Alexander Avdonin Support for Windows 7 will be added in the next release. The current version (2.0.8) runs on Windows 7, but you need to disable some hotkeys and features that conflict with the new shell.

Frank Stephens This is one of my favorite utilities. There are alternatives, free and commercial, but NTWind always has high-quality code which doesn't mess up your system, tons of options, and notification of hotkey conflicts. I have dual high-resolution monitors, and WindowSpace makes it very easy to manage the windows.

Frank Stephens I would just like to reiterate my previous comments on WindowSpace and everything from NTWind.  They make utilities which solve basic problems with very solid code, which is exceptionally rare these days.  The options are great, I recommend downloading and trying, nothing from NTWind will mess up your system, you can just end the utility to return to standard Windows behavior.  It's important to read the Help for WindowSpace to understand how it works and its quite numerous features.  I think that it's unfortunate that this exceptionally handy utility will be available on a Saturday, as I think that fewer people check BDJ on the weekend.

Neo Anderson I was really hoping this product provided functionality similar to Mac OS X's Expos é .  Alas, this does not seem be the case.  Is it really so hard to do this in Windows (XP)?  I've tried a bunch of different products and none seem able to do it well.

Frank Stephens Neo Anderson, setting aside the fact that XP is seriously obsolete and lacks many of the features in Vista and especially Windows 7, you might take a look at NTWind's http://www.ntwind.com/sof...tcher.html , which is free and will run on XP (obviously without some of the visual effects which Vista and higher support).

Mark J @Neo - I doubt there are versions of a Mac OS created in 2001 that Expose will work on. Since that is when Windows XP was created, perhaps you're expecting too much modern development on an OS that is being aged out.
There are several utilities for Windows 7 that do the same thing as Expose does for Macs, and some have many more features. Perhaps you need to upgrade your OS?

Software Guy This utility optimizes windows for productivity. If you do research, contracts or work with text documents extensively, this utility with a good clip editor and your word processor will save many hours. As an example, a large company was spending 22 to 48 hours tailoring contracts for award. Using this software, dual monitors, a word processor and a clip editor - the proposal, the contract template and critical clips could be opened in a logical way and a contract draft could be generated based upon a single pass through the proposal. This cut the time to less than 4 hours to generate a draft contract. As they generated over 1000 contracts a year, this represented some serious time savings to the company.
WindowsSpace is similarly useful for research, and for writing. And I am sure there are many other applications for this nice utility. You must decide if this fits your work style, but if it does, get it. And consider dual monitors for a desktop if you don't already have them, and reconsider that widescreen laptop to optimize your efficiency. If you can benefit from the added control of application windows, meaning if you regularly use 2 or more applications simultaneously, then this utility is a great deal.

T User Mini review:
I tested a lot of Window Management programs and this one was the best. Low resources, very stable, powerful and easy to use. I paid $24.95 for it a couple years ago and it's been updated a number of times.

I'm writing this review here simply because I really like this program and I want it to do well so that it continues to be updated. If you want a great Windows Management program which allows for basic things not included in windows then this is it and it's a good price! I believe there is a trial too so try it out...

Bertie Brummel @ vendor:

I installed the trial on a Win 7 Ultimate x64 PC, re-booted and was surprised to see that the 'Windows Space' entry did not show up in the context menue when right-clicking the title bar of several (for me) important programs like The Bat! 5.3.4, Nero Burning Rom 11, MP3Tag, Soda PDF, Opera browser.

It works in other software, f.e. Total Commander or Simidude.
Makes me think it's a problem of Windows Space, not the installation. Have I overlooked someting?

Make sure that it is installed into the %ProgramFiles% directory (C:\Program Files\WindowSpace). It could be an UAC issue... Also try to restart your computer. WindowSpace must work well with 32-bit apps on 64-bit OS.

Frank Stephens Bertie Brummel, RCG, some programs don't display a normal menu. The hotkeys and operations on the standard minimize, etc., buttons should work. Yes, WindowSpace is under active development. What more features would you have added? Just contact the developer, I've always found him to be highly responsive. People get bent out of shape when there's no response during the BDJ offer period, but particularly for individual developers, there can be any number of valid reasons why they're not able to participate during the promotion.

Frank Stephens Bruce Daniel, WindowSpace should work in Win8's legacy desktop. Microsoft has gone out of their way to make the "new" interface be as useless as possible, part of their strategy of building to the lowest common denominator in an attempt to get people to use their mobile products. All that they're doing is killing their desktop products, no one who's using iOS or Android is going to switch.

Alexander Avdonin @Christopher Parent,

Snap windows to each other is implemented much better in WindowSpace than in any other software on the market (it supports UAC elevated windows, 64-bit and 32-bit processes, child windows, etc). WinSplit is mainly intended for placing windows into specified position using hotkeys.

Frank Stephens Christopher Parent, sorry that this comment will probably be too late to be useful to you. I tried Winsplit Revolution a long time ago, didn't like it compared to WindowSpace, but haven't looked at it in some time. BDJ lets you download trial software, which is the easiest way to check functionality. NTWind products are very small and efficient, run only when you want them to, don't muck up your system at all, and are easily uninstalled. Naturally, Winsplit Revolution and WindowSpace should not be run at the same time. Don't know if Winsplit Revolution needs to uninstalled, WindowSpace only hooks into window management and keyboard when it's running.

M_R When screen-recording a window, it's dangerous to open another application, because this might open it's window at a position where it convers the window, which is about to be recorded.

Is there a way to avoid this with WindowSpace, e.g. by defining a region on the sceen as not usable for new windows?

L Christopher Mini-Review: I bought this software at full price many years ago and have been using it ever since. It is an excellent piece of software which adds a lot to the standard Windows split screen mode. I use it all pretty much all day when I move windows around.

Overtkill @Alexander Avdonin

Full Window and sub-window arrangement and sizing said windows to a specific placement might be something you'll want to add to this program. This can be done by monitoring for the processes which the user wants to place, and/or have the program check for the window title name as well. Autosizer is such an app, and its freeware.

Changelog: http://www.ntwind.com/sof...story.html
vs.
Download: http://www.ntwind.com/sof...nload.html

Per the product changelog, the last version is 2.6.0, released August 25, 2015. The Changelog 1st entry for 2.6.0 states:
Added full support for Windows 10 (32-bit and 64-bit)

The supported Platforms listed on Bitsdujour do not include Windows 10. Also, the product download page does not list Windows 10 either.

Therefore, I have to ask: What should be expected when using the product on Windows 10?

Gary Smith @Alexander Avdonin,
A previous comment from the developer to resolve a user's problem was that the program had to be installed into the %ProgramFiles% directory (typically on the C: drive, and the same as the Operating System itself). The user commented wondering why the program allows installation to other than the %ProgramFiles% directory if it does not work there. There was no response from the developer pertaining to this issue after that comment.

For users of SSD drives, they like to be able to install to a different drive and directory but still have the program work. Looking through the Changelog, I do not see any reference that issue has been resolved. Has this problem been fixed?
Apr 4 2017 at 9:24am Copy Link

Alexander Avdonin @Gary Smith
There is a security policy which may resolve this issue:
https://technet.microsoft...s.11).aspx

This behavior depends on the version of your operating system and security policies. WindowSpace doesn't check these policies because it's technically too complicated (separate launcher app would be needed and a lot more).
