Virus Scan for PDF-XChange PRO

Florence De-Drymond (1). Can these documents be read on the sever with a normal adiobe pdf reader?

(2). Can we create an hidden hyperlink in the pdf text which can be seen by an adobe reader?

(3). Does it incorpoarate hover and underline in the pdf text as say an acrobat pro 6-9

1: All files are 100% PDF format compliant and can be read by any appropriate reader - inlcuding Adobe's Acrobat.

2: You can via either the Office Addin - which provides advanced integration with MS Office components when creating new PDF files and is added to your toolbar - or post file creation using the advanced functionality in the PDF-XChange Viewer PRO also included.

3: You can underline text using the PDF-XChange Viewer and I have to say I am not familiar with the term 'Hover' so would need more info to provide an answer.

John Verbeeten Hi,

after the first year of upgrades free - you can choose to purchase an additional year or 2 of maintenace if you did not do so when purchasing - at purchase time you can do so for 15/25% of the purchase price - if you do so after this the cost is 17.5/30% of the then RRP.

If you choose to do neither - the upgrade cost will be calcualted based on how long it is since your free maintenance ran out and the then current retail price and this cannot be predicted until that time - but obviously the less time since your purchase the less expensive it will be.

Hi John, I just went to make the purchase with the addition of the 3 year upgrade option.

Based on your post above which said upgrade protection can be bought as follows, "at purchase time you can do so for 15/25% of the purchase price" I calculated that 2 years could be purchased for 15% of our purchase price of $44.40 which amounts to $6.65 or 25% for 3 years which comes to $11.10.

However, the maintenance plan in the shopping cart is not being related to the purchase price and 3 years is being priced at the full rate $18.50 and not $11.10 based on purchase price.

I have not made my purchase at this time pending your response and hopefully the cart charge being updated accordingly.

The maintenance prices are calculated based on the current retail price at the time you purchase the respective maintenance package. Today's promotion on BitsDuJour is a special case, and the "purchase price" in my first reply should indeed have been "the current RRP".

Currently Forms creation is only supported through MSOffice 2003 webforms conversion, but once the new Viewer is released at the end of May, we are working on providing plugins for the new line including a forms designer, being developed later in the year.

Is there any way to convert images to PDF without altering them or inserting them in a page? I mean be able to create PDFs in the same way as "Image to PDF" do (http://www.noliturbare.co...age-to-pdf).
Is it possible to extract images from a PDF without reconverting them? Similar to "AVS Document Converter"
Is it possible to edit PDFs (remove an image, text, etc) without converting them to other editable format?
Is there another way to convert web pages to PDF without using your Internet Explorer toolbar or using the printer and lose links?
Is it possible to add PDF's link content to the bottom of the PDF? The link's context menu only has two options: "Open URL in Browser" and "Copy Link Location" (Add Link content to the PDF).

Mr Jay Mr J - Hi I have read great reports about PDF-XChange so I tried the Viewer v2.5.201 but on launching it it gave a Blue Sceen STOP 7F.
I tried the portable version next and it did exactly the same. I also tried an earlier PRO version which I had meant to try ages ago (v4.0165.42.2) and it also gave a BSOD. When this happened the 1st time I had Opera and Chromeplus running. I Lost Opera Bookmarks (which I managed to find eventually in a tmp file) and the Chromeplus preferences had become corrupt and it deleted all my Extensions. Rather annoying. (I am running Windows XP SP3). I have looked online but can't see a solution to this. Any help would be very welcome as I would like to give the product a chance especially with the discount today.

Don Evans I'm retired and need to divest myself of a large quantity of paper records (family stuff. School, college & university notes etc). Converting most of this to PDF seems to be a good option, especially since PDF A is now an international standard format (ISO). My tests so far have shown that the trial version of PDF-Xchange Pro has everything I need to do this, but, it's rather expensive for my pocket. Is there likely to be a promotion on this soon?

Tazzie I would like to express an appreciation for all your hard work responding to all the comments and questions here ... definitely a HUGE plus when it comes to selecting software!

