What are people saying about Website Realizer

Neville Franks I've downloaded the trial of Website Realizer and am impressed with its capabilities.

I see that it uses absolute positioning for HTML elements and would like to know if this creates any issues, such as poorer results for organic search. Also how does this affect layouts that size horizontaly to match the browser window?

In the future I'd also like to see a larger FAQ, real contact details for the Company, a Support Forum and Blog. Oh and the ability to produce templates for mainstream CMS's would be a huge plus. That said I wish you great success.

Adrian Yiu Thank you very much for your questions and suggestions.

I think as long as the page does not have HTML code errors and can be parsed successfully by search engines, it should not have any problems. However, absolute positioning should not be used to trick search engines to gain higher ranking, such as hiding text filled with keyword phrases behind images. This will be penalized by search engines when discovered.

Currently only fixed width layout is supported.

We will consider your valuable suggestions.

Adrian Williams In less than 10 minutes I bought it !
This software is superb for creating web pages if you've no experience with html, web coding, wordpress etc etc.

If you've a blog - this is an excellent way of creating pages that'll be the envy of your colleagues. Create the page in Website Realizer then click on the html tab, copy all the code and paste it into your wordpress blog pages or posts. Simple. OK an bit of re-linking may be required but that's a doddle compared to trying to do the same using your html skills alone.

You can also use the program to create stunning mailshots or newsletters using a free mailchimp account (for example).

Of course, if you're designing standard websites, this program has enough features to create a nice website too.

For the money, you can't go wrong.
Enough for now - give the software a try. Well worth the money. :-)

Adrian Yiu Hi Mitch, any style rules defined in the CSS Style Editor will be placed in an external style sheet and the link to this style sheet will be added to the pages automatically. You don't need to create it manually.

Kevin J Can this create a website in which a shopping cart can be easily added? I am considering building a website using Open Cart but would rather build the site using a web creator. I bought XSitePro2 last year and although touted as extremely user-friendly, I have not been able to create a site with it yet. It is just too complicated. if you are familiar with XSP2 how does your product compare?

Thank you for the answers to these two questions (shopping cart integration and compared to XSP2) in advance.

Best of luck to you with your product. Kevin.

Roberto i tryed many wysiwygs, but i think this is a good choice. In 2 hours, i find its quite stable, and the extra tools as image editor, web button creator, color analyzer.. are really useful.
The generated source code is based on a stack of z-index ids for positioning (xhtml 1.0 transitional). Source code cant be modified from WebsiteRealizer, i think the final source can get many "divitus", but looks well formated, and... readable.
Quality of navigation bars is great, can handle forms, paypal stuff...
Has an useful guide border grid (960 style system). I found a small bug when change the size to custom, WR does not activate the width/heigh boxes (they appear disabled).
Allow to use a template.html file to keep the common parts of the design.
The interface is clean, i miss to have a "create new page" in the Website Explorer Bar (it has add folder, rename folder or file.. but you have to go to the main bar to create a new html page).
I usually code by hand with emeditor/topstyle and stylizer, but ill get this deal and see what happens :)
I wish to have some support forums, but this is quite new version (v1.7).
PD: sorry my english.

Roberto Hello Adrian, in the Image editor, while trying filters, the preview button does not work while deactivating it. This happen with all the filters. I dont know if there is some technical reason there for this behaviour.

im still impressed about this software. Hey guys! give this a try :)

Adrian Yiu Hi Roberto,

Thank you very much for your comments. Deselecting the preview option will be in effect for the current editing session only. After starting the Image Editor again, the preview option will be selected again by default. This option is mainly for working with larger images. For example, you may need to change several options to get the desired results. However, rather than waiting for all options to be set, the preview image will be generated immediately after you set each option . Under this circumstances, you can deselect the preview option, set all the required values and then select the preview again to see the final result. For some long running filters such as "Reduce Noise from Photo", the preview option is turned off by default.
Adritech Software - Aug 27 2011 at 8:50am Copy Link
0
Roberto I was expecting to see the original image (without the effect) while disabling the Preview (but when i do that, the last effect setting remains visible).

