What are people saying about PDF-XChange Editor

Type Hello!
I'm looking at the product chart on your site http://www.tracker-softwa...ison-chart
and cannot figure out what this is!

Is it, PDF-XChange Pro (a suite which includes PDF-XChange Editor) or is it PDF-XChange Editor (if so, what is the 'Editor Pro' edition?).
Just to confuse matters even more, I tried the trials and found that PDF-XChange Viewer (free but discontinued?) has a better/cleaner/different UI than the other versions!

I'd like to use PDF-XChange Viewer (Pro? I think that unlocks extra features, right?) instead of the PDF-XChange Editor UI - does this "PDF-XChange Editor PRO" promotion include the PDF-XChange Viewer (Pro) application?

Thanks for any further info!

PS. I think it would be massively beneficial to Tracker Software if you had a rethink about your software's branding and naming conventions - it's completely and utterly confusing! As a customer it doesn't inspire me to buy anything!

If you click on the Website link of this promotion, it takes you to the right product: PDF-XChange Editor.
Also, you can always go by the original price listed; PDF-XChange Editor is the only product in Tracker Software's website that matches the $43.5 price.

I do agree that the naming of the products is rather confusing.

Ah thanks, I see.. so PDF-XChange Editor is actually free and you only pay to unlock the 'PRO' features and the PDF-XChange Lite 2012 pdf printer?
Then, after a year, if you still want updates, you'd have to buy a new license to extend the maintenance for another year (or more), correct?

Also, reading the PDF-XChange Viewer product page, it states that the "Serial keys for PDF-XChange Editor, PDF-Tools and PDF-XChange Pro are compatible for directly unlocking the "Pro" features of the Viewer."
Can someone confirm this to be true as it also states, "STOP PRESS The PDF-XChange Editor is now available and supersedes the PDF-XChange Viewer !"
Which would imply to me that PDF-XChange Viewer has been discontinued and will no longer receive updates..? Just checking.

It seems like a good offer, the PDF-XChange Viewer is possibly the fastest I've ever tested (I'm loading 1200dpi print ready PDFs and the speed is incredible!) so I'd just like to clarify what I'm buying into :)

Scott Youngman I agree that the variety of Tracker Software products is confusing, and it's not easy to say what distinguishes one from another. There appears to be a lot of overlap in functionality among them, and the names are not distinctive.

But that aside, I have found PDF-XChange Viewer to be excellent, so the newer XChange Editor would be well worth a try.

FinanceGuy I have been using first the PDF-XChange Viewer and then moved to the new XChange Editor. The early versions of the Editor were a little lacking, but there have been several updates and now it has really improved. At this price I would definitely recommend it if you need this sort of application.

Corno Jacobsen Like Type and Youngman, I find the comparison chart confusing. It seems they have not one, but several lines of products, with many of them having similar but not identical features. It is difficult to figure out what program exactly fits your needs best.
Having said that, I agree that Tracker makes excellent software (they are even the inventor of the USB-stick, if I remember correctly).

Hayden :) "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 12 months."
"This promotion cannot be used to upgrade or extend an existing license."
"You can install/register the software at any time."

If I buy the license today, does the license time starts on the date of purchase or does it start on the date that I apply the new license?

I currently have an active license and I would like to apply the new license after the current license expires.

Please clarify. Thank you.

Artur Drozdek Hello, I'm a bit confused. Could anyone please put it simply and tell me if after buying this software I'll be able to transform free version of PDF-XChange Viewer into Pro one?

Lito I have some license questions also, it says "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 12 months.":

So are both major and minor versions are treated the same? So for example if at month 13, v5.5 becomes a v5.6, I don't qualify for the update unless I pay the maintenance fee?

Just to make sure, are the licenses perpetual? So if I don't pay the maintenance fee I can still use the version I have forever?

Jeff User Can you create pdf fillable forms with this software?
Nov 9 2014 at 10:52am Copy Link

Lito @Jeff User: I have been playing with the trial version and it looks like you can import the fillable forms from Adobe's product but not create the fillable areas in the editor. I was looking to see if I could but I can't seem to make a field in a new document that can input text and be resettable. The only option for it is to import that data.

@Hayden: I am not sure but I think the license would start today. Check their knowledgebase article "PDF-XChange Build 308 Introduces new product secure serial protection system - End User Upgrade Guide". Since you'll be buying a new license direct from them today, I would assume it would activate today. It says that only their registered resellers get activation codes to enter into their system to generate the key file. But if you are an active user, why not just extend the updates and pay the maintenance fee? It should be cheaper than this deal.

Overall I am liking the program. I think I'll be getting it. From what I read in their knowledge base articles, updates are free for a year, after a year you can pay a maintenance fee to continue getting updates. So if your year is up you can't get anymore updates. The software up to that version can be used perpetually, if you reinstall your computer or get a new box, you have to download and install a version equal or lower than the version on the day your year ended or it will install only the free/trial version. That info is stored on their site in your account, as are links to older versions. I am a little confused though on what happens if you don't pay the maintenance fee at the end of the year. One article says you have to pay an "upgrade" fee after the 13th month so they give a one month grace period. But no upgrade pricing is given on their site that I could find. But it looks as if the maintenance fee is 17.5% of the MSRP, for this product it's $7.61 for another year. If I were to guess, the upgrade pricing would be about the same price as this deal.

