What are people saying about Ashampoo Snap 15

disenchanted I currently run Snap 8 on one of my laptops. (From an ashampoo offer of a couple/few years ago) Not sure where I obtained it. From either BDJ or ashampoo or a joint-venture partner of ashampoo.

It seems to work pretty decently for my needs, so far.

QUESTIONS:

1. Can you do a quick overview [just a couple/few lines] of the features that today's offer of Snap 10 contains, vs. my older but currently running Snap 8 version?

2. Is there any sort of a FAMILY LICENSE for families that have like 3-5 computers in a household? [todays offers licensing is for
"1 laptop, and 1 desktop" ].

Thanks in advance for your response.

Robert Crombie Ashampoo web site says this is only for 64bit systems.
Is this true ?
(I only run 32bit windows 8.1 and 10)

Mark Hunter When I try to install it says I need an activation key but one was not provided.

This is the first thing it asks and cannot proceed without it.

Constantin Florea @Mark Hunter, There is a button on that pop-up window which allows you to request a registration key for free for this version of the product.

Joseph User When I ran the installer, it came back with a "this program doesn't support the version of windows you're running." and stopped.
You have "Platforms: Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8" in the description and I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit, so it should be included. What's going on?

Constantin Florea @AKBAR MOHAMED CASIM SHAIKH, The installer URL is also mentioned in the receipt email you received as a link. You can copy that link/URL and paste it into the address bar of a browser. That will start the download.

HKP @Glenn Stronach: In such a case, it's best to check the manufacturer's website. Type https://www.ashampoo.com/de-de/snap-15
into your browser. Then you will see that the software only runs on Windows 10 and 11. It's at the top in the black area. Then go to the menu bar in the white area below and enter “Requirements”. There you will see that 64bit-versions of Windows 10 and 11 are required for this software.

M User On Win 10 system, Google Chrome aborts the download, and mentions that it is from a non-secure site and might have been tampered with.

Personally, I am leery of these software offers where the software maker chooses to give a 'black box' installer. I would much prefer a license key instead, so that it could be used to register a software directly downloaded from their webiste.

Nigel Brewster I've used Ashampoo Snap for years and never had an issue. That was until Snap 14, which had all sorts of bugs, that did get sorted out, eventually and I use that, everyday.
Snap 15 is dreadful, the screenshots work fine, the video, works, until you've finished, then get a box, wanting to know what's wrong, you lose all your video. The bugs have never been fixed and I tried this and still, same old issues, that's probably why it is free.

Hubert CANEVET Hello,
It is not the software, that is flagged as a security risk, it is the protocol.
The file is proposed through HTTP, whereas the page is in HTTPS.
This offers less protection against piracy, of type "man in the middle".
So, it is not the developer who is to be contacted, but the webmanager.
I do not remember having this problem on BitsDuJour usually ?

Hi, I bought the software when it came out. The screenshots work fine, but the video doesn't, which is what I use it for the most. I got the money back on that. I tried it again with this offer and the problems still arise. Normal screenshots it's fine, but video is impossible. I have to have several computers and I get the same issues on all of them, with Windows 10 and 11.

Hubert CANEVET This is what I understood.
So, I did not install, as for the static screen copies PicPick does a very good job.

For the videos there are a few solutions, a free one that works is of course of interest.

So you had to get the money back. It is an era like that. The same way, because of functionalities not conform to announcements, from another source I had a not expansive Jack to Bluetooth adapter :)

Nigel Brewster I think with software companies, they're flying out more and more software, but some are AI driven. Ashampoo overall are very good, but some of their recent stuff, hasn't been tested properly. I've asked them to beta test. I'm not sure what computers they use, but it's nothing I do.
Oct 14 2024 at 8:08am Copy Link

Hubert CANEVET Oh, the tests are also a topic.
Some years ago, disks were properly tested before being sold.
Nowadays, disk sellers think that the customer is a much less expansive tester.

On the same machine, I had two major breakdowns, the first time because of the hard drive, the second time because of the solid state drive. Each time that made the machine unavailable for ten days, for it had been bought far away (because of the Covid the sellers around me did not respond).

The seller confirmed that I had less luck than the average on that.
The second time, when I contacted him, he said wait, we are going to look at the machine, and if it is confirmed it applies we repair under warranty.

Well it did.

I wanted no Samsung hardware, but they had nothing else ...

Rohs So it looks liek there is a Smap 16. How does that differ?
Does the OCR work locally?
Is there a video youtube demonstrating the video capture? Can you video capture audio as well? It looks like there are some comments about that not working
Oct 16 2024 at 5:55am Copy Link

Nigel Brewster @Rohs There is Snap 16, it does differ a little bit, but not the bugs. Snap4-Snap12 everything worked, fine, no issues. Snap 14 - 16 absolute nightmare. They did get Snap 14 working, eventually. They update too often and not sort out their problems. They should pay us to use Snap 15. Snap 16 is a bit different, visually, but under the hood the same as 15.

They all have audio, when recording video. I've done 500+ YT videos with Snap. The video editor has cutting throughout, not just at the beginning and end like most.

Judi Podgurski This option is in windows 10, and I use it quite frequently. No, it does not do video, but anything in the form of a still image or text can be saved and annotated easily with the "snipping tool", in Windows 10 and up (as far as I know). Have not started my new laptop just yet, with Windows 11. I keep the shortcut right on my taskbar, so it is very easy to use, and quick. No need to download and install anything else.

Hubert CANEVET OK. As soon as I can use it to record the screen content as a video let me know, it can help me a lot for user guides.

HKP Judi Podgurski and Hubert CANEVET seem to believe that Ashampoo Snap 15 can't make videos. That's wrong. The red dot for video recording appears conspicuously in the toolbar. In this version, this feature is still easy to find. This is already over in Snap 16. Like Nigel Brewster, I have also made the experience that all newer versions are chaotic. Their operation is simply terrible. And it always gets a little worse with each newer version.

Nigel Brewster Judi Podgurski & HKP & Hubert Hi Judi, like both me and HKP say, there is the video section. That part is easy to prove, as I've done it many times, the problem with it, is that it just cuts out and loses the whole thing. I've been onto Ashampoo many times, but they can't fix it. They think a new version, doesn't matter how fancy it is, will stop it, it won't.

I'll ask Ashampoo, if I'm allowed to give you guys my licence for Snap 12, it really is a good version. Even if I'm allowed to give you Snap 10 it's still better than the rubbish they've come up with recently. I did a video about Snap 10, you can find it here https://www.youtube.com/w...hDQNM&t=6s
I've had every version and in fairness to Ashampoo, I have made several videos with their products and have had some things free, although I'm not affiliated in the slightest with them.

Hubert CANEVET Oh, it seems the proposal at BitsDuJour is available for ten days, but that they did not provide a sufficient number of licences?
Sometimes the software publisher answers the questions, here, but it seems that ... it is not their style.
Maybe tomorrow they solve that problem of licences number.

Well, by the way if they could tell us about that story of video record ...
It was said that a previous version was OK with that.
