Howard Dabrawsky What does the commercial use terms mean for the paid versions? does that mean it may be used on more than 1 pc?

Thomas Klabunde Hi Howard,
for example.

Commercial use means that the computer is in a company (office) or will be used primarily for business tasks. There is no 100% clear statement. Here we also hope for the honesty of the users. Because only when our software is purchased, we can further develop our software.

Fred Completed purchase for free version, received online confirmation, downloaded the keysafe156_bdj-October file but have not received normal BDJ email with license key and registration instructions. It is not in my spam or trash folder. Did I miss something?

Update:
After an hour and after clicking Resend in the online receipt, I am still waiting for the email with the license code and registration instructions.

JW Are we using the "free Giveaway" version here or the Commercial version (presuming that we would be sent some Reg key to register it with)?
Which one functions with a USB key to provide "portable" Password retention?

Thomas Klabunde Hi JW,
Thank you very much for your request. The functionality does not differ between the Free and Commercial versions. Both versions can be used to create a portable USB version.

If further questions just post here....

XM Dear abylon,

Extended settings seem to be inaccessible after initial install? (Win10-Pro desktop)

Details: Upon initial install - and after answering 'Yes' to a popup asking if any other setting changes are desired - an extended settings dialog box is displayed. Once closed, seems this extended settings interface cannot be accessed again within the main program interface. Have tried un - & re - installing several times. Same result.

(Behavior is unlike abylon's sister product SharedDrive - with a similar main GUI - which DOES have a link to open "extended settings" from a drop-down menu. It's located at upper left corner of main program screen. KeySafe does not have this option listed in the drop-down.)

One other observation. With SharedDrive - the extended settings dialog can also be manually triggered by running the 'SADSetupx64' file in the program folder, while doing the same with the analogous 'SATSetupX64' file for KeySafe does not.

Instead, with KeySafe, running 'SATSetupX64' briefly displays onscreen a very small gray box with text "Ablyon KEYSAFE (adv Private Licence)" - and also shows up as SATSetupX64 in task manager (TM) - but promptly terminates and disappears from TM within a couple seconds.

Any thoughts / suggestions?

Noggin The Nog Which of your other programs is included in Enterprise?

Do all of the programs have English interfaces?

What USB tokens are available to use in the security programs (i.e. the various programs offered for sale on your website where mention is made of USB tokens), and do they include the Yubikey tokens?

Where USB tokens are used, can the security programs be configured to use 2fa?

Can Cryptmail be configured to store email in the clear? Does the recipient have to install anything in order to decrypt Cryptmail encrypted email where symmetrical encryption has been used?

Can X509 v3 keys generated by Self Cert be used to encrypt email? Can they be used for the native email encryption system in Outlook?

Is ShareDrive for the encryption of individual files within the windows folder structure?

When Shredder empties the recycle bin, does it overwrite only the pointers stored in the recycle bin, or does it also overwrite the data that remains on the disc that the pointers refer to, so far as not already overwritten through the normal writing of data to the drive by the rest of the system.

Thomas Klabunde Hi Noggin The Nog,

Thank you for your questions:

Which of your other programs is included in Enterprise?
>> abylon BASIC, abylon CRYPTDRIVE, abylon CRYPTMAIL, abylon SHAREDDRIVE abylon SHREDDER, abylon KEYSAFE, abylon LOGON, abylon SELFCERT

Do all of the programs have English interfaces?
>> Yes (Maybe not always perfectly translated, suggestions are always welcome...)

What USB tokens are available to use in the security programs, and do they include the Yubikey tokens?
>> All normal USB memory sticks that are displayed as a drive. Yubikey, I don't think so.

Where USB tokens are used, can the security programs be configured to use 2fa?
>> Yes, a two-factor-authentication with hardware key and password is possible.

Can Cryptmail be configured to store email in the clear? Does the recipient have to install anything in order to decrypt Cryptmail encrypted email where symmetrical encryption has been used?
>> The abylon CRYPTMAIL software is primarily for use with Outlook. It is displayed as an AddIn. The emails can then continue to be sent without encryption or, if desired, symmetric or asymmetric encryption.
The encrypted emails cannot be read without our software. The encrypted messages can be saved and decrypted with the freeware abylon READER.

