What are people saying about icomancer

Bruno Verschraegen Hello, is this / will this be compatible with Windows 8 (note: I'd prefer to stay with Windows 7 which is very productive, but over time - i.e. when changing computer - changing to Windows 8 will become inevitable).

Brenda Adams I downloaded Full download and when I began to install, got Norton Antivirus warning and removal.
It says you should submit your files to Norton for inspection.
It looks like you have a fun program and I want to try it out, but first, I think this matter will need to be fixed in order to reassure folks.

Alejandro Caballero We've got the same issue with Avast, mainly because icomancer is not a popular program and it isn't signed with a certificate purchased from some major provider. Now antiviruses measure an app's danger based on application's popularity/certification. But icomancer doesn't contain any virus, malware or anything like that. It is just that it isn't certified and it doesn't have millions of downloads.

Alejandro Caballero Brenda~ Could you please tell me which version of Norton are you using and what's the problem you got? it could help me a lot for notifying Norton... it's not nice to have your app as a false-positive!

Brenda Adams Alejandro: Thank you. (Yes, I saw your correspondence with Norton and how nice, they are REMOVING that false positive and have issued an update!) I have downloaded the trial and am excited to play with this. :)

Alejandro Caballero Brenda~ Good (^_^) Please let me know if you have any problem with the app. And take a look at the sneak peek of the premium content from the Online Collections Browser... new packages are going to be released between today and tomorrow! After loosing yesterday in its entirety by struggling with Mcafee and Norton, I went back to help the Design team on finishing the new deliveries for VIPs :)

Tazzie This seems like a great program and it's great to see the vendor actively responding to questions. I would appreciate some clarification on the policy.

The policy states that "You must instal/register the software while the promotion is active, and cannot do so afterwards." It also states that the program can be installed on up to 10 computers. I wanted to clarify this .... does this mean that I cannot install/register the program at all after the promotion? What about system reinstalls? New computers? I have one computer in the shop and currently shopping for a new laptop ... with a handful of computers ranging from desktops to netbooks in one household, the status quo will rarely remain static as far as computers and users go.

This looks like a great program that would be useful and enjoyable to use, and I hope that its use is not as limited as the policy makes it seems.

Alejandro Caballero Tazzie~ Thanks for your input. We're working very hard to make icomancer a must-have, and we're having a lot of fun with it :)

Yeah, the licensing seems a bit confusing, but I'll try to make it a bit clearer:

In order to get the discount, you must purchase it the same saturday. You'll not get the discount after that day. Then you'll have to pay the full incredibly high retail price.

But, no matter if you purchase the license with or without the discount, you can install, uninstall or reinstall icomancer as you need on up to ten computers, no matter if they're at home or at your office or at your parents' house.

The license is tied to your account on icomancer's server, so, for example, you can install icomancer on 20 computers, but you'll only be able to use your account with half of them... the other 10 will not be able to get the premium content packs, for they will be only available to run with a free account.

Now, let's say you want to move your account from one computer to another... well, is as simple as removing the source computer from your profile on our server (logging into your account on the website and editing your profile) and connecting it in the target computer (by logging into your account from icomancer).

As you can see, the license is tied to an account (username, password, email OR facebook account), at that account belongs to a single person or a company representative. And it can be used with your relatives or friends -that's not a limitation-, but then you'll risk to two things:

a) when the profile syncing comes live, you and your relatives will be sharing the same stuff they publish and/or download.

b) being punished by our licensing system if someone spreads your access to others and they try to connect your account with more than ten computers.

But don't worry too much about the second... for we're very flexible guys ;)

I hope this clears your doubts. I'm around for anything else you may want to ask.

Brenda Adams You might want to extend your offer... I think there is a slight mishap.

The email that Bits du Jour sends out to folks who have signed up to receive the offers... has your offer listed, right now...Saturday 7/14 1:37am...listed as "COMING SOON." However, once the link is pressed to see it online, it says "TODAY ONLY 22.xx hrs left." (I paraphrase.)

