Dealing with device drivers is probably one of the most annoying parts of our personal computing lives. Finding them, keeping them up-to-date, moving them between systems, deleting them without destroying critical Windows functions... what a pain!

Driver Magician offers a professional solution for backing up, restoring, updating, and safely removing device drivers. It identifies all the hardware on your system, extracts the associated drivers from your hard disk, and then backs them up to a location of your choice. Then, when you format and reinstall/upgrade your operating system, you can restore all the "saved" drivers just as if you had the original driver diskettes right in your hands. After just one system reboot, your PC will be loaded and running with the all the required hardware drivers.

What's more, Driver Magician has a built-in database of the latest drivers, and can quickly search the Internet to track down the most recent driver updates.

Rick F I have been using Perfect Updater do to the same tasks as Driver Magician on two of my computers but as of the last 8--9 months, haven't been able to trust it. It automatically downloads incorrect drivers making the computer totally unbootable and in one instance i had to do a total clean install in order to get it back up and running. Their customer service individual wanted me to replicate the crash in order to read the error logs but I just don't have time for restoring my computer in such a way.

What would Driver Magician do if this occurred and how often do you receive calls of this nature?

Dennis Johnson Your web site states, "FREE upgrades". Most software of this nature I've looked at is good for 1 year. What does your FREE upgrades means?

barney Barnes Licensed per machine.
Transfer of license not allowed.
So, I buy a replacement computer, I have to buy new copy of the software. No, thanks.

Dennis Johnson Nice find, barney Barnes. I tend to burn through hard drives. So while I'd still have the same computer, I wouldn't have the same machine later. :(

dale Geyer I have to agree with Dennis & Barney-what good is your software if you cant reinstall it! I have to use default restore 3 times in the past year, all of my licensed software have been installed on all occasions with no hassle!

Rick F Is anyone from the company managing these questions? Kind of gives you reason to question how support will be if sales support is non-existent;
doesn't it?

Steven Avery Hi,

Driver Magician has a bit of a history on these install and restore issues.

e.g. in 2009

Caveat emptor.

In general I think it is a good idea to have a driver backup program, so that your screen and Ethernet and other drivers are easily available on a reinstall, and there should be no charge to bring those drivers back from an external source.

As for automated update of drivers, it is a dubious idea anyway.
