What are people saying about BarracudaDrive

Stefan Hauber This sounds to be a quite interesting and promising product...

Is it possible to create a command-line-command(-sequence) to automatically download a certain file, which changes on the server from time to time  (on a daily base), e.g. a 'picture of the day'?

I watched your videos and it seems to be a certain process like with many keystrokes and mouse-clicks, like entering the source-location, entering the user/password, assigning a drive-letter, etc.

So, is there a way to create a command(-sequence), which can be used inside a batch-file, being able to do all this stuff automatically and than download a file, perhaps using the 'wget' command, a ftp-download command, being able to ftp-download 'normal' files with a single command-line?

~~~~~
Is there a way to enable a protocol. So in the example above to see which user downloaded our pic-of-the-day-file?
~~~~~

Is it possibe to define for each directory/subdirectory a read/write access?

Thanks a lot...

Wilfred Nilsen Is it possible to create a command-line-command(-sequence) to automatically download a certain file, which changes on the server from time to time  (on a daily base), e.g. a 'picture of the day'? BarracudaDrive is a server that is compatible with any HTTP client suchas wget and curl. You can create batch files on the client computer(not the server side) that automatically downloads any content. I watched your videos and it seems to be a certain process like with many keystrokes and mouse-clicks, like entering the source-location, entering the user/password, assigning a drive-letter, etc. That depends on what part of the product you are accessing, a protectedresource or a public resource. Protected resources are typically mangedby the File Server -- i.e. WebDAV and the "Web File Manager". Publicresources can be put in the cmsdocs directory and directly downloadedwithout providing a username/password. Is there a way to enable a protocol. So in the example above to see which user downloaded our pic-of-the-day-file? It is possible to create a "per user download log", but you would haveto write a script that monitors the downloads. In addition to being aready to use consumer product, BarracudaDrive is also a developmentplatform that enables developers to extend the product. See thefollowing link for more information: http://barracudaserver.co...rPages.lsp Is it possibe to define for each directory/subdirectory a read/write access? Yes, when using the "Web File Server" plugin. You can add any number ofusers and you can setup permission constraints for each user. Would it be possible to obtain a BarracudaDrive + GetMyLAN license through this deal? Thanks. Yes, the 60% discount is available for any of the license options. Is there a benefit to running BarracudaDrive within my home network, or is this primarily for accessing files from outside? I have a half dozen computer in my home network, do I need a license for each? BarracudaDrive is primarily designed for accessing resources from theoutside. You would install BarracudaDrive on one of your computerswithin your LAN. The other computers can be accessed vie the"GetMyLAN/HTTPS Tunnel" or the "Web File Server". See the followinglink for how to configure BarracudaDrive on a Windows computer toaccess files on other computers on your LAN: http://barracudadrive.net...ws-Service

The new BarracudaDrive4.4.2, which is available for Windows only, includes a new easier touse theme. The configuration wizard is also simplified. We suggest thatyou download BarracudaDrive again if you have already downloaded theproduct. We also suggest that you take a look at the training videos: http://barracudaserver.co...videos.lsp

After you have installed and configured the server, navigate to the following URL and follow the purchase wizard: http://localhost/rtl/lice...ewlic=true The name "localhost" must be substituted with the server's IP address/domain name if you are accessing the server from a remote computer.

Stefan Hauber I'm a little confused about the buying-process, which is said to be done from within your program and the license being integrated directly into the program.

With a single user-license, can I install your software on more than one of my (personal) computers and if not, how easy/difficult is it to switch the license to another computer? (A new laptop is about to be bought in the next weeks...)

Guy Good To Wilfred Nilsen

I installed BarracudaDrive so I could order it to take advantage of
the special pricing. I couldn't see a way to pay for it without installing the software.

My intention was to buy the software to try out at a later date, so what is the best way to stop it from starting at all or uninstall it?
I set the service to manual start and the tray icon still appear, but the service isn't running. Is there a way to totally disable any part from running until I start it manually?