I've peeked at one other offer next to yours on the list, it does say Coming Soon and it means that (seen once I clicked on the link).
I hope I'm being clear. I almost didn't come look because I thought yours was NOT going to be today. (Only reason I did, I remember you writing something about the offer being Saturday only.)
Just letting you know.

Yves Ros Hello,

I orderd and downloaded iconmancer. But Kaspersky Internet Security deletes both the downloaded program and the installed files on my computer.

Any workaround regarding this issue?
Jul 14 2012 at 3:08am Copy Link

Alejandro Caballero Yves~ It happened with you just like with Brenda... the setup files aren't popular -they don't have millions of downloads-... We've dealt with Mcafee and Norton, and since it doesn't seems to be having more problems with Norton, Mcafee still says icomancer's setup packages are "potentially dangerous"... so at the moment of installing they must be selected as trusted.

I've never used Kaspersky, but it's for sure that somewhere in the dialogs it shows, yuo can say that icomancer is trusted to be installed...

I'll get back at you if I find some friend also using Kaspersky willing to help me out on clearing this issue.

Alejandro Caballero Yves~ Oh, Don't worry, you wont lose any benefit at all.

I'm not sure if Kaspersky has a "Sandbox" mode, like Avast... if so, maybe some of the files are either malformed or incomplete. Let me hunt your account on my system and I'll continue supporting you over email until this is fixed, ok?

Amit Purchased, but have 2 doubts -

1) Regarding the notice on my account profile -
"Your Licensed computers
No computers found!

You should install icomancer at least in one computer or your account will be deleted."

Do i have to install the icomancer software today only, to not get my account deleted, or i can install later, ie. after 14 july 2012 too ?

2) I am a bit concerned after seeing the virus threat detected by Kaspersky, as told by Yves Ros
Wud like that cleared up, before i install it. So do i really need to install on 14 july only ?
Jul 14 2012 at 5:53am Copy Link
0
Alejandro Caballero Amit~ Nope, don't worry. I'm not going to delete any account that has purchased a license.

About Kaspersky: I'm going to have to deal with them as I'm doing with Mcafee and Symantec, but I'm not sure if they're going to respond quickly to my "false positive" dispute.

And as I said before: icomancer is virus free. It has been tested by Softpedia, c|net, Softonic and even whitelisted by Symantec. You can check my communication with them here: http://www.lavasoftworks.....php?id=17

The problem with icomancer is that it is NOT a popular program, it isn't made by a website that receives millions or hits and it isn't downloaded by millions of users.

The other problem is that icomancer is not signed with an authenticode certificate. Both things make picky antivirus systems reject it, thinking it is a threat. And that's what I'm struggling against.

Mitchell Kastner I don't know why you gave me a license code.
I don't know where I am supposed to input the license code
I don't know whether I have a free or standard version.
I don't know how to upgrade and into what I would be upgrading since the button does not work
I don't know how to get help
I don't don't know how to apply art or colors to folders
I don't know if in Windows explorer I can select a folder and apply pictures or colors to it there.
I created my account using facebook beut I cannot get onto my account with you.

I purchased the license because it was inexpensive and because I desparately need to distinguish how my files look

Why did the program repair my installation of microsoft net; it was not broken

Alejandro Caballero Mitchell~ Here I go:

You've received your account upgrade because someone used your paypal account to upgrade its account. I'll send you the details to that email after posting this message here.

Now... Icomancer's website has all the answers to your questions. There's an online manual, a help & support forum and even a direct contact form. Also you'll find there other documents explaining the features, and at any time you can download and install icomancer with a free account.

Actually, the page you get when hitting the "Buy now" button here on BDJ, tells you that you're going to upgrade a free account to standard or corporate. Then, you have to select the license type. After that, there are two options: specifying your pre-created free account id (that's when you install icomancer) or specifying a user name that, then, it is used to create your account.

And about .net framework: you downloaded the full bundle... it wasn't neccesary... there is an "imagemagick bundle" that doesn't has .net framework, and all that info is given in the download page :)

DiggerP @ Alejandro Caballero,
First of all I have to say that your a great guy.Very responsive to customer's questions and with a good sense of humor.
My sympathy goes out to small developers like you who are penalized by on the whole non-caring security companies ,who will flag a program without any regard as to the damage they inflict.
Hundreds if not thousands of legitimate developers and websites
are being marked as dangerous for no good reason.

