Rob User Oh dear !!
I have just downloaded a copy of Any DVD Cloner Express
Why is the GUI so messed up?
It quite clearly has major issues and looks as though it is in the earliest stages of Beta testing.
I would like to attach a screenshot to demonstrate the problem.
I cannot even shut the program down as the Close Window button is lost in the missing graphics, I have to use Ctrl Alt Delete / Task Manager to close out of the program.
This cannot be right?
I have uninstalled the Bits Du Jour download and downloaded the same program from the Program's website, but both are exactly the same indicating a major problem with the program GUI generally..
I am using Windows 7 fully updated to the latest Microsoft update.

Question : is the shelf life of the activation codes sufficient until this problem is rectified ?

VLM Constantin - Perhaps the vendor would like to carry this promotion over another day, so that s/he can clean it up a bit. No one has even had an opportunity to examine the encryption-handling capabilities, because the whole conversation has been about (presumably) quick-fix glitches. Just a thought.

User1 No response from the vendor?

With nothing else to go on, perhaps this is the kind of support this vendor provides.
Too bad because "Any DVD" used to make a good (different ) good product.

michael vanier Going to the companies website, they claim that both Tucows , and CNET ,give them high rankings ( "5-star editors pick from CNET." ) Going to both CNET AND Tucows websites , I find...................Nothing.At all.Nada.zip.zilch.NO mention whatsoever,of this software. This , coupled with the fact, that I cannot find any consumer reviews online, gives me pause to wonder, before even downloading and installing. Also,as a cloner, what are it's ripping / de-encryption abilities ??....Scant mention is made as to precisely what it's capabilities are ,in this arena,at their website.Would love to hear good news , but my curiosity is piqued..........And yeah,I remember when "Any DVD" was a good product. Is this even the same company ????

So the name happens to be similar, but that's it. That explains a lot.
Slysoft makes a good product.

This? Well, according to the early posts this has problems.
The vendor has not come on the support his product.
Just not worth the time or effort.

Maggie User Good morning All

Just downloaded the DVD Cloner Express and IT'S FREE . Although I do have other programs that I have paid for and continue to pay for up grades periodically I'm always on the look out for new programs. I just tried the FREE DVD Cloner and the quality of the finished product is not bad, I guess the programs that you can pay for in the DVD Cloner repertoire might meet your rigorous demands for quality so maybe give one of them a try instead of complaining about a product given to you to try for free. I have tried the Slysoft program which is very expensive and left some nasty Trojans in my computer ; so go for it.

Thank you BisDujour

Ron Cavin Downloaded, installed, registered, no problem,...BUT:
The UI is totally useless! It opens in a small non-resizable square that is cut off on all sides so that the normal Windows-style upper right corner controls (the -, X, and square) are cut off, the two tabs for cloning "full dvd" or "main movie only" do nothing. I'm glad this was free otherwise I'd be really pissed at the waste of time downloading and installing a software that does nothing at all. Or is it really software? Maybe it's just a cute little picture of what the UI might look like if it really existed.
I admit I was fooled by the registration name: "dvdsmith", I have had some earlier software by dvdsmith that worked very well, and I wanted to believe this was made by the same company.
Far too many issues with BduJ's offerings in recent months, don't waste your time on this one.

Jason Carver I'm not really sure about "Maggie User" comments since they just signed up to comment today. Either it's a shill for the company or I have no idea what's going on. In regards to their comments AnyDVD is not a malicious program. It depends on what security software is installed on the users computer. I've used that particular software many of times and I feel that it's one of the more superior backup solutions out there. Having said that, the reason why I like this particular software is because it's light in file size and it only offers two options. Main Movie or Full Disc. I am aware that there are people out there who may want to just have portions of a movie on their hard drive but your expensive blank disks are too expensive for that project. In that case, find a DVD Ripping solution for this case and reduce the file size so it's sufficient. Had no problems installing this on Windows 7 32 bit. Does work as intended.

It's Me Again Installed this on my Win7 64-bit Desktop yesterday and had same UI issue as others. I was able to register, although the "?" to get to "Help/Enter License Code" is not really intuitive.
Today I installed on my Win7 32-bit Laptop and the UI showed up properly. Note: From this I was able to see that there is enough of the UI visible in the 64-bit install to make the program usable if you ONLY want to copy to another disk. However, by selecting the "Input" drop down menu and hitting TAB (Once), I was able to use the mouse scroll wheel to get the Folder Selector to pop-up (scroll both up and down) so I could select a folder for a "Copy to DVD Folder".
The "Fine Print" says "Each license allows installation on all owned computers," & "Email license activation is required with a hardware footprint, and unlimited installations per footprint." These statements appear to conflict, but I had no problem registering the second install.
"Copy to DVD Folder" worked for both 32-bit and 64-bit. Both played well with VLC Media Player.
Look under the window Minimize button and find the underlined "Pr". This is all the 64-bit version shows of the word Preferences but it will take you there.

