New feature alert: Spider Player now includes the Lyrics Pane, allowing users to download and view the lyrics to almost any song!

Seriously, when was the last time you upgraded your sound card in your computer? It's not something that comes to mind immediately, and yet digital music is produced today with greater and greater audio fidelity. Well, now you can go back to not thinking about upgrading your hardware, because Spider Player, the Ultimate Music Player, is here, and what I'm about to tell you will be music to your ears.

First of all, Spider Player has internal 32-bit sound processing that adds extra clarity and fidelity to playback, even if your hardware doesn't natively support such audio resolutions! In addition to all of your old tried-and-true stereo and mono recordings, Spider Player also can play audio tracks in full 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound!

With Spider Player, you have an entire universe of music at your fingertips. Supporting over 30 different audio formats, plus the ability to stream audio files over the internet and tune in internet radio stations, Spider Player ensures that you'll always have something to listen to.

Spider Player also lets you rip CDs and convert any audio file from one format to another. And, just as you would expect from The Ultimate Music Player, Spider Player comes complete with a ten-band graphic equalizer with various presets, local and global hotkey support, playlist management, internet radio directory, and a "favorites" editor.

But that's not all! Spider Player can continuously record Internet streams straight to MP3 format! An exact audio copy of an Internet stream is created, preserving both format and bitrate!

Feel like changing the view? Spider Player comes with a variety of different skins, plus the ability to create your own customized skins!

Glen Hilton Terrific buy on BDJ deal day, Great product, UI and features. Happy to support this author and an application that is getting even better.

Gary I second Mr. Hilton's comments. I rarely comment about anything, but I am happy to comment about and support this excellent product. It's one of my favorite apps.
I used the free version for a couple of years and loved it. I never thought I would use the additional features of the PRO version, so I never considered it until it was offered here a few months ago. What a deal! It's worth the full price and is a steal from BDJ at 50% off. My favorite PRO feature is the ability to continuously record internet streams in MP3 format, and it's unlimited too. I think the free version is only a few minutes. This little player is not bloated with unnecessary junk like the more popular players, and most of the skins are easier on the eyes too. Get this player. You won't regret it.

DrTeeth Some people would say I comment too often LOL.

This software is brilliant and continuously developed. The developer is very responsive to suggestions and trusts his customers with very generous licence terms.

A steal at full price, shame not to buy on offer.

Daniel Walker I find I am unable to sit and listen - telephone ... so have NOT used it ... BUT I bought this in the past ... It seems so useful - I just wish I was able to sit and listen these days.

Is this version covered by my earlier purchase?

Sabine N. Wow, I'm impressed. I downloaded and tested the player and right away purchased it. The sound is exceptional and, though clear and simple, it does have all the features one could wish. I love that it combines with recording from radio since its lightweight (having AudialsOne, I did record rarely because the program is so "heavy").
Thank you for a wonderful software!
The only thing I really do not like at all is its name and the pic of the ugly spider on the button as spiders really are not welcome in my life lol. Couldn't you rename it to something nicer, like for example Colibri or Nightingale Player lol?

Harald Vogel Hello Vitaly,

do you have or plan any special features for Audiobook-Listeners? I read in your forum that you thought about a bookmark feature but this was in 2008. I also heard about the "Save Track Position On Close" option but as I understand it the track position get lost when I open another audio and go back to my audiobook.

Is there anything planned for the near future? The "Save Track Position" would be great if the position could be saved for the file and woud be preserved until I continue with this file even when I play other files in between.

Thanks for your great work.

Vitaly Kravchenko Harald,

Thanks for your feedback!

I'll see if I can enhance the Favorites feature in a way that will allow for position to be saved as well.

Michael Crosson Is the license per user or per computer? I am a single person but have three computers (desktop, laptop and netbook).

Vitaly Kravchenko Michael,

The license is very flexible, either use the program on many PCs to which only one user has access or on a single PC used by several people.