I'm glad you were lucky with Norton ,but overall these companies including website scanners like WOT,McAfee Site Advisor etc, are very slow to respond, sometimes causing the website or business to be closed for lack of traffic and customers.

BTW ,customers- or people in general ,also have a responsibility
to learn about the AV program they're using and find out how to place the new program in the trusted zone or exclude it from being scanned.

As for me , I'll just purchase the program to support you in your endeavors .

VLM Peter E. - Well said. For me, the solution has been to stop using all forms of security software that depend upon constant updates of a "threats" database. I now use a combination of WinPatrol, Sandboxie, and one or two other interesting bits ... and NO AV software and NO firewall whatsoever. Not a single security problem, none of these headaches with false positives. Life is SO much more fun this way!

That whole industry plays on fear, nothing more.

Alejandro - Suggest you look at Digital River (e.g., ShareIt) or at FastSpring, or most of all at one called PayNearMe.

Alejandro Caballero Peter~ Right on! I was a Mcafee zealot for a long time until I switched to Avast... and I'm happier :) ...just basic, very basic security on my desktop, and no big deals.

I've been studying Digital River during the last days... I recall buying something from stores tied to their systems a couple of times... but I still need to dig on options. Don't know FastSpring, but I'll take a peak on it.

Thanks for the info!

DiggerP Additional comment to "Anand Tupule" . and in general to anybody following this topic:
Don't stare yourself blind on the discount limited for today.
Please visit the website and find out that the program is FREE.
It's just the type of extra content you pay for.
So whether you get the discount today or not ,you can still enjoy
a good part of the program.
Even if you have to pay "...... "the full incredibly high retail price."
(quoting Alejandro :) ) you'll only be paying a few bucks more.
Don't think it will kill anybody's budget :)

I don't know if cash or a bank draft would be accepted, but that would have to be arranged privately.
Just my take on it.

Alejandro Caballero Peter~ You've just explained in few lines the whole thing (^_^) ...yes, indeed, icomancer is a FREE app, and the free users get just a bit of the whole package, but no restrictions in icomancer's functionality. And i'll quote my wife on this: "before thinking on making money, think on how your application is going to help people". That's the philosophy behind icomancer.

Yes, free users get the whole functionality but not the premium items... And also yes, there are content types that can't run without a premium account... And those premium packages expand the application's functionality size a lot more than the double... that's why icomancer has such unobtainable high prize ;)

I haven't received any input from the premium users -not yet-, but they seem to be enjoying as-of-now released premium packages (lots of downloads). And the guys behind the design team -the behemotesque team of two people- are going to release some packages with features never seen in any icon creating gizmo ever created.

And the free users are collaborating A LOT... the online images and icons are growing pretty fast, and the assortment of things is getting a very nice level of balance.

I may be saying too much about my own app... but... well, I'm proud of it, the people who is helping me with it share the same feeling, and we're really glad of seeing that it's being enjoyed by a lot of people.

Thanks for your words :) you've seen the big picture without effort. You sure have a big eye, and you saw everything from the top of the tower.

Now I'm scared. Aren't you Sauron?

Your input is deeply appreciated. I'm sad to say right now Paypal is the only method I can use... but I'm starting to look for other alternatives, so I hope to have additional payment methods by the end of the month.

Be ready for the next content deliveries... I think icomancer will break apart the standard way of seeing folder icons that day!

DiggerP @ Alejandro Caballero,
Please do not switch to Digital River / ShareIt .
We've had enough trouble on BDJ with vendors using it.
They don't accept orders if you use a Gmail address or other free email service.
They claim it can't be verified ,so you can only use a paid email service. I've written them to no avail and for myself planned to boycott them. They're extremely inflexible and totally unreasonable.
I have a copy of their email to me regarding this.
Most people use a free email service and to demand that you use a paid one is outrageous to say the least.

I'm sorry this is somewhat off-topic ,but since you mentioned it,
I thought you should know.

