What are people saying about PDF Pro

LU 2 questions so far.

1. Converting to PDF, you software allows hyperlinks. But in what form do they need to be? For example, do they need to be written out as: http://www.lifetimeupgrades.com or can it be written as a hidden hyperlink such as: Lifetime Upgrades . Where as all the person sees is Lifetime Upgrades and no the hyperlink.

Stefan Hauber One computer allowed only is not so nice; free upgrades for life is great.

1) What if my current computer is exchanged by another one? Is there a un-activate option? What if it gets defect and this un-activation can't be executed?

2) Is it possible to insert a pagebreak, so that all following pages are reformated?

I don't follow your question. Please elaborate?

PDF Pro 10 @ Lifetime Upgrades: Assuming you are converting a Word document with embedded links (for example), a person would see Lifetime Upgrades and not the hyperlink.

If you are looking to insert a hyperlink into an existing PDF file, this is also possible. You have to highlight an area in a PDF file and link it to a page, another file or a hyperlink. Specific instructions are available in the attached help file with the program, but feel free to ping me with more questions.

PDF Pro 10 @ Stefan: regarding #1, we will happily give you another license key if you switch computers and cannot re-install PDF Pro 10. One license key should allow for at least 3 installs. We have done this in the past without any issues.

Regarding #2, you can install a blank page between 2 pages, but we do not have a page break feature.

I hope this helps!

LU This is a feature I have only seen in Adobe Acrobat. But you are sure you understand what I am asking.

If I import a file from say Microsoft Word and inside the file, I have Lifetime Upgrades but it is a hyperlink, you software will import it automatically and I will not need to go in and add it manually? Is this correct.

I ask, because I wasn't able to with the trial.

Also, on your webpages, I see you have Video in the features section but it isn't checked. Is this planned in the near future?

Same goes for OCR?

PDF Pro 10 This is correct, I just tried it myself with the full version of the software. I authored a Word document with the link: www.lifetimeupgrades.com and then used PDF Pro 10 to convert the Word file into a PDF. I then uploaded the file on a public website so that you can see it (this is the end product):

PDF Pro 10 Regarding your second point, Video is in the product development pipeline. We plan to offer OCR as an upsell shortly. Hope this helps!

LU Thank you Julie for the replies.

I now believe you are not understanding my 1st question.

I just want the words "Lifetime Upgrades" to be imported and have the hyperlink inside it hidden. Just so the person sees the words and not the address.

I see it can be done manually but can it be imported like that?

qmyg jhwp @Roger Thomasson

I was asking about the 75% discount - as yesterday this site:

http://sites.fastspring.c...id=1057918

Already had it reduced without going through Bits DuJour

However - I see the site has suddenly increased the price to $99.95 again.

PDF Pro 10 @ Lifetime Upgrades: I don't think it can be imported the way you want it. I'm fairly certain a user would always see the hyperlink. Sorry for the confusion - I didn't fully understand your question the first time.

Mike Murphy "I just want the words "Lifetime Upgrades" to be imported and have the hyperlink inside it hidden. Just so the person sees the words and not the address. "

I just created a word document and put Life Time Updates and created a hyperlink from it in Word 2010 and when creating the pdf file, it shows Life Time Updates in the document and the hyperlink does work, so I would say Yes is the answer to your question. It creates the pdf file exactly as I had it in word.

LU Hello Julie

I have tried your software and find it very useful. The interface is very clean and easy to maneuver.

It easily imported a saved html file but without the hyperlinks. The import was impressive but still wish it wen above and beyond other PDFs by importing the hyperlinks.

I also liked how the import was made recognizing the text and I was able to easily select the text to make edits.

Lot's of great potential to this PDF software.

Stephen Kreyling I like the editing of text, its similar to the plugin pitstop that I use in acrobat. Tim Berger I tried out the trial and editing text is great, but moving or re-sizing images doesn't work. The images disappear if you move them from outside the box they appear to be in. Tim Berger I figured out the issue and just bought a copy of it! This has to be the best PDF editor around. I've played with a bunch of other editors including Acrobat X, Nitro, Foxit and this is sooo much better. The solution to my problem was that some images are enclosed by another block that's invisible. You have to expand that block so you can expand the images. It would be great if you could show ALL the blocks (the grid). Also, rotating images would be great too! However, even without those features, this is an awesome product at at steal of a price!

Software Marketing Ltd. is a company that specializes in the promotion and sales of high-quality software titles. This company is out of Hong Kong but does not list a website only an address, this is 2011 and just about evetyone on the web has a website associated with their business. I find this very odd and questionable.

