Robert User The download triggers security concerns, so you have to intervene.
I run W11Pro 64bit with normal Windows Defender.
I was using Edge Browser.
The download did appear if you click the Download icon in Edge top right.
I had to click the 3 dots adjacent to the (attempted) download, and was told it had some security problem.
My 81 year old memory is crap, but you have to click something to give it permission to complete the download. Which I did. The downloaded zip contains the installer exe.
Which I have now installed.
Looks to be a great giveaway.

Loyal Customer An update and some installation feedback to the developer:

Yes, the download triggers a security issue.
Upon clicking the "direct" link to download, Firefox traps and prevents the download, with a red warning of a security threat.
I had to override the browser's action.
The download passed 3 security checks. So no issues there.

Installation:
Installation was smooth.
I was surprised with all the 14 options. Never seen that in any other player. Some or all of these options should be transparent to the user, and should be automatically installed with the program installation, or triggered when invoked during playing of a clip that requires some of them.

The options window remains open after selecting to install all 14 options. It should close automatically upon completion so it won't confuse some users who are not highly experienced with computers.

Upon running the program, it displays 3 configuration options, including Android, and asks me to select one. Why is this not-so-smart step? Why can't the program detect it is running Windows 10 Pro on a desktop? I have never seen another program in my 30 years of computer engineering that asks this question.

Hovering on any icon at the bottom of the Playlist does NOT display any text to show the user the function of that icon. That's very unusual in this day & age of computers.
On the positive side, it is impressive that this program has a legacy installation option for Windows 95, 98, and ME!
The user interface looks pleasant.

I will be testing the player with audio and video in the next few days and weeks.
Thank you for this giveaway.

Loyal Customer @Inmatrix,
I would think the easiest way to resolve this security warning issue is to communicate with Mozilla.
Most likely they have some exclusion list.
Nov 22 2023 at 8:55am Copy Link
0
Inmatrix Loyal Customer:
You'd think that, but firefox hooks into some windows API for that and you'd think the API would be connected to windows defender database or something else, but it doesn't look like it's updating fast enough.

My guess is that the giveaway installer (which is a custom installer for this specific giveaway) does not yet have the installer's hash code in the microsoft database, even though I scanned it on virustotal.

I keep having issues with Microsoft on this, false-positives and other quirks/. It even listed a beta EXE I sent to one of my testers as "fake program warning" because it didn't have the EXE's hash on record (and how could it, it was a special EXE build to test a new feature).

Loyal Customer Thanks, Inmatrix.
I understand your issues with MS and/or Mozilla.
I'm confident that you will eventually overcome & resolve these issues. The user should use their own judgment when it comes to false security triggers. A developer, generally speaking, is not in the business of infecting customers' machines.

Right now, what annoys me in the Zoom Player, as I said before, is that the little icons at the bottom of the Playlist do not reveal themselves when you hover the mouse over them.
That should be a minor and easy program update.

My goto players are 2. MPC-HC 64 for general audio & video, mostly video, and Foobar 2000 as the major audio player for its exceptional multi-playlist capability. One of my playlists on Foobar has over 5 thousand titles and several other lists with thousands of titles. All these lists are loaded simultaneously. So I never need to close a list in order to load another!! The lists are tabbed at the top of the player.
I must say that I also still use WinAmp Pro now & then for a certain feature of it not available anywhere else.

Best of luck.

Inmatrix Loyal Customer:
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "the little icons at the bottom of the Playlist do not reveal themselves when you hover the mouse over them". If you're using the default skin, there is a mouse-hover effect on the bottom buttons, can you explain? or better yet, come over to Zoom Player's sub-reddit, I would love to get more of your feedback.

Version 18 is close to release, so this feature won't be make in time, but I have support for multi-playlists on my to-do list, so there's a good chance I'll have support for them soon. Zoom Player already has several strong playlist features, including the Advanced Playlist Control which can filter large lists and take actions quickly.

Free Ride @Lynne User

There are differences between virus warnings and virus warnings. PUP usually refers to possibly unwanted program. That means really nothing and just one engine out of almost millions flagged the file, so it's very much a false positive. I don't even know about VirIT, all other well-known AV's didn't detect anything. So there is that and makes one wonder why that is.

Inmatrix Lynne User:
There is no virus in Zoom Player, the only thing virustotal finds is one vendor "VirIT" classifying Zoom Player as "PUP" which means "Potentially Unwanted Program", which is messed up.

Inmatrix Crap, I just did a search for "Zoom Player PUP" and they are just blatantly lying about what Zoom Player supposedly does (showing ads and pop-ups). No, Zoom Player does not install anything other than open-source codecs!

It looks like "PUP" is being used by anti-malware software as a scare tactics for people to install their software. It seems there is no honor among developers.

