Henry User The website and promotional videos are quite well done, but almost totally uninformative.

What is needed is less slick graphics and a clear statement of specifications as to what this program will do, within the context of real world situations.

Most people will have a mix of organized, semi-organized and unorganized files on their computer (not including the important, unimportant, confusing and outdated material generated by the operating systems and programs.)

In addition, people who create documents, spreadsheets and the like, may have different drafts of the same item. It s important to keep some such stuff and not other such stuff.

On the same computer there may be a mix of personal and business files. In a family situation, there may be a mix of files for each person who uses that computer.

There are some programs, such as email clients, that keep all of their data (incoming and outgoing emails and mail lists) in folders that are bound to that program. Individual emails or groups of emails may relate to a project, client or associate for which their is a document file on the computer.

Some folders have been set up with folders within folders.

Some material may be on the desktop or on the c drive or on another drive within the computer or another external drive or a network drive or on one or more cloud services.

The user may be pretty good at using some kind of naming convention so that files that are related to the same project, etc., have the same key word in the file name. The date may also be in the file name. Some users may not uniformly follow any naming convention.

It would be helpful if Ambetco would describe how and to what extent this program deals with these various aspects of files that sit on computers. Does the program require or recommend a naming convention? etc.

Bud Gallagher I agree with Henry User. I quote from his response

"What is needed is less slick graphics and a clear statement of specifications as to what this program will do, within the context of real world situation"

Can you respond to the quote and explain why someone would want or need this program.

Henry User @Stephen -Ambeleco Customer Support

Stephen,

Thanks for your kind comments. Send me the license you refer to and I will be happy to try it out - IF you include a detailed specification of what the program is supposed to be able to do and how the user makes the program do it.

I will tell you, and other programmers that may read this, the following. It is common that a pile of documents and links accumulate on the desktop or in one or more miscellaneous folder or even in folders with generalized topical names, such as John Smith File or Medical Records or TODO or Club Info OR Word Files or Graphics or PDFs, etc.. It becomes clear that, in order to appropriately organize your work or personal or combo computer, you should discard some of those files and organize the rest into suitably named sub folders or independent folders. Here is a functional spec to accomplish what I describe

1. Open program and aim it at a real or virtual (such as desktop) folder or sub-folder. A file listing appears in detail format.[I will come back to this later.]

2. The program permits you to create what I call "folder sets". A folder set is a group of folders, on your computer or on a disk attached to your computer. IT asks you to name the folder set. Let's call a the first set with the name "John Jones". The program then gives you the ability to browse your computer and its attached disks, and click on each of the folders that you want to be in the John Jones folder set. It also gives you the ability to create and name new folders that will be part of that folder set. When you are finished, you close the set creation function. At any time in the future you can modify what is or is not included in this folder set.

3. Now you go to the display function I described in item 1. When you right click on a file or a folder, a special right click menu appears. It shows all of your folder sets. You pick the folder set you want to use. Now the right click menu displays the folders of the folder set. Pick a destination folder and it moves the file or folder to the destination folder. The program can give the option of moving or copying.

4. Repeat this for each file or folder you want to move - until you direct otherwise the right click menu will be the John Smith folder set.

5. At the option of the user, each folder set can also include a delete function. I think it would probably be better to create a folder called something like "Temp Delete", so that accidental deletions are less likely.

There are ways this process can be made more efficient, but I think that there is no point in making the description more complex at this point.

The program I describe will probably not be of much use for computers that are already well organized or that are that do not have much in the way of documentation or disorganized graphics, songs, videos etc. However, there are a lot of computers out there with years are poorly organized material on the computer or on external disk drives.

It is unlikely that any AI program can organize computer data without a substantial user involvement - that is what the proposed program provides.

As a side note, organization of data can also be enhanced by the use of a rational file naming convention. Microsoft and various control key programs can provide the ability to insert something in every file as it is created or modified. For example the current date - 2023-03-27 or the name of the folder that the file is put into. Thus, if I add a file called "Landlord Letter" or "summer 2023 photo" to the JohnJones folder, the file automatically be made to be named JohnJones 2023-03-27- Landlord Letter" or "JohnJones 2023-03-27- summer 2023 photo".

There ought to be an app dedicated solely to that function - Save a file to a folder and a window comes up asking you to check a box to add the date and another box to add the folder name.or if no box is checked then nothing is added to the file name.
