This looks like useful software, and personally beneficial. However, it would be much more gracious to allow the user to use the version purchased indefinitely.

The reason for not allowing perpetual use is unknown, but my thinking is, once you own this type of software there is little reason to keep upgrading unless there is a compelling reason to do so.

Rick User It is for 3 years subscription but do you know that cloud versions for other vocabulary programs are only good for 1 year subscription. I think we are giving the most generous subscription time for 3 years. The reason for a software subscription is not "unknown". It is now very common because software companies keep on upgrading their program with new robust features. Unlike with perpetual programs before, what you get today is what you see after 5 years. It doesn't get any new updates. And that is true with our products too. We constantly improve our program by giving you software updates. Currently we have the latest WORD EXPLORER. In the next few months there will be a new round of exciting upgrades update for free.
With Ultimate Vocabulary your get an access for 5 users where you can share it with your family members and friends good for three years.You can use it on multiple computers at the same time. _*_ @Rick User, thanks for writing back and communicating here on Bits.
For me personally, I do not use any form of cloud services. I rather keep my information on my local hard drive. Also, while three years is much better than a one year service the issue of no perpetual use remains.

The fact remains, once a user stops paying, the software stops working.

That is the sticking point for me at least. I rather not invest in a piece of software that I am then beholden to pay forever if I want continued use. I rather pay for a version and then pay for future upgrades knowing I can always install the last version I paid to use.

Mister User TO: Program author,

I am assuming from what I have read above, that what you are selling is NOT an app in the traditional sense, but rather access to info on your server. Thus, to use, one must have an active internet connection to access your data.

The obvious reason for this, is so you can milking your customers for more money!

I will NEVER part with my money to participate in a scheme such as this.

Instead, why not sell an app that has all the data LOCALLY, on one's own hard drive and offer free updates for one year.

After the first year, if one wants to partake in "a new round of exciting upgrades", then they will purchase the upgrade to have access to the new info, IF they believe it to be a worthwhile benefit to them.

HOWEVER, THEY KEEP A FUNCTIONING APP WITH THE 'OLD DATA' THEY HAVE PAID FOR!! --

Robin User I'm not sure whether I understand the purpose of this product. For me it looks like a dictionary application including collocations, thesaurus etc. that also offers some vocabulary exercises. I already have a premium offline product like this (LDOCE5). So what's different here? Maybe this is going to be more interesting when the mobile apps are released, ohterwise the cloud feature makes not much sense.

Thank you for your prompt reply to my comment.

However, I believe your response is somewhat disingenuous.

1. A user pays $67.00 (everyday price)

2. A period of time passes, (in this case 3 years)

3. User no longer has access to info he paid for. (Comparable to an app one purchases that STOPS WORKING, if he chooses not to pay for an upgrade).

Note: a dictionary purchased 3 years ago will still be 99.999% relevant today.
If I purchased a paper dictionary at Barnes and Noble and 3 years later it turned into a pile of dust, I would be back at the store with a complaint. As would any reasonable person.

Another example: Let's say someone subscribes to a magazine for 3 years and then decides not to pay for another year. He still has his 36 copies of the magazine he paid for---they don't turn into a pile of dust!

It's companies like yours that are trying their best to change the mindset of people---trying to convince us that this scheme is OK. It's not OK. As a matter of principle, people need to resist---before this becomes the new norm.

Mary Wilson I am a little confused. It is a three year subscription to the information. Is this for a PC program or app for my iPad? I found the video interesting, but not very helpful as it showed the 2012 version of this program and the screen shots are not the same as the video. In one screen shot I see something about printed worksheet but can not see any example of this.
