What are people saying about X-Setup Pro

Jim Lemonde Too bad the author didn't go for the 50% discount most proggies have here - I would have bought it without a second thought. Since it's something I don't really need, I'll wait for next time.

Eric Windmeier We think 31% is a good deal for this application. You will get 1 year of update protection and can update to all minor and major releases within the next 12 months.

Jerry Stites Look, this is a very nice program that almost everyone will want. BUT, hey look around, we are in a super recession. Things like this are 'nice to haves' and are non-essential. henceforth, not on most shopping lists. If you really want to sell this product now, slash the price significantly. Thanks for your hard work however, looks like a nice product!

Eric Windmeier We cannot change the discount to 50% for the moment, but what we will do is to set the update protection for this promotion from 12 months up to 15 months for who have already ordered and will order from promotion site!

disappointed existing-customer First, there was this backup extra charge of $2.XX

Then there is a "Surcharge" of $3.XX

This is ridiculous and I reject on principle.

I don't really need the program but figured that $9,99 was OK
but not $16, after adding the "fees" and the retail is only $20

I joined Iconico for less than 30 days and I am beginning
to see problems with this service.

The last one had a product that was selling for $XX,XX when a search on google shows that the original product was only X.XX.

Apparently Iconico bought the resell rights to it and jacked the price to 6X and offered a 50% off at 3X --- no bargain.

Iconico should appreciate that I even bother to tell them what I think. Most customers won't and simply detest.

This post is not flattering, but it is time Iconico stop thinking that its customers are fools.

I am increasingly finding that Iconico is not such a bargain, and the less than sincere way it treats its existing customers is a big turn-off.

I meant to buy NoteTabPro but I'll pass, since I don't really need it.

If Iconico persists in its misguided ways to gouge its customers, it's going to be downhill all the way from here.

What a waste of time!

Peter Wallace Look at the price for Totalidea TweakVI - it is double / triple the normal price for X-Setup Pro. I have not used either, but you do have to factor pricing in, and with the discount it is 4-5X more expensive and you also don't get all the features with the lower version - kind of shady.

I just bought the X-Setup since it has 1-year of upgrades - and with Windows 7 coming out it will be handy to have around.

Eric Windmeier The backup is a service from the SWREG payment provider that can be removed from the basket. And if you pay through PayPal, SWREG wants a payment fee. These fees are not made by us, the makers of X-Setup Pro, but are legitime by the seller SWREG.

Roger Thomasson @disappointed: Yes, as Eric stated, the backup service can be removed, and paying with PayPal adds a fee (because PayPal itself adds a surcharge for the use of it's service). Many, many, many eCommerce providers build backup service cross-sells into their purchase pages, and we've never had a complaint. Not even once. I'm guessing that's because most of our customers notice the obvious "remove" and "trash can" links that are typically adjacent to the extra purchase options.

As far as your assertion that we artificially inflate and then offer a correspondingly higher discount... prove it. Give us names, dates, and dollar amounts, because I take strong offense at your accusation. We broker each of these deals individually, and after a few oversights in the early days, make a special point of verifying prices. Moreover, despite your claim, we don't resell licenses at Iconico Daily Deals. We operate via standard affiliate relationships and use existing links and coupon codes provided to us by a vendor. If there was a deal where the standard price of the software title was cheaper than our discounted price, we would have had dozens of comments from our loyal watchdog customers who do a pretty good job keeping us on our toes. I'm guessing that you're confusing a standard license with a commercial license or something like that.

But of course, since you neglect to use specifics (or even real dollar amounts), there's no way I can adequately address your concerns.

And let it be known: Your post has the attitude and style of those written by a very persistent and very annoying troll that has been plaguing our boards lately.

Eric Windmeier X-Setup Pro runs under 64bit, but if you make 32bit tweaks, these will be ignored. so I rather prefer to say, that X-Setup Pro is not fully compatible with Windows 64bit.

Jean-Louis Jelpy Is it possible to augment the minimum size of the side scroller with X-Setup Pro?

It gets so ridiculously tiny as to become very cumbersome to "grab" to scroll down a page when the content is very long. Especially when using the trackpad on a notebook.

Guy Simmons 1) Does 9.2 have the tweaks for IE8 server connections (which are different to those for IE 6&7)? )Will still buy as I have the details and modify the plugin).

2) I have had issues with VAT not showing until AFTER I have bought a product using Plimus. Can you confirm that I will see the full price before I purchase via SWREG?

3) Will I be charged the UK VAT rate of 15% or a higher rate?

Thanks

Terence User What the **** is this $3.50 US 'surcharge' for Paypal 'manual handling fee'?????????

