"What is WaggleImage, anyways?"

In a nutshell, it's comprehensive, affordable imaging software for small business and home users.

"Well, what the heck is imaging software?"

Imaging software is used to scan, store, organize, and provide easy access to pretty much any paper document, including credit card slips, invoices, warranty documents, tax documents, medical insurance claims... you get the idea!

Now, we're not suggesting that you should throw out your filing cabinets immediately. After all, those suckers are HEAVY! We're simply suggesting that you might want to start thinking about how to fill that big empty space beside your desk...

Feature alert! WaggleImage now includes full text OCR for document searching!

Roberto when i open the options menu, i cant change to the user settings entry or the application settings. Is this a restriction of the trial?
WI does not recognice my scaner and i wish to change it.

Dean Hill The trial has no limitations other than the 30 day restriction. The "User Settings" and "Application Settings" items in the treeview are group headers that have no pages or settings associated with them. On the scanner side, we support all TWAIN scanners. Can you give me the model of the scanner and we will investigate further. From time to time, scanner vendors don't install the TWAIN drivers by default.

Dean Hill The software is not tied to a specific OCR or Barcode engine. These are plugable modules that can change depending on which engines we feel provide the best performance and quality.

HJ B Can you tell us:

1. Is this a pdf - output based product? If so, is it claimed to be ewual to or an improvement over the scanning and ocr capabilities of Adobe Acrobate Pro?

2. Your earlier answer with regard to OCR is not clear. I assume that the product comes with an OCR engine. Are you saying that from time to time you may change that engine? If so, is there a charge for such changes? In any event, what OCR engine is provided with the software now?

3. Does the present OCR present an actually text product or does it produce an image with searchable text in the background, but not actually seen? The distinction is important because, in the second category, the text may look accurate, but numerous inaccuracies can be in the non-visible searchable text component. In any event, is there a system included for the correction of OCR errors?

4. From the description, there are a number of settings that probably trade off between image quality and size and speed of scanning. There are problems that can result from the wrong choices: a) documents that do not show up well on screen or in print; b) documents that show up well on screen, but have a poor print quality; c) Poor OCR because of inadequate document quality. Does this product provide some assistance to the user so as to avoid later, too late to do anything about it, problems?

Herman User I am very interested in your product but seem to have a problem with OCR and document preview. I installed on Windows 7 64bit, the first problem is that PDF files doesn't show a preview in the WI preview pane , Adobe Reafer opens every time to show the document, I just get a "Navigation to the web page was cancelled" in the preview pane. The second problem is that it doesn't find any documents if I do an OCR search. I imported PDF files that are printed material, so it is clear text. Yet when I do an OCR search nothing shows. When I do a "Retrieve system information" it shows that the files were processed by OCR.

Dean Hill 1. While the software can store PDF files, it does not use PDF internally to stored the scanned documents. The pages are stored individually. This is done for performance reasons. When a 250 page document is retrieved, there is no need to retrieve all 250 pages if the user only wants to view the first or second page. This is especially noticeable when viewing documents over a network. The purpose of the software is not to scan a few files that a user would like stored on their hard drive, it's to manage the scanned files. So you can scan thousands or tens of thousands of documents into the system and the system will still remain lightning fast. It's like a big filing cabinet with multiple indexes instead of the typical "A-Z" that you would find.

2. There will not be any charges for changes to the OCR engine. If we bundle a new engine it will be included in the software assurance. We presently use a custom configured version of Tesseract.

3. The OCR is only used for searching. It does not overlay the text on the pages or replace the text on the pages. So, for example, when you have 2000 documents in the system you can search for all documents that contain the word "bank". The system will then return a list of all of the documents that contain the word and then let you view, print, email or export those documents.

4. The scanning quality settings are very important with regards to OCR and barcode recognition. As you indicated, there is a trade off between size and quality. By default, when a user starts using WaggleImage, we set up a number of scanning profiles. These scanning profiles provide optimal settings for the average user but can be changed by the advanced users, should they require.

Just in summary, the purpose of WaggleImage is to scan documents and once they are scanned, to manage those documents. Documents can also be imported into the system. It's been written so that people can take all of the documents that they have lying around their house or home office (e.g. Invoices, Statements, Contracts, etc), scan these in and then access them quickly when they need them.

Dean Hill Herman, would you mind contacting supportwagglesoft.com so we can investigate these. There are a number of things that could be relevant in this situation.

HJ B I installed the software on a computer running Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. Attached is a Fujitsu Scanner fi6770. wjhich is in good working order and is recognized by its own bundled software as well as Adobe Acrobat Pro and other scanning software.

1. Your software said it could not locate a scanner. It asked if I wanted it to try to recognized the scanner next time your program starts. I agreed.

2. I restarted and the program asked for my username and password. Since this was a test, I had used the password waggle. It did not recognize the password. (Perhaps an initial error by me; perhaps it is a problem with the program). I deinstalled and then reinstalled. However, it did not again ask me to set a password, and apparently wants me to enter the original password.

So - I am in a loop and cannot test the software.

3. I have several scanners. One of which is an HP sheet feeder that will only work with Windows 98 and another is a Ricoh that will only work with Windows XP. The companies have not updated the drivers. Will your program recognize those scanners on a Windows 7 64 computer?

Dean Hill I am sorry for the inconvenience. There is a patch for this issue. It arises sometimes when there are multiple scanners on a machine. Here is the link to the update that resolves the problem.

http://www.wagglesoft.com...Update.exe

We are still testing the fix with the full installation which is why it has not yet been included in the full setup.

The default username and password for the software is Admin without a password. This is tried by default when the software first starts up so it is not necessary to remember it.

Please start the WaggleImage Repository Manager after you have installed the patch. This will make sure that the service is stopped and restarted after your initial problems.

HJ B 1. I got around the password problem by deinstalling again, and then manually deleting all files I could find that had to do with the initial installation, and then rebooted computer.

2. I ran your patch, and it recognized the Fujitsu and some other scanner drivers. (only the Fujitsu is connected). I selected the Fujitus. The program then said it could not tell if the scanner has a feeder. I told it it does. I then received the original message indicating it could not find the scanner.

3. I then looked to see if there was some way that I could manually find the scanner for the program. Nothing under "Advanced Administration. Then went to options button and the program locked up. Wherever I click on the program window produces a ding sound, but I cannot close or otherwise operate the progam.

4. Closed the program using Task Manager and restarted it. Still will not scan."Cannot load softpc module". Used another scan program - scanned properly.

Dean Hill The software will find all installed TWAIN drivers, not just the connected ones. The problem that the patch resolves only occurs when the first scanner driver in the list is not connected or working correctly.

The advanced options relating to the scanner drivers are all in the options screen.

That error message you are receiving "Cannot load softpc module" is definitely not coming from our software. We have no reference to "softpc" in our software. It's likely that the error message is coming from the scanner driver.

Please could you contact our support directly and I am sure we will be able to assist you in resolving the problem.
