What are people saying about ClipCache Pro

park sonn I have tried it before, but now I use Typing Assistant. TA can cache multi-clipboard items, and has many other useful functions. www.sumitsoft.com

John W You may have used an older version of CC, but for sure you haven't used the latest becasue it was released after your post. I agree TA has features that CC doesn't, but conversely CC has many features that TA doesn't. Does TA let you organize clips in to folders and sub-folders, highlight/mark folders/clips, does it have a powerful search (wildcard and regular expression) to help you find those clips, does it let you clean-up text clips so you can remove all the ugly indents from emails and more, I could go on, but it's best for the readers to download and try it for themselves.

kalmly H I was using another program but decided to give this one a try. I'm so glad I did. It does everything I'd been wishing my old app would do and so much more. I edit and move around large amounts of text and, twice now, I've lost an important piece and had to rewrite because the cut clip was too large for the application to handle. ClipCache is not so limited. It also solves one of the problems I had with formatting. Since I am able to set it to use my favorite font, I no longer have to either retype or reformat each bit I paste. When in doubt about whether or not to delete, I can just use cut (Ctrl+X) and the piece of text will be stored in ClipCache - forever, if I so choose. Other possibilities occur to me. I will definitely be keeping it.

Rick Truell One of the features of the clipboard manager I'm currently using (Polar MultiClipboard) is the ability to share clips with other computers over the network. Have you considered adding this capability to ClipCache Pro?

Alternately, does ClipCache Pro store it's clips in such a way that they could be shared with multiple computers (each running a copy of ClipCache Pro) via a network file server or something like drop.io ( http://drop.io/ )?

John W I don't see why you wouldn't be able to share the file over a network. You would need to refresh the contents in CC to see new clips that had arrived in the database because CC wont do that for you.

Bob S A couple of the testimonials suggest that ClipCache can handle images, but I don't see any mention of images in the product description or features.

Does ClipCache handle images as well as text? If so, can you provide a link describing how this feature works (e.g., both capture and paste)?

Thanks.

Stefan Hauber Is it possible for your product LINKSTASH, you are offering today in parallel to a adiscounted price, instead of password-protect all links, just to protect certain directories (or is it planned for next future releases)?

John Williams Bob, CipCache captures images that are put on the clipboard as bitmap. It works just the same as text, but for images. For example, hit Alt+PrintScreen to capture the active window as an image.

John Williams Stefan, LinkStash is automatically discounted when buying CkipCache, you will receive that discount but not a BDJ discount on top of the applied LS discount. And you will receive the BDJ discount for CC. Password protected dirs is planned.

The BDJ discount also applies to the family pack.

Jean Sibe I have tried bunch of clipboard managers from freeware to paid versions. All the programs seemed to work quite well until I copied something huge to clipboard, for example taking one screenshot (resolution 1920x1080), few A4's of text. This is NOT the case with ClipCache Pro, I've been using ClipCache Pro soon for over two years and it's just awesome.

This is probably the only clipboard manager which handles memory well, regardless of data amount. It's search function is very nice, also works partly so if you remember just some parts of the text.

You can store most frequently used "snippets", create multiple folders, all with formatting included. I have few signatures (html), often used phrases. I have assigned one shortcut and it is so fast to paste something, rather than finding it from somewhere.

I have made one request to the developer and they implemented it; now you can copy-paste to plain text. I often copy lot of formatted text and I just want them without any formatting.

And don't forget the Powerpaste feature, with this one you can copy multiple amount of data and then paste them in the order you want. One example how I've used this, when doing HTML:

I have copied:

A1 link
A1 text
A2 link
A2 text
...

then I can paste first the link, for example www.google.com, then for the next one, I get the name of A1 link, for example "Google". I don't need to alt-tab between programs. It's so much easier and fast.

Highly recommended! Thanks XRayz for providing such a good quality software.

Peter B. I don't know if this is a fair comparison. I am testing 'capture saver' (http://www.capturesaver.c.../index.htm) and clipcache. Has anyone ever tested ore compared both these tools? I'm trying to understand the most important advantages and disadvantages between the two before buying one of them. They look very much the same to me, but I might be wrong.

Maybe the author/vendor from clipcache can explain.

John Williams Jean, thanks for the great comments. A good summary of how you use ClipCache. And I'm sure many of you use it in different ways. I personally always use the Recent Clip List (in classic mode) to quickly paste something I copied previously, which otherwise would have been overwitten by subsequent copies. There is never any delay at all in selecting or pasting - memory usage is certainly something I'm always keeping in check.

