What are people saying about Offline Explorer Pro

Dan Lucas Hello,

Do we get also the Portable Offline Browser 5.2 for that discounted rate? Thank you.

Frank K I bought 1 copy of Offline Explorer Pro earlier this year via this website.

Then I bought 2 copies of Inquiry Standard Edition, also via Bitsdujour.

I bought Offline Explorer Pro because I needed to create an offline copy of a subscription website [which I have belonged to for over 2 years].
Entering the subscription site required a Username + Password. It took me awhile to figure out how to get the Username & Password to work via Offliner Explorer Pro, but I found the answer to this question while I was preusing the Metaproducts website forums. . I found that several people had asked that very question and step-by-step responses were readily available.

I too would like to see the "PORTABLE edition" pass through Bitsdujour.

Now that 16GB and 32GB jumpdrives are being priced very reasonably, I would love to get the portable edition from Bitdujour.

Or maybe a SIDE-UPGRADE, for current owners of Offline Explorer Pro. ["side upgrade" - an upgrade concept I saw over at Netscantools.com, for people who owned Netscantools on CD, and wanted to also add the USB edition]

Frank K I'm sorry if my previous comment implied any "Lack of support" by Metaproducts.

That was not my intention.

[I work as a IT Help desk tech, going on 15 years +; so I am the type of individual that likes to research their own solutions before asking for help]

The solution to what I was trying to accomplish was really quite simple.
It was just a matter of using Offline Explorer's built-in browser and then entering my Username & Password within.
When I did that everything worked great.

Before deciding to buy Metaproducts; I had tried at least a dozen different freeware, Demos of Offline Browsers, plus several web scrapers.

I am satisfied with Offline Explorer's abilities and it's performance.

When it came to downloading a website, the software did a good job in regards to download speed and offline web structure.

I suggest anyone looking for an offline browser should check out for themselves, how well Offline Explorer works vs the competing products.

I had checked out the competitors that Metaproduct listed on their own "Competitive Comparison" chart..

The list of competing offline browsers are located at:
- Metaproduct's Offline Explorer product information page.
- Then on the left hand side of the page, click on the link, titled, "Competitive Comparison" .

I tried the other products.
For price,capabilities,features, and performance, Offline Explorer is what I ultimately purchased.

fran harter What excellent timing.

I just built a new PC with a phenom II X4 cpu and a uper tweakable biostar mobo.

I was thinking about migrating my current copy of offline explorer pro to my new pc.

Now I won't have to; I just have to wait a few days.

Hey Metaproducts; thanks for bringing your product back again to bitsdujour :^)

Michael R Having bought a similar program some years ago and using it from time to time, I got the following idea, wondering if your product could do this, because with my current one I miss this:

Let's say, I am interested in a webpage and want to offline browse all refered pages (on this original site or another) up to a recursion depth of e.g. 2. So I run your program and after some time I got the main-page and the desired referenced pages offline.

Now, when running through these downloaded pages offline (some days later), I found an article on recursive level 2 with an interesting reference, which is not available offline (because of my former specifications).

Is it now possible to let OfflineExplorerPro download this one reference too and add the result - if it really contains valuable content - to the original offline-content?