Can X509 v3 keys generated by Self Cert be used to encrypt email? Can they be used for the native email encryption system in Outlook?
>> Self-signed certificates (such as those from abylon SELFCERT) can only be used with one trick directly and without our AddIn in Outlook. To do this, the certificate must be stored in both database "My" and "Trusted" (or "ROOT", please test).

Is ShareDrive for the encryption of individual files within the windows folder structure?
>> Our software abylon BASIC is responsible for the encryption of individual files. This offers the functions in the File Explorer via the right mouse button. The abylon SHAREDDRIVE creates virtual folders on the desktop level. These can be accessed via the File Explorer (can cause stability problems) or the corresponding GUI. abylon SHAREDDRIVE is especially designed for the use of several users in a network.

When Shredder empties the recycle bin, does it overwrite only the pointers stored in the recycle bin, or does it also overwrite the data that remains on the disc that the pointers refer to, so far as not already overwritten through the normal writing of data to the drive by the rest of the system.
>> When deleting the trash can with abylon SHREDDER the files are deleted in real by overwriting!

I hope this help....

Noggin The Nog Thanks Thomas.

By usb tokens, do you mean usb drives with private keys on them? If so, presumably a trojan could steal the private key, whereas I think Yubikey uses a one time token system, and would accordingly be more secure. Is that right, and if so is there any possibilty of your adding Yubikey functionality?

When an encrypted email has been sent or received by Cryptmail, is it stored in the email client in encrypted form, or can it be stored unencrypted, so that all of the usual search functions will work in the email program?

I am sorry - I did not quite understand your reply in relation to X509 keys. I am wondering whether they can by used in either Cryptmail or in Outlook's native email encryption system instead of certificates obtained from 3rd party providers. Are you saying that they can be used in Cryptmail in any case, and also in Outlook if stored in the 2 databases you mention? If so, how specifically can one store them in the 2 databases?

Are you saying that Sharedrive is a virtual folder system to by used in conjunction with Basic to provide decryption/encryption on the fly for files encrypted by Basic?

Does your reply to my question about Shredder amount to "Yes"?

Thomas Klabunde Hi Noggin The Nog,
'll write my answers right below the questions again:

By usb tokens, do you mean usb drives with private keys on them? If so, presumably a trojan could steal the private key,
>> Normaly we mean normal flash-drives. In this case we use a static key in combination with with hardware properties. A Trojan can't stell this.

whereas I think Yubikey uses a one time token system, and would accordingly be more secure. Is that right, and if so is there any possibilty of your adding Yubikey functionality?
>> In addition, we also support certificate-based smart cards and tokens. If their CSP (middleware) is compatible, we also support them. Whether Yubikey supports the Standdard or goes his own way, I cannot say at the moment. However, no Yubikey user has reported to me that he is using it in combination with our software.

When an encrypted email has been sent or received by Cryptmail, is it stored in the email client in encrypted form, or can it be stored unencrypted, so that all of the usual search functions will work in the email program?
>> The email arrives encrypted and needs to be decrypted for reading. After that, it can also be searched using the search function.
If desired, it can be encrypted again. But it doesn't have to be.

>>

>> With our Outlook AddIn you can also use self-signed certificates. They also do not have to match the email address. Under Outlook we only know from hearsay that users had to store the certificate in 2 databases to use it in Outlokk and Excel. To do this, simply open the created PFX file twice in a row and select different databases during installation.

Are you saying that Sharedrive is a virtual folder system to by used in conjunction with Basic to provide decryption/encryption on the fly for files encrypted by Basic?
>> No, abylon BASIC simply saves files you select in the File Explorer. These can be distributed over the entire hard disk. The file name also remains identical to the unencrypted file.
abylon SHAREDDRIVE has a different structure. When you add files, they are stored in a special directory. The file name is also made unreadable. The advantage over container-based encryption solutions is that multiple users can access the encrypted files simultaneously.

Does your reply to my question about Shredder amount to "Yes"?
>> Yes

Noggin The Nog Thanks Thomas for all of that, which is most helpful and practically answers all of my questions.

I am curious to know how ShareDrive works and enables the files to be used by more than one person, though I shall not be sharing myself. The way you describe it sounds like The file is encrypted and stored somehwere, but there is a virtual folder containing a link to the file, presumably showing the correct name, and some how this enables sharing with more than one person at a time. I wonder how. Is the file decrypted on the fly, or placed in some temp folder? And what do you do with competing amendment made simultaneously by different users? If you then have 2 new versions of the file, I suppose that each user's virtual folder has a link to the file as amended by him, but can each user no longer see the version amended by the other user?

