What are people saying about DownloadStudio

Peter User Hi:

I noticed this comment: "All downloads are automatically redirected to DownloadStudio for ultra-fast downloading."

This would suggest that there is some sort of tracking of downloads. So: ---

* How long does this information stay on the DownloadStudio servers and their backups?

* To whom is this information released?

* And under what conditions?

I wonder if this could be clarified?

Thank you

Peter

Paul Schumann Hi Peter,

Thanks for the question.

Neither DownloadStudio or Conceiva record any downloading information on our servers. No information about your downloads or your usage is sent to *any* server. We certainly respect privacy.

To clarify statement "All downloads are automatically redirected to DownloadStudio for ultra-fast downloading." - this means that DownloadStudio automatically catches all the download links in your web browser (IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.) and downloads the files for you rather than using your web browser's (slower) download window. This provides accelerated downloading, lets you resume broken downloads and lets you organize your downloads.

Hope it helps. Sorry if the text was not 100% clear.

Best regards,

Paul Schumann

John Stonnington Can DownloadStudio get flash video from youtube?
Jun 30 2008 at 12:02pm Copy Link

Paul Schumann Yes, DownloadStudio does download flash video from youtube and all other web sites that have flash video (FLV) such as google video, sharkle, crackle, blennus and more.

FYI - we're just about to release DownloadStudio v5.0 in a few weeks. It has tons of new stuff including improved downloading from youtube, google video, rapidshare, and many other sites. Other improvements are Windows XP/Vista 64 bit support , Firefox 3.0 support, Opera 9.5 support and much more.

Best news is that it will be a FREE upgrade to registered users. So this deal is a great way to get the latest version of DownloadStudio.

Kevin Purcell I have tried this now for several hours and it is very good. In fact, it beats my current (paid for) download manager hands down. Download Studio downloaded everything I tried - even the files that were driving me crazy. One question - I want to download radio broadcasts (live streams). Can Download Studio get these?

Thanks, KP

Paul Schumann Hi Kevin,

Glad you like DownloadStudio! DownloadStudio does download live broadcasts - both from Windows streaming servers and Shoutcast servers.

Jim Lette I reviewed the site and this seems like great software especially at this discount price. In my opinion the inclusion of conversion saving with the same software package would make this the ultimate software available in this category. Thanks for the opportunity to purchase at a discount.

Paul Schumann Hi Jim,

DownloadStudio includes a program called DownloadStudio Audio/Video Capture that allows you to capture any video playing on your computer or any music playing on your computer. You can save these captured video/audio files as different formats.

In addition, we also have a partner product called ConvertHQ that converts to and from all audio and video file formats. So you have plenty of conversion options.

Thanks for your interest & hope you enjoy using DownloadStudio!

Paul.

Paul Schumann Hi Trevor,

DownloadStudio works with all popular web browsers - Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Netscape and Mozilla. Go to the Options dialog in DownloadStudio to integrate it into your browser.

The upcoming 5.0 version (free upgrade) adds support for the latest versions of these browsers and some new ones such as Flock.

Paul Schumann Hi Scott,

Yes. You can configure DownloadStudio to remember remember previously downloaded files. There is a "synchronize' setting so that DownloadStudio will only download a file if it has not already been downloaded or if the file to be downloaded is newer than the file on your computer. Let me know if that's you're after.

Paul Schumann Hi Frank,

Glad you like DownloadStudio ;)

All minor upgrades are free. These include bug fixes and minor enhancements. Major upgrades contain new features, new operating system support, etc. These major upgrades are decided on a case-by-case basis. Having said that, to date, we have not charged for *any* upgrade so far and have no plans to. We're now up to v5.1.2. The next release will be a free upgrade.

Mike G One feature would, all by itself, make DownloadStudio a worthwhile purchase for me. Can it keep track of each download (by URL and/or file name/type), associate it with a particular location on my local file system and then automatically download to that folder every time?

Instead of downloading everything to one folder, I keep files neatly organized in a structured hierarchy of folders. Makes it easy to locate one type of download among hundereds. The downside is I have to navigate to the correct folder every time.
Aug 3 2010 at 2:36pm Copy Link
0
Paul Schumann Hi Mike,

DownloadStudio does let you choose your folder when downloading files.  It also keeps a history of folders that you have previously chosen so you can quickly choose your favorite.

In addition, DownloadStudio uses categories to organize all your downloads.  Once a file is downloaded, you can find it in categories like software, images, web sites, etc.   This makes it real easy to find and organize your files.  Organizing into categories happens automatically.  You can create you own categories, move files between them, etc.

I suggest you try the 15-day trial version.  It's fully featured and will let you decide if you like it or not, before this great deal starts on the 10th August.

Mike G Okay, after using the full-featured trial for a couple days, I have to say I'm DEFINITELY getting DownloadStudio. Confirmed that it can automatically save downloads to whatever folders I specify based on URL (Site rules) or categories/file types. You can also fully integrate DownloadStudio with IE, Chrome, Firefox and other browsers to manage download activity per your specifications. I was already sold at this point, but continued to be surprised by other features I didn't expect.  When Conceiva says this downloads virtually anything they don't mean just the usual stuff your browser already handles. DownloadStudio can even record and save streaming video/audio sources to a variety of formats! Worked flawlessly during my testing. If I hadn't found DS, it would have meant buying a whole separate application to get this capability. BDJs (Bits fans), this is feature-packed software developed by people who are obviously passionate about what they're doing. I only jump in and heap praises on software a few times a year. DownloadStudio seems destined for my list of exceptional favorites (more exclusive than my normal favorites list!).

bob roos I downloaded and partially installed the trial version. It wants to install WinPcap. I already have it for WireShark and 1) I am concerned that the version you want to install might conflict with WireShark's use of WinPcap and 2) I am concerned about a performance hit if DownloadStudio is sniffing at all internet traffic. I tried to cancel the installation and it won't cancel. The cancel button is greyed out. What about making "sniffing" optional so that during the installation WinPcap does not have to be installed?

Martin E At your website http://www.conceiva.com/p...atsnew.asp  it says that the new in DownloadStudio 6.0.3.0 is improved support for latest web browsers including Safari. I use Safari in Windows 7 but after I installed the DownloadStudio trial I noticed that Safari was not supported in the program. Is Safari supported or not or am I doing something wrong because it's not working for me? If it's not supported, will it be in a future version and how long will it take until that version is released?

S B I used an older version of DownloadStudio in 2008 and 2009 on a computer long since replaced.

DownloadStudio *really* accelerated downloads, grabbing all available download bandwidth to squeeze out every bit of possible speed.  It also allowed downloads to be monitored and restarted in the middle--and it was fun to watch its progress monitor show its file reconstruction in process.  DownloadStudio was a special blessing for very large files.

That was with an old version--I've got to find out what to do to resurrect/license the latest version on my current computers.

Reliable and recommended.
Aug 8 2010 at 7:32am Copy Link
0
Paul Schumann Hi Bob,

Just to answer your concerns - 1) DownloadStudio and Wireshark work together fine on the same computer, 2) DownloadStudio does not sniff traffic all the time - it only sniffs when you run the included "URL Sniffer" tool that is a part of DownloadStudio.

Paul Schumann Hi Martin,

The current version of DownloadStudio has cookie support for Safari, meaning it can access your Safari cookie jar when downloading URLs.

We do plan to support click monitoring (or taking over download clicks) in Safari in an upcoming version.

