Andreas Stroebel a) It depends on your settings and if it is a one or two directions sync. It may ask if activated, skip or automatically detect/follow your instructions automatically.

b) Unicode is supported, but it doesn't show differences, just recommends to sync if defering (if preview activated, otherwise file will be synced automatically).

Mark Harper This looks to be a very comprehensive and useful piece of software and I wondered if anyone has any experience of using it. I also see on the publisher's web site that it is 'free for private purposes'. So from what I can see the only difference between the free and professional edition is commercial usage and support. The fact that support is limited to 24 months seems mean as after using for 24 months you are most likely only going to have a serious problem such as a bug rather than a usage problem.I have downloaded to try but if the publisher can offer support beyond 24 months for potential bugs etc then I'll most likely purchase.

bvssunnydale 24 months support seems generous, most of my software only provides a year, if any without a subscription. I haven't used this software but anything would be better than xcopy and the other MS variants.

smaragdus I once tested Synchredible version 4 and it was fine but version 5 has an atrocious GUI. I would like to know if buy it will I get a license for the previous version- 4, since for me the current version- 5, is useless.

Mark Harper @bvssunnydale I accept your point. In two years time there may well be a new version anyway. I like the software and it does exactly what I need so I have purchased a license. I have tried other software and they didn't have the features that Synchredible has nor did they work with the older SMB1 NAS drives that I have on my home LAN.

So, in a one-way sync (to a backup location) can Syncredible set the Read-Only bit on the destination after writing, and then remove it before writing when the next sync operation occurs? That way, even if the user accidentally opens the wrong file (the backed up version instead of the source version), their editor would prevent writing any changes to the backed up version. Instead, the user could then save the edited file to a new name in the same folder as the true source (not a good idea to replace the original true source, due to it may also have been modified since the last sync operation; nothing Syncredible can do there).

Setting the Read-Only bit on a backed up copy should be an option with a warning, that other sync tools and direct copies would fail unless the Read-Only bit is removed.

I have tried to solve this problem with workarounds, such as using a BAT file before and after a sync tool, but without knowing which files are going to be backed up (synced), a full operation of turning the Read-Only bits off on all files in the backed up location is an expensive time usage. The closest I have got is knowing that it would be better if the sync tool could handle it because it is the one part of the operation that knows what files will be "synced."

2. If the trial/free personal use edition is installed, will the purchased license key turn it into the licensed edition, or is a new install required?

Actually, I don't think that the read-only thing is something a sync software should do. It never has been asked for since the very beginning of Synchredible. The only way to handle it would be to change it manually (or by a bat file as explained by you).

Regarding license key: we don't offer license keys at all. You will get access to your customer area where you can download full version. Your settings and tasks will be kept anyway, so it's not a big deal at all.

No, there is no VSS support. Since even Microsoft recommends to close files prior to copy/backup, we decided to remove our variant of VSS support at all. It is recommended to use actions before/after synchronization to close/start applications which access files to be synchronized.

John User OK, I gave the trial a run and I liked it. I have other programs that do pretty much the same thing as far as I can tell now, but what I really liked about this program was the old "less is more" adage. It is very easy to figure out and use and for an old guy like me this a big plus. The price was right and I even opted to buy their secure eraser program at a special price too.

I am very impressed with these two programs offered here at a reasonable price. Thank you BDJ for giving me a chance to try!

I reached out to their technical support team via email, and NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. I had completely forgotten about it until I saw this posted today. I have still not received any emails from you. I just checked SPAM as well. Are you able to check your mail logs? I have, and my MX records are fully responsive, my email host is available, and there are no drops/denies in my firewall logs.

denis morrow I got this a while back as a freebie so just bought it now as it has easy flexible licence and a low low price. Too good an offer to miss as price includes tax.
The only gripe is payment method. It takes PayPal but only after form filling and requiring me to sign in. so I had to request password and username when I forgot I was even registered with them. A simple PayPal payment would have sufficed as it has my name and email address.
The point of using PayPal is so I don't have to disclose my personal details to sites that may not be 100% secure at all times. I'm still getting the odd 'ransom' and junk emails thanks to hacked sites I previously registered with. Why is my physical address even required.
But it wasn't enough to put me off really good software at this low price. Works well and fast.

Kenneth Bates @denis morrow At least you were lucky - you got there in the end! I first installed Synchredible in January 2019, I can't remember whether it was free or heavily discounted but I had two complete wipe-outs later in the year and I lost several programs, including this one.

