Nick Kobe Hi!

I have a desktop computer and several laptops. I'm the only user of these computers. Is your software license per user or do I have to purchase a license for each computer I want to install the software on if I'm the only user of the computers?

Thanks!

Brad Hello,

I have tried to purchase SyncPST multiple times using three different browsers this evening, having tried the purchase link using IE8, Firefox 3.5, and Opera 10.10 and the link for purchase is not working. I purchased OutlookBackup and NoMoreDupes, over the last couple of days via links from BoomerApps to the Wisco vendor via the links provided and experienced no issues but the link for SyncPST is not working. The redirection link takes you to the Cleverbridge purchase site for SyncPST but nothing is being put into the cart and any attempt to add it manually once you are there does not provide the discount. I will check back in the morning to see if the link is working by then. I would like to purchase the product. I have finals tommorrow so I wanted to get this purchase taken care of tonight, but I will just check back later. It is currently 10:08 P.M. in the Pacific Time Zone on 12-15-2009 here in Northern California.

By the way all your Outlook products work awesome. They have made short work of managing my multiple Outlook 2007 profiles between my Desktop and Laptop. And what a great deal to boot.

Thanks very much for looking into this.

Thomas Wetzel 'SynchPst for Outlook' is licensed per computer.

But if you want to synchronize your main computer with several laptops then it is enough to buy one license.

Install this one license on the main computer and synchronize from here with the other laptops. On the laptops you need to share the folder of your Outlook data file.

Nick Kobe Hi!

Thanks for your reply. However, the scenario for multiple computer on a single license doesn't work for me. Though I use the desktop as my "primary computer" I frequently use several laptops on a trip and would need for them to sync since I might be gone for several days. I currently run the pst file from a USB flash drive and this will probably work better then trying to sync with one desktop. Ideally, the software could be on each computer and they could be sync'd on the fly.

Thomas Wetzel Hi Nick,

you can install 'SynchPst for Outlook' of course on each computer and synchronize with a central pst file.
In this case you need for each computer one license.

Rich Moore Hi Thomas,

Since the 'SyncPST for Outlook' license is activated for one specific computer, what happens if I need to move that to a different machine in the future (due to new computer, OS re-install, etc -- I tend to change machines more frequently than most people)?

Also, what is your upgrade policy? Lifetime updates or discount upgrade on major releases?

Thanks,

Rich

Nick Kobe Hi Thomas!

I have been putting a copy of the pst file on a USB flash drive for a long time and using a "standard" multi-purpose sync program (Super Flexible File Synchronizer), without a problem to sync that file with the pst file on a backup drive. The USB flash drive is always up to date and can be used on any computer with Outlook. Why would anyone want to spend $34 to put this software on each computer? Or for that matter if they have a good sync program why would they need it at all?

anthonyraynor? With moving computers and a few syncing experiments I ended up with 3 or 4 .pst files.  SynchPST handled them with ease and I like the uni or bidirectional sync option.  I wonder if I could locate my .pst file on my windows home server and point the individual clients at it?  Overall it appears to be a good tool.  Your .pst file is not something you want to lose.
May 30 2010 at 6:54am Copy Link

Thomas Wetzel It is not possible that all users use the same pst file on your home server because you can open a pst file only from one computer at the same time. Otherwise the pst file is locked.
But you can synchronize your local pst file with a pst file sitting you yoru Windows home server.

anthonyraynor? I would only have one active session.  This might be a reasonable solution to keep my .pst file safe and up to date on my home server?  I have bought your other 2 offerings, this might be the 3rd?

Tony W This syncs over my own network right? ie if my laptop is outside from home, it doesn't sync over the web right...it will only sync to my desktop once i get home?

also, are you saying that if i have outlook opened on one computer, i can't open/access outlook on the other until i shut down outlook on the other (or that it just won't sync until one is closed).

Also, can you sync two computers & and exchange server or is it one or the other? (and for exchange, is it only mail or also contacts, tasks etc).

thanks!!

thanks!

Adrian Williams In the older comments there is a reference to the software not working on a 64bit system. Is the software compatible with Windows 7 Home premium 64bit ?

Can the software be used by a PC technician who occasionally has the need to transfer outlook to a new PC ? So long as the use is single use at any time - does this conflict with your licensing policy ?

Version 5 of 'SynchPst for Outlook' supports Outlook 2010 64bit.

Additionally all Windows 7 versions are supported.

The single license of 'SynchPst for Outlook' is not good for a Technician. Please contact the sales team to get the price for the Technician.

Bill Green Can this work "automatically" over a small home network? That is, if three computers are logged onto the network, could Outlook be synchronizing the 3, as they log on and off over time?

This would be somewhat like FireFox Sync works in their browser -- bookmarks are updated across all workstations that connect and have the plug-in.