Example. I open the sharpen filter, set Iterations to 3, and press "Preview" on and off to see the differences with the original file.
Aug 27 2011 at 11:21am Copy Link
0
Adrian Yiu Hi Roberto,

Thank you very much for your comments. Turning off the preview option will only make the next operation not updating the image. The last effect will be kept. When the preview option is turned on again, the current settings will be applied to the image. Our original design of this option is to delay the updating of an image until we set all the options.

Will WR play well with the other BdJ deal, CSE HTML Validator?

Specifically, if I sent WR's code through CSE HTML Validator and then brought it back into WR for further tweaking, would WR choke on any of CSE HTML Validator's corrections?

After publishing the pages to a local directory, they can be checked by CSE HTML Validator. However, WR can't parse back the pages and convert them back to pages in WR whether they are changed by CSE HTML Validator or not.

Steven Avery And I'm also doing the wee hour buy. The idea of using a friendly, crisp interface for some largely text and font oriented Bible research pages, without getting too trapped in blogger land, is appealing. I dabbled with SIte-Spinner, your interface and approach looks a little smoother and perhaps technically up-to-dat. WeBuilder looks like it takes more time coming up to speed, and I will do web-pages more for simplicity and information than fancy. You look good.

Even if things like templates look limited (you could use more straightforward columnar style templates.) I'll take the plunge on the hope that it becomes a tool that encourages me to do more.

The deciding factor of course are a few satisfied semi-tech customers and most importantly, a real live developer who cares. Also the investment risk is low.

Roberto Hi bethel95,
you can check with the W3C or HTML Validator and you will get a quite decent validation.
Go inside WR again, and try to fix all the errors. In the templates, I have seen only some empty spans (warning), some empty href atributes (can fix easily), some missing empty alt atributes... and try to not use custom image sizes (warning).
I still not check this in deep, but i think it should be no problem to pass the W3C.

Adrian Yiu Hi Stanley,

1. Yes, it is the full version and is the same as the one we sell on our website.

2. The formal support period is 12 months after buying our software. However, we will still answer your support questions even the period has expired. The upgrade protection period is 12 months after the purchase. You can upgrade to any major or minor versions released within that period. Please note that if a new version is released within 12 months, for example 1.8.0, then all versions 1.8.x (1.8.1, 1.8.2...) will still be free to you even your protection period has already expired. So, if you can install 1.8.0, you can install all 1.8.x versions even the upgrade period has expired.

3. Yes, Unicode is supported. However, the user interface is in English only.

Yes, it is possible. Google Map will generate HTML code for you to embed on your page. Insert an HTML Source element to a page by selecting "Insert" - "HTML Source" from the main menu. Double-click on the newly inserted element to open it in the HTML Source Editor. Paste the code from Google Map there. Then resize it to the size of your map as set in the embedded code.

Can one use WR with a CMS like Joomla/Wordpress? Can WR work with a database behind it at all?

Adrian Yiu Hi Lupke,

We are sorry that WR does not support importing HTML files. To use it with your existing website, you will need to create a new website and then copy the text and images to it. For Joomla/Wordpress, you can only create a link to them. No code will be generated for integrating with these CMS. WR currently does not also use a database.

Should you need more information or clarification, please do hesitate to contact us.

Adrian Yiu Hi Stanley,

Currently, Website Realizer only generate standard code for XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1. HTML 5 and CSS 3 will be supported in future release. Please note that WR is a website generator. Though you can insert HTML code to a page, you cannot edit the generated HTML code without first publishing it to a local directory. However, WR cannot import the published HTML file back to a page in itself. So you cannot use it as an HTML Editor.

Adrian Yiu Hi Boris,

By default, HTML pages are compacted when published to a local directory or web server in order to speed up loading. If you need to edit the generated HTML code, you can turn off this feature by selecting "Tools" - "Preferences" from the Main Menu, then select the item "Publish Website" on the left and deselect the option "Compact HTML web pages".

You can insert an image button to the form by selecting "Insert" - "Form and Form Elements" - "Image Button".

Ed Ward Features that Distinguish Website Realizer:
I purchased WR the last time it was offered on BDJ and have used to redo (and update) our entire website (small analyst firm, no IT dept :) ). I did an in-depth comparison to several other "competing" packages and found WR to be superior (primarily in terms of functionality and usability).

