What are people saying about Bits&Coffee BatchPhoto Pro

jay User WTF? Photoshop has had fantastic batch support for over a decade. You can save any manipulations as an "action" and then apply it as a batch.

Gray Lox A question to your update policy:

"...Purchasing an Update is like purchasing BatchPhoto again but only at a fraction of the price. You will receive a new activation code that will allow you to activate the full version of the latest BatchPhoto release. Additionally you will benefit from another 6 months worth of free updates!..."
http://www.batchphoto.com/purchase.html

Does this mean, that the updated version only gets the following updates for 6 months "free" and after that I have again to buy an update if I want to have the latest software?
How will this continue? 3 months - 1.5...

Cosmin Unguru Hi Gray,

Thank you for your interest in BatchPhoto.

When you purchase BatchPhoto you will get a lifetime license (for Windows and Mac at the same time) so you don't have to update, ever. You will also receive the new versions that will be released in the next 12 months.

If you want to update, after a few years for example, to the up-to-date version you will have to pay half the price. Additionally you will receive another 6 months of free updates.

Best Regards

Michael Blower When is this deal going to be available? I downloaded the trial and I like the program and am ready to buy it. Also, how many computers will I be able to load the program on?

Antoosa Is this a per-user license? In other words, may the license code be used for "all owned computers?" Please clarify your policy.
Thanks,
Antoosa

Cosmin Unguru Hi Michael,

Thank you for your interest in BatchPhoto. The deal is available today (5). One license of BatchPhoto Pro is for use on one computer only (either PC or Mac).

Bob Allen I didn't see Windows 7 as an option. Has this been tested with Windows 7?

Bob Allen Update: I used the trial version on Windows 7 32-bit and it worked fine. The interface is fairly simple and I did not need a tutorial to figure it out. Looks like it's worth the price.

Antoosa From reading all the comments, it appears this software is terrific in many ways, but the developer's silence and lack of response to our questions leaves much to be desired. Also, the licensing terms (for installation on only one computer) is limited and not competitive with other software companies, as most customers own more than one computer. For these reasons, I (sadly) will not buy this program, no matter how good the value. Thanks anyway.

Michael R. Am I right, that after having created batch processes, they can be processes by calling B&C from a command-line and execute the scripts from there (for one or a batch of given pictures)?

The feature-list is quite impressing. I wished though it would be more comfortable to edit the filters. E.g. the opening-up window should be resizeable to the full-screen and the preview could be magnified to more than 100% (to handle areas with pixel accuracy), and e.g. in the resize-filter, the mouse could be used to define a range as in so many other graphic-programs...

Last, but not least: The fineprint states 'Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 12 months'. On your homepage one can read, that upDATES are free for 12 months. So minor updates and bugfixed-version will cost additonally after these 12 months?

Cosmin Unguru @Michael R. Thank you for your feedback.

Yes you are right. With BatchPhoto you can create scripts with custom edits that can be called from the command line. You can also save your settings as a profile for later use.

Most of your feedback will be implemented in version 4.0 which is due later this year.

Yes, we have a 12-month free updates policy. This includes both major and minor updates. We call an "upgrade" the transition to a superior edition (e.g. Pro to Enterprise).

William Hernandez I purchased this today on the MAC Store for $9.99. All the same features as the PRO.
How come it cost more here?

Cosmin Unguru @William. We have a special version of BatchPhoto for the Mac App Store. That version has to obey the rules imposed by Apple (sandboxing) so it's somehow limited, and it lacks the Facebook upload feature.

Additionaly, if you purchase the Mac App Store version, you will not be able to use BatchPhoto on Windows as well.

William Hernandez According to the description in the App store, it looks like everything is there.
I would have never purchased if the description seemed limited.
Besides the windows usage and the Facebook upload, how limited is it?
Did I just throw away my money at the app store?

Cosmin Unguru The limitations of BatchPhoto for Mac App Store are the same as for all the other apps from the store. You can learn more by searching for "mac sandboxing". Basically, the apps cannot read from or write to your hard disk without you selecting the input or output paths each time.

For example in BatchPhoto we cannot have a default output path in projects, profiles or scripts since the user has to select it manually each time photos are processed.

Also, the use of projects is limited sice the user has to manually select the photos each time in Step 1.

William Hernandez This was not in the description of the app store. You need to add this. Its very deceiving. The description in the app store makes it sound like a complete good app. It doesn't mention these limitations. People need to know this before they purchase. I am not very happy with the way you do business.
