What are people saying about TK8 Safe Professional + Lifetime Upgrades

Keith Anderson In the Auto-Type mode does it protect against keylogger capture?
Also, if a keylogger app has clipboard monitoring included will it prevent logging of clipboard content?

Hate to have AES-256 encryption and then lose everything to a keylogger.

Thanks
Dec 8 2008 at 12:06pm Copy Link

Tonis Kask As Auto-Type is a function that is emulating key presses on your keyboard, it can be recorded by keyloggers if they are installed. However, TK8 Safe has protection system to detect most popular phishing and sniffing activities in the system. In case suspicious malware is detected, the program is not started.

Actually I do not know any software out there that is actually protected from keyloggers or other sniffers in general. They can be protected against some particular one, but not in general. There is always some technical possibilities to catch form field values, no matter if they are copied, typed, or submitted through integrated browser add-ons. Many respected companies in the field will at least mention this in their footprint when they claim their program is protected for "most" sniffers.

So the only way to be fully protected is to use a decent spyware removal software, and not use any Auto-Typing or form submitting features in other systems you might use while travelling.

Feb 15 2013 at 10:00pm Copy Link

Tonis Kask I don't know KeePass very well. You should do your own comparison depending what are the advanced features you need. What I know is that indeed TK8 Safe has some advanced features not present in any other password management application.

Danny @Tonis Kask,

Thank you for your quick reply!

What would ' TK8 ' say or where that refers to?
Feb 16 2013 at 12:31am Copy Link
0
Tonis Kask It refers to the founders name, which is "Tonis Kask VIII" (8'th). I'm eighth in the row, based on the old tradition to name sons after their fathers (at least it is an old tradition in some EU countries, especially in Scandinavia).

Roger Rabbit Hi,
I'm a registered user of an earlier version and highly recommend this software. My upgrade protection has expired, so is it possible just to buy the upgrade protection as I already bought the software? There has only been 1 update since my protection expired.
Thanks for your help.

Derek User Is it possible to migrate data from other password managers into TK8 ?. I have been using another password manager for many years and have 1000's of entries in it.

Without the means to import data from my old password manager I would be faced with weeks of re-entering all the data.

No password manager I have looked at recently offers such a migration ability, something that email client developers had to take into account if they wanted people to adopt or change to an alternative.

I guess because of the encryption issues data transfer is not possible am I correct ?

I'm not a software developer, But IMHO a reasonable password manager should be able

- to export his records to a common format like CSV
- to import common formats.

Derek User Further to my last comment about importing data from other password managers I have installed the trial of TK8 and tried to import a Tab delimited text file into it that was exported from my current password manager.

According to the help file in TK8
"Now, to start importing, open the File menu and select Import. After you select which file to import, import details window appears. There you can see the columns and information found in the file.

Next you have to set destination fields for the columns you want to import. To do this, please click on each column header and select the field where you want to save that information."

Unfortunately no import details window appeared once the file was selected so it was not possible to set destination fields and the import failed.

Is this an issue with just the trial version ?

Tonis Kask Currently we are re-writing the program from scratch to support mobile edition (and Mac OSX). If everything will go as planned, Windows and Mac editions are released this year, and mobile editions in 2014.

Tonis Kask TK8 Safe (including the trial edition) can both import entries and export them. After you select the tab delimited file, another dialog with your data will appear. If it does not, it could be a format issue. Please try to open the file in MS Excel, for example and see if you can open it there. When you re-save the file using Excel, I'm sure you can import your data.

Derek User Tonis, Re importing data issue, Before I wrote last, I had already opened the file to be imported using Excel to check the data was present before trying to import it into TK8. My old password manager exported the file as a CSV so I had to use Excel to convert it to a Tab delimited txt file which is all TK8 will accept.

The problem is that no dialogue box appears when the file is imported as stated in the help file. This means it is not possible to select which fields should be imported to match those in TK8. The file I am importing is very large 900 rows of data.

I am a very experienced computer and software user so I think there is a problem with the import in TK8. Should we take this discussion to a support ticket to resolve ?

Stephen Kreyling Are there any backdoors to the software?
Feb 18 2013 at 4:26am Copy Link

LU Hello and greetings.

I have used your products in the past and have enjoyed them. As I am looking over TK8 Safe, I was hoping to see a way for it to attach itself to the browsers window like Roboform does. That makes it so convenient for password use. I could not find a way to do this. So I am wondering, am I missing something or is that function not available? If it isn't available, do you have any plans in the future for that function?

As I am trying to get away from Roboform, it is very difficult because it is so convenient. I see TK8 Safe can import data that has been exported, but do you have plans to all importing directly from software such as Roboform? I ask, because Roboform will not export the full URL anymore to external files. Many believe Roboform was designed like this in later versions to stop individuals from migrating away from there software when they have such a large database.
Feb 18 2013 at 4:45am Copy Link

Tonis Kask Hi Stephen. There are no backdoors. When you lose the master password you're without your data, unfortunately.
TK8 Software - Feb 18 2013 at 5:22am Copy Link

Tonis Kask Direct import from Roboform is unfortunately impossible. We do have plans for automatic "password grabbing" from web pages, but as we have started with mobile editions and OSX version, we want to release them before we expand the feature set.