Remarkably powerful, flexible and intuitive and the support has been great. For the DIYer, a resource that I found invaluable is the detailed manual (online and pdf) - check out the online version at http://buff.ly/PXL3aH. The online version also includes step-by-step videos that literally show you how to do many of the more "involved" tasks. The documentation alone makes WR worthwhile.

Features I especially like include:
1. Layout as you wish (not "template" driven, like some pkgs); can be daunting, but if your website represents you and your co., important!
2. Setting up navigation (menus, etc.) intuitive
3. Image handling (including setting up multiple images in a JS windows - and I know nothing about JS!). And yes, you can create and upload your own buttons, etc.

The only area that I found wanting was forms... however, after some research, I selected an online service (FormSite - flexible and reasonsable; forms easily inserted into WR). Haven't looked at latest release, so WR may have improved on this.

A delighted, loyal user!

Trond Ruud Is there some way to convert/import existing FrontPage webs to your format, navigation hierarchy and all? My FrontPage 2003 works fine on my computer but usually fails with a server timeout error during uploading, and most hosting services complain about it being too old to fix the problem

Adrian Yiu Hi Trond,

We are sorry that WR does not support importing HTML files. To use it with your existing website, you will need to create a new website and then copy the text and images to it. Thanks for your suggestion regarding the support of importing FrontPage website. We may consider that.

Form and form elements can be inserted on a page. However, we only generate PHP script to send the form data to an email (upload fields not supported). Other than this you will need external third party form processing scripts.

Thank you very much for your support. The "Photo Edge Effects Dialog" is within the Filters menu in the Image Editor. The icon for this can be found on this page "http://www.websiterealize...lbars.html". It is item 12. This item is a drop down menu as shown on this page "http://www.websiterealize...-menu.html". Select item 3 "Photo Edge Effects" will open the Photo Edge Effects Dialog. It looks like the one on this page "http://www.websiterealize...ialog.html". There is an Import button on the top right corner. We are sorry for the confusion.

Ashley Dennison Website Realizer seems to be a pretty good tool, but I dont think it goes far enough. There doesnt seem to be any way to copy just the page structure. (Try making a 20 page site where every page has the same containers, but different content, and you will quickly see a copy structure command would be very useful). The menu bar maker should be able to automatically create links to internal pages on one or other "level". Having to manually link up the menus is a bit tedious. A future version could have better support for jQuery objects and/or Html 5. Are any of these features planned for the future?
Feb 20 2013 at 5:09am Copy Link
0
Adrian Yiu Hi Ashley,

Thank you very much for your comments. You can place common elements such as header, footer and navigation bar on a template page and all pages that use the template page will automatically have those elements. As not all pages created will appear on a navigation bar and items on it may have no correpondence to their physical location, so we let users to decide which pages to place on the navigation bar and on where. Selected HTML5 features will be supported in future versions. There are a plethora of effects that can be done with JQuery, we may select some to be added in future versions.

Ota C Here is a bunch of questions before I go ahead and buy it (since you guys are actively answering customer queries in real time - kudos to you, btw):

Will those future versions you've mentioned be given or sold to us (i.e. will you release the HTML5-enabled version before the 12-month free update deadline)?

How many templates are included (and how many are not)? Where can we view both sets?

If Website Realizer cannot intagrate certain standard things, do your customers have to use only the provided PayPal integration or is there anything that can be plugged in? (I'm talking about e-commerce, third-party FAQ/blog/comment tools, etc.)

Cheers,

Ota

Adrian Yiu Hi Ota,

We are sorry for the late reply. We have not had a fixed date for its release yet so we are unable to say whether the features will be available within the next 12 months.

There are 37 templates not including the ones used for tutorials. Three are included in the trial version. All of them are shown on our website "http://www.websiterealize...lates.html".

Website Realizer does not support plugin. If you have third-party HTML code, it can be added to a page by inserting an HTML Source element.

Ed Ward I've used Website Realizer now for several years to develop and update our website (prof. services firm; lots of content, 100+ pages)... Found WR very versatile, fairly intuitive (and I'm not a programmer). When I got stumped, Adrian was quick to respond and very helpful.

