Michael R. Is the original video-file being converted to another format (which would make it (a) quality loss (b) time-consuming-converting)?

Is there a way back (exe -> original-video-file)?

I would like pdf-files could be converted too...
Jul 7 2017 at 7:26am Copy Link
0
Alex Ferri No, there is no quality loss. The quality remains exactly the same and the process is fast. It is not time consuming at all and you can batch convert if you have a large collection of videos. The conversion process is fast.

There is no way back from exe to original video and pdf files can not be converted using this tool however you make interesting points which I have added to the to do list for future versions.

Best,
Alex
Koen Andries I converted an .AVI and an .MP4 file to the .EXE format using the free trial version of the program.
The conversion itself was lightning fast !
But when I executed the .EXE files, twice I was told I needed to install more codecs.

Running the .AVI and .MP4 files with my video player gave no problem.

Do I indeed need to install more codecs for the .EXE's to run ?
Jul 8 2017 at 8:50am Copy Link

Alex Ferri No, you don't have to install codecs. I would have to take a more in depth look at what is happening in your case. If you would like me to follow up on this drop me an e-mail at support[at]pcwinsoft[dot]com

Best,
Alex
Ghoch User Just bought and registered. Tried it twice. The executable appeared fast. When I tried to run it Kaspersky Security immediately deleted the file: Twice!

"08.07.2017 23.59.40 Malicious program deleted PDM:Trojan.Win32.Badex.aa Application name: E:\! Pictures\Camera Roll\Videos\Executables\WP_20170629_004.mp4.exe Application path: e:\! pictures\camera roll\videos\executables\wp_20170629_004.mp4.exe Time: 7/8/2017 11:59 PM"

I was looking forward to this. What gives?
Jul 8 2017 at 11:07pm Copy Link

Koen Andries I scanned my EXE file with the VirusTotal service, and 16 out of the 63 programs labeled the file as malware, which is considerably high.

I did this because of the comment by Ghoch User, and because Norton Internet Security also deleted my first EXE file. I then considered it to be a false positive, but now I doubt it.

Ring Zero I had the same issue with the Kaspersky warning. Since others that you may send your converted files to may have the same warning from their AV software, regardless of whether it is a false positive, I would avoid this program until the cause for the trigger is resolved. The fact that there has been no response from the developer is concerning as well.
Jul 9 2017 at 3:52am Copy Link

Alex Ferri They are all false positives. I don't like the way VirusTotal and the anti-viruses software show so many flags for clean packages. What they are doing is looking at compressed parts of your video and thinking that is a virus and this is a virus. I bet they will show the same virus results for the video file itself. I have to constantly fight against VirusTotal because what was once clean has virus flags on the next day. What I can guarantee is that the exe files are clean but do test VirusTotal against the video files themselves, you will probably get the same result as the Exe.

Best,
Alex
Koen Andries Dear Alex,
as you suggested, I ran VirusTotal on my original MP4 file, and to my astonishment, none out of the 56 programs labeled the video file as malware.
I wanted to share this information with you.

Alex Ferri I tested over here too. It's EXE related. Here is a briefing of what the software does: The software compresses the video to a format it can be replayed anywhere and then it uses a .Net framework technique to package the video content along with self-executing code to generate a stand-alone executable file. There is no possibility for a virus or malware to intercept this process, so I am 100% confident that the VirusTotal flags are all false positives.

Nevertheless I am not happy with this issue you have reported. So, I will dig deeper into this and if i achieve progress I will let you know.

Best,
Alex
Ring Zero Alex,

Thanks for the response. I purchased the program and I use it regardless of the false positive in Kaspersky. My main concern was that if I were to share my video with others and they receive the same alert it may make them think I am inadvertently infecting them with some kind of malware. It would be great if you could fix this, if possible.

Alex Ferri I am on it as of right now. I will let you know of any progress I achieve. Thanks for communicating this to me.

Best,
Alex
Ghoch User Since my version of Kaspersky automatically deletes the executable when I try to run it then I will never be able to see it. Won't be able to send it to others. Hope you find a cure soon.

Chris I found that you must change the name of the exe file. Just delete the .mp4 or other video extension as the virus programs see it as an exe hiding behind a .mp4 file thus unsafe.