BTW, I just corrected (lowered) the prices for EUR, AUD, CAD and JPY currencies :)

Chris Neumann Hello! I have a ton of CDs converted to lossless WMA files and stored in separate folders that correspond to different artists and CD albums. Would this program be able to batch-convert all my files into MP3s and keep the same file hierarchy of folders and files, without going through enormous effort doing it by hand?

Sabine N. Vitaly,

That would be great (renaming).
I have just installed it on my netbook too - and am totally happy: until now the sound was nearly unusable on my netbook, but with Spiderplayer its such a big difference, its almost unbelievable. Now I can finally listen to music from my netbook too if I'm anywhere.

And, question: I coulnd't figure out yet where the lyrics do appear?
The automatic lyrics download is activated but where do they appear and where are they saved to??

thanks! That would be great. I hope you will find a way. Count me in as a new customer.

Vitaly Kravchenko Chris,

All files will be put to the specified output folder after conversion, so hierarchy won't be preserved.

Henry Wittle I am interested in the audio program you offer , Vitaly, but have a question that is relevent to the one posed by Chris.

Will this program interact with the two other audio programs I utilize or will it become a dominent default?

Azziz Mouloud Can radio be searched by countries, because I looked and I dont see sort by countries, Also can the list be updated by adding new radios that I search on the internet. What is the licence policy and updates. Thank you

Vitaly Kravchenko Please see my previous comment on licensing policy.
Upgrades are free for life.
Spider merely provides access to Shoutcast and Icecast radio directories. They aren't stored in the player. So adding new radios must be done at their respective websites.

Jim Maioriello Hello Vitaly,

This looks like a terrific piece of software. I purchased a copy and installed it. But, when I went to try to download the newest version from the product website (http://spider-player.com/download), the button takes me to a page to the shopping cart instead.

Is there another link to download 2.5.2?

Thanks,

Jim

Berry Taylor Hi Mr Maioriello

I purchased earlier after downloading from the same link you posted and I just checked again and it downloaded 2.5.2 to my system.

Seems to be working fine, at least for me then and now.

cheers

F. Edwin Felty The Iconico Store is inaccessible at this time, as PSINet has several servers that are sick and dropping packets everywhere. The last server before the store is called WALLABY (38.104.70.146) is dropping 76% of the packets. I'm going to keep trying, but there is only about an hour and a half left on this deal. Hope they get it fixed!!!

I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to here. The purchase link for the Spider Player PRO promotion seems to be working fine. Could you please email me at roger AT bitsdujour DOT com with more details?

Thanks!

Vitaly Kravchenko Jim,

Spider Player uses a single installer for both the Basic and PRO versions. It's the registration key that tells the program in which mode to operate: Basic or PRO.

So when a new version is out, you still have to download the Basic version installer, even if you are a registered user.

There is no need to register the program with your key every time you upgrade, though. Spider Player will detect your registration key automatically and turn itself into a PRO version.

a a Further to Chris Neumann's question/comment on batch converting files, I have a couple of suggestions for Spider Player:

1. Have an option to place converted files in same folder as source file.

2. Have a right-click shell extension for the converter, which allows conversion of multiple files and/or folders from Explorer. As most people will probably only want to convert to one or two formats, it would be nice if the user could choose which formats were displayed on the context menu (eg. have checkbox options for all supported formats, and only display "Convert to ..." menu items for the checked items). Some people also prefer cascaded menu items, so this could also be an option.

You could also have a "Recurse sub-folders" checkbox option, so the user can decide what happens when a folder is included in the context menu convert operation. If enabled, it will traverse all files and sub-folders, converting all relevant files to the specified format.

3. Related to the recurse sub-folders option, it would be handy if the user could specify what files should be considered for conversion through multiple wildcards. For example, by specifying "*.wav, *.flac" in context menu conversion prefs, only files ending in .wav or .flac would be converted for selected folders.

Prefs for suggestions (2) and (3) could go in a "Context menu" section on the Options-Converter page.

All three options would allow for easy batch conversion of audio files from Explorer (and other file managers).