Or to get one step further, can I define a new order beginning with this article site with new download-instructions (e.g. 3 levels) AND letting it automatically add these new-downloaded pages to the original offline-content?

~~~~~~~~~~~~
How far is it possible to customize the criteria, if a certain webpage being downloaded is taken over to the offline-content and if the references it has should be followed?
[In a best case, it would perhaps be (additional) possible for the user to create his own DLL, containing a function with some input-data like 'webpage, webpage-content (HTML), How many links away from the original page' (being filled out from OfflineExplorer at decision-time) and a boolean-output/return-value YES/NO, standing for 'should the given webpage be included into the offline-content or not... (Sorry, a little technical)]
Thank you...
Oleg Chernavin There are three ways to do this in Offline Explorer Pro.
1. You may click the AutoSave button on the Internal browser toolbar and browse the site around offline. If you will click on a link that was not yet downloaded, it will be added to the download queue and loaded with all images, scripts and other files requested by the browser.
2. There is a Levels tab in the main window where you see the site structure with all links on every page. You may select several not yet loaded links (colored with gray) and click the Download button to get them immediately.
3. Add the designed link to start more deep download from to the Project's URLs field and add a line after it:
Level=3
This way Offline Explorer Pro will also get this link and up to 3 levels from it in addition to the main URL.
Oleg.
A. Goyal If you miss today's deal, try the free s/w WinHTTrack. I have used it for years to capture most sites and saved them for offline browsing when internet connection was not available or to just store versions of my websites.
lisba f a. Can I store the website I download in a location besides the one you give (Default), or can I move one stored in Default to another location of my hard drive? (I tried moving one but was not able) b. I don't see a Multilingual option. Typing the title of a download in your Default place in non-Latin characters the title shows as <?????????> instead. Both of the above I was able to perform with the free WinHTTrack; I'm just looking for one more user-friendly and with 'modern' interface.
Alexander Bednyakov a. Yes, there is an Export Files feature that allows you to copy the downloaded site to another location, make it compatible with other filesystems, convert it to MHT, HTML Help, EXE files, etc.
b. Yes, we are working to fix this. Thank you for pointing us!
lisba f << a. Can I store the website I download in a location besides the one you give (Default)? >> To 'Export' the file, as you suggest in your answer, means that I already stored it in the Default place. My question is if I can avoid this process, that is to store it directly into location of my choice.
Alexander Bednyakov Dorbel Tweeter, If you need the portable version, please make a purchase of Offline Explorer Pro today and contact us at supportmetaproducts.com . We will generate the Portable Offline Browser registration key for you. The registration keys are not compatible. Bl F., You can specify the disk location for the Offline Explorer projects tree Folder. To use several disk locations please create several project tree folders to specify necessary paths. The new project placed to the project folder will use the parent's location to store downloaded files.
Stephane M @Alexander
As I asked Dorbel, are there any differences between the regular pro edition and the portable one in terms of features?
If they have both exactly the same features I do not see the point to buy the desktop edition.
Thank you in advance.
Ennovy @Guy Good: <b>Look at the homepage of OE Pro</b> <u>Quote:</u><br> MetaProducts corporation is proud to announce a FREE UPGRADE promotion for all new Offline Explorer, Offline Explorer Pro, Portable Offline Browser and Offline Explorer Enterprise users. All users who purchased this software after January 15th, 2010 , may now upgrade to the future 6.x versions of the corresponding product for free!
Alexander Bednyakov Dorbel, the portable edition has the difference in the internal structure. This is from the technical point of view. In addition, it is the marketing decision to have a separate product with the portability feature.
Guy Good I didn't buy the product after January 15, 2010. My question was inquiring if there would be any bargain for users who already own the current version and bought it prior to that date. The offer is very good price for new users, but it's fairly costly if you already have most of the features and would only gain the new features in Version 6.x whatever they might be.
Guy Good Thanks for the replay Alexander. How much is the 50% upgrade discount price for Offline Explorer Pro and how can I take advantage
of this special pricing?
Jul 2 2010 at 7:29am Copy Link
Alexander Bednyakov Guy Good, the price will be $44.97. When the 6.0 version is released, please download and install it. It will offer to open the upgrade page automatically.
Guy Good $44.97 is the same price it's being offered to new people who don't
already own Offline Explorer Pro V5.x. I thought you meant there would be a discounted upgrade price based on the normal charge to upgrade rather than buy a new second copy. If the normal upgrade price is 50% of the total cost, I was expecting that to be discounted 50%. Otherwise an existing user is receiving the same deal as a new purchaser.
Alexander Bednyakov $44.97 is the today-only Bits Du Jour promotion price. The regular price is $89.95.
Guy Good I am asking if previos owners get a better price because they are
upgrading to get Offline Explorer Pro V6.x when it is available.
The $44.97 price is the same given to new buyers. I already own Offline Explorer Pro V5.x, so having two copies won't be of much use. If I wait until Offline Explorer Pro V6.x is released, won't the upgrade fee be the same as this offer? I was hoping to get a discounted upgrade price such as $22.49 because I already own V5.x and have most of the features minus whatever V6.x will add.
Hope I am making this clear.
Thank You
Harald Vogel @Alexander. I'm also a User of OEPro 4 bought in 2006 and would like to take this offer for an upgrade. I just checked back on your page and it says the regular upgrade price is $44,97 . Will this be changed when V6 will be released? I think there is a missunderstanding what Guy meant. So the question still is: Will there also be a discount for the regular $44,97 upgrade price ? Thanks!
Alexander Bednyakov I am very sorry for my late answers. I thought I provided you with all information. Sorry. Thank you for your comments and critical attitude. In return we will work to make our products and services better. The upgrade policy is to provide 50% discount off the regular price ($89.95) when the next major version is released. This is described at the upgrade pages linked above ( http://www.metaproducts.c...grades.htm .) This policy is very strict. Any user who got the discount for new purchase pay the standard upgrade price later. In few month before the new major version release we start the free upgrade promotion. You can see this taking place now. Unfortunately, the new 6.0 release is delayed and this promotion turned to be longer than we planned. This BitsDuJour promotion is the occasional action. We cannot not include the discounted upgrade for existing 5.x users here, because 6.0 version isn't released yet. Regarding the difference in editions - as replied - the portable version can be installed to a USB drive and keeps all its settings there. Dorbel, we provide free technical support by email. We answer all requests in one day. The BDJ promotion for Inquiry Pro & Std is planned for July 21.
Nico Westerdale Dorbel. Please understand that these comments boards are a courtesy that we extend, and are unique in the software community as no other website has such communication available. We strongly encourage vendors to reply, and Alexander has replied several times in this thread, including a few hours before your post. Please also be aware that vendors may be in a different time zone and 24hour support for a small company may simply not be possible.
We're also a small company, and need all of your support to grow this community and get the best deals out there!
Roger Thomasson @ Dorbel, Guy Our service is very simple.  We offer 24 hour (occasionally 48 hour) discounts on Windows software.  If that's not enough time to adequately evaluate a product, then we suggest you pass on the deal.   We also have host active comment boards that a vendor can choose to participate in.  However, unlike awesomely large discounts, comment participation is not and will never be mandatory for our vendors.  This isn't going to change, sorry!  If you choose to associate a vendors participation here with their product support, we can't stop you, but you would be making a mistake in judgement and assumption that is simply not grounded in reality. On another note, aggressive, badgering behavior towards vendors on the part of our customers will not be tolerated in any capacity.  Nor will ring-leading or poll-taking.  Not here at least -- that what our forum is for.  If you are dismayed at your comment disappearing, feel free to shoot me an email, I'll happily explain why: roger (at) iconico (dot) com We work hard to keep these boards useful, pleasant, and free of spammers and trolls.  And fortunately, most people like it that way :-) Happy 4th!
Roger Thomasson @ Guy In general, by the way, Bits du Jour discounts do not apply to the already-discounted cost of an upgrade.  As far as I know it's never happened -- safest to simply assume otherwise. -r