Mark Johnson I've been using pdf-xchange for several years now, renewing a license for the "PDF-Tools" package.

You can see the different products here:
http://www.tracker-softwa...ison-chart

The product I have includes the viewer and editor, plus some more features. Just to give you an idea of ongoing costs, I last renewed on April 14, 2013, and the cost was $13.50 for two years of maintenance and all updates. So... the renewals are very reasonable. I would expect if you buy the editor that the renewal fees would be even lower.

Tracker is still updating the viewer (last update late October), and you still have the option of using the viewer instead of the editor. I use the product more than anything else for reading technical books, which always have some errors in them. I go to the book's errata page and then use the edit functions to update the pdf with the errata so my version is as error-free as possible. I sometimes use the more advanced functions available in the "PDF-Tools" package, but just an editor license would be plenty for 95% of what I do.

For me the purchase has been very worthwhile. The markups I can do in PDFs would cost an arm-and-a-leg for a license of the Adobe product, plus pdf-xchange is faster and in many cases renders a truer copy.

If I am just reading a pdf I generally use the pdf-xchange viewer instead of the editor. It is lighter weight, and also has more options for viewing. For example the full-page view (F12) in the viewer is a lot more configurable than in the editor, but perhaps coming updates to the editor will erase those viewing differences.

I've tried several competing free and low-cost products, and found pdf-xchange to work best for pdf markups and general pdf viewing. I haven't done that comparison in the past 3 years or so, though, so conditions might have changed.

John Verbeeten Hi Mark,

Thank you for your input, glad you value and are happy with the software.
I wanted to add that the next release of the Editor build 5.5.0.312.0 scheduled for release sometime in Dec, is being devoted to getting the rest of the features from the Viewer that are yet to make it into the Editor in there, including the improvements to Full-screen mode. Have a great day! As well, the extended product maintenance can be added at the time of purchase for $6.52 USD for an extra year (2 total) and $10.87 USD for 2 extra years (3 total) as all licenses include 1 year product maintenance included in the license cost. Prior to the expiration of the included or purchased maintenance renewals are $7.61 USD for 1 year and $13.05 USD for 2 years based on current retail price of the license. And as always, you are entitled to use the last version release of the Editor/Viewer/included Lite printer that came out during your active maintenance term, in perpetuity.
John Verbeeten Hi H.H.,

The IE conversion addin is not part of the Editor package, it is included in the PDF-XChange Standard and Pro packages as part of the MSOffice Integration. Improvements are ongoing and if you have a specific issue with the conversion please do contact our support team at support@tracker-software.com.
Loco78 * I bought PDF-XChange Pro and signed up for the program.
In addition samy, a program which is very good and reduced price pleasantly surprised me the opportunity to upgrade at a discounted price for larger version but most cheered me purchasing function for the next 24 or 36 months license for the help and update at a low price and the ability to purchase PDF Tools in such a small price.
I am very happy with my purchase and I'm glad that I joined the Tracker Software Products due to the very good programs and cheap to submit an update for the coming years can not be said about other programs of this type who belongs to a party where the submission of license costs at least half and from such a high price . Good job, only so forth.
Regards

Larry Hall I have been looking for a pdf editor. However, like so many others have said the website is too confusing and does not show a "PDF-XChange Editor PRO". It shows "PDF-Exchange Editor" for the $43.50 or "PDF-Exchange Pro" for $79.50, but no "PDF-Exchange Editor Pro! I don't really know what I'd be buying.
Also when I went to one of the pages at their website, my virus program (Eset) blocked 5 sites that their website wanted to open. I really want a pdf editor and this one may be great but there a too many red flags for me to buy it.

Lito @larry: I had no issues with their website, I bought the program yesterday and it works very well for my use. PDF-Xchange Editor and PDF-Xchange Editor Pro are actually the same product. The "Pro" designation is there term for purchased version that allows for some features to be used without watermarks appearing in the created/edited PDF file. The main ones being the Add Text tool and the Edit Content tools. If you download the trial, you can use those features, but when you save the PDF there will be DEMO version and where to purchase IIRC watermarks on the pages of the PDF file.

Danny Is PDF-Tools features also found in PDF-XChange Editor PRO?
Nov 12 2014 at 12:25pm Copy Link

John Verbeeten Hi Danny,

No but the PDF-Tools license also includes the PDF-XChange Editor so PDF-Tools license includes the features of the included Editor. The PDF-Tools license does not however include the PDF-XChange Lite printer like the Editor license does.
Danny @John Verbeeten,

Thanks for your reply.

So we both need to complete PDF functionality available?
Nov 12 2014 at 1:25pm Copy Link
0
John Verbeeten Danny You do not need both licenses but you can upgrade your Editor license to a PDF-Tools license very inexpensively and the New PDF-Tools serial key will license both the PDF-Tools and Editor applications. Then you will have the complete set of features listed for the PDF-Tools product.

If you have more specific sales questions please email our staff at sales@tracker-software.com.

Cheers
