V - The File Viewer is a fast file management application that plays well with large files. With V installed, you have access to a supertool that acts as a file browser, directory browser, file locator, and unzipping app all at once.
V has native support for viewing HEX files as well as EBCDIC files. When it comes to searching through files, you have access to a stack of filtering criteria as well as GREP functionality for specific text queries. The ZIP support that comes with V lets you view and print archived files without the need for extraction, but also allows you to fully extract ZIP files as needed. Extensive print options make for a coder's paradise, including support for line numbers, text wrap, custom headers/footers, and side-by-side landscape (2UP) printouts.
For those who prefer to work in DOS Boxes, V is fast and convenient - just type 'V Filename' and the file appears immediately. There's no need to switch to Explorer and certainly no need to bring up a File Open Dialog Box!
As far as interfaces go, V has them all beat, hands down. You can overlay rulers, grids, and line numbers for detailed code analysis. Use the app's dual pane support to view directories side-by-side, or display graphics, HTML, and PDF files as thumbnail images with EXIF information flyovers. For the mouse-averse among you, V comes chock full of command line functionality, keyboard shortcuts, and single right-click functions that will let you get your work done faster than ever before!

- Review what others have to say...
- “I have a 5 gig sql dump that I've been trying to edit, and nothing was cutting the mustard. Programs made lofty claims and then choked on my humble little laptop, but whoah boy, that little app of yours did the trick precisely as advertised.
I'll buy it if I find this becoming a habit, but in the meantime I just wanted to say, nice work!”
- “No problems or suggestions in this email, I just want to compliment you with this fine program. As far as I am concerned, this is the one and only must-have program, I really can't do without. I hardly used the Windows Explorer the last few years.
I work a lot with large (Mb of Gb) files, do search actions and it always works fast and accurate. I can go quickly to any location with Favourites and use the File Finder with regex to extract specific lines from these huge files.
The only trouble I have is keeping up with all the (new) options. Every now and then I discover something new to me. ;-)”
- “I have been using V for years (can't remember how many) and, as I am grateful to you every working day of my life, I thought the right thing to do would be to tell you.
I'm an old-fashioned programmer and use V all the time in my work and to get people out of trouble (eg, seeing a UNIX ASCII file as opposed to a DOS file).
There is no other product out there that is as comprehensive, easy to use and affordable as yours and I am eternally grateful to you for making my life easier.”
- “I use V many times a day, and am always pleased at how natural it is to use, how efficiently it is coded, and how it manages to be feature-rich without being bloated. I hope writing and publishing it has been rewarding for you.”
- “PERFECT!
You have no idea the pain and suffering you have just brushed away for us.Viewing EBCDIC files has always been problematic for myself and a couple dozen clients. Where do I sign up for a registration key?”
- “I'm sure that I'm not the only user who has offered suggestions and provided feedback, so you've probably been told this before by others, but I'll say it anyway: I really appreciate your willingness to listen to us, your licensed user base, and incorporate our suggestions into the product; this kind of collaboration is good for everyone.”
- “You know, I might have said this a while ago, but it bears repeating: Not only is V one of the most useful utilities I have come across in my 28 years of IT experience, it is the best supported product I have ever acquired. Thank you; I appreciate it.”
- “Thank you anyway for making and maintaining V. I use it almost continuously, replacing the Windows Explorer.
I do a lot of data conversions from several applications to the one my company makes and use logfiles of megabaytes and gigabytes, without problems and fast!
Also the File Search module is excellent, especially since I can use the @-file option. I can easily extract data from these huge files and copy results to another file, much faster than I could do with any editor.”