Paul Schumann Hi S B,

If you own a previous version, then just download the latest version from our web site and it will upgrade your current version to the latest version.  If you cannot find your serial/license key, email us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com, and we will retrieve it for you.

Also, just a note for Bits du Jour members, all our upgrades for all major and minor versions over the years have been *free*.  We do not plan to change this for the next major version.

Paul Schumann Hi Martin,

There will be a new version (v6.0.4) released in a week.  It's a free upgrade, and contains various fixes and improvements - but no Safari direct downloading as yet.  Our engineers will need some time to get Safari direct downloading working, so I don't think it will be within a month.

_*_ Paul, can you tell me if there is any DRM attached to this product (e.g. limited activations, SecuRom, etc.)?

Thank you
Aug 8 2010 at 3:09pm Copy Link
0
Paul Schumann Hi M B,

DownloadStudio does not contain any DRM or embed any DRM on any files that you download.  So, if the file that you want to download does not have DRM, then it will not have DRM after you download it with DownloadStudio.  The registered (purchased) version of DownloadStudio does not contain any limitations (e.g. activations, etc.)  The free trial version that can be downloaded from our web site is limited to 15-days of use.  That's the only limitation.

Mike G I'm working with Conceiva on a couple issues. In one case it was just me needing to pay closer attention to what I was doing. Issues still under investigation include downloads that involve multiple domains and possible problems with the Chrome extension (Chrome has only recently added support for extensions).

Support has been very responsive on all these issues giving me confidence that all will be resolved. I remain enthusiastic about purchasing DownloadStudio based a really great feature set, good overall design, active development and excellent support.

All our upgrades for all major and minor versions over the years have been *free*.  We do not plan to change this for the next major version.

We do reserve the right to charge for future major versions - only for the circumstance where we include a new technology/component in DownloadStudio that requires us to pay a license fee.  Having said all of that, we have no plans to include any fee-based technology/components or charge you for any future upgrades.

Louis H Wow. Sometimes I am too much a creature of habit. I have been using the same download manager (Mass Downloader) for quite a few years now and have been happy with it for what it does. I've debated every now and then about switching to another such program, but honestly never pushed myself to get around to it.

So why not give today's offer a try, eh?

I immediately noticed a marked improvement with DownloadStudio over Mass Downloader - not only in the number of types of files it can download, but in the speed. Enough of a difference that I am picking this one up to get today's discount. This is what I like the most (and dislike the most?) about BitsDuJour.... It introduces me to programs I might otherwise never bother giving a try. Not all of them end up in my toolbox, but I've bought others through these offerings that are now a daily part of my computing.

Thank you to Concevia for offering DownloadStudio today.

eSellerate can be *really* slow to download files from, so that may explain why it is slower than your original download - even using a download manager like DownloadStudio.  Remember that download speed is not just your internet connection but also the web site that you are downloading from.  A good test is to download a file from a web site using your web browser, and then download it again using your download manager.  You should see a speed increase if all the factors like congeston, etc. are the same.  Send us an email if you need any further help or explanation.

Paul Schumann Hi Phaedron E,

The Audio/Video Capture tool included in DownloadStudio does take snapshots and record audio, but then it saves the raw audio/video into formats like WMV, MP3, etc. so that, for example, a 100GB raw audio/video file becomes a 3MB video.  The 100GB raw video is temporary and discarded after recoding & saving.  I suggest you try it and see how it performs for you.

You can install DownloadStudio on multiple computers that you own - but you can only run DownloadStudio on one computer at any one time.  If you wish to run DownloadStudio on multiple computers at the same time, then you will need to purchase multiple licenses.

DrTeeth Been trialling the software and even if I only use it for 10% of its potential, it's a winner.

I do have reservations about how it saves files (keeps on placing a default instead of my chose for file name and folder) which would be a deal breaker if it were not for the discount. Developer has been contacted.

Ron K I should probably take this to the DownloadStudio forum, but is there a way to enforce a pause between files being downloaded in batch? i.e. I am downloading a range of jpg files from a Web site. I'd like it to download 1 file, and pause for 1 minute. Download next, pause for 1 minute, etc. I must be overlooking the setting, but I have been through nearly every options page trying to find it.

gail f This looks really great and I am getting it.

Is there a way to "filter" certain file types (like just show .pdf and .doc?) in the Site Explorer? I see how to filter in the download jobs--but then it downloads everything automatically and you really don't have a clue if you want those files or not. Plus you have to click open a ton of folders to see what it there.

I use Medusa for tasks like this: it previews the filtered files you want per site, and then you can decide which, if any, to download. Perhaps I just missed it in the instructions. Seems like I need parts of 2 different features.

Thanks!

Glad you like DownloadStudio.  Site Explorer lists all links it finds on a web page.  If you are just interested in certain types of link (say DOC or PDF), then click the "Type" column header (or, even better, the "MIME" Type column header) in Site Explorer to sort the list of links and you will see all the DOC and PDF links grouped together.  You can select them as a group (using Shift + click) and then download them all in one shot.  If you have any troubles, please send us an email (support [at] conceiva.com) and we'll help you out.

And now I need to ask again (nothing on licensing available from company website!):
1. Any DRM or hardware footprint used?
2. Can I uninstall from one computer and then install on another one?
3. Any limits for such operations?
4. Is active internet connection necessary when installing / uninstalling?

Paul Schumann Hi Kevin,

Minor updates are free. Major new versions are determined on a case-by-case basis. To date, all major new versions have been free, and the next one will be also.

We update DownloadStudio very often as we (and our users) find new sites or files to be downloaded.

DownloadStudio works perfectly with premium accounts for all file sharing sites - including Megaupload and Rapidshare. It can really help accelerate your downloads from these sites.

Paul Schumann Hi M M,

Some answers:

1. DownloadStudio contains no DRM. It requires no special hardware footprint, other than the normal computer system requirements listed on our web page (www.downloadstudio.com).

2. You can uninstall DownloadStudio on one computer and install on another computer.

3. No limits on operations. Our license states that you purchase a license to only use DownloadStudio on one computer at any one time.

4. Internet connection is not necessary for installing or uninstalling. When uninstalling, your web browser does display a feedback page - but that's optional to fill out anyway.

Paul Schumann Hi Tore,

If you have downloaded a HTML page using DownloadStudio and then try to open thedownloaded HTML file on your PC, then your web browser may warn you about missing scripts. DownloadStudio has downloaded the HTML page, but maybe you also need to download the accompanying script files. Try downloading the web page again but, rather than as a single file download, try downloading it as a web site with 0 link depth. That should download all the scripts and images for the page. If you still have problems, send an email to support [at] conceiva [dot] com, and we'll help you out.

S B I used an earlier version of DownloadStudio on another machine a few years ago, and found it very helpful, professional, and well-conceived and nicely realized.

For each file to download it launched a large, settable number of independent downloads, capturing more of the available bandwith, keeping me watching its informative and graphic UI as the threads progressed and data coalesced, and if necessary, allowing me to resume or re-download. I remember that it speeded up large downloads -- and especially made very large uncertain downloads more reliable because they often could be resumed.

Apparently there are many more features and capabilities in today's version. I just do not know if it has competition.

Time to use it again!

Michael R. I bought and DownloadStudio in a BDJ-event some month ago and replaced my former freeware-download utility by it and am quite happy with it. But I have not used extensively the additional features beside downloading yet.