Alejandro Caballero Retired Engineer ~ Icomancer builds icons in 256, 128, 96, 48, 32 and 16px and packs them in a single .ico file. The smaller ones receive different treatment in order to loose less detail. So, in short, you can change to any view and still keep some of the detail :)

Alejandro Caballero John H ~ The icons are set as portable, so if you move the folder to another NTFS/FAT drive, they remain. They persist even over windows shares :)
Regarding the privacy thing: when you craft an icon you have the chance to disable uploading/sharing before saving it, so if you make a personal icon you can keep it locally, or you can upload it and keep it private... it's up to you.
Now.. icomancer is built as a "social app" and there's a community behind it. I beg you to publish things that you consider good enough to be shared with the rest of the users.

Amit Very good software - although the last time i had downloaded it - it asked to install dot net 4.0 - which takes mammoth size for installation - (anywhere from 1.5gb+ approx) - on a 64-bit windows 7.

If icomancer can be used without net 4.0 - would be really a big thing.

Alejandro Caballero Amit ~ Thanks for the comments! I've been debugging and improving icomancer since its first release, and it is growing pretty nicely :)
Regarding .net: well, the app is built on it, and well, I would need to fully rewrite icomancer in another software platform in order to get rid of .net, so... sorry! I'll leave icomancer attached to that framework for the time being ;(
Now... 1.5gb??? no way!!! the download is no more than 40mb and when installed, it takes about 200mb! Believe me, I run tests on very limited virtual machines. For that reason, I'm fully aware of .net RAM and Disk usage (~_~)
Besides... Windows 8 comes with .net 4.5 preinstalled, so, it wont be a pain in the future. Sooooo... shake off your fear and get it!

Dec 13 2012 at 4:53pm Copy Link
0
Alejandro Caballero VLM ~ That's correct. Just take in consideration the source image you're going to use, for some online resources have usage limitations. If you plan to create commercial icon packages forged with icomancer, just be sure that you'll have no issues with the sources you use.

Amit I will be purchasing this surely.

One feature I would I would really like to request for, if its not there - Saving of ALL CURRENT ICONS SET of system (modified by icomancer or not) - as a package for guys who reinstall their windows frequently.

Means like - we open icomancer - and there's an option to apply AND SAVE TOO, iconthemes (just like iconpackager has this feature).

Thanks.
Dec 13 2012 at 7:00pm Copy Link
0
Alejandro Caballero Amit ~ I have that -among other very nice features- planned for a "Pro" version. I can't implement it on this branch because an unsigned app messing with system settings is a no-no... and to get it signed I need to purchase two things: the Visual Studio Pro license and an authenticode certificate... And that's 1000+ dollars!

Can icomancer make unusually shaped icons, such as an oval?

Don't worry, I'm signing up, just curious. :)
Dec 13 2012 at 8:31pm Copy Link
0
Alejandro Caballero VLM ~ Not righ now... I have some extra templates to make, and they will take some time because they'll have advanced features, like chromatic adjustments, shape perspective and warping... so if you want to create a sphere using a picture as "texture map" and embed it in a folder, I'm sorry to say that you'll have to wait :-P
LAVA SoftWorks - Dec 13 2012 at 9:36pm Copy Link
0
VLM Thank you! Perhaps it would be advantageous to get something simple working, then follow up with more advanced features later on. That way you would gain the benefit of user input and experience along the way, And of course, you would have something rather than nothing WRT this feature area.
Dec 13 2012 at 9:52pm Copy Link
0
Alejandro Caballero VLM ~ Oh, believe me: I've implemented some things that came up thanks to some users... I _always_ listen to what they say, and thanks to them I've fixed several bugs.
Those advanced features aren't hard to implement once the seeds are well placed... just like the advanced color packs I've released months ago: once the internals where in place, more complex things came along (~_~)
If you get nice ideas and if they aren't too difficult to implement, you can be sure I'll work over them immediately.