John Williams Peter, I don't know much about Capture Saver, but there is very little on how you can access the saved data. If you need access to your clips quickly and without fuss then ClipCache can help. There are many ways to access saved clips without ever opening the main window, therefore you have access to your clips while you work within your other programs. Capture Saver also says it's a research tool, but does it record the window title of all the programs you copy from? This source information is critical for research. For example if you copy text from a PDF or any document for that matter, ClipCache will record the title of that window/document, you can use that information for document references, students will especially need this.

Albert C. Impressive software! Very recommended! ^_^ Apart from its obvious timesaving use, the programmer doesn't produce a gazillion new versions so you need to pay for upgrades every year. Derek Lavine Hi, I run a VMWare machine on my main machine I have two questions. If I have ClipCache Pro installed on both the main machine and the VM will I require to ClipCachePro license and more importantly will data copied from the VM be accessible to the main machine and visa versa with all of ClipCache Pros features being available between the two (or potentially more) machines.

What about when I am using remote desk top type software (such as window remote desk top) and logmein, how will they be able to access data copied into ClipCache Pro clipboard. Will they just get the "last thing copied" (which is fine)

Thanks

John Williams Frank, I know some of my users used to be CM users, they preferred ClipCache so it's horses for courses as they say. ClipCache was the first to offer text clean up and many more useful features. It's fast, responsive and very reliable. I know many users are using ClipCache because they love the speed, reliability and feature set, including Unicode support (so for example Chinese text can be captured) that other products don't offer. I will always try to innovate, but without bloat.

Derek Lavine Hi John,

Thanks for your response.

I did down load CCP and installed on both my VM and main machine and I thought I would try making the two installs share the same db file on my NAS but unfortunately once the DB file is open by one instance of the program trying to opening it using another instance results in a db locked error. So it does not look like I will be able to use CCP to share copied data between my two machines.

Perhaps this is something you might change in future so that multiple instances of the application can access the same data file.

That said, I still will purchase the app as I can have the two instances using their own db file and then just use the fact that I can select the clip I want to copy from machine 1 to machine 2, by "right mouse click - copy" (on machine 1) and then just paste on machine 2. and of course visa versa.

Lastly it would be really cool if (for now) it was possible to import other clipcache files (not just old version) as this feature would be a quick way to get data from one machines (clipcache) into another machines clipcache. Which would help a little with the fact that two instances of the application cannot use the same data file. I appreciate I can close instance 1 and open it's data file in instance 2 but this is a bit more of a pain.

Many thanks
Derek

Richard Tauriello Something I really like about ClipCache Pro is that you can customize the format(s) captured on a per-program basis. Some programs put a lot of bloat in their HTML (I'm looking at you, Surfulater), so it's nice to be able to capture only their plain text.

Also, I often use the hotkeys that scroll between recent clips, rather than trying to memorize clip-specific hotkeys.

Jac Schneider Have been using this since early version 6+years ago.

In 20 years of IT work, this would be the single most outstanding app I have ever used in sheer usefulness - and value for money.

If you work with snippets of information, once you start using all the features this will become a productivity GEM.

IMHO it's not just a clipboard utility, but a powerful mini-database. It may not be recommended, but we have had .DB files over 400MB - and the search function is still lightning fast!

You can dilly around with those other clipboard apps - we've tested them all - but if you can't afford $14.98, maybe you're not in Business!

Avi S I purchased this utility last time it was on BDJ. It does its job very well, providing all of the functionality that I need in this area. I can view my list of previous clipboard copy operations, and I can assign a keyboard shortcut to those which I wish to use often. Additionally, I like the ability to work with either fully-formatted text or plain text: for any given copied item, I can assign shortcut either to the fully-formatted version, or to a plain text version, or I can assign two shortcuts, one to each.
In fact, the configuration is easy enough that I do it as needed on the fly, even if it's not for long term use. For instance, if I'm editing a document and I see that I'm repeating three distinct sequences from time to time throughout the document, I'll put each of those into ClipCache, assign a keyboard shortcut to each, and then continue on my way, efficiently making my way through the document. Setting up these shortcuts is so easy that it's worth doing even in the context of processing a single document.
However, one issue that I have with the program is that the memory requirements are quite severe. In the course of normal program usage, I've notice clipcache shooting up to over 256MB of virtual memory. That's a huge chunk for a little utility. And while this may be fine for a user of a 64-bit OS with 16GB of RAM, for the average user who has, say, between 1GB and 2GB of RAM, that's not reasonable at all.