I have the following task for DownloadStudio:

Given a web-address with links (e.g. in form of hyperlinks or thumbnail-pictures) to audio/images/video-files, I want DownloadStudio to download all these files and save them automatically under the same not-yet-used index-prefix.

Is this directly or indirectly -ve.g. from inside a batch-file or external-program using DownloadStudio by using some commands of it - possible.

Let's clarify it with an example:
On the given web-address, e.g. www.my_address.com/albums/album1 are links to some mp3-files which (in our example) have all the same basic-filename, e.g. sound.mp3 (but in different ftp-directories). Assuming my destination directory is empty at start, I want all these mp3-files are saved automatically at once: My goal would be the files are downloaded and renamed automatically, preferable in files named 0000_000_sound.mp3, 0000_001_sound.mp3, ... The first prefix, here 0000 , the main-index, should increase each time a new web-address is given, the second should increase with each file on this web-address to be downloaded. Doing above on another web-address would result in files 0001_000_sound.mp3, 0001_001_sound.mp3. (The template for creating new file-names could be something like {main-index:4}_[second_index:3}_{filename}.* (I think you know what I mean).

So, can DownloadStudio support me in doing this in any way?
May 29 2011 at 6:15pm Copy Link

Paul Schumann Hi Michael,

DownloadStudio is unique among download managers in that it can not just download a single file or video from a web site, but also download a complete web site or just certain files on a web site that you want. That's useful if you want all the music or video from a site. You simply create a new download job in DownloadStudio and make it a site job. Then you specify how many levels into the web site you want to go and the type of files you want to download. If you are unsure, please contact us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com, and our customer support staff will help you to create the right download job.

Paul Schumann Hi Zsolt,

A few things to check (taken directly from our FAQ page):

* Make sure you have installed the DownloadStudio Plug-ins into Opera. To install them, go to the Options (Opera Page) dialog box in DownloadStudio and click the Install Changes Into Opera button. This will install the DownloadStudio plug-ins into Opera.
After installing, close all copies of Opera and start a new instance of Opera.

* To check that the plug-ins have been installed correctly into Opera, click the Tools/Advanced/Plug-ins menu item in Opera. It will show all plug-ins that are installed in Opera. Make sure that you see DownloadStudio Click Catcher listed. You may see several - one for each set of files that you want to catch. For each DownloadStudio plug-in, you will see what MIME types/file types it is capable of catching.

* Make sure that the File Types are actually using the correct DownloadStudio Click Catcher plugin. In Opera, click Tools/Preferences to display the Preferences dialog box. Go to the Advanced tab and click "Downloads". Double-click on each MIME type/File type that you want the DownloadStudio Click Catcher is designed to catch. In the File type dialog box, click the "Use plug-in" radio button and choose "DownloadStudio Click Catcher".

* It's possible another plug-in (often another download manager) is also using click monitoring and interfering with DownloadStudio. Make sure this is not selected in the File types properties for the MIME type/File type. You may need to remove these plug-ins from Opera's "plugins" folder to completely remove their click monitoring

Paul Schumann Hi Marcos,

DownloadStudio uses Winpcap to find URLs that you may want to download. It is used by the URL Sniffer tool in DownloadStudio and is very handy to find things like video URLs that are hard to get. You should install it ;)

HJ B It is not indicated on the promotional blurb or at the vendor's website whether this program, if provided with the information, can negotiate password access, and automate selective downloads from password protected sites.

For example, if am an authoized person to access a site, and I wish to download 24 specific pdfs, can I give this program the links for the pdfs and the site username/password, and will the program then proceed to gain access, and capture the material, just as I would be able to do on an item by item basis?
Nov 8 2011 at 2:39am Copy Link

Paul Schumann Hi HJ B, Yes, you can set passwords for individual downloads or for sites in DownloadStudio. For individual downloads, just enter the username and password in the download job window. For sites, you can create a site rule that contains username, password and other aspects of the site such as maximum number of simultaneous connections, etc.

HJ B @Paul Schumann
Thanks for your prompt reply.

This application can be used with or without integration with a browser. I tried using the password function, in the stand along mode, and it did not succeed. I supplied a list of targetted links at the site. I suspect that it works with varying success, depending upon the protective features of each site.

I then integrated it into my browser, and navigated into the site, and then activated DLS. It started downloading, but without benefit of a targetted list, and, of course, I got a lot of material that I was not interested in,

Is there a pdf manual that provides detailed instruction as to how the to best use DLS? I know you have a help screen form of information, but help screens do not serve well as manuals or for instruction..
Nov 8 2011 at 4:51am Copy Link

Paul Schumann Hi HJ B, There are two types of password techniques used by web sites - those that use passwords via HTTP and those that use cookies to store session-based cookies. Your test just now failed most likely since the site is using session-based cookies. If you log in to the site using your web browser and (keeping your browser open) then use DownloadStudio to download files from the site, then DownloadStudio will read the session-based cookies from your web browser and all will work fine. This is explained in detail in our help, or you can ask our customer support team via email or post a question on our user forum. Sorry, we don't have a PDF manual. If you have any further troubles, just contact us and we'll get you up and running quickly.

Christina Reuter Question for Developer

Is it possible to have MSFT Security Essentials or Malwarebytes scan the download? IE 9's native download function seems to do that automatically. What about Download Studio?

I installed the trial version of DLoadStudio. But I was using the freeware FlashGet, which has very annoying ads. So, your DownloadStudio is attractive. But my only concern is the speeds of FlashGet vs DwnldStdio. I tested both by downloading the same file of 7.78 MB. FlashGet claimed 652 Kbs vs DlStdio avg 519 Kbs.

If DLoadStudio is the fastest download manager, what accounts for its slower speed in comparison to FlashGet?

Christina Reuter Thank You Conceiva for your Offer Today.

I tried Download Studio and bought it. It is a superior replacement for FlashGet. Although DownloadStudio doesn't seem to download quite as fast as FlashGet, I love DldStdio's many great features. Plus, unlike FlashGet, no ads!

Again thank you, Conceiva!

Paul Schumann Hi Christina,

You can integrate your security software or malware scanner (or any other program) into DownloadStudio when a file is downloaded. Go to the Options dialog (Post Processing page) and enter your programs there.

Flashget may report a faster speed than DownloadStudio but be careful with this claim - in our tests, DownloadStudio consistently downloaded the file to disk faster than FlashGet. I would ignore claimed speeds as they can be easily be incorrectly stated (inflated?). The true test is when is the file fully downloaded to your harddisk.

Hope you like using DownloadStudio! Contact us if you have any problems.

@HJ B
I am not sure about your purpose but downloading pdfs from some sites is not really possible with Download studio. Specifically, I am not able to download any banking/credit card statements from financial sites. There have been discussions on this topic on the DownloadStudio forums but no solution. The vendor offers polite and hopefully helpful advice but to no avail.

I think the problem is difficult to solve. I would appreciate a frank response from the vendor over statements that imply we should be able to download banking statements. If in fact, it is possible, it woudl be a good idea to provide and example for a major bank where this has worked.

In general, I find that Download studio only works for simple downloads. In these cases the software works very well. If the link is to some java script that eventually puts your document in a pop-up window then forget any automation.

I find that download studio has limited usefulness in downloading audiostreams of quarterly financial calls. It will not download the file but it will do an audio capture which you can save. This is similar to other "radio" recording software.

I subscribe to magazines that publish pdfs and it is a chore to download those pdfs. Download studio does not make it easy to automate the download these files either.