I also would like to request some additions to a wish list for future Tracker products (not sure which ones, as I'm still sorting that out :/):
1. Please do a BDJ promotion of PDF-XChange 4 PRO (This is for both Tracker and BDJ staff).
2. Please make products compatible with other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome. Many of us do not use IE, and not being able to use Firefox (which I've heavily customized to meet my browsing habits and needs) would greatly hamper my use of PDF products. I use the internet a great deal, and I also use the PDF format a great deal.
3. I use MS Office 2010, so the more I can use my PDF software with both Firefox and MS Office 2010, the higher my productivity will be and I'll be that much closer to Cloud 9 :)

CJCotter This IS a wonderful program that I also have been using for over two years. However, it has one big flaw. There are some digital books that when you attempt to highlight a line of text, it will also highlight half of the next line. They promised to contact me when they get this fixed. Brad Of all the PDF programs I have used over the years this one is the best IMO, low resource hog, reliable, fastest conversion, and consistently excellent results. I've used the product for 6 years, even at full price it is money well spent. Last year I bought the three year maintenance.

Amit Hello, i right now use pdfxchange viewer free for some editing of the pdf files i have, like adding lines, highlighting some text, adding some shapes. So basically just general editing. But what nice features for editing mainly are available if i purchase this deal.
2. And also tell if there is any difference in the ocr feature in free version of viewer and ocr features in this deal. And also please tell if the ocr functionality in this pro can be used to ocr images too (i mean ocring the images directly, and not after say converting them to pdf).

John Verbeeten @Amit: The OCR is a free feature of both the licensed and free Viewer & Editor and is the same feature wise. The Editor (included in the PDF-XChange PRO bundle) can open image files natively (converts to pdf on open) then you can run the OCR on them as a pdf. But no it will not maintain being an image through this process.

Constantin Florea @Charlie User, I assume you are referring to the $74.00 price you noticed on this promotion page. That price was the regular price used during the latest promotion we had for this product in May 2015. After that promotion was over, the regular price of $74.00 was showing up. However it seems that since then, at some point, the regular price was increased to $79.50 but we didn't update it into the promotion page because we were not aware of this change. I have just updated the regular price to $79.50 in this page to reflect the price on the product website.

When we have a discount for a product, the regular price is cut with a red line and the discounted price appears just above the regular price. When there is no discount (like in this case) there is only one price (the regular price) on the promotion page and that price is not cut.

Constantin Florea @MB, I am sorry about the confusion. Please see my comment above from August 19 2015 and then read the content below:

We don't currently have a discounted promotion for this product. The $79.50 price we had, was present since the last time I updated it back in 2015. Since then, it seems the regular price has changed again on the product website but we missed updating it in the promotion page. Vendors don't always let us know when they change the regular prices of their products.

When there is a discounted promotion for a product on our site, there are two prices in the promotion page and one of them (the regular price) is cut with a red line. The other one which is not cut, is the discounted price. Also, in case of a promotion, there is also a percent number present in the promotion page (toward the left side of the prices) representing as a percentage the discount used for that promotion. In case of this promotion, there is only one price present and no percent present meaning there is currently no discounted promotion available for this product on our site.

I have updated the regular price to $93.50 to reflect the price on the product website.

franp User PDF-XChange PRO is a great software with many features, an acceptable price and a good licence (lifetime licence) contrary to Adobe. I have been using it on a secondary computer for years and would recommend it, at least for a mainly pdf reading workflow.
However I had to keep Adobe Acrobat on my main computer due to better optimization of created pdf files. In some cases Acrobat produces files 10 times smaller than PDF-XChange PRO. I have alerted Tracker Software some times ago about this problem but got no follow-up and the change log since then does not show any interest in correcting that real problem.
Also got pages croped when rotated whith no resolution of the problem.
I am afraid the developers are adding features without much optimization for older features, which I find regretfull.

Adolphe Following up on John H question, I would greatly encourage readers to study in depth the PDF-XChange line of products, without being put off by the high price of the one product on offer here. I have been using the free edition of PDF-XChange Viewer for a long time (legacy product, but still available for download), and I recently switched to its more modern successor, PDF-XChange Editor (free version). It's really very good.

You might need PDF-XChange Pro which is on offer here, and which is still quite expensive, even after the rebate. However, it might well be the case that another, less expensive product from Tracker Software is plenty for you, or even one of their free products, which are surprisingly powerful.

For instance, the incredible function which creates PDF files out of any Windows application which has a print menu is available for free (for non-commercial use) : it's provided by a separate program called (improbably) PDF X-Lite.