Brian H Hi Alejandro. This program loos very good! :-) Question- under the "Policies" tab, there seems to be 2 statements that contradict. First is "Each license allows installation on 10 computers, and icomancer may be used at exactly the same time on each of them." Bu then later it also says "Online license activation is required with a hardware footprint, and 1 installation per footprint". Would you please clarify- it is 10 allowable installations (and thus hardware footprints) or only 1 installation and 1 hardware footprint? Thanks. :-) -Brian

ouialaraison Hi,
Do we have to apply changes to one folder at a time (let it be a color, a texture or an “imbued” icon) or does icomancer work in batch processing mode (i.e. multiple selected folders can be modified in one click) or recursive mode (i.e. a folder and its subfolders can be modified in one click) ?
Dec 14 2012 at 5:04am Copy Link
0
Alejandro Caballero Brian ~ I'm also confused on that (T_T)
The thing is: you get your account, you can use icomancer on 10 computers with the same account, and icomancer's licencing system tracks the computers by generating a footprint per computer.
I hope it is clearer now!
LAVA SoftWorks - Dec 14 2012 at 7:08am Copy Link

Alejandro Caballero ouialaraison ~ When you craft an icon, that can be assigned to a single dir at that time, but once you've crafted it, you can open the imbuer and set it to several folders at once, either by picking them up one by one or dragging them from the windows explorer and dropping them over the "drop folders here" area :)
There is no recursive mode right now... I was planning to put it there but when I imagined a user imbuing some icon to the C:\Windows folder and activating the "recursive" flag without knowing what was for, I decided not to include it. That left my soul at peace :P

ouialaraison Thank you for your answer, Alejandro!

I had spotted on your site the screenshot of the window with the “Drop folders here” area but I wanted to make sure, as some of your competitors only process folders one by one, and it drastically limits the usability.

The recursive mode is not so important if it is possible to apply changes to multiple folders, but maybe, to avoid the situation you mentioned (how many folders can there be in an average Windows???!!), you could set a maximum number of subfolders to be affected (no idea whether it is doable though…)

Anyhow, I’m about to uninstall another program I have as a giveaway and invest part of my fortune in yours, with premium content.

Alejandro Caballero ouialaraison ~ Oh my, I'm very glad you've decided to support icomancer :) ...it needs more time and features, and comments like yours feed my need to continue improving it!!!

There's more premium content to be done, but I need time to finish pending functions in the app in order to turn back to content and release more stuff. You know... it's hard to be programmer, tester, debugger, Q&A zealot, designer, tech support monkey, marketing boss and post-sales slave at once!

Let me rethink the recursion thing with your comments and I'll see if I can include it with the next update (by the next week).

Thank you very much for putting your trust on this work :) ...I promise to do my best on keeping you happy :)

I clicked on upgrade copied the emailed registration code into the coupon code field filled in where I found out about this program (i.e. BDJ). now it's registered. Thank you to the developer. looking forwards to trying this out.

One suggestion. I'd remove the nude image from the as it may offend some users. (It can be found via the Imbue section - just click on the online icons browser tab and you'll see it. It's really not bad, but my wife wouldn't like me using, lol and if you are using a family computer it's not really appropriate if children use the computer.)

ouialaraison Hi Alejandro and all,

I bought icomancer with premium content last time it was offered here and I quite like it. It is at the same time practical (if you only use the patterns included in the program) and will save you a lot of time, and fun (if you enjoy crafting your own folders) and will COST you a lot of time.

One little regret though: I wouldn’t mind making some of my “creations” public, but, unless you decide beforehand that what you are designing will be uploaded to the site as well as saved locally, there seems to be no way to do it afterwards. Or am I missing something?

Lee Newsum Icomancer is not behaving...

It keeps telling me I "may have installed the standalone version but missed ImageMagick" - despite the fact that it installed 6.8.6-10-Q16 ITSELF!

I had an earlier version (given away either here or GOTD back in March, I think), but have used IObit Uninstaller to uninstall that, this version of Icomancer, and all the ImageMagick I can find.

Re-installing still gives me the same result - whether I try to run it before re-starting "to finish installation" or after doing so.