It works! ... but no where near as well as the vendor implies.
Maintain low expectations.

Paul Schumann Hi Prasad,

Thanks for your feedback. I just read the forum post about downloading bank statements and Brent's response is accurate - (i) it is difficult to know exactly how to download them as we cannot log into your bank's web site to see your account and the structure of the files/links, and (ii) DownloadStudio can download files from secure sites (https://) so that is not the reason for your problems. If you want further help, please do contact us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we're happy to help so that you can get your statements, PDFs and audio streams. Some web sites are difficult to download from and in these cases it is best to just contact us so we can help determine the best way to download the content you are after. Techtoysavvy Thanks, I will contact support later this month when I begin year end planning. ... but ... I would appreciate some examples on your site that show your software working with ANY major US bank. I have tried on almost every major financial site or utility and I have not manged to get any download software to work. (I tried others :)

What spooks me is that I have not found an example of anyone being able to accomplish this with any software.

I think this problem is fundamentally hard becuase of they way the content is delivered or because it is intentional. I suspect that these files and links are generated dynamically from an underlying database and do not use a simple flat file structure with a link to statement.pdf

I have accounts at most major financial institutions such as Wells Fargo, BofA, Chase, Citibank, Schwab and I have not been able to download my statements. I would like to go green and have your software autodownload my statements from AT&T, Comcast as well as 5-10 other places that I have statements or bills. This would be great to get my payroll statements downloaded or my tax documents etc.

The only service I have that comes close only works for bills or credit cards. This is Paytrust, formerly with Citibank and now with Intuit.

David H (Seattle) I went ahead and bought both DownloadStudio and Mezzmo based on how their features & reviews met my needs (no time to test that day) - and now I'm glad to say that in my first test, DLS worked great and was totally intuitive. I started the URL sniffer, opened in the browser the page I was having trouble downloading, and bada-bing, there was the URL for the flash video I was trying to get, right in the sniffer window (out of 574 URLs embedded in the page!). Right-clicked to download, and down it came! EXACTLY as I'd hoped. Can't wait to dig out some other old files I never could get ;) Now I have even higher hopes for Mezzmo...

The upcoming version that we are currently developing, DownloadStudio v8.0, will also let you download RTMP streams so it will let you grab videos from many other popular video sites that use RTMP as their streaming protocol. DownloadStudio v8.0 will be a free upgrade to all registered users and will be released in the coming months.

Gonzo @Conceiva

A couple of questions prior to my purchase:
1-Does it only integrate to each browser in the context menu? Or does it also include a Plugin/add-on for each browser?

2-In your website you state: "Download from all popular website" and you mention Rapidshare. Does DownloadStudio download from Rapidshare as a premium user? Does it support resuming a download from Rapidshare even if I'm not a premium user?

3-Any plans for a GNU/Linux version?

Also, you may want to remove Megaupload as a supported website... it was taken down some time ago ;)
Apr 24 2012 at 3:16am Copy Link

Paul Schumann Hi Gonzo,

All good questions. Some answers:

1. DownloadStudio has right-click (context) menus in all the web browsers and also has plugins/addins for taking over downloads/detecting video urls/etc.. Integration is fully configurable.

2. DownloadStudio downloads from RapidShare as a premium or non-premium user. Resuming downloads from RapidShare as a non-premium user is tricky as the download URL has such a short lifetime (controlled by RapidShare).

3. No plans for a GNU/Linux version.

4. Megaupload may be back one day if they win their court case. I wish them every success :)

David H (Seattle) I use DLS several times per day; it has become indispensible! I got it to download some tough-to-save content, but the URL-sniffer in DLS made it as easy as loading the webpage and finding the right entry; DLS made this fast & easy. That was why I bought DLS, but I use it more now for its multi-thread download - almost everything is faster because most servers will send multiple streams, and DLS will even show each of them! It has a most-recent list for folders where things go, making it fast and easy to keep things sorted right from the start, and can open the folder or file when it is done. In short, DLS streamlines and/or condenses many of the operations I was already doing, in a very nice way. One of those purchases I am daily grateful for! I also bought Mezzmo at the same time, but have not yet taken time to explore it as much.

Bradley MacDonald Paul, I already had a license of Download Studio from a few years ago. However, at $12 per license - it was a no brainer to get the new version. It has really improved over the years. It is great for just downloading large files (I think you have five threads downloading at once to allow for a much faster download) - but it is so easy to download content from web sites in general. The ability to right click on a youtube page and just download the MP3 or MP4 (Full video) is truely amazing!!!
A very useful tool. I would recommend this to anyone out there... For $12 it is a steal

Each gives you plenty of options for scraping sites for images, videos, etc. If you need help, just contact our support crew via our support [at] conceiva [dot] com email address.

a a The licence policy tab states that it's licenced per computer. Does this mean I need multiple licences if I want to use it on my other PC's (eg. laptop), or do you allow one user to use on up to 5 machines ?

One of your competitors, IDM, has a page explaining how their Dynamic Segmentation works. Does DownloadStudio work in a similar way, or is the number of threads just decided when the link is added to the download list ?

Can the number of download threads be manually increased/decreased, including while it's downloading ?

Will v8 support downloading other media formats over RTMP (eg. .mov) ?

Paul Schumann Hi aa,

Some answers:

1. One purchase/license of DownloadStudio lets you run DownloadStudio on one computer at one time.

2. DownloadStudio uses segments (we call them splits). You can specifiy how many to use when you create a download job, and DownloadStudio uses them dynamicallt/optimally to provide peak downloading speed. We believe we have the fastest downloader on the market today.

3. You can increase/decrease the number of download jobs, the number of internet connections and the number of download job splits. This give you full control when downloading from sites that limit your connections, etc.

4. In v8, you can download any file format over RTMP (not just flash video).

a a Re. (2), suppose one segment is downloading slowly, and another segment finishes, will DS re-task the free segment to start downloading half of the remaining slow segment, without having to recoonect/login again for this segment ?

You can see what I'm talking about if you go to the IDM features page and click the "Dynamic Segmentation and Performance" link at the bottom right. I just wanted to know if DS works in a similar way ?

Re. (3), I meant can you increase/decrease the number of segments a download job uses ?

Does DS allow you to add multiple source links for a single file, so if there are problems with one link, DS would use one of the other links ?

This could be further improved if DS monitored the speed of some links, and tried alternative source links to see if they were faster. If they were, it would switch.

a a Thanks for taking the time to respond to all my questions!

What happens if a job is resumed (after being paused), and the download link no longer works (eg. file no longer exists) ? Does DS reset the job, or does it remember it's position and keep the partially downloaded file ?

I'm, asking because it's related to my feature request below...

Please can you add support for using alternate source links for downloads, as occassionally I have paused downloads so I can switch my PC off, and when I try to resume, the original download link no longer works. Instead of having to start the download from the beginning when the original link no longer works, it's very useful to be able to add alternate download links so that the download can continue from where it was paused.

Or is it possible to modify the download link of a paused job and then resume from the paused position ?

SoftCollector Dear Paul,

1. Please, confirm that buyers of v7 here will receive v8 as a free upgrade.
2. It seems that DownloadStudio cannot automatically detect Google Chrome (the browser is not listed as an option for integration after installation). Further, I tried to manually direct DS to Chrome in Program Files under Windows XP, and then install the extension, but Chrome refused it – 'extensions can only be installed through Chrome Web Store'. Please, comment.
3. Also: during the installation of DS it found out that 'newer files were already present' and aborted the installation of that component – so why is DS being shipped with 'older' components aboard?