Maggie User hey fellow Bit Dujour users it's me Maggie and no I am not a shill whatever that is just a software user. I have an AMD FX 8150 8 Core with 8 GB Ram 64 Bit running Windows 8.1 and I have not had any of the problems that some of the Users have had. As I said the program results are probably as good as Wondershare but not as good as some other programs I have tried. But maybe some don't have enough stuff in their computer to run the program properly. Just sayn. THE END

Rex Leglifter Installed Win 7 64 bit vers., tested program on the movie "Frozen", it took a long time to render the movie. The movie will not play in my DVD player but will on the computer if I click on and play the VOB file. with "VLC media player". So I used CDBurnerXP to turn the VOB files into a DVD that will work in my standalone DVD player (played fine start to end). So... yes I could make it work but glad it's Free today or I would have been disappointed spending $$ on the current Vers., hopefully the vender will make some helpful comments soon.

michael vanier Based upon comments by people who have attempted to install, rather than installing this, I would suggest: DVD FAB HD Decrypter, AnyDVD by Slysoft,Or Ideal DVD Copy.I suggest these three, because I have had hands-on experience with all three, particularly Fab. Fab and Ideal are updated on a highly regular basis, as is often needed for software like this, what with changing encryption schemes. As other people have noted, this software sounds like a Buggy Beta, with a buggy, half-functional User Interface.Of course, this is just my opinion,I could be wrong.Granted, this is a free product, but I think the software developer would be better served to put a... more polished, functional product on this Give Away, for a better foot forward for PR...IMHO.And I never had ANY " Nasty Trojans From Slysoft"----ROFLMFAO.

David User I have not tried the product yet - however, I did not have any issues downloading it. The user interface came up fine without any issues on WIndows 7 64 bit. I did not experience any of the UI issues others discussed above. Registration was very easy and without any issues at all - in fact, it went easier than most giveaway of the day freebies. Hopefully the program runs as easily as it has to download and register.

SKY I installed this sw from vendor's download link, and had the same issues of cut-off UI like many other users. I uninstalled it without bothering any longer, as MANY things seemed fishy to me with this software/company. First using names of not just one but two other known software companies (Any DVD and DVDSmith) and then this Terry Lee (Chinese name) and Maggie User (frequent Chinese name) popping up suddenly to tell lies about the product, and taking a cheap shot at the competing AND better product, shows that support (where are they, anyhow?) cannot defend or improve their product and thus they try to make it passable only through lies using fake names. None of this instills trust in the product nor it's vendor/author. BdJ is better than this. They should ban this vendor for using their site to distribute such a product. PS: If Maggie talks about trojans, I now also suspect that this rip-off product is maybe only a spyware, used to install trojans into our systems, like the CompactHelper files or YTOOLS.exe files from some other Chinese video softwares like Leawo and Wonderfox/share, etc. I think I will do a deep cleaning now.

Maggie User Hey folks
I don't usually post for the products I have tried ; I have been receiving email notifications from BitsDuJour for quite some time. Some products of interest to me have worked out great some have not but the fact that they're free is telling me the Software company is looking to work out the bugs. But when I saw the ungrateful and down right obnoxious comments posted I had to throw my 2 cents in ; so no I am not Chinese, Scottish all the way, I am not a shill, just someone who takes offence to ungrateful people.
So once again thank you BitsDuJour and really I don't know why you put up with the abuse.

Rob User Well people the UI issues appear to have a fix.
Despite the comments distrusting the supplier of this software, I have a polite reply to my Support ticket which reads as follows:-

Thank you for your support to DVDSmith.
Please right-click on the Desktop, click Personalize, click Display, and then check 100%(default) option.
Any other problems, please contact us.
Regards,
Jessica Jie - DVDSmith Support Team

I have done as suggested and, despite having to re-arrange my desktop as the change threw all my desktop icons into a Grid arrangement, at least the full GUI for Any DVD Cloner Express is visible and appears to work fine.

This would answer why some of us had no issue with the UI and others did.

My Desktop was set on 125% and not 100% as required by this software.

A free deal for normally paid-for licences is always a bonus so thank you Bits Du Jour for arranging this.

All works as well!
Jan 26 2015 at 4:25am Copy Link

Rob User Hi Terry Lee, The fault is if you set display settings differently to 100%. As in my post above. If the problem exists, you right-click on Desktop/Personalize/Display and set to 100% - Any other setting makes the Any DVD Cloner Express UI display only partially, rendering it virtually unusable - Caught me and a few others out - Your desktop settings were obviously set to 100% so you had no issue with the UI displaying correctly.

Terry Lee http://i57.tinypic.com/nbam8n.jpg Well Rob, This is enough for me! I've 24" screen and I do not need to see it any larger! I wonder Why it should to be seen in whole screen?
Jan 26 2015 at 4:42am Copy Link
1
Rob User Hi Terry, no I'm not wishing to see the UI in a whole screen display, those who set their display to anything other than 100% in the right-click settings as above, do not see the UI like you see it.

We were only seeing about 2 thirds of the UI you see, meaning that you cannot close the window in the usual way clicking on the 'X' as it is not visible, plus other commands that could not be seen.

It's the first time I have ever known a program require a specific display setting like this, especially when there is not a full screen option within the program itself, only a small screen option like the one you have posted. Main thing is the fix is simple and we can all use the program properly now which is why I posted the fix for those with display settings set differently to 100%.

VLM Speaking as a visually impaired person who MUST use a setting greater than 100%, this is a defect in the program. For any PROGRAM to require a specific SYSTEM setting like that is out of bounds. Hopefully, the vendor will fix this defect in a future release.
Jan 26 2015 at 8:43am Copy Link

User1 @ VLM You are absolutely correct. The software is clearly a beta tester that must be fixed to be considered viable software. The default price of $30 is a joke, and I hope no one was duped into paying for it. (The very good Digiarty software, sometimes free on bdj, performs the same function.)
@ Rob User, glad you found that this software is incompatible with routine screen scaling, and that we don't have to buy old 8-core processors to make it work. Such decoding utilities on Win 10/ 8.1 should run on a modern power efficient dual core / 2gb.
