Thomas Klabunde @Michael Rigo:
A comparison with Truecrypt is lagging, because both use a different system (File-Based - Container). With TrueCrypt the communication over the network is unencrypted. When the container is open, the access to ALL files is possible (also over the network).
With abylon CRYPT in the BOX this is not the case and it also allows a simultaneous access to the data base for multible users. Otherwise, every program has as its advantages and disadvantages. Much also depends on personal preference.
Moreover, we provide with abylon CRYPTDRIVE (http://www.bitsdujour.com...yptdrive-2) also a container-based encryption solution.

I look forward to an honest debate. Here in the comments or at abylonsoft and BitDuJour on Facebook.

Note: Please forgive if I'm not online all the time on Sunday.

@Pinso Nagyal:
You're still a little too early. The promotion will start on Sunday, 13.10.2013.

PHILIMON ASIMOS Can this program protect files that managed by malicious deletion, if so, how?
From what I saw, files while asking password to open "protected files", I can normally delete them without a Password! (when program is not running)
This is a big problem at my opinion...

Thomas Klabunde Hi PHILIMON ASIMOS,
the software do not provide active protection against the destruction of the encrypted data.

This is in our opinion not the task of an encryption solution. This is the responsibility of the user himself, in which he always uses an appropriate up to date security software (antivirus, etc.), no deactivation of the security mechanisms of Windows (such as UAC) and periodically creates a backup of the data. Here alsothe advantage lies in the software abylon CRYPT in the BOX. The files are encrypted individually (not a complete huge container) and can be optimally secured by a backup software. If you change a file only one encrypted file is changed, causing the backup effort is reduced to a minimum.

We also no software is known by the way, which provides such protection.

Joe White Completely agree with Thomas here. that is the purpose of FS ACLs and other perms and such, not the purpose of an encryption solution.

PHILIMON ASIMOS Well I can understand that it isn't an encryption software role.
And In order to avoid any misunderstanding...
I don't said what I said because I want to reduce the application against "competitive" products.
Simply expressed my concern here, in the following thinking:
"If a program prevents opening files, why not for the deleting too?"
It's very usefull for me. And may for other users too...
So is there any chance to add this feature in the future?
Not because this kind of application it requires.
Simply because it can be useful... (lets say as an extra feature)
Oct 14 2013 at 5:41am Copy Link

Joe White Interestingly... it is quite akin to *nix filesystem DIRECTORY permissions as well, in that respect (The deletion vs. opening when taking into account the directory perms.) Even though you might not be able to even see a file in a directory or open it, if the perms are such that you can traverse the dir or write it, you can delete a file in it, so long as you know the filename anyway...

Thomas Klabunde Hi Joe! Hi Philimon!
First, many thanks for your suggestions. We will make our thoughts in this regard. Example, we see a problem in that hidden files are not recognized by backup programs.

Thomas Klabunde Hi,
thank yoiu for all comments.

@Jon Spain: Its the newst version. The years 2015 and 2016 were just not updated yet. Please visit www.abylonsoft.de for up-to-date information.

@Adam Bryan / @David Coleman: No one has to worry that he can not decrypt his data. We offer our software as shareware, which can be fully tested for 30 days. After this time can still be decrypted. Only the encryption is no longer possible. If a reinstallation is necessary, simply use the setup from our homepage.

@ALL: For further questions simply write here a comment or use the support form on our homepage. Please understand that we can not answer 24/7. But in a maximum of 2 business days everyone should have received his answer. Otherwise, ask again ...

Elliot Sloane Great software, BUT, the files, and complete file names, are still totally visible to Wondows file manager, search tools, etc. Doesn't make all that much sense that the file names aren't encrypted too. Is that an option we can set, or is that just a limitation of the tool?