I wouldn't need but the one license, correct?
Mar 21 2011 at 4:59am Copy Link
0
Thomas Wetzel @Bill:

You can start the synchronization with the help of a batch file (Menu 'File' 'Create batch file' in combination with the 'Scheduled Tasks' of Windows whenever you want.

If you install 'SynchPst for Outlook' only on one computer then one license is enough. 'SynchPst for Outlook' is licensed per computer.

Michael Kenward I've used this software for some years. I like it.

Haven't tried the latest incarnation. It may be faster, but it was already fast enough for me. So, no incentive to upgrade. (I generally don't go for stuff that depends on an annual licence.)

Not suitable for people who want a glitzy interface rather than functionality. But people who want that would be better off buying a Mac.

I have looked at alternatives to SynchPST. Most are more expensive and complicated.

Bag User Hello,

I have been on your website and seen that the license is for two computers on the same network. What if one needs to synchronize 3 or more computers please ?

Thank you.

Thomas Wetzel @Bill:
If you synchronize from computer A with computer B and computer C then you still need one license because you install 'SynchPst for Outlook' only on one computer.
On the other computers you just share the folder of your pst files.

There is another scenario possible:
Let's say four different computers want to synchronize to one central Outlook data file. In this scenario you need four licenses because you need to install 'SynchPst for Outlook' on each computer.

Emil Kucera Trying the program now - my desktop where I installed Synch is XP, , my laptop Windows 7. I got each machine to share the Outlook folder, but the xp machine did not want to see the laptop folder. Once I connected the 'old way' to the Outlook folder on the laptop, I was able to proceed, with calendar checked, and two-way chosen.
it said 'synchronization completed successfully',
HOWEVER! the calendar entries that were different on the two machines stayed where they were and did not make it over. What did I miss? If it works, I want to buy, having invested the time already, but I have to see it working first!
Do I need to close Outlook before synchronizing?
Oct 14 2011 at 2:17pm Copy Link
0
Fletch It's highly recommended to close Outlook before synchronizing. Although I doubt that will make any real difference with the calendar issue you mentioned.

Also note that to take full advantage of this tool you'll need to be sure that your using the default Outlook setting that removes email from the server as it is retrieved. I don't - so I can't use this tool as I'd like on my 'Inbox'. But, I have an enormous amount of data filed away in various PST's and it does a great job of keeping the ones on my desktop synced with the ones on my laptop.

Rich Ackerson Related to Noggin's question: how many licenses do you require if you are not dealing with a network environment? I have a laptop and a home computer and a workstation at my office that I would like to synchronize. Do I need one license for each machine?

Also, what is the synchronization procedure in this scenario? Since the computers I want to synchronize cannot typically "see" each other, what do they synchronize against? Would I run SynchPST against the first system to create some external file and then synchronize the rest of the systems against that file? Does this synchronize to the cloud?

Thanks in advance for your reply

Thomas Wetzel @Rich:

When the both computers can't see each other then you can synchronize them with the help of a USB stick.

Synchronizing your both computers with USB is very easy:

1.) Install 'SynchPst for Outlook' on both computers.
2.) Copy one pst file to a USB drive.
3.) Synchronize the local pst file with the pst file on the USB stick.
4.) That’s it.

You need only one license in this scenario.

Fletch Outlook needs to be closed in each place it may be writing to. If you're syncing in both directions, it needs to be closed in both places.

When I sync from desktop TO laptop - one direction only, I make sure Outlook is shutdown on the laptop. Check task manager too, Outlook will sometimes disappear but not fully close. I leave Outlook running on the desktop BUT I switch it off-line so no email comes in/out while I'm syncing.

I thought I'd seen calendar entries in my sync list, but I can't be certain.

Get the trial while you've got time before the deal gets here. You might want to spend more than 24 hours playing with it.

It's improved in the past few years and I use it regularly.

Most importantly you need to know that it is assumed that your Outlook is not configured to leave email on the server. If you don't know what that means, then you don't have to care. If you do that, the tool still works great, you just have to come up with a scenario to make it work for you. Otherwise you end up with allot of duplicates. But he's got a great duplicate finder tool too :-)

David Vaughan I have several PST files with contact info that I would like to merge together into a single PST file. I need to have full control to choose which contact item to keep and which to discard. Having your program decide which is "most current" based on modification date won't work because some newer items have older or incomplete data even though their modification date is newer. Ideally, I would like the option to look at supposed duplicates one by one and decide which to keep and even copy unique data from BOTH items into the one I want to keep. Is all of this possible with SynchPST or any of your other products? Thanks!

C T Thomas, could you comment on this double citation, please. I'm in that situation, and would buy one license but not two, and here you answered to a question, "install on both computers... you need one licence only" when otherwise it's said, license is by computer. So how could we install your program on two computers, as you said here, but with only one license? I fear your answer was wrong there, and in fact, for this scenario, we need two licenses indeed. Citation is:

TopDog I am curious as to the comment by David Vaughan.

