What are people saying about priPrinter Standard

Software Guy What is your upgrade policy? Is this a single user license, or is this good for multiple users on a machine? Do you allow us to install on multiple machines such as our desktop., laptop and netbook? THANKS!

Aron Torti Upgrade policy:
All bug fixes and minor updates are always free. Upgrade from one major release to next one is free as well. It means that owners of priPrinter 2.X will be able to use priPrinter 3.X.

One registered copy of the SOFTWARE may either be used by a single person who uses the SOFTWARE personally on one or more computers, or installed on a single workstation used non-simultaneously by multiple people, but not both.

S B priPrinter looks like nice software.

How much editing can be done in priPrinter on each individual page before it's printed?

Can images be removed?

Can it help print web pages with unwanted columns?

How does it compare with FinePrint?

Thank you!

Michael R This license is for the stable v2 and the upcoming v3, currently in beta, right?

How does the crop/layout work? Can I define bitmap regions, like in a graphics-program and delete them or move these to another position or page(!) before printing?
Jan 14 2010 at 5:24pm Copy Link
0
Aron Torti - License is for v2, v3 Standard and for next one.
- Crop is just a rectangle. It removes margings, while internal part will be visible. In additional to crop you are able to remove internal parts with cut tool. Cut works with rectangles but you may remove as many parts as you want to. All this stuff can be moved, changed and can be applied to single page, job, all jobs or selected pages. Crop rectangle can be saved to theme file and used later.
- There is an option to remove all images. Or you may RClick on any image and remove it from context menu.
- Source pages can be deleted, duplicated, moved, scaled, rotated (with 90 deg step) on the paper sheet. Internals of each page can be removed with cut tool or you may draw white rectangle on top of anything.
- priPrinter does more than FinePrint . At least we think so.

Michael R Thanks Aron,

I just downloaded and checked out the v3-trial-version. Yet just previewing, without any printing... Looked quite good, but I have some annotations:

As it seems, it's not possible to rearrange the rectangles. (This is what I meant above). So you could cut some advertisements out, without having too ugly gaps in the page.

What I was missing is to be able to have an image as a watermark. Yes, I saw you can insert images too, but using them as a watermark it seems to me there would be the need of an alpha channel and a transparency-level to configure.

Perhaps these two features will make it to the v3-final version?

Thanks you...

Aron Torti Hi Michael,

Could you please send to our email screenshots of what you are trying to achieve and image you are trying to insert?

It could be a right feature to have, however not for 3.0. Sorry.
3.1 or 3.2 sounds more realistic.

Thanks,

Frank Stephens Aron Torti, priPrinter has some interesting differences from other print preview/paper-saving/booklet virtual printers. I'm curious about how it appears to applications. It doesn't set itself up like most virtual printers. Its Properties simply indicate A4 paper is available, but its Preferences apparently let you select among paper sizes supported by your other installed printers. It apparently uses its own virtual resolution, defaulting to 1200 dpi, max 1600. It defaults to the RAW print processor, which is typical of most virtual printers.
Jan 17 2010 at 12:26am Copy Link
0
Aron Torti Hi Frank,
Actually it behaves like ordinary printer. Applications use it in the same way as any other printer, virtual or real.
Application is able to select any paper size, standard or custom.
Resolution can control precision of vector graphics and character positions. High DPI values are good with page rescaling. However auto generated 2d graphics, like Flash, may require more memory in such case and decrease printing speed.
Not sure about RAW, as far as I know it is not critical.

Bob S Three basic questions:
1. If I first print to priPrinter, how does I then print to one's printer?
2. I often print to a pdf program to create pdf copies. Is there any advantage to printing to priPrinter first, assuming I'm happy w/ the layout of the print version?
3. You mention that priPrinter can rescale a page (larger or smaller) - if one rescales up to enlarge a page, do images or fonts "pixillate" or does priPrinter somehow prevent that?

Thank you.

Bob S One other question - is there a "draft mode" that would save on toner, compared to printing in usual mode? If so, I could justify getting the software on that basis alone.