It takes quite some time and maddening frustration trying to make some sense of the large amount of information provided on Tracker Software's site. It looks easy and clear at first glance, but believe me, the more you get into it, the more obscure it gets.

The logic of its product line is laughably illogic and confused. You won't regret, however, trying to work against their best efforts to scare you away. Their products are really good, and the help provided, both online and it the pdf manuals, is very detailed and valuable (an important point).

Ela S. Best PDF program ever - using it since v2. Invested in the Pro version some years ago, and it is worth every cent. Besides PDF creation from various programs, I use PDF-XChange together with PDF-Tools mainly for:

1. PDF reading on screen/tablet, annotations, highlighting, bookmarks - many options, simple, intuitive
2. PDF scanning (automatic, many pages in on PDF file, without pausing, very fast)
3. PDF bulk editing (cutting, separating, minimizing, OCR)

Plus the interface and hotkeys are fully customizable. Still not knowing every feature. Multi-lingual. And support is just excellent.

Corno Jacobsen Funny, I used PDF-Xchange for a long time, and liked it a lot. Then I purchased the Pro-version, only to find out it had merged with PDF-Xchange Editor Pro, so that is what I got. Now it seems PDF-Xchange Pro still exists, which bewilders me quite a bit. What is the difference? The name-giving of the products is quite confusing.

Corno Jacobsen After my earlier post I took a look at what actually has been installed (of PDF-Xchange), and believe it or not, PDF-Xchange viewer Pro did never really install as it should. If I fire up Revo Uninstaller and look what I have got, it says indeed PDF-Xchange viewer Pro (32 bits), but when I right-click for details, the installation location is greyed out. And when I go to C:\windows\programs, it lists PDF-Xchange light (from 2012), PDF-Xchange Editor (installed last year), and PDF-Xchange Viewer (but not Pro). Pro simply never installed. But when I retrieve the installation file I got after my purchase, and try to execute it again (yesterday evening), all I get is a denial, because, it says, it is already installed. Something is clearly not as it should.

I do INDEED agree w Corno !!
We started w XChange Viewer and liked it a lot.
While I continued w Viewer, when my husband's needs grew I decided to buy PDF-XChange Pro for him here at Bits, and also paid for a 3Year Maintenance surplus.

At some point along the different product mergers, different names & changing of RegKeys it became so confusing that I don't even know what is what !!
My husband still uses an older vs of "something" PRO (Editor?) (Viewer?) that I manage to install, but I bought him a new PC & do NOT know what to install, or even what is the last version the RegKey covers !!! Sigh ...
So, all in all, we paid for a product & 3Y surplus that we never were able to upgrade.
Quite disappointing !!!

Kelly Hamblin I am confused by the company's license. I purchased an earlier version of PDF-XChange Pro. Later, after purchasing a new computer I was unable to activate it. Tracker Software's website tells me the license key is invalid or empty (whatever that means). Then I was told the app couldn't be activated because it was no longer supported.

Huh?

Here it says: "After you purchase PDF-XChange PRO it may be used indefinitely."

It also says: "Transfer of a license to another owned computer is allowed."

I does state that: "Support is provided for 12 months after your purchase." Yes. Right. Fair enough, but it doesn't say that you can't move it to another computer after 12 months, and it doesn't say you can't activate it after 12 months.

So be sure you understand the restrictions imposed by the license before purchasing. I sure don't.

Adolphe One thing the PDF X-Change series gets right (judging from Viewer and Editor) is Windows high DPI scaling, and general readability of user interface. I mention this because it should go without saying, but unfortunately this is not the case, with many programs in all categories insisting to use icons or menu fonts that are so small as to be unreadable.

@ Corno Jacobsen and Tortuga : are you sure it's PDF-XChange Pro you bought at some point ? Might there be a confusion with the Pro features of PDF-XChange Viewer or PDF-XChange Editor, which require payment to activate ? In the latter case, it's the same install : the Pro features are there in any case, however if you haven't bought the licence and you use them, then you save your file afterwards, you'll get a permanent watermark in your document.

That's but one aspect of the terrible confusion in the PDF X-Change product line I was writing about... However if you did buy a product key, get in touch with Tracker Software's support, they seem to be nice people, and I don't see why they wouldn't help you reinstall a product you've actually bought.

PDF-XChange Viewer and PDF-XChange Editor can be installed side-by-side on the same PC and be launched alternatively or even at the same time. That I can vouch for, I have them both.