Paul Schumann Hi Amit,

You can export information about all (or just selected) downloads as XML. The XML file contains all information that you entered for each selected download - including url, referer, time, etc.

Paul Schumann Hi SoftCollector,

Some answers:

1. Yes - all registered users of DownloadStudio will get a free upgrade to DownloadStudio v8.

2. Google Chrome recently changed the way they let plugins be installed. See this forum post to install DownloadStudio into Google Chrome: http://forum.conceiva.com...in-support

3. I guess the components you were alerted to were some MS runtime DLLs that DownloadStudio is installing. We'll check it out.

DrTeeth I cannot speak highly enough of this product and the developers. They are very responsive to the changes, say, that YouTube makes that breaks the DLS video download feature. They were also *very* quick to fix Firefox plugin issues.

This is a program that you will be happy to own and use. Buy it!

Paul Schumann Hi Danny,

Firstly, it is best you try the 15-day trial of DownloadStudio to get your own opinion if you like it or not. Our design philosophy for DownloadStudio has always been to provide users with all the tools get any file on the internet in one well-designed program. So with DownloadStudio, you get all the tools to download video files, music, compressed files, programs, images, etc. Another important aspect is to download files fast. If you are downloading (say) a 10GB 1080p HD video, this can take a long time, so any speed improvement can save you many hours. We believe DownloadStudio is the fastest downloader on the web. We have an FAQ about this - http://www.conceiva.com/p...p#Features. Regarding languages, DownloadStudio currently has English, French, Spanish, Russian, Polish, Ukraine, and Czech.

If possible, kindly try to include this feature in the upcoming versions or v8 -

Saving the comments + some info ( as referrer url and time ) as an additional .txt file in the same download folder.
This feature really helps a lot in saving information - if many files are downloaded regularly.

Johno Hi, there is a free downloader add on for Firefox called 'Easy Youtube Downloader 6.6' which allows you to specify what quality level you want actually downloaded.
You can choose from various formats (*.flv, *.mp4, *.mp3 etc.) and with for instance with *.mp4 files you can specify 720HD or 1080HD.

Does DownloadStudio allow you to specify the quality of the video that is going to be downloaded ?

Does DownloadStudio recognize different file formats being loaded and once setup automatically place them in folders that have been specified ? - and if it does that is it capable of performing any other/further (predefined) actions to files ?

Thanks,
Johno.

I have a problem with 2 dll files when using 'url sniffer':

After installing those 2 dll files I keep getting the error:

"...The procedure entry point PacketGetReadEvent could not be located in the dynamic link library packet.dll.."

What am I doing wrong? I am using windows 7 64Bit freshly reinstalled from a clean image and all the updates installed to this date.

Paul Schumann Hi r@r,

You are permitted to install DownloadStudio on several computers in your home, but you can only run it on one computer at any one time.

When you install DownloadStudio, the installer prompts you to also install WinPcap. You should also install WinPcap as it is used for the DownloadStudio's URL Sniffer application to find download URLs that you are interested in. If you choose to not install WinPcap, then you will see errors like you are getting. I'd suggest uninstalling and re-installing DownloadStudio again - this time, making sure you install WinPcap. If still a problem, let us know and we'll help out.

I'm not sure what is the problem with the VAT number processing. Our e-commerce partner is eSellerate (Digital River). Brad Hi Paul

I tried to order your program tonight through PayPal but got an error so I am unsure whether it went through. Sent an email to shopperesellerate.net but no response. Do not want to risk a double transaction. I know it successfully reached PayPal as it returned to the final transaction screen, however upon submission it immediately returned with the error message below.

Are you having problem processing PayPal transactions?

Error: We are sorry, but your order cannot be processed. Before trying the order again, please contact shopperesellerate.net and let us know the name you entered for your order.

Can you determine if it reached your end. Otherwise I will wait till shopperesellerate.net returns a message to me.

Paul Schumann Hi John,

You have full control over the size & quality of the YouTube video that will be downloaded from YouTube and this also indicates the file type that will be downloaded. The available quality levels (from lowest to highest quality) are SD, HQ, HD, HD-1080p. YouTube does not necessarily have have all quality levels available for all videos, but DownloadStudio will try and get the video closest to the quality level you select. The HD and HD-1080p will typically download .MP4 videos and the SD and HQ will typically download .FLV videos.

Brad Hi Paul,

I tried once again, second attempt to purchase through PayPal unsuccessful also. Prior to making the second attempt I went to my PayPal account to see if anything was amiss but everything is good. The transaction fails when it comes back after validating my account with PayPal, at the point of final submission it returns with the same error message noted above. So I am going to try making the purchase via the Chrome browser instead of newly installed Firefox browser, I cannot imagine that being the issue but as long as you will refund the transactions if they come through afterwards then I will make another final attempt. I would just make the purchase via a credit card but I use PayPal to limit my exposure, and I purchase things all the time using my PayPal account. I even logged into my backup bank account with PayPal to see if money was available and no issue. Does esellerate have any issue with my PayPal account userid being linked to a free gMail account?

I let you know how it goes.

I just noticed that I am getting another error message along with the previous error noted above,

Firefox is saying: The page isn't redirecting properly.

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

So whatever that means. Let me try Chrome.

Thanks, Brad

Brad Hi Paul,

The third attempt though PayPal failed once again, eSellerate contacted me and stated that it would be 72 hours before they could figure out what was happening with my order and why it was failing through PayPal. I'm very confident that the issue is not on my end but it is some process failing between eSellerat.net and PayPal.

In the meantime thanks for your assistance Paul. I'll just catch this software next time it comes around.

I could just use my credit card but I am risk averse to do this, even though I don't doubt that everything is on the up an up, I just prefer not to transact using this modality.

Best Regards, Brad

Johno Hey Brad,
I purchased mine with Paypal and from within Firefox no problems at all and quickly.
However as Paul has suggested it would pay to check the Firefox version go to Help/About Firefox and then click on 'Check for Updates', also if you havent cleaned out the browsers cache for a while go to Tools/Clear Recent History - this will open a 'Clear Recent History' window (suprise suprise !) now choose the top line in this little window says 'Time Range To Clear' slide right along to the lil drop down arrow and choose the bottom option 'Everything'
**NOTE:- make sure you have all your passwords for your sites that Firefox auto enters for you written down or recorded somewhere because these will be no longer there and you will have to enter them manually the first time once you resume browsing, at which time you will be given the option to save the password again.**

Ok so choose everything and then click on 'Clear Now' - a msg. will have appeared warning you that this action is not reversible, npz. as long as you have recorded your passwords etc. You will also have to enter your basic (name DOB, address phone no. etc.) into forms at least once before that info will be available for Firefox to put in for you auto.
Its not a bad idea to do this from time to time - common sense is the 'how often?' answer it depends on how much browsing you do lols.
All the best,
Johno.

Brad Hey John

Thanks very much for the tip on clearing the cache with Firefox, but the third attempt was made through Chrome and I had cleared the cache prior to my final attempt. I'm thinking something else is going on process wise between eSellerate.net and PayPal specific to my account and likely to do with the multiple attempts I've made to complete this transaction. Although I did contact PayPal and they replied a few minutes ago that my account had no hold, or reserve placed on it. The support rep stated that there are many variables and that even then it may take them 24 hours to get a complete answer as to what the issue was. Such is the nature of our technologically wired world.