I read your web site and so I understand that "Contacts are judged to be identical if the combination of first name, last name and company name of the contact is identical."

This means if I have contact info for a John Smith on both systems but the contact information is different between the two, nothing will change on either machine during sync because the names are the same, is this correct?

Michael Kenward On the question of closing Outlook, you also have to be careful to close other software that may have it clutches on the PST files. For example, indexing software may also "open" PST files.

SynchPST will warn you if if finds that a program has hold of a PST file.

A long time user of SynchPST, I like it, despite its "home rolled" look. And over the years it has become a lot faster. You also get a quick response to questions, even though they don't always end up with a resolution.

I would buy this offer, but it does not include the annual renewal fee.

'SynchPst for Outlook' doesn't cause the duplicates.

Outlook creates the duplicates because Outlook doesn't know that a synchronized e-mail is already in its database and downloads the email again.

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping SynchPst could synchronize the "database" you mention so that Outlook would know that a synchronized email is already in its database. This is the exact feature I need. Otherwise I can just copy the pst file from machine to machine which is what I do now, but I have to logon to webmail fist to archive the mail so I don't get duplicates downloaded.

I would still have to do that with SynchPst so I can't see that it's offering me much functionality for the price.

Bruno Verschraegen Two short questions to the SynchPST team:
1) Is the programme still not able to sync when Outlook is open?
2) Is it still considering contacts to be identical if the combination of first name, last name and company name of the contact is identical?
Purchasing decision depends on answer on the above.

Michael Kenward I don't know about closing the local Outlook. I have just failed in an experiment to test this.

I opened SynchPST and asked it to look at a PST on my backup PC. SynchPST tried to close Outlook on that PC. It failed and will not synch.

Outlook isn't actually open there. And I have closed the indexing software that sometimes causes SynchPST to complain.

Maybe this partially answers your question.

In general I find SynchPST to be adequate for my limited needs to synch my laptop and my PC. It has got faster over the years – it used to be dreadfully slow. The interface still looks like something out of Windows 98 but I am not fussed about cosmetic features.

An Outlook data (pst) file can only be open when no other program accesses this pst file.

Bruno Verschraegen I know from having asked previously that the destination Outlook needs to be closed (i.e. also not being accessed by any other programme like indexing), but my question is: are there plans to improve on this characteristic in future? My backup software (ShadowProtect from StorageCraft), which runs hourly incremental backups of my harddrive, makes perfect back-ups also of my Outlook PST's also while I am working in Outlook. I know, because I have had to go back and retrieve individual mails that had gone lost accidentally. In principle this means it should be possible to build such feature, no?

Michael Friedlander You say "SynchPST for Outlook Professional is licensed per computer, and not per user." I find this verbiage confusing. If it's for a single computer then how can the files be shared with multiple computers? The only way this product makes sense is if I can install it on multiple computers, update my laptop from my desktop before I go on a trip, and then update my desktop from my laptop when I return. That's not "per computer licensing" unless you're telling me I have to buy one copy for my laptop and one copy for my desktop.

You need to install "SynchPst for Outlook" only on one computer to synchornize with two computers.
On the other computer you just need to share the folder of the pst file. Nothing else needs to be done on the other computer.

This is the reason why "SynchPst for Outlook" is licensed per computer.

Bruno Verschraegen Hello, I have an additional question to the ones I submitted in the past.
Does SynchPST for Outlook Professional synchronise multiple pst's within the same Outlook?
I have many pst files. The main one with the incoming/sent email and folders for current projects. Then, as soon as a project is finished, the project folder is moved into a pst file for the relevant year (that way we end up with an 'archive/history' pst for each calendar year, with within that folders for the different projects of that year). That way I keep the main pst relatively light (though it still is constanly between 5 and 6 GB) but can still access old project emails (which we need to do from time to time). Therefore these other pst are also always loaded as soon as my Outlook is opened.
Thing is: it happens that we still have incoming or outgoing emails after a project has been moved to an 'archive/history' pst. Will SynchPST synchronise all? Automatically? Or manually? Both approaches may have their benefits (ease vs duration)...
In fact, this pos a second question...There are two other 'main' pst files with inboxes. First one is for Hotmail through Connector. Second one is for certified email (mandatory in Italy for companies to have a special certified email account which has the same validity as a registered letter). Will those too be automatically or manually be synchronised?

Brent Burdick Bruno,

Yes you can synchronize any 2 PST files, including 2 that are used/open in Outlook.

Assuming that you have deleted the archived messages in your main PST (to keep it lean), you would most likely want to do a one-way synchronization from the main PST to the archive. You won't want to do a two-way synchronization at that point because since you deleted the messages from the main PST, it will assume you want to delete them on the other side.

The program will synchronize any 2 PST files both manually and/or automatically, but only 2 at one time. If you want to synchronize more than 2 PST files then you can setup batch files for each scenario and then either manually run them or you can setup scheduling, for example using Task Scheduler if on Windows.