Richard Paris Hi. Downloaded the trial. Looks excellent. However, I would like to use ClipCache Pro with ABBYY Screenshot Reader for text and image capture. Text works fine but seem that ClipCache unable to render the Images transferred in DDB format. Is this a known limitation of ClipCache Pro? Are there any plan to support rendering of images in DDB format?

John Williams Avi S I'm surprised because ClipCache is light on memory use. It's currently using under 5MB working set (private) here.

One of the goals is to keep the program as trim as possible and use a small memory footprint. I'm not sure why you are seeing memory use of that size, maybe there is an issue, maybe you are viewing large bitmap clips or complex HTML, both which would require more memory when viewing of that clip. You could contact support and we can see what might be the cause.

Merle One Hi,
2 questions :

1/ I cannot get to pay with Paypal, it doesn't appear from the drop down list in the paiment method field (Plimus)

2/ Is it compatible with Simidude, recently proposed on BdJ
Dec 22 2011 at 2:51am Copy Link

John Williams Richard Paris, DDB (device dependent bitmap) isn't rendered but DIB (device independent bitmat) is rendered.

You generally wouldn't want to store DDB so there is no rendering for it, you would want DIB though which renders fine.

Just to be clear for anyone else, ClipCache does capture images as bitmap (DIB.)

HJ B If material is clipped from a web page, it displays within the program as html, but one can toggle between html and Rich Text.

(1) If I try to edit the html display, the cut and delete options are not available. If I switch to Rich Text, they are available, and appear to work. However, if I switch back to html, the material that was edited out is restored. Then a switich back to Rich Text shows it is gone. Would I be correct in assuming that the program stores each clip in both html and rich text at the same time?

I would like to be able to edit the html version just as I would be able to do if I pasted it into an email or into Word. Can that be done within this program? If not, then I suggest that the feature be added, If you go through a bunch of material and capture a dozen clips, you generally know what you will want to edit out, as you capture a clip. If you have to immediately move it to another program to edit or if you wait until you have assembled all before you edit, then a good part of the utility of the program is lost.

I am unable to cut or delete material from a captured clip, within the Clip Cache program. Does that mean that a clipping must be transferred to some other program in order to edit it?

To be specific, I want to be able to edit text. As regards photos, I only want to be able to cut or delete a photo, or, perhaps, move it within the clipping. Also, if when copying from the original source I miss a character or a word, I want to be able to type it in, rather than go back to the source and recopy.

(2) If I display a clip within a program, and then I high lite and copy a portion of the clip, for the purpose of pasting it elsewhere, the program treats that just as it does any other use of the copy function, i.e., it stores another clip. Is there a way to copy from a stored clip, without creating yet another file?

John Williams HJ B, 1) that's correct HTML and plain text are stored as two separate entities in one clip. As you can imagine editing HTML would be pretty complex, unless the text representation of it was edited instead, which isn't possible - maybe I can add that later. 2) You are right, copying from the preview pane creates a new clip, but keeps the currently edited clip in the preview window. There is no option to change how that works, but you could do: Ctrl+Q Ctrl+C Ctrl+Q which would disabled capture, copy and enable capture.
XRayz Software - Dec 22 2011 at 8:41am Copy Link

HJ B @John Williams

Yes, I do mean editing the text representation, just as one would be able to do if a clip were pasted into an email.

Thanks for providing the control sequence, That will save a lot of unnecessary storage. I take it that ctrl+Q toggles the program's capture function between active and inactive.

1. I notice that, in some instances, the display tabs have the option between HTML and Rich Text and other times it is between HTML and plain text. Can you explain what the basis is upon which that occurs?

2. Is it possible to create a short cut for functions such as printing. For example, it would be convenient if there were an menu item or icon that would permit to send to the printer and another to permit me to send to pdf. It would avoid having to deal with the print menu.

3. Is it possible to select several clips to print, without first merging them?

4. It appears that if html clips are merged, they all become plain text - is that correct? So, let's assume that an article is spread over several webpages, and a I capture each page. Must I use some other application to bring the various parts together?

5. When a merge is done, the option is given to insert a text note and the beginning of each clip or between clips. As far as I can tell, the function does not seem to work as indicated. The note is only inserted before the first clip.

John Williams HJ B, here are some answers

1) Some apps put HTML+RichText+PlainText on the clipboard and some put HTML+PlainText. So ClipCache copies all those. But in ClipCache options (capture tab) you can set the option to prefer PlainText or RichText, or even both (not recommended.) This is purely to avoid duplication of text by capturing the preferred type of text that you like. I personally don't even have HTML enabled (no need for my use) and I have prefer PlainText, so I only get one entity of text, so no duplication and makes life much easier - less confusing. I would recommend it unless you really do need HTML. I wish I'd made that the default set of options.