But thanks again for your help. Brad

SoftCollector Dear All,

I bought DS as part of the last promotion on BDJ, and have been trying it for two weeks now.

1. Unfortunately, I cannot report that my findings are predominantly positive. I am primarily using Google Chrome and with it, DS is very unstable, crashing time a time again in the site explorer/downloader mode, and more often than not taking my internet connection with it, which forces me to restart my computer.

2. It is an interesting piece of software and tries to offer a lot (for example the site explorer mode mentioned above where all links on the page are listed and you can choose what do download – sort by extension, and get all the *.epub files, for example). However, it is either very buggy or does not run well along Chrome, as it breaks down way too often. Yesterday evening it crashed in the neighborhood of 10-15 times for the duration of 20 minutes. My computer is running Windows XP Pro, which has been installed recently.

3. Another interesting feature is the 'download video' mode, where you can get clips from www.youtube, for example. However, yet again, it does not always work as advertised, so it is a hit and miss kind of deal.

4. Even when configured to monitor the clipboard, sniff for URLs, etc. it is either too late to react (Chrome has already downloaded the file at 30%), or does not start at all.

5. I would like to see the software further developed and fixed, as it offers a wealth of functions under the hood, has a great interface, which I would rate 5 out of 6, and could be the perfect deal for the money, if it indeed did what it said it did.

Kind Regards,
SC

Paul Schumann Hi SoftCollector,

Thanks for your feedback. They are welcome & we're happy to help you get up and running.

Some answers/feedback:

1 & 2. We have not had any reports of crashing from our users so please contact us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com with details how you can get it to crash. We'd really like to reproduce this crash and fix this ASAP.

3. There is a patch for downloading YouTube videos - http://forum.conceiva.com...-0-5-users After applying this patch, you can download videos by using the URL of the YouTube pages directly as a download job. You can also set the quality (HD, HQ, SD, etc.) of the videos that are downloaded from YouTube.

4. Not exactly sure what you mean by "late to react". When a URL is detected, it is caught or listed by DownloadStudio. If you have an example, we'd like to find out if there is a problem. Please contact us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com with details.

5. We're continuing to develop DownloadStudio and your feedback helps us improve it. So please contact our support staff any time using either our forum (http://forum.conceiva.com) or our support email (support [at] conceiva [dot] com).

ron r I purchased 2 licenses through bitsdujour on october 8th 2012, SoftCollector asked on october 6th 2012 if buyers would get an free upgrade to version 8.
The answer (also 6th october 2012) that buyers would get an free upgrade to version 8. My decission to purchase this was also motivated by the free upgrade promise.

My questions:
- Does the free upgrade still count?
- Will version 8 be skipped and the next major version be 9?
- Could you give any indication of the biggest changes (additions) of V9?
- And is there any chance of an portable version?

Thank you

SoftCollector Dear Paul,

Thank you for you kind reply.

Indeed, my serial for v7 worked. A few first observations to help you make DS even better:

1. Chrome integration with the dragging of the extension into the settings-extensions window will be too difficult for some users. I believe the text prompts should be reorganized to better explain the steps to take. The user is not aware that there will be a final step with Explorer opening a window, dragging the file, etc. until he/she actually presses a button under the supposedly full text prompts, so this needs to be looked into.
2. The registration of the software with the manual closing and running is also too slow. Why wouldn't DS start on its own to complete the process (if a restart is indeed necessary)?

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,
SC

Paul Schumann Thanks for the excellent feedback, SC.

1. Google will soon change the way extensions are added into Chrome. They are going to force users to only install extensions from Google's Chrome Web Store. So we are in the process of changing to this new method - i.e. our extension will be listed on Google's Chrome Web Store for download and install.

2. Understand about registration. We'll look at improving this.

From your site:
"Downloading a complete web site allows you to view the web site offline without being connected to the internet. All files for the web site are downloaded and the site is fully functional. This is great for offline browsing, for research purposes and for making regular backups of a web site"

Does this mean that I can use it for making backups of my WORDPRESS sites ?
And can I then use the downloaded files for redeploying them again ?
I am probably dreaming to much now...would be to good to be true...

Paul Schumann Hi mix624,

If your web site were HTML files, then you could use DownloadStudio for web site backup since you are downloading your web site files. But if your web site uses server-side scripting (PHP, ASP, etc.), then you would not be downloading these scripts - but the resulting HTML generated by the scripts. So in this case, it would not be a true backup. When downloading complete web sites using DownloadStudio, we suggest its main purpose is for offline reading.

Software Babe I tried capturing a video from a link using your software and it did not work for me. I love you MEZZMO software and this is why I tried this one you offer here. I am a techie and I know I set it up correctly, but after it finished the episode I was capturing, I could find it no where. It never recorded. I looked everywhere, including the Roaming apps where the downloads were. Nada.

Sorry, but I have to pass on this, UNTIL you make it easier for people to capture videos from urls, such as from this link:
http://www.watchthewalkin...nline.com/ where I chose an episode, began playing it and your software looked like it was capturing it in the box, but never did.

I currently use Audials for capturing online videos as they are playing and it is so easy, so I think I will pass on yours. BUT, YOUR MEZZMO IS STILL THE BEST DLNA SOFTWARE EVER! Hope you improve on this one and then I will buy it!!

It does have /very/ occasional problems intercepting downloads that go via an intermediate webpage as well as an (also rare) issue where a completed download is reported as a failure but nothing that even gets close to outweighing the advantages of this brilliant bit of kit. :)

Buy it.

Constantin Florea @Philip Godfrey - the GBP 9.78 is the value of the coupon code. Since the regular price is GBP 16.30 it means the final discounted price is GBP 16.30 - GBP 9.78 = GBP 6.52 which is approximately USD 10.92.

Matt Hi Paul,

Can you tell us when the current version (9.0.3.0) was released and when you plan on releasing your next major version?

On your change log ('What's New'), you don't have a version 8 and version 7 doesn't show any updates. It just shows version 7.0.5.0 and then jumps right to the current 9.0.3.0 version. Can you explain this?

Do you plan on releasing any minor updates to 9.x or will you, once again, jump to a new major version?

Also is this latest version compatible with the latest version of Firefox (29.1)?

Your version 7 only supported up to Firefox 8.

Thank you.

Gonzo I bought a license back in April 2012, and have a couple of questions:

1-What's the latest version I have access to with my current license?
The "What's New" has a changelog, but no dates on it.

2-Is there an upgrade purchase available for existing users? If so what's the cost and where is the link to it? (couldn't find it in the website)
Is it cheaper than today's BDJ price?

Thanks.

Ronald van Dyk Ok. What is the joke here. It clearly says $9.98 USD, yet when it takes you the Conceiva site to pay for it, it turns to $14.97. If you go straight to Conceiva site, they themselves have the app reduced to $14.97

So which is right BitsDuJour at $9.98 or Conceiva at $14.97?
May 28 2014 at 9:02am Copy Link
1
Constantin Florea @Ronald van Dyk - The $14.97 is the value of the coupon code. The regular price is $24.95 so the total discounted price is: $24.95 - $14.97 = $9.98

Jim Hayes I went to http://www.conceiva.com/p...oadstudio/ to get some more info and found "Don't just take our word for it. DownloadStudio won PC Magazine Editors' Choice Award! PC Magazine tested and reviewed all leading download managers in its 12th Annual Utility Guide, and awarded DownloadStudio the Editors' Choice for best Internet Download Manager." Impressive!! I decided to see what PC Mag said about it. A search of pcmag.com revealed DownloadStudio 1.0 received the Editors' Choice award - Review Date June 08, 2004. Almost 10 years ago. The only other review was for DownloadStudio 2.0 - Review Date November 30, 2004. A thorough search of pcmag.com found no newer reviews of DownloadStudio. If you want a program from a company citing a 10 year old award, then here it is. I'll pass.