Thomas Klabunde Hallo,

@Peter Martin: We offer our apps as a bundle at a special price. This includes 7 programs from us. Which you can see for example from our homepage under "Apps" or here in the shop:
https://www.cleverbridge....-at=100001

@Elliot Sloane: It is correct that the software abylon CRYPT in the BOX does not mask the file names. Maybe you should have a look at our software abylon SHAREDDRIVE: http://www.abylonsoft.com.../index.htm

If you have further questions, simply post here again or contact us directly via our contact form on our HP.

Nunya User Is this a time-limited trial giveaway? In other words, at some time in the future will the program you're giving us today stop working for any reason? Also, does it include free, future updates/upgrades? Thanks.

Diana User It is not time limited and it says that it is the Pro version but it also says that it is the giveaway version. So, I don't know what the difference might be from the version that they sell on the Abylonsoft website. You could contact Bitsdujpur or Abylonsoft to ask.

Nunya User In "The Fine Print" it says, License activation isn't required. what's this? (That's not a question.)

Under "what's this?" it says, License activation is a method used by software publishers to ensure that the software is *registered* to the correct end user.

Further on in "The Fine Print" it says, You *must* install/*register* the software within 1 month, and cannot do so afterwards.

My question is this; If I'm not required to activate the license, which is defined as registering the software, why does it then say that I must register the software?

This is confusing. Thanks.
May 10 2020 at 3:55pm Copy Link
0
Diana User My guess would be that "License activation isn't required" means that it will be limited in some way if you do not register. Often, the features will be limited or you will use the program in trial mode until the trial ends or you register, whichever comes first.

As far as the "You *must* install/*register* the software within 1 month, and cannot do so afterwards." goes, this is a little nasty drawback of many commercial software giveaways. I don't know why they do this but I have seen this numerous times. I'm sure that I have many software downloads on my laptop that have expired. I don't like this but what are you going to do, it's free commercial software.
May 10 2020 at 4:15pm Copy Link

Nunya User Thanks, Diana. I understand the difference between registering and not registering software.

I also know that most giveaways limit the time in which you have to register their software. I don't like it either. However, neither of those answers address my question.

In a nutshell I was asking, why does it first say I don't have to register the software, then it says I must register it?

This is probably more of a question for the developer, the publisher or BDJ. Do you represent one of them? Thanks again.
May 10 2020 at 4:31pm Copy Link

Diana User I would believe that you don't have to register it. Then it will be limited in some way. When it says that you do need to register it, that is so you will not have it limited. There is also the possibility that this is just an error in what is written. When I downloaded it, the site said 2015 and then said 2019. I wrote to bitsdujour to ask about this. They assured me that it was 2019 but it turned out to be 2020. I just went back to the site and it has been rewritten. Now everything says 2020.

Apr 19 2022 at 1:51am Copy Link

Thomas Klabunde @Jon Spain,
the question I do not quite clear.
All software from abylonsoft can be downloaded and installed at any time via our homepage. On the corresponding download pages, we also offer old versions. So you can also continue to use, for example, a 3-year-old license key, if the computer must be reinstalled.
However, this only applies to the commercial version. If you download and use the free version for privately used computers here, you can usually only install the downloaded setup for 4 to 6 weeks.

Richard User Same D/L problem as always at BDJ, using Chrome (I will not switch),
you have to right click on the d/l line/box for free version, then allow the d/l
when security says to discard. In other words, pay attention and it will d/l.

Constantin Florea @Richard User, For future promotions, please right click the Download button from the receipt email, then select "Copy Hyperlink" and paste the copied address/URL into the address field of preferably either Firefox or Edge and if that is not possible, then any other browser except for Google Chrome. That should start the download.

Richard User Constantin Florea, I tried what you said
-- from the "popped-out" WEB page for the free link --
and that worked just as you said. (I did not try the email button.)
Thanks.

The dialog box that says the following is what does not work correctly
or normally here.

"Your download will start in a moment.
If you do not see it click here"

After that it is a revolving door, same old (nothing)...

The free programs here are great, after you figure out how
to actually get to the D/L.
