Bob S I have 2 old laptops and a desktop that I'd like to give away, but haven't had time to permanently delete files and other confidential info. Two questions:
1. Can East-Tec be used to quickly delete the contents of entire folders? e.g., My Documents
2. Can East-Tec be used on more than 1 PC? or do I have to purchase a copy for each of the PCs from which I wish to delete info.

S B East-Tec Eraser has been well reviewed or mentioned on both application and security sites and in security forums for its ability to clear files and the various traces of previous activities. This is fortunate because East-Tec seems to say little about what their product actually does. When security is concerned, "trust us with the benefits" doesn't cut it.

Eraser 2009 apparently has features that go beyond those of the popular Window Washer, though I cannot find several important features (e.g., wiping slack space and destroying old filenames) directly mentioned on their website (and what is that gratuitous list of files in their first screenshot?). Further, in the absense of real information from East-Tec, it is probably true that many of their security claims may just be that the product can overwrite files many times in various ways.

The company has been around for years. In the past, the company apparently responded to criticisms (about its arrogantly wiping things without first telling the user what it was going to wipe) directly by improving the product and providing the missing information (or making it available) before wiping.

For me, even with Bob's important questions not yet answered, this is an opportunit to purchase a very good product (from what others have said) at a great discount. It does look like a winner.

(Nonetheless, always be careful about what you do with your computer!)

George Pecherle First of all, we would like to apologize for the delay in answering the questions above.

Regarding the questions from Bob S:

1. Yes, you can securely destroy the contents of entire folders. Just open East-Tec Eraser 2009 and from the main interface, click Add Files & Folders, and then Add Folders.

2. You have to purchase one copy for each of the computers where you want to wipe information from.