Rick Truell Julie Cooper: "What specifically turns you off in the product activation process?"

I can't speak specifically for Markus, but in general, what bothers the BdJ users are these lines from the policy tab: "Online license activation is required with a hardware footprint, and 1 installation per footprint." and "Transfer of a license to another owned computer is not allowed". What this boils down to is extremely restrictive DRM, and you'll quickly find out that BdJ users UNCONDITIONALLY DESPISE any kind of DRM! If you check the forum, you'll find at least two topics (http://www.bitsdujour.com/view/id=17465/ and http://www.bitsdujour.com/view/id=15778/ ) that discuss just how much, and why, we hate it.

Please note: if you wish to further discuss this topic with BdJ users, please start a new topic in the forum regarding PDF Pro 10 and DRM. The subject of DRM is such a hot, button-pressing topic that Roger and Nico have, rightfully, banned it in these product-specific comment sections. Hopefully they'll allow *this* comment to survive :-)

Husker Tech How is an application developer to recover his or her development costs when individuals insist on installing software on multiple machines. Every BDJ merchant that I have dealt with has been more than willing to back up their software during reinstallations - even on different machines. Nonetheless, it would be nice to be able to install PDF Pro 10 on two home PC's (e.g., desktop, laptop).

That said, I will probably have to pass on PDF Pro 10 at this time. While it's editing features are robust compared to other PDF software that I have used, I just cant get used to "ribbons" (okay call me old fashioned) - and as a result I've been unable figure out how to convert a scan to a PDF. I will try to catch it the next time it comes around on BDJ. Thanks.

PDF Pro 10 Hi Rick & Markus,

Thank you for the feedback. Concerning the restricted usage of PDF Pro 10, we have certain components of our program that are licensed from other software developers, which makes it extrememly difficult for us to use different terminology when writing the end user license agreement, and unfortunately, there is not much leigh-way in terms of what we can do with that regard for now.

Harlan, concerning the ribbon interface, your feedback is duely noted. It seems that some people love it, while others really could do without it. PDF Pro 10 can create a PDF file from the scanner by pressing 'create PDF' and then clicking the scan button. We have not yet integrated an OCR into the software, so stay tuned!

J S Dear Julie,

Regarding your initial comment (Software Marketing Ltd Vendor - Dec 24 2011 at 4:28am) about searchable/editable text:

Q1. is there any plan to add a SEARCHable text function into future versions of this program?
__________

Onto another matter raised in the recent promotion, because it was the one concern that stopped me buying PDF Pro 10 (because I really liked the program trial I tested):

I do have something to suggest about the whole online activation matter:

Now I understand that your current licensing is only reflecting the conditions that Your company is being held too by others, BUT your mention of the following quote [found in the first paragraph of the Your comment/reply: Software Marketing Ltd Vendor - Dec 24 2011 at 11:45pm]: "..., there is not much leigh-way in terms of what we can do with that regard for now." made me think long and hard about what possibilities if any could be.

Currently many Bitsduour followers favour NO online activation OR if forced to do such a thing they prefer at least a hardware footprint that allows for 2 computers (for example 1x desktop & 1x notebook).

With these restrictions in mind MAY I PROFFER A SUGGESTION that may suit both Your company (as only 1 computer can use the program at any given time) and the anti-online activation camp, which is based on a license control method favoured by a different Bitsdujour vendor who has many many fans of their program & methods:

My suggestion is a ''similar'' Licensing arrangement to that which "MAXA Research Int'l Inc" offers with their Maxa Cookie Manager [found on Bitsdujour at: http://www.bitsdujour.com...e-manager/] whereby the user can choose too go online and then uninstall the license from one computer (thus making that computer's PDF Pro 10 inoperable) and choose to install the very same license onto a different computer and so on,

That way PDF Pro 10 can never be used on more than 1 computer at any given point in time BUT a single PDF Pro 10 license holder who owns both a desktop and notebook computer(s) can still have the program installed on both computers but may only use PDF Pro 10 on only 1 computer at a time.

Now I say "similar" because MAXA currently allow 2 licenses per product, but I could see their online license transfer method being modified to a "1 easily transferred license" per product.
__________

Personally "online activation" smacks of 'big brother' to me, but back when I only owned a single Maxa Cookie Manager License I found their online license activation & transfer method quick and simple to use, and if such a method was employed on PDF Pro 10 and or future versions of the program, then I would be very happy to buy the program.

