Today there is an offer for the "non-lite" version of this software, referenced as the Professional version. This brings up some questions.

In the previous comments for the "non-lite" version (http://www.bitsdujour.com...jour-today), on January 24, 2013, there was some discussion over the name of the product offered that day being a Standard version or a Pro version, and referencing places that "Professional" or "Pro" was used as part of the name (or not), including the Fresh website. Fresh Software clarified by stating: "X-NetStat 5.6 is considered the Pro version, even though "Pro" is no longer in the name. It's a re-branding thing."

Understandable, but today's offer includes an option to purchase the Professional version at 50% off is contradictory.

Likewise, today, November 20, 2016, the Fresh website does not identify X-Netstat using Pro or Professional as part of the name, except for the pages where there is a vertical menu on the left, which references X-Netstat Pro.

What parts are incorrect or has there been another rebranding?

Also on January 24, 2014, the discussion came up about the product version, and the possibility of a version 6. At that point, Fresh Software stated "If version 6.0 is released down the line, anyone participating in today's promotion can email me directly with their order number and I will waive any 5.x to 6.x upgrade fee."

I assume that would mean the user would also be allowed to upgrade to any of the 6.xx releases (up to verion 6.99). I think that would be an incentive to encourage purchasers of the 5.62 "non-lite" version today, however a clarification would be very helpful.

Andrew Niese Hi Robert, you're right I see the text "X-Netstat Professional V5.x License v5.62 at a 50% discount", you could just imagine that without "Professional" in it. I might have used that term in an email to BitsDuJour setting up the promotion. There has been no additional rebranding, X-NetStat Lite is the "lite" version and X-NetStat is the full version. If you see a reference to X-NetStat Professional somewhere, that also means the full version.

Version 6 is not in development yet and X-NetStat will stay on the 5.x branch for a while. The upgrade 6.x offer from the 1/24/14 promotion was a one-time thing because I selected the wrong box on the license details, and I wanted to honor it. If there is a version 6 later, the upgrade fee will be discounted for ALL licensed 5.x users, costing less than a new license. Hope that helps clear things up.

Gonzo First of all, thanks for this free lite version.
I went to your website looking for further information, but got some questions instead:

1-Is there a comparison chart for the lite vs pro versions? I couldn't find any mention of the lite version at all in your website; as if it didn't exist, or was only created for this promotion.

2-The main x-netstat page mentions:
Purchase Options
Get Licensed for life with unlimited support and upgrades
And when you click on it, it says "Free upgrades for version 5"
However based on the answer above, as well as on the About > Licensing page in your website, it seems like there's no lifetime upgrades option, and that the text should be instead "Free updates for version 5".

Andrew Niese Hi Gonzo, thanks for your interest. There isn't a comparison chart available, but you can download X-NetStat as a 30 day trial though, and see what else it offers. X-NetStat Lite does not have an official webpage yet.

I see what you're saying, that could cause some confusion. I will try to update the text. The policy at least for now and through this promotion is free upgrades through 5.99. 5.0 came out in 2004 so I have seen the 5.x series as one product. There is no plan for version 6 as of yet. Do you think the lifetime upgrades is a better option?

Well, I always prefer to get lifetime upgrades if that's an option (either when buying, or as a separate "license" package).
My comment though was mainly regarding updates vs upgrades, as the first usually means minor versions, while the latter usually refers to major versions. Just trying to avoid future confusion among customers.

Andrew Niese Hello @h User, sorry that you are having trouble. The monitoring service we use says freshsoftware.com has not been down since April, so it is likely that the problem is on your end, or with your ISP. Can you try from another computer or device?

Garden User Your registration key is invalid. Remember everything is case-sensitive, so it is...... etc. I copied/pasted everything. No extra spaces either. Tried both setups. Don't worry about fixing it, I'm done. Giving up. Uninstalled.

I'm sorry for your troubles ,but so far as I can tell, it has nothing to do
with BDJ nor Fresh Software.
For me it was one of the fastest transactions ever.

For you it could be ISP or AV program or Linkscanner etc - browser settings etc, who knows..

I have found "several-repeated instances on Bitsdujour lately where these free offer are nothing more than a Complexity of problems as far as installastion, and not working properly. Richard User I got X-NetStat Lite on a BDJ promotion in 2016. People who are looking at this promotion today might miss that the Lite version being offered today (December 13, 2018) is the SAME version from 2 years ago. This is not a complaint. I'm just pointing out that if you already have the Lite version, no need to get it again (unlike some other BDJ promotions where newer versions of free software are offered from time to time).

If you look in the older comments, in 2016 a user named Gonzo suggested that a comparison chart between the Lite and regular editions would be useful. The developer suggested that the user simply download the full trial version to discover the differences. Sorry, but that's not going to happen in most cases. Only the most motivated users are going to invest that time. I checked the website today and there still is no comparison chart that I could find. I think the developer would generate more paid sales by making it easy for prospective customers to see the added value of the regular product. He is running this nice 60% discount promotion but not getting the full advantage from it.

Andrew Niese @Richard User you may be right. There is an older feature list of X-NetStat (full version) available here: http://freshsoftware.com/...erview.php , but it is outdated (approx version 5.6) and doesn't have the newer features like Windows Firewall integration. Some of the newer features added can be seen in the blog posts here (https://freshsoftware.com/xns/pro/) and then here (https://freshsoftware.com...y/xnetstat).

The Lite version is going to be limited to core features of displaying connections, display open ports, kill TCP connections, and DNS Cache.