_*_ My story is similar to Tortuga's. It became so confusing and difficult I threw in the towel and purchased Wondershare PDFelement OCR with lifetime upgrades (no longer available). I still think PDF-XChange was better, but too difficult to keep functioning on my computer.

Yes, I'm sure I bought the "PRO" plus 3Years.
The thing is, we bought a product here w the promise that the soon to be created, the "Editor" (if I recall correctly) would be included.
So there was a name change; then they changed RegKeys. There were enough changes & confusion that I got lost.
I am not the one using it, it's on my husband's PC, but I am the one that buys, activate, upgrade, maintain everything. And I do buy LOTS of softs here, mostly to encourage small independent developers. I don't remember EVER having such a hard time w a product. It took HOURS (yes, many many hours) of trial & error, trying to figure which soft went w the new RegKey, just to get the initial one activated.
Then I gave up out of frustration.
And so the years went by & I didn't take advantage of the Plus 3Y I DID PAY for. Now I bought him a new PC, I am dreading this particular activation.
And even more so now, that Kelly Hamblin says she is unable to activate ...
Already have an headache !!! sigh

Astonishing also that the company does not bother answering !!
WHY ohhh why do they do a promo during the week-end, knowing they won't be available ?!!!! :(

Harald Vogel @Tortuga @Kelly I'm also a registered user. I have the latest version and can it install on a every new PC. All who have problem made the mistake to just download the latest version an use the key they got at purchase. This will not work as they change keys even if you have a valid maintenance!

You have to go to your account at

Its automaticly created when you did your purchase. If you haven't used it create one with the email address used for purchase. From there it is not confusing at all. You can see your license, your latest created key and if you don't have any maintenance, the latest version you can download.

If you in the Editor go to "Help / About" Latest version is 6.0 Build 319.0
In "Help / Enter license key" you can see all license information.

If this is not your version don't just download, you have to got to your account and get the latest download and your newest key!

I just added two years of maintenance and also have to go to my account as they changed my key again. They will release a new version this month and if I won't upgrade my key I will not be able to use it.

I hope this will help because its the best PDF tool i found so far.

A few things to note here:

1) New license keys are only issues under the following conditions:

- New product purchase.

- Maintenance is renewed.

- Product/license upgrade (e.g. V5.5. - V6, XChange Pro 10 user - XChange Pro 25 user, XChange Editor - XChange Pro, etc.).

- License was posted publicly and needed to be blocked.

2) Product maintenance guarantees access to upgrades and updates. One year comes free when the license is first bought, with an option to purchase an additional 1 or 2 years (2 or 3 total). Once your maintenance expires you will no longer be able to upgrade/update without first renewing your maintenance or upgrading your license. Your key will still work in the last build released prior to the expiration of your maintenance.

Kelly Hamblin I didn't want or ask to upgrade or update. I just wanted to move the app I had on the old machine to the new computer. I used the original key. It didn't work for the reasons I've already stated, and yes I jumped through all the hoops.

I guess you consider "maintenance" to mean the issuing of keys for already purchased products. You should make that clearer.

John Verbeeten @Kelly Hamblin Also, so long as your license key isn't blocked, you will not need a new license key to install, so long as you are installing the correct build. A new license key will not be issued automatically and is only issued after purchasing a maintenance extension or license upgrade, neither of which are mandatory.

Regarding the license keys - these are only changed if A) a license key upgrade is done (e.g. to a new version, new license volume, or an upgrade to a new product), or B) if your maintenance is renewed/extended.

License keys are always valid in the version and build released immediately prior to the expiration of your maintenance. For example, if Version 6 Build 319 was released on Dec 15th 2016, Version 6 Build 320 was released on Feb 15th 2017, and your maintenance expired on Jan 1st 2017 you would need to renew your maintenance in order to use build 320, or simply download and install Build 319 and your license key will still work.

Each license comes with 1 year of free maintenance, with the option to for 1 or 2 extra years (2 or 3 years total) at the time of purchase.

This means that so long as your maintenance is active and you do not upgrade your license key, you will not need nor be issued a new license key.