Michael R Hi Aron,

yet to the rearrange-idea above:

Let's say you have two pages with some text, you want to print (t1 and t2) and some unwanted advertisment (a), which would look like the following int the layout:

page 1: page 2:

t1t1t1 aaaaaa | t2t2t2 aaaaaaa
t1t1t1 aaaaaa | t2t2t2 aaaaaaa
t1t1t1 aaaaaa | t2t2t2 aaaaaaa
aaaaaa | aaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaa | aaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaa | aaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaa | aaaaaaaaaaa

The idea was to cut the ads and to move the text-block of the second page on the first page, so you just have to print one page. The result would e.g. look like this:

t1t1t1 t2t2t2
t1t1t1 t2t2t2
t1t1t1 t2t2t2
Jan 19 2010 at 7:09pm Copy Link
0
Michael R Sorry: The resulting output was not what it looks like when entering my comment.

Another try:

page 1: page 2:

t1t1t1 aaaaaa | t2t2t2 aaaaaaa
t1t1t1 aaaaaa | t2t2t2 aaaaaaa
t1t1t1 aaaaaa | t2t2t2 aaaaaaa
aaaaaa | aaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaa | aaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaa | aaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaa | aaaaaaaaaaaaaa

result on just one page:

t1t1t1 t2t2t2
t1t1t1 t2t2t2
t1t1t1 t2t2t2

Aron Torti Hi Bob,

1. There is a button to print job to another printer.
2. If you are happy with everything then you can print directly to pdf without priPrinter.
3. In most cases there should be no such problems.
4. In V3 we've added this feature. In printer options you are able to select this mode and level of toner saving.
However I suggest you to try it on your own printer, it may be slow.

Thanks

S B Though I've been a happy user of FinePrint (a really great and work-style-changing product!), I have been trying out priPrinter v. 2 and have just purchased a license. I now prefer priPrinter to FinePrint.

priPrinter has a modern and much better and cleaner interface, and additional functions that I think are important, especially,
1) the ability to scale up the pages for larger print (though a finer, real-time adjustment/view would be great)
2) the ability to remove individual images or all images,
3) the easy ability to print in black and white
4) easier ability to view and delete previous print jobs
5) much more powerful previews, etc.

priPrinter is the clear winner for me.

Many thanks!

Steve Coppard I bought this at full price some months ago and have never regretted a penny of the investment! This is absolutely the very best print program. I used FinePrint for many years before this but PriPrinter is vastly better, exceptioanlly powerful, very user friendly and with a range of features it is hard to credit, including actually making corrections and changes to print jobs (eg changing a spelling, highlighting/recolouring text etc). You can also zoom and move whole print jobs on the virtual paper to achieve exactly the result you want before you waste toner and paper. Not only that but the developer response is excellent if an issue does arise. I recommend this very highly indeed.

S B This is a *wonderful* product. It's one of the major work/workflow changing utilities. I was a very happy, long-time user of the esteemed FinePrint--until I tried and then purchased priPrinter the last time it appeared in BDJ. priPrinter is a much more advanced, newer-generation product, and very easy to use. I use priPrinter routinely as printer output; I have a better preview and much more control than with the standard "Print Preview," (or even with FinePrint) and can tweak the output at will. I save paper and bulk, too. I am *very* happy with priPrinter and use it constantly. (See my comments in the "Old Comments" section for more details). *Very* highly recommended!

Dan P I'm very disappointed that the Professional version won't be offered at the same time.  However, I will be buying this offered version of priPrinter but it is highly unlikely I will ever upgrade to the Professional.

Stefan Hauber I also bought the offer last time and am very happy with it. Of couse it is my standard-printer.

There is one thing I am wondering, though? If I e.g. print the screenshot-page (of e.g. this product) only that much is printed as has place on a single page. That means the third screenshot is not printed at all. Why is this the case? In my opinion it is, because the shown three images are in reality just one. But it would be nice, if priPrinter would find a way to split this one image over two (or more) pages...

I have to admit, I would also like to have the pro-version offered here. It's not so much the pdf-printing-ability - there are a lot of pdf-printer-drivers out there. It's the possibility to rearrange objects. Of couse I would need to test these features yet, if they would fullfil my needs. So perhaps next time?