And even if I do go and download the latest ImageMagick (which seems to be a slightly later version than that above, by the way), it STILL gives EXACTLY the SAME MESSAGE...
Sep 26 2013 at 2:47pm Copy Link

Alejandro Caballero Lee ~ Something is either not allowing icomancer to launch the ImageMagick's self-register DLL. Or preventing it to run or being invoked by icomancer. Neither is an authenticode-signed application, so, if you have strong security settings in your OS and using very paranoid anti-malware software, it is for sure that you will never be able to run icomancer straight out of the download queue. Please check icomancer's forum, for you'll find there other cases like yours. And if you don't, please post a topic there with screenshots of the messages you get and I'll gladly help.

ouialaraison Hi again, Alejandro!

Sorry to repeat my comment of one year ago – I still consider icomancer the richest of all folder customization softs I’ve tried, but I still regret that it is not possible to upload your designs at any time, but only when you first save them. This is too restrictive for me. I may be a perfectionist, but personally it takes me some time to decide that what I have done – a single folder or a series – is worth sharing. Presently, sharing some of my designs would mean redoing them – and I am just too lazy. Am I the only one who thinks this way? Do you consider changing that?

_*_ Is this true for a $7.49 sale item?

"Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for the lifetime of the product."

Users who purchase will never have to pay for a future upgrade, ever?

Also, since this is a Lifetime license, with a 10 computer install limit; does it really matter if I reinstall it as needed on the same computer; even past 10 installs? Not that I think I would need it, but if it is a Lifetime Upgrade license and you cannot go past 10 installs then it would seem less like a Lifetime License.

The Fine Print states:

"Online license activation is required with a hardware footprint, and 1 installation per footprint."

Thanks

Alejandro Caballero icomancer has been here for about 3 years now, and I'm sticking to everything I say.
• Yes, lifetime upgrades for that bit of USD.
• Yes, one license covers up to 10 PCs (yours, your wife, sons, nephews, etc. or you and some of your work teammates as long as it is a no more than 10 employees company) and is free for personal/commercial use.
• Reinstalls don't count as additional computers. You have a license manager where you delete unused computers from your license.
All that said: icomancer has something like most of the FOSS software pieces: no hard limitations, and is almost free. And it has no trojans, ads, or nasty stuff. Try it :) you don't loose a thing.

David Priest Hi, very disappointing software, I have purchased ONE program called icomancer and expect to have to install and run just the one program. I then find that I also have to install something called ImageMagick which I have done. When I then try to run icomancer, it tells me that "you may have installed the stand alone version of icomancer but you've missed installing ImageMagick" etc.
I didn't, it is installed, I am then also then asked to go to the command prompt and do stuff, also there seems to be no way of entering my license key.
All I wanted to do was was to be able to simply replace the standard yellow Windows 8.1 folder icons that are used in my Directory Opus Explorer software with some simple coloured folders , the BitsDuJour description led me to believe that this is what the program will do. I am so disappointed, have spent last few hours installing and re-installing, going round in cycles, going nowhere, looks like I have wasted my money.

_*_ @David Priest, I just went through the same thing. I downloaded the "Stand Alone" install routine and then was told I needed ImageMagick. I clicked the link downloaded it and installed only find the program would still not open or run.

I had to completely uninstall the ImageMagick first, then the main program. I did this Revo Uninstaller but the normal uninstall routine should work.

I then went and downloaded the full install (top most one), and did a reinstall.

This time around it asked to restart my system which I did, and then upon starting it asks for you to log into your account for their website. I had one so I logged in and it registered the program. From that point forward it starts as normal.

A lot of hoops to jump through for such a low cost program. Honestly not sure I would have if I had known ahead of time. It should be made clearer and simpler to know what to install and register.

Hope this helps

Alejandro Caballero The full installer comes with the full requirements packages, but if you have very high security settings or a kicky antivirus, you will have a flawed install. ImageMagick (the imaging framework used by icomancer) is heavily affected by this issue, because some antiviruses -don't know which because most users never say- don't allow certain components to be installed.
The vast majority of users don't have this problem.
I don't know from where you've got the command prompt instructions.
You haven't installed the correct ImageMagick distribution and/or components.
You've missed the link from BDJ pointing to the place where you claim the coupon: http://www.lavasoftworks.....php?id=71
By the way: that link is on the help & support forum.
I can help you out if you want, but I can't refund the purchase because the sales are being managed by BDJ. In such case, you should ask them if you want a refund.