2) Sorry no way to create shortcut functions.

3) As you have found out, merge is the way to print a batch of clips.

4) The text entity of the clip is used to merge clips when it's available. If there's RichText only, it's converted to plain text and merged. HTML isn't merged or converted so won't be merged - but the text entity of the clip is used instead if avilable.

5) I can't reproduce that merge issue, just tested here all ok. Please bear in mind that nothing extra is inserted when merging, no newlines or anything. You have to explicitly add that to the merge field using the little arrows on the right.

Software Guy @ Michael K

I use both CM and Clip Cache pro. Both are excellent. I tend to use CM on my desktops for documents editing and clip cache on my laptop and notebook for more casual clipping. I like the classic view of CM with a fixed window for some applications and I tend to prefer it for filling in repetitive forms - once you have set it up. I like clipcache for the hotkeys function, especially useful for ordering online. Both are powerful and take some learning to master. Give clipcache a try and see if you like it. Also worth checking out is Xrayz linkstash. It is very useful and quite powerful once you get it set up for your needs.

Frank Stephens Michael K, I haven't looked at a recent version of ClipCache Pro, ClipMate has more features than I need. ClipMate doesn't handle Unicode as well, but it supports multi-user shared network databases in addition to local databases. As with all software, it's a matter of personal preference. There's no way to do a quick comparison of clipboard extenders, they all function differently and have different features (ClipMate has a huge number of features and options). Development of ClipMate has stalled, but full Unicode support is about the only additional feature which many want. ClipCache Pro supports Unicode and is still under development, although the last time I tried it some time ago it lacked some useful features of ClipMate. ClipCache Pro just now got around to capturing the name of the source, and I don't know if it has built-in spellcheck (I use that CM feature a lot). Like I said, all clipboard extenders are different with different features and different UIs.

2. If there is V4.0 developing, the policy says I will pay extra money for it, It is unfair for people who buy the software recently. Maybe you can change the policy(such as buying after 2012 can get a free update.

Garrett Goyette Looking forward to kicking the tires and comparing this 64 bit manager to clipmate 7, clipstory, clipmagic, clipboard magic, etc. I have 4 or 5 clipboard programs, most that i bought or downloaded from Bitsdujour. The fact that i can buy the family pack for 5 computers for $30 is sweet.

Clipboard mangers are indepensible, i do not know how people can function without them. I bought or trialed 4 or 5 from Bitsdu jour but found myself using Clipmate 7 mostly...sometimes hundreds of times in one day. Often i have multiple clipboard managers open at the same time and clipmate 7 tends to always work when others miss copying, but then they may be slightly in conflict. For some reason Clipmate 7 no longer picks up the Source url even though there is a field for it.

At first glance clipmate seems to have a few more features on the toolbar..., linking, bitmap, has a screen capture function, but truth is i do not really use all the functions though appending clips together is nice and not sure clipcache offers this..this is incredibly handy..think about adding if you can. i can already see that your clipcache has snagged a few source urls that clipmate missed, and i must say i find that a really important feature to have working right.
BTw, the comment an earlier person made that clipmate 7 was no longer beign developed appears to be true and is one more reason to grab clipcache now.
turns out that it is true that the last update was january 2009..i was surprised..

John Williams Garrett, hope all goes well. Not only do you get source URL (where available) but also source window title and source app name. I have spent a long time making these reliable because this kind of information it critical, especially for researchers.

If you have a 64bit OS I'm quite sure that a 64bit app is required to get some info (e.g. source app/exe name) and because ClipCache installs the 64 bit build under 64 bit OS all should work fine, not to mention taking advantage of the 64 bit memory model.

One thing to remember is that CC is very customisable, the way you use it will more than likely be different to how I use it. Have a play and see what works best for you. I personally use the clip menu hotkey and the classic-mode recent clip list, all via the keyboard - no mouse needed.

Richard Tauriello @Garrett: Looks like the vendor missed your comment about appending clips together. Clipcache has that feature, and allows the user to specify exactly what characters to insert between the merged clips.

I'd like to highlight a couple of Clipcache features that I only found after digging around the options: you can exclude certain applications from the capturing (e.g., I exclude a password manager), and you can control what formats (HTML, RTF, plain text, etc) it captures from each application. I find the latter feature handy because some Microsoft programs put a lot of formatting bloat into the clipboard.

bai bai I have already buy ClipCache Pro. It is elegant, fast and organized well(VS clipmate or ditto, they are both ugly). It is the best windows(or world) clip manager.