Tore Hoyem Oh dear! I was very excited just now, when I noticed that priPrinter was back on BDJ. But like several other posters, I really wanted the Pro version . Aron Torti Thank you guys for your interest in Professional edition, will see what we can do here. Regarding "screenshot-page": You are right, these screenshots are one picture, that's why your browser (IE, Firefox or Chrome) does not print it correctly, it can't fit it into one page. In this particular case you may define tall page and print to it from your browser. Page size could be 200x600 mm  for instance.

Jim Maioriello I have recently discovered this category of printer utilities and have been evaluating FinePrint, based on a recommendation I picked up elsewhere.  I have been using it for  a couple of weeks and I am very impressed.  I was about to purchase a license until I saw this offer come across BTJ.  PriPrinter  definitely has a modern look and feel, but there is one feature I noticed that FinePrint does, but am unable to find it in PriPrinter is the ability to add a page number to the source pages.  For example, if I print a sheet with 4 pages on it, how can I tell the page order of those pages.  I did noticed that I can view the page numbers on screen, but can I print the page number on the sheet as well? Also, count me in as someone who would be interested in the Professional version.  The one professional version feature I want is the ability to edit the pages before printing.  I don't believe that is possible in FinePrint, but I have noticed instances where that feature would have been useful. Jim

Thank you Aron, for your prompt reply.  Very much appreciated!

Now that you pointed it out, I can see that it was in front of me.

I guess I didn't realize it before because the job page number looked a lot like it was the sheet page number (I guess I was looking at a source page of 1 on a sheet so they appeared the same).

Jim Maioriello One feature that I  really  like about FinePrint is the page text expands to use all of the whitespace available.  In effect, margins are at their absolute minimum and the text size is maximized.  Both help make it page more readable and I believe it's a more efficient use of the available page.  FinePrint does this automatically. Can I get PriPrint to do this as well?  I have tried to make it do that by adjusting the margins and custom scaling and such.  But, I just can't get it to come out the same.  And, you have to reset those setting if you change the # pages/sheet.
Sep 21 2010 at 12:40am Copy Link
0
Aron Torti I assume, it is because of margins in source pages - they are not removed automatically now (this feature will be added soon). You may achieve this by selecting Auto Trim button in crop tab or by defining margins in printer preferences. Could you please send me your file ? I will check what can be done.
Pelikan Software KFT - Sep 21 2010 at 1:59am Copy Link
0
Jim Maioriello Aron, I tried your suggestion of using the Auto Trim property and it worked nicely in this one instance.  I will also play with defining the margins and see if that's make a difference too.  Perhaps, I can use that to make the process automatic.

I cannot send you the document I was using as it contains proprietary information, but thanks for the offer anyway.  I can tell you this document is basically several pages of tabular data where the table columns extended beyond the paragraph margins defined in Word.

Jim Willis Hello - I tried several times to order this software and found that I COULD NOT ORDER IT.
Trying to order by using my Visa card and I get a message telling me Visa orders ARE NOT ACCEPTED using a free email address, which is the only email address I have ever used. Been using this for 8 years now and NEVER had any problems ordering anything online - until now.
I'm instructed to use Paypal with my free email address-so I try that and IT STILL DOES NOT WORK.
I'm now really unhappy and feel that this is total BS on someones part.
I've talked to you guys both by phone and by email and found that you were pretty nice folks.
Unfortunately, I can't say that about your order processing outfit Digital River.
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Walter Williams I have 2 things to say: 1 . I too would request something be offered about the Pro Version be it a discount of upgrade discount, as it's the version I'd prefer to buy as it allows the user to enter text (according to the comparison page) 2. Re: Free eMail: I actually haven't made my purchase yet, so I can't confirm what has been written by others, but will do when I get home and have more time, HOWEVER I have bought software recently via secure.Shareit.com  and I DO NOT have a paid email account (Gmail.com for me) and I have not had any problems purchasing software offered on BitsDuJour.com. Having said that I don't recall seeing the "Free eMail" clause in my previous purchases, ( is it specific to Pelikan Software purchases on Sharetit ?) I suppose I'll find out if I can successfully buy priPrinter using a credit card and Gmail in only a few hours time from now. "Note: Important product-specific information such as the invoice or license key will be sent to you by e-mail. Free e-mail addresses are not accepted for online orders paid by credit or debit card. Click here for more information on how to order using a https://secure.shareit.co...7246ace943# . " If, it is in fact impossible to use Gmail (or other free email accounts) & a Credit Card, then you're cutting yourself off from a lot of possible very legitimate buyers around the world .

