Jun 23 2014 at 3:19am Copy Link

Thomas Klabunde Hi Georg,

The File Manager Opus we have not been tested and therefore can not give any guarantee. If the software using Microsoft standards, so it is possible. If the software use their own rutins, it sure does not work.

If someone already have experience with it (positive or negative), so we would appreciate a short note.

John Hunter There is something wrong with your fluid surveys finished page. It just keeps flashing trying to load but never loads. I've tried 4 times now & it's getting very tiring getting the same thing over & over. I can't reach the checkout page. Please fix it or send me an email with checkout details.
Thanks

Thomas Klabunde Hi Bjondc,

Between Private and Commercial version there are no functional differences. The only thing the freebie version shall not be used for business.

It should be also noted that the registration key of the freebie version for the commercial version is invalid and vice versa.

Thomas Klabunde Hi Bjondc,
Thanks for the request.

If both computers are used privately by you, one registration is enough.

@BDrJ: I think Constantin can help you. If not, then use our contact form and write a request with your email address and your username BDJ.

@Watcher1924: No.
But the freebie registration data apply only to the version here from BitsDuJour. Therefore, setup and registration information back up good (save) to install the software in the future.

Loyal User Not a good idea to have a program of this kind (encryption) to expire in 2 months, or at any time at all.

It should be either given away at 100% discount, as the title says, with no time limit, or just offer the discounted version.

There are plenty of powerful and free alternatives out there, with no limitations on them at all, such as AES Crypt, Omziff, OpenPuff, TrueCrypt, etc..

I won't even evaluate this software; thanks for the offer, but I'll pass.

Fred Hello #Loyal User - Did you click on the Fine Print tab? You should have and then you would know it is 2 months to install and register after you download. It can then be used indefinitely. You assumed a falsehood by not fully reading the details.

Loyal User Then the description above is a bit confusing; It could be interpreted differently; I misunderstood it:
... " ... the giveaway version has a License Registration Timeframe of 2 months ... "

Thomas Klabunde Hi #Loyal User,
it is true that the setup can only be installed by the end of May. For this, the computer time is queried. The registration data are valid indefinitely.

And who has problems afterwards can feel free to contact our support team. Please specify in this case the name of the software, the version and source!

1. abylon BASIC - No registration limit and Commercial use allowed v15.6
2. abylon BASIC - Must be registered within two months and personal use only v15.6 ($0)

Thomas Klabunde Hi Heidi-Ann Kennedy-Fourkiller,
we offer both versions on BitsDuJour.

The free version can only be used on private use computers. This setup can only be installed within the next two months.
The discounted version can be be used commercially and is available through BitsDuJour or abylonsoft anytime. We also offer constant updates. The major updates are also discounted.

However, both versions have the same functionality.

Noggin The Nog Can key pairs generated by this software be used to encrypt email, particularly in Outlook?
Oct 19 2017 at 6:25am Copy Link

Thomas Klabunde To Outlook itself we can give no more detailed information. It should be noted that the certificates created with abylon SELFCERT (contained in abylon BASIC) are self-signed. This means that these certificates will not be trusted. but as far as we know, if this in the Windows certificate database "Trusted Certificates" (or similar) is installed, this should work.
A German manual for the certificate installation can be found under the following link:

JessDaddy I downloaded the give-away version of this product. And, while I have no reason to doubt that it can protect your files, I will never have the opportunity to find out. The interface looks like something from the 1980s, and the way the program is set up makes it hard to figure out what does what. Needs a serious facelift.

Thomas Klabunde @JessDaddy: Thanks for the feedback. Our priority is functionality rather than design.

JessDaddy That's completely understandable. However, I think a better-flowing, and more intuitive, UI will go a long way in getting more people to use your software, which I am guessing is the goal of offering it on BDJ. Anyway, I wish you luck with your endeavors.

Thomas Klabunde Hi JessDaddy, of course we are not opposed to suggestions for improvement. But as general practice, we only receive criticism and no suggestions.
We are looking forward to a lively exchange. However, the user should also describe the problems and suggestions in a little more detail.

Noggin The Nog With what encryption systems are the keys inter-operable? For example, If I send someone my self signed public key created by Abylon Basic, is he likely to be able to encrypt a file using my public key using, for example, Gpg4win/Cleopatra, or an Apple system, and shall I be able to decrypt it with Abylon Basic. And, vice versa, am I likely to be able to encrypt a file on his public key and will he be able to decrypt it?

Where a file is encrypted with password protection, is it all encrypted on the user's public key, or does the system create a password for symmetric encryption that is encrypted on the key?

Is the Symm system pure symmetrical encryption?

If you use a smart card as the key in the Symm system, such as a Yubikey (if that is a smart card), is there any way to decrypt the data encrypted using that key if the Yubikey malfunctions or is lost?

Does Abylon Basic work with Yubikeys?

If you use an ordinary usb drive to unlock files, does it merely work by having the private key copied onto the usb drive?

Is there password protection to using the private key to decrypt a file encrypted using the private key, and if so is the password protection elective?

Is the Hybrid system so called because use of the private key to decrypt a file requires a password, or why is it so called?

Thomas Klabunde Hi Noggin The Nog,
Now that's a lot of questions. I will try to answer them briefly:
I'm sure you refer to the certificates as keys. The certificates created with our software are X.509-based. As far as I know, PGP uses a similar, but incompatible method. Therefore, please try it in advance with unimportant test data.

I don't know what you mean by "pure symmetrical encryption", but I think so.

We distinguish between "certificate-based" and "key card". With certificates the encryption is done by a so-called middleware (CSP Crypto Service Provider) and uses the public key. The decryption is then done with the private key.
In the case of key cards we support some smart cards. RFID tokens or also USB sticks and comparable. Here the external medium serves as a secret for the encryption. Thereby our software determines data of the hardware, which serve as key.

At the moment I assume that the Yubikey does not work. So far we have not received any positive feedback in this regard.

When using a USB drive, a symmetrical encryption is used. Data from the external medium serves as the basis for the key. Exactly this USB drive is required for decryption. Copying is not possible and a certificate is not required.

When using a certificate, a password can also be used. However, this is outside our software and is defined in the Windows certificate database during the installation of the certificate. Here are instructions for installing the certificate: https://www.abylonsoft.co...tabase.htm

We have called the asymmetrical encryption as HYBRID-System, because never the complete data is encrypted asymmetrically. Only the encryption key is always encrypted asymmetrically and then the data is encrypted symmetrically with the encryption key. This is done for performance reasons. Here is a link to our glossary:

William W. User I tried to purchase the 3-PC offer, but clicking that option either on the BitsDuJour page or on the order page only leads me to the single-PC purchasing page.
I tried several browsers, but in all cases get the same misdirection.
I looked for the same offer on the producer's home page, but it is not listed there.
I would like very much to pur4chase 2 copiews of the 3-PC offer (so I can run the program on 6 of my computers); how do I achieve that?
I will appreciate an answer before the offer runs out.

Loyal Customer Download and installation went fine, no issues.
Not an intuitive program at all, especially to people who are not experienced with computers. You kind'a look at the menu on the left, and aside from the Assistant, would just be baffled what do do next.
There is plenty of room in the user Interface for making the process intuitive and much simpler and clearer for the user.
The other issue is that it seems to me the program is slow (when you double click an item on the left until it's executed and displayed on the screen), even on a fast, 8-core desktop, fast M. drive, fast RAM, etc.
Just my observation.
Many thanks for the offer, though. Much appreciated.