Ulrich I am using DownloadStudio for almost 4 years now, and it works as expected. Even when I found something that no longer worked as it should, the support team at Conceiva was responsive and provided solutions quickly - the last version they sent me was built less than a month ago (9.0.3.18). If something isn't working right for you, post on their user forums and they will look into the issue.

Paul Schumann Hi Matt,

DownloadStudio v9.0.3.0 was released in November last year. The reason for the version jump was that we released DownloadStudio 8 in Japan (called DownloadSpider) before the current DownloadStudio release - and the versions were different.

Paul Schumann Hi Jim,

Yes - the Editors Choice award is getting old but we're still very proud of it :) And there has not another been a download manager shootout since - to our knowledge. Perhaps another way to look at it is that we're a company that has been developing a download manager over a 10 year period and are still actively developing it. That may be a good sign for users - as compared to a brand new product from a developer with no track record. But it is up to you :)

Was Ulrich correct above when he said that version 9.0.3.18 was released in the past month (or so)?
And if so, why do you keep referring to version 9.0.3.0 ???
If there was a problem (or issue) that he discovered and you modified and/or wrote some new code to create a new build for the purpose of addressing that issue, doesn't it stand to reason that others may have the same issue as well ???

By-the-way... If your responsiveness to his problem was as he has represented it, I COMMEND you for your prompt attention to your customers' Satisfaction !!!

I'm going to purchase today at this special price and give it a try !

Louis H Regarding the update situation with this program......

I purchased the program back in Aug of 2010. That was three computers ago. I forgot about the program - ( which says more about my inability to keep track of everything I have purchased over the years than it does about this program) -and just installed it on my newest computer. It registered with no problems with my Serial Number and License key. (Same for the companion program Mezzmo! )

Greg Z I can't pay by PayPal either it keeps glitching with no error indicated but I've checked in my PayPal account and no transaction is recorded not even the failure. Trying one more time using Constantin's advice then report back.

Edit: I tried other browsers and even directly through their site and no dice. So I'm giving up which is a pity since the software does sound good but wasting 30+mins on this is enough for me. If this is offered through BitDuJour itself again I might consider it but as it failed even through their own website I'm not particularly impressed or fussed must be other software available out there or even here on site or just put up with downloading normally.

Paul Schumann Hi a zeus & Greg Z, Sorry for the purchasing problems. We use eSellerate (Digital River) for all payment processing and we've have 100s of purchases already processed in the past 24 hours. So we know it is not a system-wide issue but specifically related to your attempted purchases. Constantin's suggestion is a good idea - i.e. clear your web browser cache and/or try another web browser such as Chrome or Firefox and/or try another computer. If that does not work, then I suggest you email the eSellerate support staff immediately using the support [at] esellerate [dot] net email address. Since we do not process the orders ourselves, there's no point in contacting us (Conceiva) as your first point of call. If still no success with eSellerate, then do email us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll try to help out.

John H I just tried this out. Just want to save a few videos.

This program probably can do it all. I do not think I want anything off the Web enough to spend the time climbing the learning curve this program appears to have. The documentation looks well written and the learning curve should not be too time consuming.

But for $7.48, I think I will get this for my tool box for that one time when I really need to download something.

I currently use Video Get which is just plain simple idiot proof.

We have to do this since Google recently pulled our DownloadStudio extension from the Chrome Web Store (they don't like download managers downloading from certain sites). We've complained to Google about this, but we're unable to get it re-listed. So you have to follow the steps to side-load it. Once loaded, it works well & is easy to use.

Chris All I can tell you is not to purchase this. I did and it would not work with Chrome. I contacted support and never got an answer. Also, when I installed and tried to register it told me I had an illegal copy and I had to wait x number of days before I could change the key. I contacted them about it as well with no reply.
I use IDM> (Internet Download Manager) great program and regular updates. I've had it for a few years now and still the same major version with tons of updates.

Robert Crombie I purchased this a few minutes ago.
My PCs are all old and die often
My main PC is XP Pro 32bit. It's IE6 is a bit flaky (and I don't upgrade the XP PC to a later IE, as it can complicate my Restore/Repairs after drives or PCs die)
I see that your program requires IE to be present. IE6 is still present, but me using it as a browser is not possible.
Will I be able to use your program in my XP PC (I use FF as my browser) ?

Paul Schumann Hi Rob, One of the features in DownloadStudio called Site Explorer does use an Internet Explorer window to render web pages inside DownloadStudio - but you don't have to use the Site Explorer feature for downloading files, videos, etc. - it's mostly used for people who wish to browse web pages and list all the links on a web page. Any problems - just email us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

umike According to CNet, this software was last updated on December 08, 2014. Is it outdated becos I am having some problem testing the trial?
Installed the trial version. Cannot link to Chrome becos chrome plugin is missing. I search chrome plugin page and there is no plugin for DownloadStudio. Try using the DownloadStudio software itself to surf Youtube and DailyMotion but DownloadStudio does not detect any video. DailyMotion even suggest that DownloadStudio is a outdated browser : "Looking for a safer and more improved viewing experience? Take the time to upgrade to a browser that's more up-to-date and secure.".

Paul Schumann Hi Dunking, If the subtitle is embedded within the video, then it will be downloaded with the video. If the subtitles are external, then you will need to know the URL for the external subtitles and add this as a download job into DownloadStudio so that it will be downloaded with the video.

DrTeeth I have been a long-time user of DLS.

Tech support has always been excellent and fixes to YouTube changing their site have always been rapid. However, I no longer use DLS for downloading YT videos as one cannot tell DLS to download the maximum resolution available.

There has not been an updated release of DLS for some years. For that reason alone, I would be hesitant in buying it now, especially as it is not compatible with Firefox 57 (I am running beta 10). Mozilla has changed the plugin architecture and many plugins cannot even be rewritten for v57 and later.
Oct 23 2017 at 3:47pm Copy Link
0
Paul Schumann Hi DrTeeth, DownloadStudio always tries downloads the best quality videos from YouTube. The problem with YoutTube is the highest resolution may have separated its audio and video (i.e. two files are downloaded) which is not ideal for users. So DownloadStudio chooses the highest that is also a single video file (containing the video and audio streams).

We do patch DownloadStudio whenever users report problems - for example, YouTube changing their URLs. The latest patch can always be obtained form our support team at supportconceiva.com.

DownloadStudio does integrate into the latest Firefox. We've submitted our addon Mozilla Firefox and are awaiting approval. Hopefully should occur very soon.

Sebastian User Guys,

I've been using DownloadStudio since 2014 and it's served me beautifully.

It stays out of your way and gets the job done for you. It's one of those masterpieces of tools that you don't notice until you use a computer where you don't have it. And then you miss it painfully.