Some small hints:
1. You can use Listary with ClipCache Pro. Listary can give you a find-as-you-type feature better than origin search. You can even do google-like search with your clips.

2. You can define different "paste" key in different applications.
So you can paste text easily in command line.

3. Cleanup feature is powerful. You will love it if you use it frequently.

Some suggestions:
1. I find ClipCache Pro is registered In Over 50 Countries. But there is no China! I come from China and I wish you add it in your homepage.

2. CC4 is very nice. I can't wait it. If there is a alpha or beta version, I am happy to be a tester. I wish XRayz has a twitter or facebook to follow CC developing news. Maybe I can get a email as soon as beta version release.

Garrett Goyette Thanks Richard, searching on "append" i could not find a menu item or inside help on a search, but when i selected 2 or more clips, the right click context menu has MERGE.
I picked up the family pack

One thing i love already is the ability to fast paste and also eliminate duplicate consecutive copy. this will keep the litter down and make it faster to go in and sort.

Direct routing looks interesting, but i am very likely to copy items to specific folders and leave original clip in the new clips [that way i can always look at the master list chronologically..but i have 16 gb ram and about 6 tbs of hard drives so i don't mind the extra load]
i have been using extended type clipboards for 10 years. i could not live without one. This is a great deal particularly for a family. I have a desktop 2 laptops, my wife has laptop, etc. i can think of NO other tool that i use while working all day as CTRL+C or copy, literally hundreds of times per day. you will not believe how much time you will save people, and how it will help you organize particularly if you do a lot of internet searching.

i suppose somewhere in clipmate there might have been a fast paste but i routinely recopy from the clipboard window and then paste where i want whcih duplicates the entry.
In a few weeks i may write a review comparison of clipmate, clipcache and clip magic. all have a similar layout with the folder tree heirarchy, right clip pane, detail lower pane.
these are very powerful features, the folder tree structure is what makes such a clipboard manager so inherently powerful because you can sort and save what you want, forever. i often looks up clips that could be more than a month old.

wishlist
perhaps they can add a tag or label field (like gmail) so i can find things more easily. for instant, i could put this clipcache purchase in a bitsdujour folder or $ software (software i buy) would could be for anywhere so i can find if i do not file in the most appropriate folder..wiht tages or label i can put in most likely folder but add extra tags to more easily categorize

anyway, teh feature might be in there, if not put that on a wsihlis

You almost can never make a credit card purchase where the address or phone number do not match what is on file..these are automatic triggers for fraud alerts for the payment gateway processors. My wife got a fraud call from Visa from a puchase i made on my desktop from home yesterday, because her card was paying for a purchase i made thru one of my accounts

But it wasn't so much an issue then, it seem more people want to use paypal now, and it's become a problem. I will switch payment providers for the next BDJ sale to make is easier for everyone. John Williams Amar, ClipCache captures the title of the window, so if you copy from a PDF file it's going to have the file name in the window title, so that information is captured. To paste it, you can view the properties of a clip and copy the file name from the "window title" field, then paste to the document.

M K G Hi John, Thanks for the response. Sorry, that I took some time to get back.

I have been looking for a solution that automatizes the process your described. Instead of the user having to manually copy and paste the "window title" field through a series of clicks, can a hotkey combination perform the function of pasting the contents of the "windows title" field together with the copied text automatically.

This will help highly improve the productivity of people who have to constantly copy and paste the source while writing.

Thanks.

Amit 1) Does single user license allow for use on multiple own computers ?

2) Also does it keep the time of the clip too along with the 'source' ?

3) Can we paste multiple entries (clips) too with 1click - alongwith custom predefined beginning string and ending string wrapped around each clip entry -

like -
BEGINS%clipentry%ENDS.

Robert Bull ClipMate has a "template" feature, which uses "tags" like #URL#, #CLIP#, #CURRENTDATE# in a text file to allow you to format the clip for subsequent pasting. I would have loved to have this when I was doing "Web research" for current awareness bulletins, as it would have saved a great deal of post-processing. Please, is there/will there be such a feature in ClipCache?

George Zapper I read that "ClipCache Pro license allows the use of both the portable and single-user versions."

But then I see "Single User" and "Portable" are priced separately.

"Today's ClipCache Pro promotion includes the following license types:
ClipCache Pro Single User ($14.97)
ClipCache Pro Portable ($14.97)"

I will buy ClipCache when the Deal becomes available but do I get
a license for both Single User and Portable?

John Williams Amit,

1) You can install on multiple computers if you own all the computers and are not running CC at the same time on each.