They also have incredibly detailed documentation, including videos showing exactly how to do virtually anything (I didn't discover this until after purchasing - they should feature more prominently. A great resource).

Before adopting, I had looked closely at leading "template-based" platforms. WR allowed me to design, layout just as I wanted, without having to fit into pre-defined templates.

We don't use for e-commerce, so can't speak to that. For forms, we use Formsite (http://www.formsite.com/).

Adrian Yiu Hi Randy,

Yes, you can add Lightbox effects to the selected images on a page. Drag thumbnail images from the Website Explorer to a page. Link each thumbnail to the larger image. Then select all the thumbnail images on the page. Select "Insert" - "Javascript" - "Lightbox" from the main menu. Press the OK button to add the effect.

You can create your site within Website Realizer and then upload the generated website to a hosting provider you choose.

As we only use a subset of HTML tags in our software and need the HTML source to have some predefined structures, manually edited HTML code may not be able to be parsed back to a page recognizable in our software. So it is not likely to happen so soon.

If so, is it possible to create template pages where the tablet and mobile adjustments can be made by default (ahead of time), and then the manual edits on every individual page element will NOT be required if new pages are created using the mobile and tablet-friendly template pages?

Elements on the template pages adjusted for tablet and mobile layouts will be used by all pages that use them. However, template page is only used for common elements that appear on every page like navigation bar and copyright at the footer. Elements that are specific to each page need to be set manually. However, each type of element has a default layout. If it work for you, you do not need to set anything.

A forum is a natural idea for such a software, for support and generating interest. See SiteSpinner as an example. Could you try to have one set up?

Terry User @Todd, I bought the program yesterday and have been working with it since, but like you I'm having a tough time doing things that are normally easy. Most of it I believe is simply that the process to accomplish things is different than in most other programs, and will require some time to get used to the terminology and actual process for each task.

The program appears to be very capable, and the tutorials in the online manual have helped to some extent, but it might help a lot more if Adrian were able to put together some video tutorials for different aspects of the program.

Right now it seems for every step forward I'm taking 3 steps back and confusing myself, but I'm determined to build a full website with it. It's taking some time, but once I finish a full website all the features should be much easier to use. I may have been better off not having so much experience with other programs.

No slight intended to the program at all, Adrian, it's a very full featured system, it's just a question of getting used to the way it works...

Ed Ward I'm a professional (head of my own consulting firm) w/ no coding experience.

I've used Website Realizer for nearly 5 years and have managed to create a robust, professional looking website w/ lots of content and functionality.

Website Realizer has a bit of a learning curve, but not too steep - given its remarkable feature set, well worth the trouble to learn. One tremendous resource is a very detailed online user manual, which (last time I checked) documents and illustrates virtually everything in the program. Like other users, I can also vouch for the developer's responsiveness - Adrian responds promptly and is always very helpful. Rare for a developer to provide that kind of support, but much appreciated, particularly for end-users (like me) who get stumped from time to time.

Of all the programs I've found and tried on BDJ over the years, Website Realizer is the one that I've found invaluable.

franp User Hi,

Nice offer. It is not clear from the documentation on your website to which extend it is possible to embed external php scripts into pages.
Is it possible to publish a whole site as .php pages instead of .html ?

In the same area, is it possible to publish a whole site whith all internal links as https://, and is it possible to add external javascript libraries such as jQuery to a whole site ?
Oct 17 2017 at 1:01am Copy Link
0
Adrian Yiu Hi Franp,

There are several places you can embed html, javascript and php scripts:-

1) Select Insert -> HTML Source from the main menu. An element will be inserted to the active page. Double-click on it to open it in the HTML Source Editor. Then enter your code there.

2) You can also add them to the Head or Body section of a page. Right-click on a page and then select "Page HTML" from the context menu. Click on the "Inside Head" or "Inside Body" tab and enter your code there.

For pages with PHP code, change the extension of the name to "php", such as "index.html" to "index.php".

By default, pages are created using the extension "html". You can change it to "php". Select "Tools" > "Preferences" from the main menu. Select the item "Web Page". Change the "HTML page extension" on the right.

We use relative path for links to internal files in the website. So if your visitors use https://, the files will be loaded by https://. You can try it on our website using both http:// and https://.