Stephen Brown I would really like to use this program. I lost two close relatives, my brother's wife, and my father recently. This has prompted me to transfer family cine film stretching back to the early 1960's to digital via the scanning process. I would then like to pass all these to my 2 siblings and all my cousins and surviving aunts and uncles. Unfortunately, after finally sorting out the registration process, the program still won't register using the registration code I was given. I access the control panel of my account, copied the registration code for Video to Exe but received an invalid response. See the images (via the links I've posted below) I've uploaded that show I'm using the correct registration codes (I've scrubbed out the center of the reg code but left the beginning and ends), yet the program still won't register:

Alex Ferri Regarding the virus flags raised on the generated EXE files I can assure you they are all false positives. The software converts the video to a universal format and then encapsulates it inside an EXE shell. Anti-virus software matches video segments inside the EXE with their virus patterns. Basically the video segments look like virus patterns to the anti-virus software. I tried to contact several anti-virus companies but they said that is just the way the software works looking for patterns inside the EXEs and video segments look like virus.

Alex Ferri Answer to Stephen Brown: You are copying the ORDER-ID from your control panel as if it were the KEY. It isn't. You must use the 'Send KEY to my e-mail' option you find on your control panel next to the ORDER-ID.
Stephen Brown Just realized I was using the order ID instead of the registration code. The opiates I take tend to dull my brain. I've had this issue with PCWinsoft programs before, but had forgotten. The program is now registered. Thank you PCWinSoft and Tom for his suggestion. sorry for the mistake above. :)

After a few minutes of closing that window it installs. Upon starting the program it gives the same error.

Loyal Customer @ Stephen Brown ...
This is not the right product for what you are trying to do.
There are lots of tools (hardware and software) to do the film-to-digital transfer.and conversion.
Some of the tools are quite cheap on web sites like eBay.
You can do a simple Google search for "how do I transfer and convert my analog videos to digital", and then start reading at some of the search results.
Good luck.

Alex Ferri Hello,

The product comes with 1 year of free upgrades.

For those of you having trouble registering the product:

1. Register at the giveaway page, you will receive a confirmation and a congratulations message.

2. After registered you are included on the customer database just like if you had bought it. All you need to do now is request a KEY.

You can request keys from inside the program like in this video demonstration:
http://www.pcwinsoft.com/...gister.asp

Step-by-Step
----------------------------------------
Trial dialog > Click ‘Register’ > Mark ‘Send key to my e-mail’ > Click ‘Next’ > Then enter the e-mail address you used to register > Then click ‘Send’.

The key is sent to your e-mail address.

After you receive the key you go:

Trial dialog > Click ‘Register’ > Mark ‘Enter key’ > Click ‘Next’ > Then enter the key you have received on your e-mail > Then click ‘Authenticate’.
----------------------------------------

Or you can log into the control panel here:
http://www.pcwinsoft.com/.../index.asp

If you receive the message KEY sent then the e-mail with the KEY was sent so if you didn't see it check your spam and junk folder and you will find it.

If when you request a KEY from inside the program the program hangs then it is not being able to access the Internet.

E-mail with KEY is sent right away so if you are waiting for more than 5 minutes something is wrong. Check your spam and junk folder. If you don't find add pcwinsoft.com as safe for your e-mail reader and request a new KEY.

If nothing else works enter your control panel and send ORDER-ID and HARDWARE-FINGERPRINT to registrationsupport[at]pcwinsoft[dot]com and I will reply with the KEY. Note that you must include ORDER-ID and HARDWARE-FINGERPRINT otherwise I can't generate a KEY.

Regards,
Alessandro Ferri

Julian Hadlow Just attempted to get my registration key via entering my details on the website, rather than from inside the program. I chose this method, because I want to install on another computer.

Why oh why do we need a hardware footprint?? Ridiculous! Far too heavy -handed. This isn't mission critical NASA software!

Effectively, someone has to enter the details from the computer the program is going to be installed on. Had I known that beforehand I'd have used the other one instead, but there is no indication ahead of time that this requirement needs to be fulfilled.

So many hoops to go through that I can't see anyone wanting to do this again...

In the end I got an error message saying that my order number couldn't be found!

