Virus Scan for TaskCanvas

Michael R. In finding-out, if a program is used, does your software check not only check, if it's window is active, but also, if the user does active work in it, e.g. like mouse-clicking or keyboard-input (and is maximum-time between two user-inputs for accepting it as continuous work definable)?

Examples:

(a) If a video-conversion is done, which lasts a longer time, there is (1) a phase, where the user does active work (splitting video, defining effects,...) and than (2) an encoding time in which the computer does the work (and not the user). So (1) should be included as user-time, but (2) should not. Even if the video-window is the active one.

(b) Reading and evaluating a complicated ebook needs not much keyboard-activity from a user, even if he is excessively working with this program. So the criterium for this should be perhaps, that this window is just active.

So, is the criterium about what is defined as user-time-consuming definable/changable also for certain programs (e.g. i) Global: Window has to be active with user-input every 60s, ii) For application 'MyEBookReader.exe': Window has to be active, no user-input required)

James Roberts @Michael R
Thanks for your questions.

(a) TaskCanvas only counts 'active' time where the user using typing or using the mouse. Once a threshold of inactivity is passed (the default is 60 seconds) it is counted as 'idle' time. This threshold is user definable.

In the case you mentioned. when a program is working (video encoding) it will be counted as user idle time (after the threshold has passed).

(b) The criteria isn't currently definable per-program - it is global. We are always looking for new ideas and features to add though and this sounds like a good idea.

thanks.

Michael R. (2) Sorry: Me again. Is just installed your trial-version 1.1 and started it. In this opened window, there seems nothing to happen. I suppose the progress should appear at once in realtime!? When clicking at the red hand I got an exception with a text in german, which says (translated): Undhandled Exception in the Application. Click Continue to ignore this error and continue the application... (I'll copy it to the very end of my posting). Seems to be exact the same problem 'G Nowhere' has. I'm using Win7, x64. Unfortunately I am testing the software with a tool, which is able to undo all changes when rebooting, so I can't reboot and check it again (and I'm not sure, if I want to install the program without this tool. @G Nowhere: Did you reboot after installation and this exception happened again?(1) Thanks for the answers. Here another idea: Sometimes it would make sense to find out how long you worked on another person's computer, e.g. a friend, who asked you to help you 'quick' or a customer. So it would be great, to be able to have this program stored on a usb-stick, so you can start it at the very beginning and stop it at the end and all the statistics would be written on the stick itself. So it would be possible afterwards to find out, how 'quick' this help really was ;-) (or you can show it to the customer to explain what you have done...)Perhaps this is already possible to do!? Sorry you are having issues. The calendar will only show the current day if you have just installed it. The range of days increases as time goes by and data is recorded, but you can't go back to before it was installed.
What button or control did you click to trigger the crash, or did it pop up at the start?
Thanks

G Nowhere The drop down calendar only shows the day that i installed it the 4th. it is now the 5th. no data is being saved at all.

When i click the stop icon i get that error.

James Roberts Michael R, G Nowhere:
Can you create a support ticket here
http://www.digitalvolcano.co.uk/support/
and we'll see if we can get an updated working build for you. BTW, what language settings is your system localized to? Thanks!

Michael R. My system-language is German

Ok, I created a support ticket. Unfortunately there is not so much time left, at least, if this deal is not extended by one day. I'll check the comments out: Perhaps there is some solution to this problem found until than.

Please let me know, if you intend to implement my 2nd idea (and if an update with this feature is free). I think it is not so hard to implement this: Probably the output-directory is already configurable. It just have to be sure, that nothing will be stored on the connected computer. I think this feature is crucial for me buying this tool. (I already have a tool which can do this on my own computer, even if I am not (yet) using it excessively.)

Michael R. So, no more additional day. Probably quite difficult to fix a problem, which only occurs on some specific PCs. Win7, x64 seems not to be the reason...

I suppose I'll give it a try next time. Perhaps with a portable version too!?

Glen Hilton After a couple of days one can adjust the standard filter view up to a 24hrs. Is it possible to filter/view per week or per month after 2+ months of TaskCanvas data gathering or is the 10 min - 24hr filter the only option ? Thanks.

James Roberts Currently the 10 min - 1 day filters are the only ones built-in. It is possible to go to a date and zoom right out using right-click or mousewheel zoom though. We welcome any requests for new views/filters in future updates that would make your life easier!

Gary User does it show the time that particular files that were opened? For example, if I open a word file for client 1 and an excel file for client 2, will the report show the time each file was opened or just the time word and excel were opened (assume I set the idle time to 12 hours so it tracks all time whether or not the program is active)

Amit Looks like a very good program.

1. But would be great if it can also report and track which websites I visited in my browser. Alongwith showing some info about like - show the time at which I visited that site + title of the site. Can this feature be implemented in this nice software?

2. Also, can we see the distributed-percentagewise-usage AS WELL AS the total usage of all applications used in last week, last month, last 3months, last year etc. Or as Glen Hilton above said that usage is not viewable of last week, month and more ? Please clarify this.

Thanks.