I was prepared to pay the current BDJ price to get it back but I,too, could not remember my old password. Yesterday, I clicked on the link for "Lost Password" I was informed that an email to enable me to reset my password had been sent to my email address and I am still waiting for it. After this offer closes it will probably arrive and then it will be a question of "Thanks - but no thank you"!

denis morrow Kenneth Bates, I actually tried to buy it yesterday and could not sign in having received no email until late at night when it arrived in junk mail folder. By then I was ready for bed and left it. This morning finding offer was extended I again attempted to purchase it. It kept defaulting to Euros and logged me out twice when I tried to go back. But like you said I got there in the end.

Kenneth Bates I have been dealing on BDJ for between 15 to 20 years and know full well to look in the spam/junk folders too. Especially if I had an account with a company before, I have found replies sent to old email addresses. I spent well over an hour in a last-ditch effort to locate your password reset email yesterday evening (U.K. time). Yesterday morning my internet service was also down for over 2 hours but the email should have been there waiting for me when service was resumed.

Kenneth Bates I lost my last installation of Synchredible on my computer which stopped working two months ago and wanted to take advantage of this offer. For reasons best known to Ascomp they would not let me proceed with the purchase until I could log into my old account (about 3 years ago). I pressed the link for forgotten passwords and was advised immediately that a password reset email had been sent to me. Unfortunately, now 8 hours later, I have not received that email. Neither have I received a reply to a similar request made one hour ago. I am thankful that I never needed to seek any technical help during my use of the program before because, if I had, I could still be waiting!

MojoMan Does this support cloud storage? or cloud storage mapped as a drive?

I don't want any typical cloud storage synchronizer that uploads everything and then caches files on your local hard drive. I want all local files to always remain on my computer... in their normal directory.

Andreas Stroebel You can synchronize your cloud storage using WebDAV or FTP (if mapped as a drive in Windows Explorer).

Encryption: You can use Synchredible in combination with BitLocker or TrueCrypt. There are no encryption functions included in Synchredible directly.

Andreas Stroebel First: This is not true. As written on our product page: "The Professional Edition removes all information windows [...]". So, the promotional window of the free version is being removed in the full version.

Second: It sounds a bit like you don't like supporting the developers of a software so that the software can be further developed and technically supported. I can't really understand that.

kydara Well, at https://www.ascompsoftwar.../functions the only differences mentioned relate to commercial usage and tech support. I'm not sure what "information windows" are; perhaps you need to clarify on your product page what these are.

In any event, I do support software developers and I don't really appreciate your implication that I do not. That being said, I don't think I would ever pay $40 for a sync program, just not enough value in it, but that's just me. The $7.50 price seems about right for what the app does. Especially when the differences between the free and pro versions are fairly trivial.

Jim Hilton I don't normally give reviews but I will for this. I've been using another program i got from here ages ago and it's be very good but of my BIGGEST pet peeves with it was COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT JOB YOU ARE RUNNING anyhow...

So I grabbed the trial of this one, within 4 minutes i had it pretty much figured out and having it do a job the old program did. It did it perfectly and I didn't have to think.

Now, here's the best part. The license (along with the support is very generous) but I thought because I am so happy with the program and it's so affordable I'll just buy 2 codes even tho i can use 1 license on 2 machines. Well when I selected "2" a little prompt came up asking me if I would like to get the 5 user license so i checked that. It was a $1.75 cheaper!! so now I can install another copy on my rarely used laptop.

So kudo Synchredible! You did good!!

Paul Guy Is this offer for the "Professional" version? I downloaded the trial version from this site and it says "Standard" version. Does it become the Professional version with a registration code?

kydara Nice piece of software, I purchased it last time BDJ featured it. It is lacking one important feature that FreeFileSync has though: detecting moved files. If I move a bunch of files on the source drive, or rename the folder they're in, FFS will detect this (on drives with filesystems like NTFS that support this, at least) and move them on the destination drive. Synchredible on the other hand will just recopy all files. In cases of large files or folders, this can add a large amount of time to the sync process. Just a little caveat, otherwise it works very well at what it does. :)

Robert I would like to thank ASComp for making a great application.

I love that I can create a desktop shortcut to run a job. I click on the desktop Icon, I set it to run the application minimized, warn me of any errors, and close when the job is completed.

I have a shortcut to synch to a folder on another drive while I work on the first folder. This way I always have a backup. It can also be set to synch on folder change. Other applications can do the same but Synchredible is simple to use and it does not come with other icons for other pay applications inside the interface that we do not need to see.

It has an option to perform a task or tasks before starting a job or what to do after the task have completed.

The application has been in development for years and a lot of improvements have been added. You can go the the their web page and see the change log.

The application can be configured as set and forget, send you an email, warn you only when something could not be completed or do everything manually.

There are too many features and combinations to list them here.