Harald Vogel @Kelly Hamblin Sorry, I didn't mean to offend in any way and only want trying to help. I myself made the mistake and had the same problems with not working keys until I found out about this - for me at first - kind of confusing key system. I just checked: I bought my version in 2008 und just got my 6th key. It should only be an info to look into your account as you might be able to find out why you have this problem. (I would've been very thankful if someone told when I wasn't able to register the softwre on a new PC). If nothing helps: The support people are very good and should solve your problem. SoftCollector A capable solution (despite the unnecessary plethora of different versions and name mismatch, mentioned in previous comments), but at $65.45 for just 12 months I wonder if it is actually cheap enough? Most other major .pdf editors are paid not per year, but version-to-version and the lifespan of a version is 2-3 years. They are more expensive, but it will be a close call, when all things are considered.

franp User @SoftCollector : this is not a 12 month subscription the way Adobe would understand it. You can use it forever, without time limit, but you will only get upgrades for 12 months. You can use and re-install the software after these 12 months ; the only limit is that you won't be able to upgrade to a newer version after the first year.

@SoftCollector- if you do wish to continue receiving upgrades - keeping the maintenance plan active is just a fraction of the original product cost. $23.38 USD for one year extension to your maintenance plan or $35.06 (17.53 per year) for two extra years.And this is totally optional, and even if you do not renew - the license originally purchased continues to work for as long as you want to use our products!

I understand - Account with e-mail and password is good for support, tickets... but complete datas? What will be next? Thanks for the enquiry.
As part of the pro bundle we include the PDF Tools, which will allow you to batch process files, and both the PDF Tools and the Editor have an option to delete empty pages. The difference is that Tools can apply this over many files as part of a batch while in the Editor this will be applied to the current document. Both Editor and Tools are part of the Pro bundle currently on offer so with a license purchase you wil get both.

tech club Hi, after the 12 months, if more updates are made to v7 and v8 has not been released yet, will the license still work with those newer v7 updates? Is there any promotions on the other PDF-XChange Editor, and plus versions? I mostly use the highlighting tool, so don't need the top of the line Pro version.

The licenses will work in any version released during your term of active maintenance, so if there are V7 builds released after the included 12 months have expired no they will not license with the existing key, but you are also entitled to use any version released during your term of active maintenance in perpetuity. Renewing the maintenance will include a new license key that will license all builds released for the next maintenance term. Unfortunately you just missed the PDF-XChange Editor Bits du jour promotion that ran October 16th - 19th. We do not often discount our products so it's unlikely another one will be scheduled any time soon after these 2 fall promotions.

Unfortunately no, today's promotion would not be applied to upgrading your existing license, though if you log into your account on our website created with your previous purchase, the maintenance renewal options presented for your license include a free upgrade to the latest version so its worth logging in and taking a look.

12 months product maintenance including free upgrades to new releases, both major and minor, is included with this promotion and any purchase, and once in the shopping cart you will be offered to purchase a 2nd or 3rd year if you wish. Or you can renew the maintenance for 1 or 2 years at any time, again by logging into your account. Extended maintenance added at the time of purchase is slightly better priced than maintenance renewals.

styrobrain Hi fellow taxpayers! I just noticed that where I live (in the EU) it makes a procedural difference whether you pay Tracker Software via credit card or PayPal.

On the credit card path you're charged your home country's VAT right away during the purchase, and you only learn so in actual numbers after the fact (or so it occured to me, but I may have missed something). If you pay via PayPal, as I did a few days ago (*) (**), you're not.

So if VAT management matters to you, think of it beforehand, because as the fine print says, "No return policy."

(*) = Yes, I am a PDF editor junkie.

(**) = Tracker Software, I run a mildly absurd number of strictly personal computers due to some geographical / behavioral idiosyncrasies... and would LOVE you to switch to a 'licensed per user' scheme!

bvssunnydale Hi, couple more questions (1) I'm currently using Acrobat 9 Pro, a bit old but still works, but frequently have trouble printing PDFs from browsers (as they appear on the web), would this be any better or is this primarily not a PDF but a browser related problem?, and (2) does the form creation process allow for simple (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) mathematical processing (we're currently using Excel for forms (which creates more problems than it solves) and just need those simple math processing tricks on forms (add cell A, B, C and sum in cell E, kinda thing). Thanks.

There are 2 credit card processors that we use, SWREG/Digital River (the first payment by credit card option in the checkout) acts as the seller when their services are used and they apply and collect any VAT or US State sales tax that they have a tax nexus in. PayPal processing the transaction we remain the seller in the transaction and no taxes are applied unless you live in Canada.