Tonis Kask Do you usually believe comparison tables where competitors are (at least a bit) bashed? ;) I'm sure we could come up with a table where TK8 Safe would be the absolute best choice for everyone. And it could actually "work" in terms of sales. Reality is that every software is a bit different, and has different features for different needs. That's why we have a trial edition so you could try out the software and see if it fits the needs. And with specific questions, an email is always welcome.

D This offer is for Free Lifetime Upgrades, but on the website it specifically says Lifetime License Key (copy will never expire), but you do get "All upgrades released within 3 years". Also, this offer is for 50% off the regular price of $39.90, but the website has the Pro version as costing $29.95. Is the price on BitsDuJour $10 more due to the inclusion of the Lifetime Upgrade protection?

Just want to make sure this offer on BitsDuJour is in fact for lifetime upgrades, rather than the "Lifetime License Key" that doesn't expire, and only offers 3 years worth of upgrades?

Thanks!

Constantin Florea @D - The $39.90 regular price is for the lifetime upgrades version and it includes $29.95 (the price for the Pro version) + $9.95 (which is a one time-fee which allows you to upgrade to any version released in the future, even after your free 3-year upgrade protection period is expired). You can get this today for only $19.95.

May 7 2014 at 12:26pm Copy Link
1
Tonis Kask Hi Mario! Indeed the last version has been stable and had no need for fixes. Nor is it lacking major features. However, mobile editions are a must and we are working in this direction. Actually, for over a year we have been working on the new version. It's built from ground up, in order to support mobile operating systems (and some exiting features) in the future. This new version is already in beta and once released we will start with mobile editions.
TK8 Software - May 7 2014 at 12:43pm Copy Link

Jason Howard Will mobile support be included as part of the product and lifetime licenses. Support for both iPhone and Android platforms is essential as the "other half" of access to stored passwords.

Without access to the passwords on mobile platorms this solution lacks functionality and the requirement to use two separate tools (one for computer and one for mobile) to store passwords a necessity.

So will purchases of TK8 get full support and access to a mobile license - or would this require a second purchase / upgrade?
May 8 2014 at 12:53am Copy Link
1
Tonis Kask Hi Jason! Mobile apps will be separate products, available in the stores. However, our current plan is that if you only want to read your data then you can do that by using the free edition of the app. But for full management capabilities (like adding new records), you would need to buy the app.

Justin Cram how well it compare to lastpass, which I've purchased a 10 Years licence for already anyways! reason for this is for the savings and convenience of not having to chase down who I owe and for what.

basically I've purchased every single type of these programs most of them evolved to yearly fees etc, hate that. grandfathered in to Roboform and they figured out a way to get out of those who paid for a lifetime licence to!

lastpass is epically

the most epic of them all though, with all the options for auto filing apps in your actual phone etc, and so much more they've come so far from the original release!

I can't say I'd be interested in yet just another password cluttering app on desktop or phone that will not compare to outs competition!

you all ask in the beginning for so little then later drop the ball on us and change the original arrangements!

Tonis Kask Hi Justin! Well, if you want to compare pricing then indeed most applications have switched to the recurring billing. I can assure that we have no plans for that kind of pricing model. As some might know, TK8 Safe is one of the "oldest" password management applications on the market and celebrated its 14th birthday this year. I hope that itself shows our strategies are stable and we want to keep it that way.

Please answer both.

Tonis Kask Hi Amit!

TK8 Safe can't fill in forms. It can fill in usernames and passwords only. We have no plans to make form filling functionality.

When the entry is active, you can add it to your favorites. For this, use Favorites menu. From that same menu, you can also see all your favorite entries. To get back to the "main view", use the View menu.

Tonis.

VLM Importing RoboForm data is not just a matter of importing the individual login etc. information. Users typically organize their data into a folder hierarchy. Can your software import that hierarchy? If not, then honestly, the cost of migrating would seem rather high, at least to me.
Jan 25 2015 at 1:37pm Copy Link
0
Tonis Kask Hi VLM

You can retain the hierarchy if you export each folder separately in Roboform and then import your data to separate folders in TK8 Safe.

Regards,
Tonis.

VLM Tonis Kask - There is an old business adage, "Shop your competition." It's clear that you have not done this. In saying this, I mean that it's clear that you have never looked at RoboForm, even though many of your potential customers are RoboForm users.

RoboForm exports in html format, not text. And many RoboForm users set up a full-blown folder hierarchy, such that exporting by folder would take hours, perhaps days, and be very prone to error.

Also, RoboForm is not set up to export one folder at a time, though I suppose one could copy/paste to create that result.

In short, I see no viable migration path from RoboForm to your product. So I will pass on this fine offer. I thank you for taking time to respond to my inquiry.