PDF Pro 10 Hi JS,

Thank you for your suggestion. Currently the marketing team has asked for OCR for some time, but it is something that we're having a bit of trouble getting right, so until we do, there is no actual date for the moment when we will be launching this feature.

Concerning the license activation, it is currently handled by Avanquest, so although I do like the idea, I probably will not get that changed. I have forwarded your idea to the people who make the decision though!

Thanks again!

VLM Trial has been downloaded. But no time to look at it for a few days, ergo the question. Thanks for the response. Now then, the following information presented in the BDJ Policy tab, taken together, is clearly absurd:
_____
Transfer of a license to another owned computer is not allowed.

Online license activation is required with a hardware footprint, and 1 installation per footprint. what's this?

Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for the lifetime of the product.
_____
First, what use is a lifetime license if one cannot get a new computer!!! ??? I do see your response to Marco, above ... and it's been all day with no update to the Policy tab. My issue is this ... this page provides a point of reference for the future. Therefore, it should be accurate. Perhaps someone would consider making it so.

Second, what use is one installation per footprint, OS reinstallations will occur as long as Windows exists!!! I'm about to do one this summer.

I have purchased a license for our congregation, assuming that you don't mean anything remotely like what the Policy tab says. And ... I request clarification as you deem fit.

Saving the PDF files with the watermark and a 14-day trial are the main components of the trial version of PDF Pro 10.

"Hoi vendor ,Not really clear, too much interpretation possibility :-)

Is this PDF Pro a Liftime Free license upgrades? Yes or no?"

The license works forever, and some bugs get fixed. It is not a free upgrade to new version releases.

What is interesting about your product is the nice user interface with features brought together and the FORMS part of the application. However, there is no information on the functionality/feature set of FORMS either on your demo-video or on your website. Please explain the capability of working with forms.

Danny Okay, I have understood it, only minor updates until the next new version.

But I can read anywhere about upgrade discount. It is hopefully as if there's a new version later plays that the possessors of an upgrading a license discount price, right?

Just a pity for the difficult license policy (not robust), hopefully there also comes a change in.

Software Geek I just purchased this, one thing whenever I try to add a note it will lock up and give me memory address write error loop that I cant get out of. This only seems to happen if you havent saved the document before you create a note but the only way out of it is to kill the process once it starts throwing up errors.

PDF Pro 10 @Danny - Correct - there's an upgrade discount. Sorry about the licensing policy. Today we get around this issue by giving out more licensing through our customer service team. We're working on creating a more robust license policy.

@Software - Thanks for the note - we will add it to our bug list.

RCG I purchased this a couple of years ago when it was a lifetime licence. It is a very good program and the service is second to none. However,I don't think I have ever seen an update in that time so it is certainly not developed in the same way as is nitro pdf. However, it does what it does very well. It would be nice to hear from the developer whether there are further updates planned for the near future. I thoroughly recommend this product for the price point.

Mark Johnson I see there have been no updates to this software since 2011. I currently use PDF-Xchange pro, but have also used Nitro and a couple of other competitors of yours. I see fairly frequent updates to the competitive products. Why is this product not being updated, and how does it compare to these other products?

Thanks,
Mark.

MIGUEL CASTANUELA "Transfer of a license to another owned computer is not allowed."

This clause is a serious limitation, what about when the original PC / laptop dies (or a new one is acquired)? must be a way to resolve this limitation, in order to: a) deinstall in the original b) install on the new one.
Any comment to the respect?

That would not be a problem. Simply contact the service department, it is in order. This way of working to prevent piracy and abuse they do!

HJ B Here it is, on for a second day, and the company has not been providing responses to posted questions.

I downloaded the program and found not menu or button that will initiate scanning or OCR. The documentation makes passing references to both, but they appear to be left-over references to functionality that never made it into the program.

Producers of pdf creation software often simply ignore the subject of what their software cannot do. OCR is at the top of the silence list, followed by interface to scanners, lack of spell check and non-preservation of format.

PDF Pro 10 Hi guys, appologies for being offline for a bit. Here are some of the answers to your questions:

RCG: We have updated the interface last year and have added a few minor features this year. The most exciting one is that you can bring forward/backward different elements within your PDF file, like a Powerpoint file. Apart from that, many little bug fixes and an improved user interface have also been developped.