2) CC keeps the data you copied the clip and the date you last used (pasted) it. It also records the source program name and even the window title where the clip came from (this is useful because it usually contains the document title too.)

3) You can use the merge feature to combine multiple clips into one clip and add text to the beginning of each clip with special tokens for fields like the date etc.. You can then paste the clip.

John Williams George Zapper,

The portable and single-user CC is priced separately because they are separate downloads and are listed separately on eSellerate, that is the only reason for this. You receive a serial number (license) that you can use on both portable and single-user CC.

John Williams Robert Bull,

You can use the merge feature on one clip to have templates. It means doing a merge on each clip, then pasting it. I do not know all the placeholders that CM uses so can't say how CC compares with that.

Retired Engineer I've used ClipCache Pro (CCP) since 7/29/2011, and think very highly of it. It would be nice (for my work) to add an "Accumulate Clips" feature (with toggle ON/OFF switch on main window) which would allow a series of clips to be added, in the order they are copied, to the same CCP file.

Just a feature request for a future release.

Robert Bull John,
ClipMate's replaceable tags are "#CLIP#, #DATE#, #TIME#, #CREATOR# - source application, #TITLE# - clip title, #URL#, #CURRENTDATE# - right now, #CURRENTTIME# (ditto), #SEQUENCE# - sequence number - 1, 2, 3, etc..RESET from the templates menu." Its templates are plain text files with the tags and/or free text placed wherever you want, which is what makes it so useful. Different templates mean you can re-purpose an existing clip for multiple uses.

RPP.SysAdmin.a Does CC have the ability to "explode" a clip, this means break it up into multiple clips at a delimiter, such as the paragraph mark or tab? and going along with this, does CC have a "sequential paste" function, that would deliver one all the multiple clips, starting from the top going down or bottom going up? These functions are very useful in moving data between applications when that data is tabular or otherwise ordered. I think the CM terms for it are "explode" and "powerpaste" or such. Thank you.

Amit NOT directly to just clipcahe, but Generally the meaning of the (USER) license policy of some softwares which say - you can install this software on multiple OWN computers but the software must not be running on those own computers at the SAME TIME - is unclear.

Because normally people work on their main computer but dont shut their other computers / laptops. So means the software can be installed on all 2-3 of them and kept running too - but you should be actively using only one computer. Would that be correct ?
Otherwise if its closed on the other - whats the point ? Its no benefit to the software author at all.

Chad Biggerstaff Several years ago I went looking for a clip manager and most of the programs would screw up my pc occasionally freezing it or breaking clipboard functionality after so many clips captured. Then I found ClipCache and it worked flawlessly and continues to many years later.
I happened to clean mine out a few days ago, now only having 18 months of clips had 3 years before that, so many clips certainly slows down it's searches for past clips, but doesn't slow it down or have any noticeable impact otherwise. It's a great program there when you need it otherwise you don't know it's running.

Kelly Major I'm a collector of Clipboard Managers and I have yet to find the perfect one, although are far better than others. I plan to purchase todays deal, just one question first...

Another question about licensing. I appears I can purchase a CCP license and install the product on all of my computers which is an absolute must for this kind of tool for me. So that is good. The license information then goes on to state:

"You can install on multiple computers if you own all the computers and are not running CC at the same time on each."

Well, I often have more than one of my computers running at the same time so CCP would be running at the same time on more than one. To complicate matters even more I run my clipboard manager in my VMs as well. Often I copy something from the host or another VM to be pasted into another. So in that sense I'm not just running it on more than one computer at the same time but I'm, in a way, using on multiple computers at the same time.

Could you please clarify how your licensing applies to a situation like I have described?

Thanks! - KEM

John Williams Kelly,

I can't speak for other apps but CC uses the "clipboard format listener" when it's running under Vista or newer. This is the recommended method. It means that disconnects and badly written clipboard monitor tools should not adversely affect CC. Although I would never sate that this is 100% bullet proof because I'm relying on the OS after all.

The license text doesn't mention running at the same time. That is something that I said here but from looking again at the license that text is not present.

Kelly Major @John Williams

Thanks for your comments about how CC interacts with the clipboard. I just thought some people might find a little "inside info" about the clipboard interesting and help to explain why sometimes unexpected behaviors occur.

You're right, I did pick up that licensing text from one of your comments above. That's for pointing out the distinction.

I ordered CCP and added LinkStash on too. I'm looking forward to trying them out.

J T I've been using ClipCache since v2.9 and before. (My accessible license records date back only to 2005 at this time.)

CCP is the very first program I install on a new computer. I use it every day without exception.