Alejandro Caballero Ehm... guys, please, I beg you: Read before clicking. The downloads page clearly says what is included on every package. In fact, the "full bundle" (the first listed there) clearly states the next:
"Use this if you don't have or don't know if you have either .net framework 4 or ImageMagick 6.8.6-10 Q16 Win32 Dynamic. Both will be detected and, if they exist, the installer will leave them untouched. "
Also, on top of the page:
"Please note that Some antivirus programs may tag icomancer as a "harmful" download, but it is a false positive! That's because icomancer is not signed with an Authenticode certificate and it doesn't have millions of downloads. But icomancer is 100% safe and does not contain adware, spyware, virsuses, trojans or malicious programs attached."

_*_ @Alejandro Caballero, I did read what each one stated before downloading. However, I am one who wants to run the system with as little extra files as necessary. Since I had no idea ImageMagick was required, I bypassed it for a simpler "stand Alone" install.

Why not have one download and have the downloader check to see what is needed and install as necessary?

Also, there is no knowing before purchase that an account is mandatory in order to use the software.

Alejandro Caballero The different packages were requested since the first release because there were users (and not just one or two, but dozens) that already used ImageMagick with other packages. I removed them all and kept a single package (the full setup) a few months ago and got complains, so I decided to leave them all and let the user decide what to pick, but kept and highlighted every package function to avoid confusions.

About the account: icomancer is a piece of social software from scratch. That's said on the website and it is present on the screenshots. The account is used to link your publicly released creations (if any), and, well, the premium features are linked to the account level. You may just use the account to tie your license and not use it at all, but it is needed since the licensing system is based on that.

Alejandro Caballero Note: some minutes ago I released the Windows 10 folder template :) ...ported it straight from Win10 and enhanced shadows a bit since original icons are kinda flat. You will find it on the Content Packages browser once you get icomancer.
Now, for those that will surely ask about Win10 compatibility: icomancer runs fine, but you might have problems installing it if you have medium or high security settings. UAC on Win10 is even harder with unsigned apps than on Win8.

As of right now (6:63pm EST) there is no way to download the new version. Is this a rip-off or just a malfunction? I've been doing business with BitsDujour before they were BitsDuJour and have seldom experienced any problems - this seems rather unusual for them.

Robert User I downloaded and installed the Full Bundle (icomancer-Full-Setup.exe) (md5: b3d4c871 1e54c683 42711731 6028048d), and no errors were shown (XP SP3 32-bit). Icomancer AND ImageMagick were both installed. I did not have ImageMagick installed previously, and a new Program menu for ImageMagick was now created (ImageMagick 6.8.6 Q16 (32-bit)) and the Program Files directory now has ImageMagick-6.8.6-Q16, as expected.

After rebooting, I started Icomancer, but received the error:
ImageMagick is not installed!
You may have installed the Stand Alone version of Icomancer but you've missed installing ImageMagick.
Do you want to download and install ImageMagick now?

Instead of clicking Yes or No, I decided to go to the Start Menu and start ImageMagick itself. When I did, I immediately get an error:
The procedure entry point GetErrorMode could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.

Out of curiosity, I went back to Icomancer and clicked Yes. The program started Internet Explorer, which I do not use anymore, instead of my default browser. Regardless, I get to ImageMagick downloads for version 7.0.3-2. I had rather not have to fool around with the separate download and install, especially when clearly something went wrong in the Icomancer setup process.

One incentive for getting Icomancer was that it would handle installing the ImageMagick as part of the setup.
What can be the problem?

Robert User I have folder icon tools for my Windows 7 and 10 computers, but I did not have one for my XP SP3 OS. I purchased the program when it was offered here on 2016-10-02 specifically for the XP OS, but when the program is started, I received the error:

ImageMagick is not installed!
You may have installed the Stand Alone version of Icomancer but you've missed installing ImageMagick.
Do you want to download and install ImageMagick now?

I had installed using the version that installs ImageMagick, so that it would install exactly what it needed, and I knew that both were installed. I checked.