So when Cryptmail has decrypted an email, the user views it in outlook as an unencrypted email, and so it remains unless he takes deliberate action to encrypt it again. Is that how it works?

How unique would the hardware properties be that are combined with the key in a usb token?

Here is a link to the yubikey site if that is any help: https://www.yubico.com/

I I buy the Enterprise bundle, do I have to upgrade the whole bundle if any of the programs in the bundle, or can I subsequently upgrade them individually?

Is ther any chance of your continuing this offer tomorrow so that I can try the programs tomorrow? It is nearly 1am here at present.

Thomas Klabunde Hello Hai Lieu,
We have our software tested by Virustotal by many, many virus scanners. They all say that our software abylon KEYSAFE is "clean". Some virus scanners detect all software products as potentially dangerous because they have not been registered by the manufacturer or no fee has been paid. Everyone has to decide for themselves who to trust. As a tip, unfamiliar software should always be installed on a virtual system for testing.

Test result in Virustotal for abylon KEYSAFE:

>>You can define the storage location for the abylon SHARREDDRIVE yourself. To do this, simply select a folder on the hard disk. However, you do not access the files directly there, but via our program. This organizes the data access.
Multi-user access means the complete database of the abylon SHAREDDRIVE. As soon as a file is opened by one user, this is displayed to all other users. To keep the database synchronous, you should only open the file once. If it is opened and changed a second time, 2 versions of the file are created.

So when Cryptmail has decrypted an email, the user views it in outlook as an unencrypted email, and so it remains unless he takes deliberate action to encrypt it again. Is that how it works?
>> Yes

How unique would the hardware properties be that are combined with the key in a usb token?
>> To be honest, a USB stick can be cloned with considerable effort. The combination of hardware key and password (2-factor authentication) provides additional security.

Here is a link to the yubikey site if that is any help: https://www.yubico.com/
>> If there is a need for an integration of the Yubikey from users or the manufacturer, we will deal with it. Usually hardware vendors charge a fee for the API or similar.

I I buy the Enterprise bundle, do I have to upgrade the whole bundle if any of the programs in the bundle, or can I subsequently upgrade them individually?
>> abylon ENTERPRISE is a complete setup. Therefore, it can only be completely updated. Each program can only be renewed separately for individual purchases.

Is ther any chance of your continuing this offer tomorrow so that I can try the programs tomorrow? It is nearly 1am here at present.
>> The program or update is still available today. Otherwise, order today via the link and select "Bank transfer" as payment method. Then you have a few more days until you transfer the money. If the money is not transferred, the order will be cancelled after 2 to 4 weeks without any claims. You will receive the registration data only after receipt of payment.

One more point, please. If I keep passwords etc in Keysafe, how may I use the same data on a smart phone - for example, an Android device - whether directly or by synchronising the data with something that works on an Android device?
>> We currently do not offer a version or interface to Android or iOs.

Noggin The Nog Hi Thomas,

Thanks for all your explanations.

I am afraid that whenever I tried to send encrypted mail using Cryptmail, Outlook crashed. This was not linked to my using the Yubikey, since it also happened when I had set the encryption method to password. It would be of interest to me if it worked, since there seem to be few products that store in unencrypted form email sent in encrypted form.

Keysafe worked, and worked with my Yubikey, although in the Administration Settings it showed that there was no compatible usb stick available. What would be a compatible usb stick or smart card? I am looking for an alternative to Roboform, since Roboform will only sync with Android via the cloud, which is an obvious security risk, and I think some form of 2fa would be desirable for such a hot target.

I was invited on each occasion when I used my Yubikey to record a long password in case of loss of my Yubikey, and it was the same password on each occasion. I think I said it provides one time passwords, but on reflection I doubt that. Is the password a copy of the pass provided by the Yubikey, or an alternative?

I found that the file encryption worked. Basic was not mentioned in the interface, but I assume that that is what was encrypting the file. I could not work out what Sharedrive was doing. I found it very attractive to have a form of 2fa for file encryption, on the assumption that it would considerably increase the security of hot data. It would be very useful if it could be available in the password manager and if that could synchronise with portable devices, so that hot data would be synchronised and better protected on portable devices.

I noticed that the links in the file context menu did not work on my system –the file Shredder and the Cryptassistant etc.
