Gary Smith I urge everyone to read ALL of the Older Comments. Whitesmoke uses common terms differently from what is expected.

The last time this was offered on BdJ, they actually used the term Lifetime but it meant only 3 years to them. They have changed to use the term One-time purchase, which means you can keep the version you purchased without having to pay anymore (essentially no subscription to continue using), ... but no upgrades. It is just another way of trying to force users into purchasing without knowing the full ramifications. They do not do business like other companies do. Lifetime or One-time purchase would mean free updates and upgrades to later versions to most anyone, but not this company.

In response to customer's asking why they used the Lifetime term when it was not a Lifetime of updates AND upgrades, they responded that it would be lifetime for that BdJ offer only (but not in the future). In the end, even that lifetime turned out to be that you could use the program for a lifetime but you did not get any upgrades, so as soon as a new major version number comes out, users are out of luck. They compared it to MS Office in that when a new version of MS Office comes out, you have to pay again. The flaw here is that the previous MS Office was not offered as a Lifetime license, so of course you have to pay.

As far as how well the program performs, it had a lot of false positives on things that it suggested the user change. It also copies everything you check to the cloud, which is a major concern for a lot of people (you always need a connection to use the software; it is not standalone). In the end, it simply wasn't worth it.

In the older comments is at least one reference to a review. This is the same version offered last time so It is not likely to work any better, but regardless of how great it could be, the licensing does it in.

The above sounds like a bad translation from a foreign language, to me. Someone cannot even get the description sounding like proper English: So I think, perhaps, I will rely on my own - very average - knowledge of written and spoken English.

It is interesting that the ad for Whitesmoke uses the term Lifetime in that offer, but notice the purchaser gets free updates, but no mention of free upgrades. So basically the user is stuck with the same major version number forever. Anyone purchasing the same program later (after a major version number change) will have a later version of the program than what you would get if you purchase using this Lifetime updates. When a new major number version change occurs, there will no more "updates" for the license you purchased under this deal.

Chris I purchased a while back and got a new computer as my old one died. I used the link in my email to download the installer again but even with my UAC turned off it stops it from running. Upon checking the certificate, it has been revoked, so it seems like I need a way around this or need a refund.

The reason there are upgrades as with almost all softwares is because there are new versions of operating systems and version of office outlook etc and this requires updates to the software to work with those applications.

HKP On March 11th 2018, White Smoke made a special offer for BitsDuJour users only. The vendor provided a lifetime license which should be valid for an unlimited number of years. This has been pretty unusual because the service is known to require payment repeatedly all three years. Obviously, many other visitors doubted the promise. If you go back to this date in the discussion thread, you will find several inquiries from different users. They were all answered with the explicit assurance of license-validity without a limit of time by the White Smoke representative. I then took the offer and can tell now, if the vendor kept his promise.

However, exactly after the usual three years, the service refused to work for me. Neither the online version nor the desktop version connected to the server. I was treated like a customer without a valid license. This time I still received help from the WhiteSmoke Support Department. They gave me new credentials, so I could use the service furthermore. Until here the reader might think I now got the promised license without a limit of time, though the service for me has been interrupted again. This time the service ended already after only one year. However, I tried in vain to get support from White Smoke again. I could see my request on Kayako and got a ticket number #TET-971-94266 by email. Nevertheless, all what followed were silence. I reminded the open case and received another automated email. All my requests are displayed on Kayako. However, WhiteSmoke remains silent.

This means: Beware of the WhiteSmoke assurances!

Can Constantin Florea intervene in this case and make the vendor answer?

John User I have to admit that I've previously struggled with translation.

It could be especially crucial to be precise while utilizing idioms in some circumstances. I've already heard good things about russian video translation from a trustworthy buddy.