Believe me, for $7.50 it's a no-brainer, even though I happily paid the full price.

ron r I have the following questions/issues:

1.For example, I have this link: https://www.youtube.com/w...K2smasHg6w
How do I download it's highest resolution in MP4
(Whatever I try, it always seems to donwload website content, I just want the M4)

2. Is it possible to download and convert an youtube content to MP3?
How do I do this? (if possible).

3. Can I do the above also from vimeo?

4. I have the firefox add-on installed but it doesn't doe anything. It only shows 3 menu items: Open download studio (which doesn't work), clipboard monitoring and settings. I installed the add-on in firefoxportable.
Nov 5 2018 at 11:57pm Copy Link
0
Paul Schumann Some answers:

1. Just tried downloading the YouTube video and it downloaded an MP4. Simply copy the Youtube URL (like you have suggested) and add it as a download job in the Add Job dialog in DownloadStudio. Click OK and DownloadStudio will interrogate the web page, find the video on the YouTube web page and download it.

2. DownloadStudio has post processing. This lets you run commands / apps after the file has been downloaded. So to extract an MP3 from a YouTube video that you have downloaded, you could use ffmpeg as a post processing step (using arguments: -i [FILE] "[DOWNLOAD_FOLDER]\[TITLE].mp3"). Download ffmpeg from zeranoe website. See the help file for instructions how to use post processing.

3. Yes - DownloadStudio downloads videos from all popular video websites.

4. The add-on does not work in Firefox Portable because the add-on needs to be able to find DownloadStudio on your PC. Installing the regular version of Firefox will enable you to install the add-on and download files with DownloadStudio.

Hope it helps. If you need further help, simply email us directly at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll get you up and running.

RichV Hi. If I've got a webinar to watch, does it have to be pre-recorded (i.e. not live) to be captured? And if it's pre-recorded, are there limits to the format or delivery types that DS will handle? (thanks)

Rich
Nov 7 2018 at 5:50am Copy Link
0
Paul Schumann Hi Rich, Pre-recorded video or audio webinars will be able to be downloaded. Simply copy the URL into DownloadStudio and it will download them for you. For live streams, they may also be able to be downloaded, but it does depend on their streaming format. If they are packetized MPEG-DASH or HLS, then they cannot be downloaded as one video file (since by definition they are split into many small parts). If they are just a (say) MPEG-TS or MPEG-4 stream, then they can be downloaded as they are streaming live. To find the actual URL to download, you can use the DownloadStudio Sniffer app that comes included in DownloadStudio. Email us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com if you need help to get up and running.

RichV Thanks, Paul ... now one last question: if they're streaming live in a compatible format, do I have to keep the focus on the screen once DS has latched onto it? (I wouldn't shut down the screen, but it would be great if I could do something else while DS is recording it.)

Rich

Paul Schumann Hi Rich, I would suggest the following steps: Run DownloadStudio Sniffer (incl. in DownloadStudio) and start it sniffing for video URLs. Then run your web browser and start the webinar streaming. Sniffer should list the video URL that is streaming. Select it and click Add Job button and it will add it to DownloadStudio app and start downloading the video. You can close your web browser at anytime after finding the URL in Sniffer. Email us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com for further help.

DownloadStudio has the tools to download from the vast majority of them. Give it a try. Any problems, contact us support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll help you download the content you want.

Allan Winston I am going to post this question here, instead of the vendor's support site, in the hope that the answer might help others who purchased a license today.

I purchased a license and received the email that has the download link as well as an attached Adboe Acrobat file. However, neither the email nor the Acrobat file have any license information that would allow me to fill in the registration information, serial number and license key,

Allan

Allan Winston I received an email with the license information. It arrived 6.5 hours after the original email, so I guess it is not an automated process.

Paul Schumann Hi Allan, it is an automated response. Could just be the vagaries of the internet. Not sure. Glad you are up and running now!

Lito The last version on your site is 10.0.4.0 and it is from 2017. There are many instances here and on your own forums that seem to always direct users to get the latest version by contacting support for a "beta" version. This to me doesn't look good given the last release date. At first glance it looks like abandonware due to the 3 year old latest release. You really should be at minimum be updating it at least once a year especially since the version you have listed seems to be one that wouldn't have the latest compatibility with the current generation of web browsers and their new plugin system changes. I was considering buying a license since I stopped using my v9 version a long time ago when I built a new PC, but it seems a bit strange that the latest version has been in "beta" for 3 years and you haven't updated once in that time period. So do you plan to update the software officially in the near future? 2020 is almost over and I am sure I am not the only one out there that doesn't like the idea of buying software with only unofficial "beta" releases via support. It makes it seem as if the software might turn into abandonware at any moment.

Paul Schumann Hi Lito, If you own a previous version of DownloadStudio then you have a lifetime license and you can download the latest version and enter your registartion details and use DownloadStudio. No need to purchase a new license. The current version of DownloadStudio is very stable and it is not in Beta. We provide very small patches from time-to-time when some sites (mostly YouTube) change the way they list their files / videos. We have been developing and selling DownloadStudio since 2003(!) and it is certainly not abandonware :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We will discuss them here and perhaps plan for a new release in the coming months.

Jackie Hi. Well I have the key and serial number. But I still can't use the software. I get this problem (Unable to load data file). What does that mean?

Jackie Hi. Well I tried that and I don't even see that folder. All I have in that folder is a logo. The folder with the software files is in C:\Program Files\Conceiva\DownloadStudio. And I don't know what to delete in that folder.

bvssunnydale Hi, I've purchased this twice now and have yet to download anything - although it looks full featured. Could you let me know, briefly, how to download images/pictures from a site (I'm specifically trying to download family photos from Google, they're not behind any kind of password protected site). I sent a request to your support but I'm hoping you guys are reading this and you can send me easy-to-use instructions. Thanks.

geo User @Paul Schumann
Hello and Happy Holidays to everybody.
I have to say I am in the same precarious situation as
@bvssunnydale. My version is I believe v9 and was never able to use the software to accomplish anything meaningful, as much as I would have liked it to work it did not for me. I was hoping it could do at least what HTTRAC could do for me but I was so frustrated by its setup options that I gave up and went back to HTTRAC. Which, by the way it is not so simple to figure out but I was able to set it up to eventually do web site mirroring, which it does extremely well I must say.
With download studio I have never managed a full mirror of any site.
Are there any step by step instructions to do specific tasks like site mirrors?
I have not explored the site for some time now since I kinda gave up on this.
What are the improvements with this version compared to v9?

Thanks in advance.

Robert Crombie I purchased earlier (same version I believe).
I like to download from YouTube
Often YouTube does changes that require download programs (such as yours) to do minor updates.
I was in contact with you a while back, and was told we had to contact your support to get those minor updates.
Is that still the case, or is there a way to get your program to connect to your site to do those catch up updates ?

Paul Schumann Hi geo User,Scraping some websites can be tricky since websites are often coded differently or change regularly. In general, DownloadStudio can download content from most websites (with a few tricks being used). That's why we suggest you contact us by email at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and our support team will gladly help you get the content you need.

Charles Hall I downloaded the trial version, and I'm trying to figure out how to get it to display just the image files from a particular website.

Using the Site Explorer, I can navigate to different directories on the website and see their complete contents, but I only want to show image files, like JPG, PNG, etc. Is there a way to set a filter for this?

Is there a way to have it display only files larger than a specific size? This would be helpful to eliminate small thumbnails, buttons, etc.

Also, the URL sniffer does not display any files at all. What's wrong?