Roger Thomasson @ Kimberly Apologies for the inconvenience.  This new policy system is still a bit rough around the edges, especially when it comes to retroactively changing the thousands of promotions already in our database.   I've contacted the vendor, he should have more information for us shortly. -r

Aron Torti @ Kimberly One registered copy of the SOFTWARE (Personal License) may either be used by a single person who uses the SOFTWARE personally on one or more computers, or installed on a single workstation used non-simultaneously by multiple people, but not both. @Stephane M owners of  priPrinter 3.x, will get 4.x for free. Upgrade to 5.X may cost some percent from full amount or it could be free as well. Sorry not decided yet.

Jim Willis Hello Aron - Just an update to my problem with using my free email account (see my comment above).
Thank you for your help in getting my purchase to finally work using Paypal.
Very BAD experience using Share-It and I'm still mad about that.
Very GOOD experience with the developer's support system.
They replied very quickly to my email and provided a very workable solution to my problem.
I've never used this software but, to judge from all the positive reviews about it, and from my own experience with their support, I think I'm going to be very happy with today's purchase.

Roger Thomasson @ Jim Glad to hear that everything is sorted out for you.  Sorry about the free email nonsense, I have no idea why Share-it ever implemented this odd policy in the first place.  We've complained several times, but obviously with little effect.   I'll take this opportunity to lodge yet another complaint... -r

Michael R. I bought v3 some time ago, use it heavily and highly recommend it.

For v3-buyers v4.x was free.
Now I'm wondering which versions for the former v3-buyers are also free.Originally I thought a v5-upgrade would not be free, but when installing lately the v5, it seemed that my v3-license was accepted too. So, is v5 free for formers v3-buyers too?

If I understand the license correctly, today's buyers will get all v5.x and v6.x standard versions for free. Is this correct?

In this offer there is a little button 'Looking for Pro'. Unfortunately it does not lead to the Pro-offer...

Btw, has printing to PDF (in the Pro-version) any advantages to other pdf-printer tools (which are also printing to a pdf-file instead to a printer)?

Aron Torti Upgrade to the next major version is free. Next upgrade could be free as well - as it was with 5.0. However we are reserving right to charge for the following upgrades. For instance upgrade to 7.0 for owner of priPrinter 5.0 could be for charge.

Yes, today's buyers will get v5.x and v6.x standard versions for free.

Pro is not about PDF only, it's also provides some text corrections, print history, scripting...
Regarding PDF, pro version provides more UI friendy and efficient way of PDF publishing. Technically export is implemented in program itself, not in driver. So printer driver can be small and fast, while program can analize print job in many ways in order to produce better PDF.
For instance watermarks can be saved to PDF using transparency. In case of printing transparency will be implemented via bitmasks and halftoning.

Are all v5.x-version free for v3 buyers (or do I have to check this with each update)?

With all due respect, the Pro version is what most people will need because of the PDF output option.
Whilst I realise that software developers do ned to recover their development costs, the Pro version is far too expensive. I would like to see it at a reduced in price for a BdeJ promotion and it is likely that a lot of serious users would take advantage.
For me personally, the standard version is of very limited use, I shall stay with PDF Factory Pro,

Brian H Hi- this looks like a great program, but I have to agree with other Bitsers that it is pretty obvious most people would want the *Pro* version (and would have expected it to be available alongside the standard version on the day of the offer. Perhaps with all the interest expressed in the "Pro" version here on the offer page, Pelikan will reconsider and, in fact, offer both versions on the day of the actual offer.

