Does this sound familiar?

Your PC is slowing down. Programs don't run as fast as they used to. It takes longer for good ol' Windows to boot up in the morning and takes forever for it to shut down. Crashes and hangs seem to be cropping up more and more often. And deep down inside, you know that there are more file fragments and incomplete deletions than there are rats in the New York City subway tunnels.

You might not want to believe it, but it's true. Your PC needs to be tuned even more often than your car does. Files become fragmented, disk caches fill up, the Windows Registry gets disorganized and, before you know it, your PC starts letting you down when you need it the most.

System Cleaner makes short work of all those PC headaches that bog your system down and put your data at risk.

Rex As I was installing the software, I received this Application Error: Exception EFCreateError in module rtl170.bpl at 000F8BB6. Caanot create file "C:\Pointstone\SystemCleaner\RescueCenter.xml". The system cannot find the path specified.

I, then, uninstalled it, completely removing every little bit from my registry as well. Next, I went to Pointstone website and downloaded it from them. Received the same error message.

Windows 8 Home. 64 Bit.

What's my next move?

Catherine McClarey I just downloaded & installed System Cleaner 7 this morning, and was immediately prompted to install an update when I first ran the product. After installing the update, I attempted to follow the instructions to unlock the full version; however, "Unlock System Cleaner 7" was missing from the "Help" drop-down menu where the instructions said it would be.
I wonder if I must have gotten this originally from an earlier BDJ promotion? The "About" screen shows that I have a 3-PC license as of 4 August 2012 - maybe that's why "Unlock System Cleaner 7" isn't showing up in the Help menu?
(I did also submit a support ticket to Pointstone this morning about this, before I noticed the details in the "About" screen.)

Steven Avery Hi,

A rather extensive suite of programs, although many of us prefer to take each one individually.

"scan for issues on your PC and repair them in a single action. ...repairing registry errors"

Let me make a strong warning not to repair registry "errors" in a "single action".

Cary Adams Got this last summer... Seriously buggy. System Restore saved my tush. Hopefully v7 is *much* improved. I'll let y'all experience it before I try again. FWIW, it would be wise to create a restore point before installing.

Joe M Back last December I paid $8.95 to upgrade to an improved version 7 from the free version buggy version 6 that I got here BDJ a few months before. Are you planning this again for a new version 8 that may be just around the corner?
Mar 25 2013 at 8:55am Copy Link
0
Steven Martins @Joe McCormick Have you found any issues with version 7? We plan on releasing version 8 in a few months, but this giveaway includes 6 months of free updates and upgrades so you'll be covered for any new versions released within 6 months.

Steven Martins @Cary Adams Thanks for you feedback. System Cleaner 7 asks if you wish to create a restore point when you first start it. The issues you experienced with version 6 were unfortunate and we believe we fixed all issues in the weeks after the last giveaway.

Tom Macomber This is not the full version, when I open the program it says "upgrade to full version." Also, this license is for 185 days only, after that you will need a new license key.

Steven Martins @Steven Avery Thanks for your feedback. The quote you mentioned indicates that you can run a system scan for a variety of issues and fix them all in one go. You can of course, de-select the registry cleaner module or unselect any issues found you don't wish to fix.

Yes the reason why you don't see the "Unlock System Cleaner" is because it's already licensed with the key your received on the previous giveaway. If you prefer to use the new key, we can send over a way to remove the existing registration.

The key provided here is for the full version and you get 6 months of free updates and upgrades. The software will continue registered after 6 months. If you wish to continue receiving new updates after 6 months you can renew, but again, the software will *never* expire and it's fully registered with the key provide through this giveaway.

Catherine McClarey @Steven Martins, as long as the key from the previous giveaway still works, I'm OK with it. If the version 8 upgrade isn't covered by the original key, I may get back in touch w/Pointstone at that point, but there's certainly no rush right now. Thanks for clarifying this issue!

Ron Cavin Downloaded, installed, registered with no problem.
Ran a scan, selected 36 junk files to repair, clicked "repair".
Screen appeared indicating 36 problems selected, and what appeared to be a progress bar, but no progress indicated, bar remained empty.
After waiting 30 minutes, there was no change in the information displayed, nothing appeared in the progress bar, in fact there was no indication that anything was happening at all.
Attempted to close the program with no luck. Attempted to use online Help, or the "contact us - report an issue" buttons, still no luck, buttons also frozen.
Program would not close, none of my other utilities were available to me because my entire pc froze. Windows Task Manager not launch-able, had to reboot to stop System Cleaner and regain control of my pc.
Unless Pointstone can provide an immediate solution, my opinion is that this software is a useless waste of time, and possibly dangerous for inexperienced users to install and run.
I sent an email to Pointstone support about five hours ago but have received no response beyond the standard auto-reply: "we'll get back to you".
FYI: I am not an inexperienced newbie, I've been working with and maintaining computers since Windows 3.1 and feel I'm reasonably knowledgeable and competent. When a program or app freezes, refuses all efforts to close, and can be stopped only by shutting down the system, that, to me, is a badly flawed program.

Michael Paul It is with amusement that I read the report of Ron Cavin and other commentators. I tried the trial version in anticipation of this giveaway. It found "errors" by the thousands but wouldn't proceed to repair unless I upgraded to the full version. This is a trial? I need to pay for it first to find out it doesn't work? Frankly, I think these types of software exaggerate "errors" in trial versions to prompt you to upgrade. That is business. The windows operating system comes with all kinds of system tools and utilities to take care of system maintenance. And they suffice. Besides, what pc doesn't have "errors". As long as a pc works normally let it alone. Don't fix what ain't broke.