When I attempted to start iconmancer from the Start Menu, I receive a different error:
The procedure entry point GetErrorMode could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.

I posted a question (seen above in the Older Posts) that I had installed the program on a computer with XP SP3 32-bit, and detailed the problem, but the developer's response was as if the program was installed on a Window 7 or later OS by implying that the issue could be tied to UAC, and even pointed me to a post on the developer's website where a different user had an issue with UAC.

Windows XP does not have UAC, therefore I do not know if you even read my post correctly.

You also stated that the issue could be a "kicky antivirus" since "FFMPEG and other tools are flagged as malware."

I have used FFMPEG for a long time without issue, so I know that is not the problem, and I do not have a "kicky antivirus" program to begin with. To further entertain your idea, I turned my AntiVirus program off to ensure it was not the problem, and it did not change anything.

I also tried different versions of ImageMagick 6.8.6-10 and 7.0.3-2, but iconmancer does not recognize either one.

The problem is the iconmancer setup program not being able to install what it needs correctly and making the connection properly. I respectfully request that you address this issue with the respect it deserves.

Alejandro Caballero @Robert: I have an XP SP3 virtual machine and icomancer runs fine on it. I have to mention that this VM is kinda virgin... no antiviruses, no extra software, no nothing. Every time I make a new build I test the installer on my XP, Vista, 7, 8.1 and 10 VMs, trying to stick to the defaults on security and stuff.
And since the vast majority of the people runs Win7 or better, I go over UAC when support is requested.
I saw your post at the forum and you didn't specify you're using XP. That's why I told you about UAC and antiviruses.
Now, there's one thing about ImageMagick: if you want to install it by your own, you need to install the Dynamic Shared Library, because that's what icomancer uses. Plus, I tested a couple of versions beyond the one included with icomancer and found issues caused by bugs in those releases, that's why I didn't update the included version.
My recommendation here is: remove icomancer, remove imagemagick, and then install the "imagemagick bundle". Just make sure that your antivirus doesn't messes up with the setup.
In case you can't get it running, I can assist you over skype or teamviewer if you want. Just let me know.

Robert User @Alejandro,

Thanks for responding so soon. The things you recommend, I have already tried (full removal and clean re-install using the full package). I already know for a fact that the program does work on XP; it has for a long time. It just does not install properly on ALL XP systems.

One other thing, if you look at the older comments, it shows that I clearly stated that the program was installed on an XP SP3 OS, the same as I did today.

As for connecting to this computer, it is not permitted due to a commitment to protect data for a politician's website.

I can install a version of the program that produces better tracking, as long as the data is clear text, and can be sent via e-mail.

denis morrow I bought this software in September 2014. That was two or three laptops ago. I have used it ever since. I find it not only easy to use but I can make my own icons that stand out much clearer than normal homemade icons. Apart from the very low price and how good it is, the best part is the fine print. I was able to transfer to each of my PCs and laptops without much effort. you simply log in.
I always try to support vendors who sell low priced and with very little restrictions. This one stands out as an example to other vendors that when the customer buys something, then they expect to be the owners, and not just renting it out as a time limited, version limited or download limited purchase.
I have never had problems with this software, and as you can see from my other comments I don't pull punches when I comment on software sold or given away here. At today's deal price its more of a giveaway than a purchase.

That being said, using icomancer without an account limits you to the local scope (no downloads, no syncing, no community libraries). Those and free content packages are the bonuses for registered free users.
Oh, by the way: email addresses -from free or paid users- aren't used to send spam or resell them to anyone. Only to send important messages about the software or the company once every decade.

It's a damned sight easier to break out of San Quentin than it is to get into LavaSoft's ridiculously designed web site.

Alejandro Caballero @Felix User: when you login on the icomancer page, you can manage your licenses, so, if for some reason one of the computers you've installed blows up, you can delete that entry and reuse the license on another computer.
That being said: it doesn't matter the hardware specs or how many user accounts the computer has... the footprint is pegged to some obscure parts of your machine (no personal information used at any time to build it), but, then again, you can revoke licenses and regenerate them with no issues.