Having said that, I have an additional product question for both the Pelikan rep and the current "priPrinter" users. Two people have mentioned what appears to be a formidable competing program, "PDF Factory Pro" How do the two programs compare, feature-wise? Are there any features that priPrinter Pro offers that PDF Factory Pro does not? Amy other reasons to choose priPrinter Pro over "PDF Factory Pro? Thanks! -Brian

Aron Torti We have few nice features in this release. Full list is on our site,
I only want to highlight these, unique features:
# Full support of Cut/Copy/Paste and Delete. It is possible to:
- select rectangular area and copy to another page or even job
- move part of page, let's say to the top of page
- remove large white spaces and reduce page height or combine pages. Sample usage is covered here: http://www.priprinter.com..._pages.htm

This works in native format without conversion into bitmaps.

# Print History is another one. It's possible to view incoming and outcoming jobs.

Aron Torti One more: Professional version can work with Standard license. All standard functionality must work fine, there will be no reminders or watermarks. Some professional features like: Print History, Scripting, page combining and content shrinking will work (at least in this version).

PDF publishing and text edition will remind (via watermarks) that professional license is required.

S B This is a major game-changer.

It's easily worth it if only for being able to preview and tweak printed output, but it does so much, much more.

I use priPrinter regularly to print from web pages: it lets me print only what I want, and at the size I want. Efficient (for both paper and reader) "2-up" side-by-side printed text becomes readable!

I just pick the text or regions I want and resize them to an easily-readable full page (usually nearly automatically).

I can get rid of annoying images, backgrounds, headings, and extraneous pages too.

Pages can be handled independently, in groups, or all at once. Making adjustments is quick and easy. Lots of power, but with intuitive defaults. It just keeps getting better and better.

Very highly recommended.

Glen Hilton VG software but the standard to Pro upgrade is simply too pricey at the regular site price.. For those taking up this good offer you may have to consider the possibility of no deals on Pro upgrades at all or wait for a Pro offer - if at all. As Aron says "Who knows"
Aron, I think many users pick up the standard version with a deal such as this, spend some time with it and realise that the extra features are indeed worth having, though at a premium price.. Hope you consider some of your customer thoughts here at a later date.

You can print to any printer connected to your computer - locally or via network. There is no restrictions.

Server edition allows to print to priprinter from another computers. Preview will be displayed on the main computer. Let's say you are printing from laptop to desktop, preview will be shown on desktop computer. You can edit pages there and print. This is a special version, since driver works little bit differently and implements some mechanisms not required for ordinary printing.

Rich OBrien priPrinter is a brilliant but maddening piece of software.
because the user interface is very non-standard. If you don't use priPrinter often, you'll have to struggle to figure it out each time you use it.
I spent a bunch of time illustrating a picture of how the toolbar could be rearranged and improved. And I explained the reason for each change in detail but my ideas were totally ignored.
I seldom use the Standard version and can't afford the Pro version. I don't care about the Pro version's ability to create PDF files. I have three other programs that can do that. What I want is the ability to correct spelling errors and typos, change the size of text and change the font before printing.
priPrinter's impressive ability to make animated booklets with pages that turn should be moved to the priPrinter Pro version. A more affordable third version should be priced between the standard and Pro versions and this intermediate version: "priPrinter Edit" should provide the ability to correct spelling errors and typos, change the size of text and change the font before printing.

Steven Avery Hi,

Bullzip has been very good as a free PDF printer, so I can pass without that. However, the stuff like annotations and highlighting sounds nice, I do a bit of that with sticky notes (when printing a screen).

I used Priprinter for awhile, and liked it, at the moment I am using competitor fineprint, I got used to the super-simple interface. Plus I use WinSnap to choose part of a page, but of course that does not do much for large HTML or PDFs and such.

Just for the newbies, if you only use these programs to easily print out 2-page in 1 or 4-page.. or review a job and get rid of pages not needed, you find it is nice. Especially if you are using a slow inkjet.

Maybe I wlll try Pri again tonight. Although the posters make a good point about the pro. This is sort of a pro type group here.