Scott Van Leeuwen With thousands upon thousand of entries in the registry, all these types of software have to do is delete the wrong one and your system may need to be re-installed. I found that out with Iolo's System Mechanic. It deleted a key that stopped my media player from streaming. I could find no information on the internet nor could Iolo tech support help.

This software worked pretty much the same. When I did a disk check it scanned all my hard drives, although I thought I only check it for drive C. I think I'll steer clear and if my system has a hiccup, then I'll try it.

You can run each individual utility to configure what areas of your PC you want to scan.
Also, all changes made by System Cleaner are saved as a backup, which can be restored if needed (I don't know if System Mechanic has this feature).
Finally, if you find that our software is deleting any entry incorrectly (which is highly unlikely), simply contact us and we'll analyze and if needed issue an update to address your specific issues.

The unlicensed version can be used for free and does allow to repair errors found, 100 at a time.

You don't need to pay anything with this giveaway to convert the software into the full version.

Thanks for your response, Mr. Martins. I will give System Cleaner a fair trial. Your point about your software not exaggerating the errors found is well taken. But I have known a similar software to find billions of issues with a pc just out of the box only a couple of hours. To clarify, I don't have an issue with paying for software that is both good and useful. I am currently using trial versions of BDJ software that I intend to purchase later because they are both good and useful. I will even "pay" (make a donation) for free software that is both good and useful. Money may be a mirage but it does make the world go around.

Jan Fisher I have attempted 3-4 times to get the free Cleaner 7 from Pointstone, for my second computer. I keep getting the message that I have already ordered and it won't allow me to order the second time. I attempted to resend the first order, with the order #pfNruj, but I still can not download the software for the second computer and my time is expiring. I am finding it very difficult to successfully order from this company. There is very little assistance when there is a problem. I also attempted to order Telist, but could not register, after downloading and installing and I informed you of this over and over. Am I going to receive any assistance in downloading the Cleaner 7, for my second computer, before the deadline expires this time? If not, then I will give up on any future orders with your company.
Thanks for any assistance you might offer that would allow me to finalize the cleaner 7 for my laptop.

The license key you received is valid for up to 3 PCs, and you just need to install System Cleaner on your other computer(s), and use the same license on all of them.

Also, the license key does not require to be activated during the giveaway, you can use it during the next 6 months to activate the software on up to 3 PCs.

john silver Lots of fireworks here and just want to point out that one particular piece of software, like this being offered for FREE here that I have used previously without any trouble ALSO upon initial install will give literally thousands of fixes the 1st time one runs a "deep scan" in windows 7 especially and I never, ever had any issues with it in the last 2 major releases.

NP. Point was, that everyone should be keeping somewhat of an eye on the registry and security holes (examples) anyway.

Software like the one from Pointstone that has been provided here (once again.. FREE..) is the easiest way to do that.

My particulars on 1st "fireup" of System Cleaner was just 54 RE/10JF/3SO/1IO, but did have 2,445 items fragmented.

I DID run a "deep scan" previously at least a couple of times a week with another similar software had been paying for for several years and liked, but am more than willing to try this one out with a serious effort as have tried all the name branded ones before in Pro version, even the "original" to break ground in this field.

In short, or make a long winded post shorter.. It looks fine to me :-)

Franklin Hornswaggler Downloaded/Installed on a 3 year old consumer grade HP desktop. Default scan/clean started to get bogged down to the point where, out of 16,000+ items, it was fixing less than 1 per second. Granted it's free software, there is no reason why it should take greater than a second to delete a temporary internet file.

At this point, I would recommend both CCleaner and Glary rather than System Cleaner. Both are freeware and combined, have more functionality than System Cleaner. Plus they do it in much less time.
Mar 26 2013 at 12:50pm Copy Link

Steven Martins @Franklin Hornswaggler

System Cleaner does not delete temporary internet files.

The probable reason why System Cleaner is taking a long time to fix the issues found is because you may have a lot of fragmented files as these are the ones that take most time to fix.

System Cleaner isn't just a junk file cleaner, it defragments files, fixes security vulnerabilities, checks disks errors and much more.

Joe M Steven Martins. You stated "System Cleaner isn't just a junk file cleaner, it defragments files, fixes security vulnerabilities, checks disks errors and much more."

Does that mean that it is going to defrag the whole hard drive or just the defragmented files?

Tom Macomber I have installed System Cleaner on 2 of 3 computers, it works well and is comparable to Wisecare365. I like that it gives different options to speed up and safeguard my PC. Thank you for the promo and it will soon be going on computer #3.

"Does that mean that it is going to defrag the whole hard drive or just the defragmented files?"

It analyzes the fragmentation on the drives and offers to defrag fragmented files, if fragmentation is above a certain percentage.

This is not done automatically, Scan & Repair will first do a scan for the selected categories and present the search results. The user can then de-select categories or individual items if he prefers not to fix them.

I received emails for both registration key and receipt for purchase. I installed the software and tried to unlock it by pasting the key received in the email. I got a dialog box with the message " Unable to unlock..Try again" I went back to the email to copy the key but--lo and behold!--the information was no longer there. I opened up the receipt email and found the same key and copied it. But when I pasted it and clecked OK the result was the same--"Unable to unlock, etc" I opened up the receipt email and--WHAT?! The key information was gone too! I opened the emails and perrused them several times with unbelieving eyes. I never was a certain believer in the supernatural but this experience probably could convert me. What do you suppose happened?

Bob Levy I downloaded, and installed and started. I checked the progress and immediately stopped the application. I then realized there was no option to tell system sleaner what drives to scan and as a result, it would scan ALL my drives which would be more than 10 terabytes.