To add JQuery, right-click on a page and select "Page Properties" from the context menu. Select the option "Add JQuery javascript library". For other external libraries, click on the "Add" button and select them from the drop down menu.

Louis User I have a website already with a layout and css styling that I've personally customized. How hard would it likely be for me to modify one of your templates so that my site will still look and act like my site?

Adrian Yiu Hi Louis,

We would suggest going through the Getting Started Tutorial to see how a website is created using our software. You do not need to actually build the website. Just skip through the steps to do this. Then create one of the pages from your website using our software. This way it will be more easy for you to determine if it will be hard to recreate your website using our software.

CFGuy Hi- Quick question. Does this program allow user to assign multiple "hotspots" to graphic/photo images that, when clicked, would link to a different part of the website, or another website? Usually, one can do this by drawing a transparent box or shape on a part of the graphic/image and then assign a URL link to that box/shape. And the most important factor is "more than 1" hotspot/link per graphic/image. Thanks.

Adrian Yiu Hi CFGuy,

You can place transparent images over a background image and assign links to them. However this approach only works on desktop layout and may be tablet layout but it will not work on mobile layout.

Richard User I was on the fence about buying a license for this program, because I'm not sure if I will be designing a new website in the future. What pushed me over into the "buy" column are the overwhelming positive comments in the past AND the very responsive support from the developer. So, I might have bought something I end up not using (it wouldn't be the first time ), but I'm happy to have this tool available to me if/when I need it, and I'm happy to support a good developer.

(PS- The ability to develop for mobile devices as well as standard desktop was also a key factor for me.)

Ed Ward Of all the software I've purchased from BDJ over the years, Website Realizer is by far the most useful (MyInfo is a close 2nd). See my previous review last year for details. I shouldn't say this but WR would still be worth it at a much higher price. Adrian is incredibly responsive and WR is a robust, powerful platform, capable of doing everything I've required... and I don't know any HTML!

Adrian, aside from the praise for WR, I do have a question - can you briefly list (or provide a link to) the most important enhancements in the latest version of Website Realizer? I plan to update regardless but just curious.

Adrian Yiu Hi Ed,

Thank you very much for your praise. The new features for each release are listed on this page "http://www.websiterealize...story.html". The most important one for the latest release is a search engine that you can add to your website.

Dunking I've just gone through the sample tutorial with this and will probably purchase when it goes live, but there is one thing (so far!) that nags me: when placing or sizing elements it seems to be mouse drag only. That can be very difficult and tedious to get to pixel accuracy, so much so that I can't believe there isn't something to click on and enter the data in numbers. The status bar seems the obvious place, but it ignores clicks.

Have I missed something or is it really the case that one needs a steady hand to place or size stuff?

Adrian Yiu Hi Dunking,

You can use the arrow keys to move the elements and CTRL+Arrow keys to resize them.

Adrian Yiu Hi Barb,

We have not had any new video tutorials for V2.0 yet. We will certainly use other formats for future videos. The ones you saw were made several years ago and for versions before V2.0. We have removed most of the video tutorials. The ones left are still relevant to the topics they demonstrate. Users may find them helpful so we still keep them.

Luke @Adria Yiu,

Your website says: Template 18, Template 20 and Template 30 to Template 44 work on desktop, tablet and mobile devices. All other templates currently have desktop layout only.

Are you making ALL your templates responsive or just these templates above?

Adrian Yiu Hi Luke,

Only the specified templates 18, 20, 30 to 44 are responsive. The others will be made responsive in our future releases.

Jean Belanger I just bought Website Realiser from BitDuJour, paying with PayPal.
But I was charged the full price of 59.95$ rather than sale price of 29.95.
The order number is Order ID: AS-180221-1500-26115
What is happening?

Andy Tate Okay I've taken the plunge and bought the BitsDuJour deal. Software looks very mature (revision history goes back years and years) - been reading the wonderfully laid out help system and I like the fact that it runs locally and offline and no monthly fees, but I've not had time to really evaluate it as even extended offer expired today and I had lots of other jobs to do. Lets hope I learn fast and get to revamp my club's website and make a new one that's responsive to desktop and mobile browsers.