On the first run of ZP, right at the end of the installation process, the icons/tools at the bottom of the Playlist did not have a mouse-hover reaction at all. I tried that multiple times.
After exiting ZP and running it again, the hover action/reaction came to life.
So a restart of the program solved it.
Thanks.

Free Ride @Lynne User

Well, it's not that much of a problem to be attentive and suspicious of findings AV's do make but some are simply false positives, i can't explain this enough. If the dev reached out to them and they don't fix their virus alert, there isn't much Inmatrix could do to change that. I used the player several times in many years, got it always when a new giveaway was published and constantly upgraded to newer versions, not once did i have a single virus warning.

The only thing i'd suggest is only installing the codecs you really need or require, the more you have, doesn't mean the better.

Other than that i'd always grab a new copy if offered, free is always a steal and to me, Inmatrix is as trustworthy as any other developer offering software here and i also trust BDJ in offering clean files to us.

A suggestion, or a wishlist:
1) When a playlist is loaded (which may have a very large number of titles), and the user starts selecting titles to play, it's most desirable to see these cued titles numbered sequentially as they are added.
That's helpful to know when a song is expected to play. That's how WinAmp and Foobar2000 work.
Right now, the entire list is numbered sequentially when loaded, which I think is not necessary.

2) Two other playlist columns I'd love to see added are the Bit Rate of the file and the file size.

3) Please display the name of the playlist on top of the playlist window.

I'll try to think of some more.
Thanks.

1) I didn't quite understand your meaning here (see below).
2) I'm considering re-writing the playlist so you can choose which columns appear.
3) Yes in theory, but I'd like to discuss it further with you.

I've already begun the concept design for multiple playlists. I don't like the tabs approach, it takes too much space. I'm thinking an easily accessible button that will pop a playlist list you can quickly switch to.

Zoom Player's playlist code is already highly optimized for speed and a large number of entries. I believe last year I was doing tests on playlists with over 20K entries.

Please write me a message on reddit, I'd like to discuss some of your ideas in more details and this comment area isn't suited for this, this is my reddit account, please leave a message/chat:

Loyal Customer @ Casey, I don't know what antivirus program you use.
I have 5 levels of protection, and I checked the ZP file with 3 of them.
All three reported no issues.
The other thing to keep in mind is that a software vendor who is trying to market his product is NOT in the business of infecting customers' computers with viruses.
Forget your Antivirus program and upload the ZP file to the Total Virus website.
The site tests it with at least 2 dozen antivirus programs and gives you the result.
It's free. It's common sense.
So no need to rely on just the program you have.

Robert Crombie Let me start by saying 90% of people posting to forums (and here) do not provide enough information. SNAP OUT OF IT.
If you read my first pos above, you will see me describing (IN DETAIL) my install of this giveaway.
I was intending to install this giveaway to my other PC later on, but some posts above made me believe I have to do it within the giveaway period.
So I fired up my other PC to do the install.
It is a 32bit desktop running W10 Pro. The antivirus is Bitdefender free, which i believed was easily switched off.
I no longer believe that, so it will be getting uninstalled in the next few days.
I am 81 so my memory does not work.
When I fired up the 32bit PC, I found that I had purchased a lifetime version a few years back. So I decided to download the full blown installer from Zoom's web site.
I used Firefox, and got some security warning which I had to say 'do it anyway', which I did.
Download was extremely slow, and I was not allowed to run the installer.
I fired up Edge, and attempted a fresh download. I had to give permission to override warnings a couple of times.
Extremely slow download, but once downloaded, it installed.
Even the extras that the install suggests were slow downloading.
Entered my 4 year old key, and it is now installed, and registered.
Will be looking forward to the new version the author mentioned.

Robert Crombie inmatrix,
I suspect it was the antivirus stringently checking it out, as it nibbled its way through the download.
We (PC owners) should have the right to tell our antivirus to turn off, when we command it to.
I thought Bitdefender had such an option, but they have gotten rid of that, or hidden it deeper. I have uninstalled it. I am fairly sure that Windows Defender does not have that option either.

CJCotter @Inmatrix and everyone else, I have many programs on my computer in which I paid out the most expensive "lifetime" licenses. All of these programs continue to upgrade without requiring any more money. Inmatrix is the only company that seems to have a different definition of the word "lifetime".
Beginning with version 12, Zoom Player Pro designed in a nag screen at startup, to pay out more money for an upgrade, even though I had already paid for a “lifetime” license.
Inmatrix then obsoleted Zoom Player Pro and created Zoom Player Max, on which my license is no good.
Though you offered me some kind of license, where would I use it? I’ve already downloaded and installed today’s GOTD offer.