I don't use the Paste function as I did in the earlier years because my needs have changed. As for clipping/saving data I need, selectively from websites or emails, or from dialogs which need an Alt+PrScr, or just some other 'info' I need to save, CCP is hands-down the BEST.

I've tried many other clipboard managers and related programs but NONE can match CCP for my purposes.

The developer has been responsive to user concerns and suggestions throughout the years.

Highly recommended!

Garrett Goyette SERIOUSLY...THE MOST USED PROGRAM ON MY DESKTOP. !
I bought the 5 user pack last go around. i use ClipCache to capture and record webpages as i surf. Then i go back later in the day or work to create folders and group and organize the clips i want. Way faster and more thorough than bookmarking which since it captures the URL is bookmarking already. In a way for the serious web researcher it replaces or enhances the use of Evernote and similar web based clickers mostly because saving a page is nearly instant in every situations whereas Evernote or hefty Ultrarecall can take as long as 30 seconds to respond. FORGET THAT. amzing how a sophisticated low price Clipboard monitor can work better than $100 info managers, phrase and text expanders. THIS IS A MUST HAVE UTILITY

Kelly Hamblin I signed up here just to comment on this application. I've used ClipCache Pro for the last years and love it. It's the best clipboard manager on the planet.

I write, therefore, I research. I copy/paste loads of pertinent information from the web. More importantly, I never lose all those pages and chapters that I've decided to trade out. While working, I leave the delete button alone and switch to CNTRL+X. Nothing is ever lost, and because ClipCache records the source, I can find anything again by running a search.

Most clipboard managers limit their storage, but I have unlimited space with ClipCache. Because of that, I use the app to file program design allows me be creative with how I use it and do use it for storage.

Mitchell Kastner I would lead a crusade to defend CliipCache Pro's honor. "Must have" "go to" and "indispensable" don't cut it. It is a matter of life and death for me as a writer/researcher. And I feel this way and I have not devoted the time necessary to master all of the program's features.

I do however have two wish-list requests, and I have not a clue how difficult it would be to implement them in the program even if John thought they were worthwhile:

I would like ClipCache to remove linebreaks automatically once the selected text was copied to the cllipboard and I would like to tag the itmes copied to the clipboard and then be able to search on those tags.

I also have a tech support question. Whereas cintanotes does copy the name of the pdf file as the title of each clip, ClipCache in my experience does not. What if anything can I do to make that happen?

It is a travesty to be able to purchase this life-saver for the price it is being offered. Beg borrow and steal the money to pay for this marvel.

carl thorpe I purchased this program the last time it was offered here on Bits. It is one of the better clipboard managers I have found.

However there are two issues that make me hesitant to recommend this wholeheartedly.

#1 - I submitted a support request through the developer's website on February 8th and never received a response. The issue is that I cannot past clips to Skype, as they turn into random Asian characters.

#2 - The most recent version of the program was released on December 19th, 2011. Is the program still under development?

Brad This is great software, the one piece of software I use everyday.

Simple to run, low resource overhead. Ctrl-Alt-S launches the program in an instant. My entire clipboard is available for the last year or longer readily available at my finger tips for quick pasting.

My favorite is the text cleanup you perform in a couple simple keystrokes to remove program specific formatting from copied text. Favorite clips are instantly brought to the screen with Alt-S.

Keyboard shortcuts combinations can be modified to customize your way of working. Extremely flexible and powerful. It's well worth $14.98.

Also Clicache is a better deal CM7 is $35 for single user 2 machines
also, i love Mitchels idea to be abe to have a Tag field, infact even a drop down list of TAGS to select from ( therefore a way to import lists of predefined TAGs to add. This would make CC an even better research tool.

Danny @John Williams,

Okay, that's then did it! But not satisfactory: There is every time like a flashable full screen, I had the opportunity to certain selected screen (pruned) want to save a website. That possibility has ClipMate 7 though and is also very easy to use! What do you mean no recent update to ClipMate 7???

Danny @Joe McCormick,

I know! I have a license of ClipMate 7! Have now a few days Clip cache Pro tested. Conclusion: it is not as user friendly, and I missing some features like screen capture with selection possibilities that ClipMate 7 though!! Therefore, I understand the many comments here not that claim ClipMate 7 seems to be neglected, and Clip Cache Pro is it heaven!

Alt Ctrl F12 is the key combination I use for screen capture in ClipMate 7. A set of cross hairs will pop up allowing you to lasso the part of the screen you want to capture.

Danny @Joe McCormick,

Which one do you use then now: ClipMate 7 or ClipCache Pro or both? What is your experience or opinion between these two?