Mark Johnson: Please see my comment above. We tend to be priced lower, and have fewer updates. That being said, for a lot of people our software does the trick. Our zendesk customer service rating score is 82%, which is pretty close to that of many of our competitors, but at a fraction of their price:
http://www.pdfpro10.com/reviews.html

HJB: no ocr functionality for now. We developped the feature, but there are currently too many bugs to release. Stay tuned!

Danny Thys: Please see my first reply.

Miguel: If you have any trouble with the license, please contact customer support. We typically respond within 1-2 business days, and will sort out any licensing issues that you may have. We typically enforce the 1 license per user policy, not the 1 license per machine... The policy has more to do with how our license management system has been built, and less with what we consider a user.

VLM: There are ways (not the easiest ways) to use PDFmarks and PostScript, but you need to use a commandline prompt, and are therefore not all that userfriendly. Also, we do not have any formal documentation to support you with those functionalities. I would suggest you play around with the trial.

Thanks guys for all of the valuable feedback! You guys rock! If you have any other ideas for feature requests, you can email them directly to me at jcooperpdfpro10.com

Logging off for now, I will check at the end of the day!

PDF Pro 10 Danny: the license works forever, and bug fixes are automatically updated. We do not offer a free upgrade to pro, and we do not currently do email marketing. However, when we release a new version of PDF Pro 10, we typically can upgrade existing customers, but you would need to contact customer support.

Husker Tech Julie,
It would be nice if your website listed the changes in PDF Pro 10 from Version 10.4 in 2011 to Version 10.8 in 2013. The 18 MB in difference in the installation file’s size would suggest a lot of changes. Unfortunately, the application’s name, PDF Pro 10, staying the same leads people to think that there have been no revisions.

Incidentally, are there any plans to include a Scan to PDF feature in upcoming revisions? Thanks.

Emil Kucera Hello, I just purchased the software, installed on the laptop ok but when trying to activate on the desktop, I receive

Yet your fine print here says that I can install on one of each. What gives?

Dippy Dawg Julie,
I agree with HJ B... I found no menu or button that will initiate scanning to create a PDF. It lacks a interface to scanners. I purchase this yesterday but due to several things that concern me I will have to request a refund. If you go to the help in PDF Pro 10 and search "scan" it references a scan button to create a PDF from scanner, there is no button in your interface. I did notice also that in the help it references "Avanquest" in a few places. I noticed Avanquest Expert PDF 8 has Scan to PDF and OCR.

Another interesting thing I noticed was several files show the company name as "visagesoft" which also has a product called Expert PDF and the interface is almost identical to Avanquest and PDF Pro 10. Even the some of the files in Avanquest Expert PDF show "visagesoft" as the company. This leads me to believe that visagesoft is the actual creator of this program and has licensed it to Avanquest and/or PDF Pro 10. As far as I can tell PDF Pro 10 is just a rebadged version of Expert PDF 7, therefore no scan to PDF or OCR options.... Download a copy of Visagesoft Expert PDF 7 trial and check out the interface and compare it to PDF Pro 10 and make your own decision. Go to Visagesoft website and then Home support and then Expert PDF archived downloads to download version 7.

PDF Pro 10 in it current state is a good PDF program for the price Bitsdujour is offering it today for. One major feature that is not in the current version is "scan to PDF".

Julie how do I request a refund for my purchase yesterday?
Thanks.....

PDF Pro 10 Harlan: Noted. I will notify our web team to make a a page that outlines the updates that have been available in each revision.

Emil: Please contact customer support, they should resole your issue quickly: https://pdfpro10.zendesk....quests/new

Greg: Most of the technology used inside PDF Pro 10 coomes from Avanquest. We chose to remove the scan tool because it was too buggy, and we are waiting to have a more stable version of this feature before we release it. For any customer service requests, please see my reply to Emil.

Stephen: Please send a support request and we will see what we can do.

Emil Kucera Oh yeah? I just received a response from Annalissa Chan. which ironically says "Your request (#4958) has been solved" and continues to quote at me that

"On the fine print it states PDF Pro 10 is licensed per computer, and not per user and each license allows installation on a single computer and a laptop, but PDF Pro 10 may not be used at exactly the same time on each of them"

I believe that "on a single computer AND a laptop" = two machines;
Of course I would not use them both at the same time why would I ?
If your interpretation is different, please let me know quickly and I shall uninstall and claim my money back.

PDF Pro 10 Hi Emil,

I just had a chat with with Anna, I think she sent you an additional license since you are the same user. Please see my reply above, our license management system is not all that great, which is why we cannot issue the same license for multiple machines.