So I still don't have a registration number!

Alex Ferri The software registration system is HARDWARE-FINGERPRINT based. The registration system is designed this way for your own good. You can request KEYs for the program to up to 10 different PCs and also after reformatting. The process may seem complicated but if you follow the instructions you will see it is quite simple.

William W. Geertsema Windows 7 Pro 32-bit.
I installed this program (same version as today's offer) on July 8, 2017.
After I wrestled with it for several days, and after viorus reports, I noted the following comment:

================================
Hitman Pro quarantined the exe file.

My conclusion is that the program is very dangerous.
It probably inserted Land.pckeeper into my Internet Explorer 11, and may also have wreaked havoc with e.g. Classic Explorer, and kept substituting another search engine in the place of Google.

It took me several days of cleaning, and resetting Internet Explorer, to get rid of it.

CONCLUSION: DO NOT RUN IT AGAIN !!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't like two things about the present offer:
1) The setup exe is identical (same MD5 count) .
2) The key can only be obtained after installing the program (including the malware aspects!).

My conclusion: Judge for yourself, but realize what you are doing.

But after I use the WinSoft program, the converted .MOV (after appearing as an .EXE where I wanted it--on the desktop), vanishes before I can execute it. It exists only for about 5 seconds, then just disappears. It's as if it self-destructs. It's weird!

Alex Ferri Your anti-virus is deleting the file. This is common. Sometimes anti-virus will flag the secured video in the form of application. The fact is anti-virus confuses encoded video segments with virus patterns. Rest assured however the secured video executables are clean. It is an anti-virus thing.
Alex Ferri Add the converted file to your anti-virus trusted list before executing it.
Frank D Alex,
1. My anti-virus (Avast!) just has one option: to turn OFF scanning of ALL files, ALL the time, or NONE, at NO time. (If I disable file scanning, it's either ON or OFF, no other options.) If file scanning is OFF, the movie .exe file, once created, is fine and will play, but as soon as I turn ON file scanning again, the file disappears before I can play it.
2. The movie plays upside down! And there are no options to rotate it in Windows Media Player.

Do you have any suggestions?

Alex Ferri When a file is removed by the anti-virus it goes into quarantinee I believe you can set its status as trustable there maybe
Frank D Alex,

Now I'm getting an error message from the WinSoft program that says: "There was an error while converting the file" and the program refuses to work anymore.

I'm afraid that this is the death blow to the program. I can't get it to work at all now.

Alex Ferri is not the media file opened by another program?
R W For those with codec problems, a history:-

July 8 2017 = No codecs are required.
June 25 2019 = Two users with codec problems / No replies.
June 14 2020 = A user with codec problems / No reply.
Today = You need codecs.

OLIN I didn't get an answer on how to start the registered program which always disappears after a while after the log - neither here nor on its support, so I'm uninstalling it and deleting everything! I definitely can't recommend the program to anyone, there are just all sorts of problems, with registration and with use - it doesn't appear at all except for the startup log!

Frank D I can open the original media file (a 2+MB .MOV file), and run it normally in Windows Media Player, but after I convert it to an .EXE file and run it, it shows up upside-down in a bare-bones proprietary window, and there's no way to rotate it to right-side-up. I tried to run it in VLC media player, which allows rotating images, but the .EXE file won't open in it.

Alex Ferri The file is clean. Anti-virus software find viruses where there are none. I cant do nothing about that.
Thomas Mueller It's allways the same thing with PCWINSOFT: You don't receive any key, regardless which mail address you use. It's a waste of time. Therefore I only use the preactivated giveaways.
I don't want to waste my time any more.
BTW: If the workflows of a company are so unreliable, why should I ever try to buy something from them. I don't want to run the risk of not getting a reward for my efforts and lose money.

Alex Ferri We are changing the registration system. We send the keys through sendgrid service. it does not reach microsoft accounts. if you inform me the user name you used i can fetch the key and publish it here.
Alex Ferri The current registration system is the first version we created. We are working on uncomplicating things. However sendgrid service does not reach microsoft accounts. we cant work around it.
Alex Ferri maybe in the future. it requires an expensive plan we are not in agrreance with. we are looking for another service.