I have never seen any other company charge a 'manual handling fee' or surcharge for Paypal payments, and I refuse to pay it. I want to use Paypal so that you do NOT get my credit card details.

Too bad. I wanted this software purchase today but I guess I can live without paying $3.50 US more than anyone else not using Paypal! Grrrrrr.

Roger Thomasson @ Terry

Apologies, SWReg (the payment processor for this particular title) does in fact charge a PayPal handling fee. While I'm not 100% sure why, I imagine it has something to do with the fact that PayPal takes it's own cut from the purchase price, which could potentially end up costing SWReg money.

Just my theory though, I have no idea why some other eCommerce companies don't feel a need to charge this fee. Perhaps for the most part credit cards represent a high enough % of sales that the PayPal costs are minimal?

Regardless, this is definitely on our follow-up list.

Terence User If that is the reason that SWReg cites when you follow up, then it's spurious. ALL payment processors, including Visa, and all other card companies and the various other payment options they quote, 'take a cut'.

The thing that really made me angry was quoting that surcharge as a fee for 'manual handling'. What manual handling/processing? All Paypal transactions and transfers to and from credit card companies and its own clients are handled electronically and instantaneously? There is no manual processing.

The $3.50 USD Paypal surcharge would be bad enough on a purchase at full price (i.e.$USD19.95 - or roughly 22%) but at a discount price of $USD11.95, that equates roughly to 34% !! I can't see any supposed claimed Paypal 'cut' being anywhere near either percentage.

I think I'll pass on this one altogether.

Eric Windmeier Dear Jean-Louis,
no sorry, we are not aware of any Windows setting that allows to expand just the scroll bars.

You might be able to increase the size when using a big font theme (Windows XP) or using "Make text and other items larger" (Windows 7).

Eric Windmeier Dear Guy Simmons;
as far as we know there is no difference between the registry layout of IE7 and IE8. If this is not true, you are free to send us the details and we'll patch the plugin ASAP.

I'am not sure about the VAT tax because the product is sold from USA. But I think your local VAT tax is added onto the price.

R G I was looking forward to buying this, but I have to agree that an additional $3.50 is "too much". How SWReg can justify a "manual processing fee" for PayPal orders is a mystery to me.

$11.95 + taxes + $3.50 makes this deal less attractive. I know there's nothing to do about the added tax, but I for sure wasn't expecting the payment processor to add additional fees. I have NEVER seen that before (and I buy quite alot of software using PayPal). Perhaps you should consider finding another company to handle your payments, because that's just not cool.

Eric Windmeier We agree with you that this manual handling fee for a PayPal transaction is definitively to much. We will forward this to SWREG.

Our proposal for all PayPal buyers: 4 additional months of update protection ... isn't that a deal? If you pay per PayPal contact us at support@x-setup.net and send us your SWREG order number.

Roger Thomasson @ Terry and R G

I'm convinced -- I'll also lodge an official complaint with SWReg. They should know exactly what effect this arbitrary charge has on customer perception.

I hope that Eric's generous offer is enough to sway your opinion on purchasing X-Setup :-)

Sorry for the annoyance, I wish there were something that we could do this late in the game!

R G Kudos both to Eric/XQDC & Roger for acting on this.

Yes, the extra months of update protection sure sounds like a good deal. I already purchased a license though (not through PayPal), but I am sure others will find that deal attractive :)

Jean-Louis Jelpy I too must voice my concerns against very questionable SWREG business practices!!

I've been burnt twice by them. Even tho the second time I was not attentive enough, SWREG put the trap there in the first place!! I clicked on a link from an email, thinking I was going to their website to get more information and bang I was told I just bought an extended availability of a registration code of a program I had bought thru them a few days back. It was NOT EVEN an extended download availability, just the registration code was saved for an extended period!!

First time was this very same "Manual handling fee" I was forced to buy, associated with another program I bought thru BitsDuJour.com a little while back.

This time I want to buy X-Setup Pro. But I'm torn between boycotting SWREG for the reasons invoqued, or benefitting from the generous offer from today's developer.

I'll finally buy it thru SWREG given the extended updates bonus offered here, since I'm presently voicing my concerns against SWREG practices, and since ours will be forwarded to them.

Terence User I'm fairly certain that charging any sort of a surcharge on a Paypal transaction contravenes the TOS of the contract between Paypal and payment processors/software developers - I have such a contract myself. More importantly, charging a surcharge on Visa transactions - whether through Paypal or not - definitely contravenes Visa's TOS.

I decided to buy X-Setup Pro today because of Eric Windmeier's offer of extra months of protection and because X-Setup Pro is superb software, but other developers should know that I and others will not buy their software if SWReg is their payment processor. I don't like being charged absurd and unjustified 'surcharges', even if the amount charged is trivial.