Joe M Danny.
I use ClipMate 7.5.25 Build 135 Licensed for one user on two computers.
I purchased ClipCache Pro the last time it was here on BDJ. I do not use it as much as ClipMate. I have been using ClipMate since 2004.

They are both excellent programs. They seem to to similar things, but maybe in different ways. I am so used to ClipMate that I really have not taken the time to learn ClipCache Pro.

John Williams Windows 7 users can simply use the "snipping tool" that ships with Windows 7 out of the box. It allows various areas to be captured e.g free-form, rectangle, widow and full screen, which ClipCache captures. Failing that just use the printscreen key.

Scott Youngman Note that capturing screen shots and managing clipboard history are two different functions. ClipMate happens to have integrated the two into one program.

It's not difficult to do the same with ClipCache Pro -- just use a screen capture tool, whether the PrintScreen key, Win7's Snipping Tool, or one of the many free screen capture utilities which are available. The one I use is the last free version of FastStone Capture http://www.aplusfreeware....pture.html

Because so many tools are available for screen capture, I wouldn't make that the deciding point between ClipCache Pro and ClipMate.

Danny @John Williams,

That may well be true. But ClipMate has that feature opportunities themselves. And that I will find a lot more convenient, than to be dependent on Windows itself!

Terence Conroy Hi John,

For two days I have been clicking the "buy now" button on this page (which now says Buy at Retail) here at BDJ. As I stated above it brings up a window that is showing the family pack at 59.98 ( crossed out ) and a discount price of 29.98. When I click on the family pack it brings me to the checkout page that shows the price at 59.95.

I guess I will have to wait and see if this is offered in the future.

Thank you!

Garrett Goyette @Scott and Dan.. I would agree with Scott. Most screen capture utilities [many free] will offer more in depth feature..... auto numbering, screen, scrolling screen etc and since either of these clipboards will automatically record anything captured by these other programs..

No question that CM7 is more feature rich but on my desktop it is less stable... just crashed on me two mainutes ago when i was just trying to scroll. We have 5 machines in our household and i can now use my wife's machine and have some kind of decent clipboard recorder on her pc and it only cost $6

TopDog I abandoned CM7 because of the lack of support. It became unreliable with Windows 7 and there were no updates for years. On the CM7 forum it was indicated that development had stopped there would be no more updates. The last version I had was 7.3xx. Now all of a sudden there is a version 7.5? No thank you, when a program is abandoned for years I look for alternatives. ClipCache Pro costs less, is absolutely reliable and continues to be developed. I loved CM7 but when we the customers were left hanging when windows 7 came out I went elsewhere with out looking back.

Its important to me to have support and updates for a program I am supporting with my hard earned money. ClipCache Pro does that CM7 does not.

I to was about to abandon Clipmate 7 because of the lack of updates. That is why I bought Clip Cache Pro the last time it was BDJ. But just as I did, Clipmate 7 came out with an update to be compatible with Windows 8. I never had a problem with it in Windows 7 64 nor am I having any problems with in it on Windows 8 64. It has had about 4 minor updates this year already.

davidpaul @Joe,

Seeing that I am unable to get an answer from John regarding the possibility of exporting clips to CSV/XML, could you tell me if Clipmate comes with this function?

Thanks.

Danny Joe has here right! ClipMate 7 is compatible with the latest Windows platforms like Windows 7 and 8! And for the test I have a email support asked, less than 6 hours passed and have already been answered! That is very fast.

John Williams David, you may have missed my reply? I answered your question yesterday looking back up this thread. "David, I can confirm that export to CSV file is on the todo list and will be in the next major update."

John Williams Terence, would you like to click on the support link on our website. Then click email support and mention your name. I will handle this so you get the deal. I'm not sure why it isn't working for you. Very strange.

I just checked ClipMate 7. There is an Import and export setting for XML files, but I did not see anything for CSV files.
You can download the latest ClipMate 7 and use it for 30 days free to see if you like it. It is not continuous days but only days that you use the program according to the website.

davidpaul John,

My apologies. My browser did not refresh properly and I missed your reply. This is great news to me! Thank you so much for putting the export feature into an already superb clipboard manager. I'm eagerly looking forward to its release.

Once again, thank you. With this functionality, Clipcache Pro will be back in my stable of Must-Have utilities.

Cory Roberts Disappointed... why does this page still say 50% if the offer is expired? I had my wallet out to purchase but just put it back because it's full price. I may buy it eventually, but a sale price, even 25-30%, would probably be an instabuy.

EDIT: And of course, since I mentioned it, the price has been fixed.