Thank you

Wilfred Nilsen Notice that I have responded to several questions below: "Do I need a static IP adress or dynamic IP is enough? Dynamic works fine. The product works with both static and dynamic IP addresses. And for the plug ins... are they going to be available at checkout to choose or we will need to buy it afterward? The plugins are free except GetMyLAN, which must be purchased at the same time. With a single user-license, can I install your software on more than one of my (personal) computers and if not, how easy/difficult is it to switch the license to another computer? (A new laptop is about to be bought in the next weeks... You typically do not want to use more than one installation/license. This is aserver that can be accessed from any number of clients at the sametime. You can move the license to another computer. Start by installingBD on the new computer, stop the server, copy the license filebdlicense.dat to the new computer, and restart BD. You will have to acknowledge thatyou moved the license. I set the service to manual start and the tray icon still appear The tray icon and the server are not the same. The tray icon is notneeded and is provided to new users for convenience. You can remove thetray icon. See the readme file for instructions. You can manuallycontrol the server startup status from the command line. Open a commandwindow and type bd. This will list all commands available. The purchasing method is horrible.  You do  not need to enter any license keys, thus the license management is easier than in most other license managers. What if I know that I'm going toneed to install this to a different computer or OS in the near future? You move the license as explained above.

Wilfred Nilsen Can I purchase, today, without installing the server? Unfortunately no, the server must be installed before you purchase. Thepurchase will only take you five minutes. After installation, thebrowser is automatically positioned at the license page, where you havethe option of installing a trial license or purchase a license. You must select the purchase now to get the discount. You can do the configuration later. I can ask Iconico if we can have the discount enabled till Monday.

Diego SEO Hi again.

> Unfortunately no, the server must be installed before you purchase.

This software looks very interesting and affordable but, in my opinion, this procedure is not very consumer friendly. For example, I was going to take advantage of the offer "just in case", not to install it right now (since I'm currently using another solution). In addition, what happens if you decide to discontinue this project?. In that case, I guess that it won't be possible to re-install the program.

Regards,
Diego

Wilfred Nilsen In that case, I guess that it won't be possible to re-install the program. You can re-install the software as long as you keep your license file (bdlicense.dat). See my previous comment on how to move this file from one computer to another.

Steven User >>> You do  not need to enter any license keys, thus the license >>>management is easier than in most other license >>>managers. The licensing certainly does not appear to be easier.  There may be no licence key but one presumably has to make a copy of the licence file in case the system crashes. I had been waiting to purchase this product but now I'm having second thoughts.

Sandro Perotti I tried to purchase but it seems it can only be done after installing. The thing is I want to purchase a license but not for the computer I am at the moment. At the discount price, of course.
The question is if there is a way to purchase now without installing and later validate the license. Sort of a rain check.

Nick Kobe Hi!

I use Tabbles (previously offered here and a great program).  I have the database installed on a 2T external drive along with my data/document/image files.  If I have Tabbles installed on ALL my computers and they point to the 2T drive will I be able to access this database remotely using Barracuda Drive?  Do external drive letters remain the same?

Thanks!

Wilfred Nilsen Nick,
BarracudaDrive provides a remote network drive and a VPNlike feature via GetMyLAN. Using the network drive for large database files isnot recommended. I do not know how Tabbles works internally so I am afraid Icannot give you a good answer, but if Tabbles accesses the database via the network,it may be possible that you can use GetMyLAN to tunnel the traffic.

I looked at the readme.txt in C:\Program Files\BarracudaDrive and it didn't contain instructions about stopping the tray icon. There is another file named install.txt which did have the information in case any other users are interested.

My goal is to leave BarracudaDrive installed, but have none of it running until I manually wish to start it and test.

Thank you for your help

It defaults to checking the extra cost plugin called GetMyLan.
If you don't want that extra cost item, uncheck it and the price should be adjusted accordingly.

Hope This Helps

Mike B A couple questions:

1) if I backup the bdlicense.dat file I'll be able to install it on a different machine when I move the BarracudaDrive server to something more permanent?

2) I understand that version 4.4.2 is Windows-only, but will I be able to use this license file on a Linux-based BarracudaDrive server (using whatever version is then current for the Linux server)?  I'm considering that my 'production' BarracudaDrive server maybe should be Linux-based (but I'm not sure about that yet).
