being surprised or having to hunt all over the author's website. I and others have asked for this many times and kudos to BitsDuJour for listening to us.

Only thing generally missing now is the exact version number being offered here. I have purchased many pieces of software here. In a few cases I double bought. No big deal but I would obviously rather not. It is a waste of time to keep asking what version is offered and a waste of space in these posts. BitsduJour is still itself the best deal around.

Dextronet Hi Gavin, both the plans offered here are yearly, we also have a one-time subscription for a single year. Unless you cancel your subscription, you don't need to worry about that. Or you can contact the support with your individual case and payment method.

Hi Barnet, an active subscription also covers any possible major upgrades. The additional payment for example means a version 8 license wouldn't work in version 9 without an upgrade.

And yes, all the subscriptions allow you to install the Ultimate edition on an unlimited number of devices.

Dextronet John,

all the subscriptions allow you to install the latest version of Swift To-Do List Ultimate (version 9), also you get all the minor and major updates for free (as long as the subscription is active). So if we decide to release a major upgrade to version 10, it's covered by an active subscription. If you decide not to re-new the subscription after the first year, you'll be able to use your currently installed version of Swift To-Do List.
Dextronet - Dec 15 2015 at 6:43am Copy Link

Dextronet Noggin, as the Personal subscription allows you to install the highest (Ultimate) edition on an unlimited number of devices, plus it allows you to use the Secure Sync features and makes you eligible for free major upgrades, I believe it's actually a much better deal than our previous model.

The price of the Swift To-Do List Ultimate 1-User-3-PC Pack was $199.95. You're getting more than that for $49.50 here. Even if you decide not to renew the subscription after the first year.

The Mini subscription plan offers all that for up to 5 users (who can collaborate using the cloud solution). That's the only difference between the Personal and Mini plans.

"If you decide not to re-new the subscription after the first year, you'll be able to use your currently installed version of Swift To-Do List."

Bill Sech The latest version is version 10. This version 9 would be an older version. I've tested this program at both versions 9 and 10. Everything was good except for the fact that on recurring tasks the dates on a lot of the tasks are always resetting themselves to something other than what I had set them for. It was a daily task in and of itself to constantly have to reset the dates of a certain number of recurring tasks. Often I would have to go look for them if I ran the program with a "show only the today tasks" filter. It was a real pain in the rump. The preference settings that can be adjusted did nothing to change it. The rest of the program worked great however because of that glitch I avoid relying on this one.

Dextronet Daniel, absolutely, the free version can be enough for most users. The main reason why STDL 10 is subscription based is the secure cloud sync solution that allows you to synchronize your database across multiple computers, gives you mobile (iOS/Android/web) access, and also allows you to collaborate with others.

Please note that if you don't renew your STDL 10 subscription after the first year you still get the lifetime version 10 license, you just won't get new major updates and will lose the secure cloud sync functionality.

The Ultimate version, that you say no longer exists, is now the 'personal', correct?
My old Ultimate version (version 9) allows 3 computers.
And in the case of 'personal' (3 computers), if I upgrade to version 10?
How much will I spend to upgrade to the 'personal' version?
Thank you again.

Dextronet There were 3 editions for STDL 9 - Home, Professional and Ultimate.

STDL 10 doesn't have editions anymore, so everyone with a STDL 10 license has all features.

To get STDL 10 you need a subscription. The Personal plan is for 1 user, the Mini plan is for 5 users, and so on. All plans allow you to install STDL 10 on an unlimited number of computers.

As you have originally purchased STDL 9 in January 2014, this promotion ($49.95) actually gives you a better price than upgrading directly ($79).

Bill Sech I'm sorry Jiri however I have contacted the support dept. The explained the options to me and I did test with altering the different options to affect the glitch. No adjustments to the options did stop the glitch from happening and so finally I gave up. It affects approximately 15 to 20% of the recurring tasks. In the long run that is too annoying for me to continue to use. I can easily see however if somebody gets this deal that they may well be able to put up with that since the cost is great. They may not have the same glitch at all.Maybe it would work great on other machines.Since I also tested other programs with to-do list features and found that I do not have the same problem with them that going with something else was for me. Other than that one glitch Swift to do list was a very impressive program for me to use and the feature list made the rest of it very attractive. Well done on the rest of it!
