Have you fallen into a typical routine when you're writing -- one that involves saving your document, hitting spellcheck, then tediously going through each flagged misspelling, from one end of the document to the other? Why not implement a solution that automatically corrects while you type, a solution by the name of Zero Click Spellchecker!

Zero Click Spellchecker works with almost any program that you can throw at it, including email, internet browsers, text editors, and word processors, automatically detecting and correcting misspelled words as you type! Designed to work better than any integrated auto-correction program, Zero Click Spellchecker will boost your productivity and efficiency like never before.

Even as Zero Click Spellchecker works to make sure you never break your stride, you can keep track of each correction, thanks to an unobtrusive window that pops up in the corner letting you know that a correction has been made. While this info window automatically disappears after a few moments, you'll always have the ability to switch it off completely. It's up to you!

Tony Haynes Let's hope it's better at spell-checking than it is at highlighting incorrect sense:
'automatically detecting and correctly misspelled words' (sic)!

Thomas Holz @Tony: Oops, sorry for that. We'll correct it of course. Please note the program checks only the spelling. It cannot check your grammar while you type.

Stephen Kunkel Looks pretty cool! I frequently blame BIll Gates (i.e. the Autocorrect feature in Word) for my bad spelling because it fixes your mistakes with no feedback. Your ZCS provides a very nice graphic feedback of the changes made. I suspect that this will have less of a "dumbing down" effect on my spelling :) It's a bit of a resource hog at 27MB RAM usage.... Not that bad though.

Feature idea: integrate some type of "quick add to library" feature....

Thanks for offering this Thomas and BDJ A+ !

Thomas Holz @Stephen: Thanks. Actually the program learns automatically if you "undo" any change with the undo-hotkey.

27MB is more than it uses on my PC (18MB), perhaps you have more languages enabled. But is it really so much? On a PC with 2GB (which isn't much today) it's 1% of your RAM. And don't forget that the program has to react in real time, that's why it needs all the dictionaries in RAM.

Stephen Kunkel Yea, I suppose 27MB is not a lot these days :)
And you're correct, adding extra dictionaries does seem to increase the RAM usage. I've tried it on Vista and on Win 7 and it seems to work well. It doesn't conflict with Word's built-in AutoCorrect, which is important.

I'm not sure if the "space before a colon" is working. (Maybe this is a limitation to the demo version).

Also a couple cosmetic items:
The help tip for "Do correct forgotten letter" says "z.B." rather than "e.g." LOL.
The help tip for "Space before a colon" actually shows a period.
e.g. " ." rather than e.g. " :"
The hints for the items in the "Don't Correct" Tab don't seem to be turned on.

Not sure if this is feasible, but if a person could import the .acl file (i.e. the Autocorrect Library") from office it might be useful. (ZCS would have to then remove duplicate entries though).

Lastly, in the "add your own replacement rules" dialog, I'd recommend an equals sign rather than the arrow - simply because it's quicker to type... That's just a personal preference though ;-)

Again, A+ :)

Thomas Holz @Stephen: Thanks. "Space before colon" is actually a translation error. Should be "Space before comma". So the help tip is correct.

But "Space before colon" sounds useful, too. I've put that on the to-do list.

I've changed the "z.B." to "e.g."

Sascha Tuberkel What kind of dictionaries does this program use? (...how many definitions...?)

IMO the dictionaries in OpenOffice or LibreOffice e.g. are not very complete.

I would want to use Spanish, German and English spell-check.
Does this Software support this languages?

Thank you for the Giveaway!
Mar 13 2013 at 5:29pm Copy Link

Thomas Holz @Sascha: You're right, a good dictionary is vital here. That's why we use 2 for each language. The open source dictionaries used in OpenOffice and commercial dictionaries from PolarSpell.

The software has dictionaries for American-English, British-English, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish. And some computer languages: C++, Java, JavaScript, PHP, HTML.

* Does it have audio feedback? Does it have an option to NOT make a "correction" without permission? I can't have a program silently making changes to my text, while I'm looking elsewhere. The HTML/PHP dictionaries are a *great* feature, But I need a beep or something to attract my attention when it makes a change.

Ralph Bressler Walt Johnson - The best way to answer your questions is to install the trial. There is audio feedback. You can ask the program to ask for a confirmation before correction. You may add or delete words in the dictionary. You may also do some phrase expansion.

Right now I am trying to decide whether to stay with As-U-Type or change to this program. I also use Phrase Expander which overlaps in some areas.

John Moverley Ralph,

Is it just words in the "My Words" that you can delete or is it also the main dictionary and if so how?
Mar 14 2013 at 10:19pm Copy Link
0
Thomas Holz @Walt: Yes, there's audio feedback. And if you want, you can tell the program that you want to confirm any correction before it's done.

@John: You can delete any word from the main dictionary by adding it to the "I'm never using" list in the options.

Nebulous User Thomas - I would normally install a trial version to check my question but am simply short on time. In MS Word and also in Chrome's spell checker, I see the squiggly red line below a word while I type to tell me that it may be misspelled. I can then change it, right-click to let the software change it, or add it to the dictionary.

I think this is preferable to auto-correct and also preferable to having to run a spell-check after I type a document.

Does Zero Click do something similar? The description here leaves me concerned, but maybe you can alleviate that concern.

Thanks,

~ Nebulous User

Thomas Holz @Nebulous User: Sorry, not sure what the actual question is. But if you want squiggly red lines, right clicking, selecting and clicking instead of auto-correction, then Zero Click Spellchecker is by definition not the right software for you.

Ralph Bressler I just went into Ultraedit and typed the following "words" without any response from ZSC. I rechecked my options and they all seem to be correct.

abdominal dally inforation inormation inklination feeline beelinne abruppt bycicle

I use As-U-Type and have had some "arguments" in the past about how it works. The point is that it DOES work. I think I will pass on this program as there are just too many questions about how it works and how well it works.
Mar 15 2013 at 5:56am Copy Link
0
Thomas Holz @Ralph: Just retyped your words (not easy to mistype on purpose) and got corrections. So perhaps it wasn't correctly installed or not enabled. Or another guess: If you use ultra edit in full screen, then ZCS is automatically disabled (because of computer games).

Nebulous User Thomas -

Thanks for the reply.

My question was simply whether ZCS can be set to point out my errors as I type them without auto-correcting them, and whether it allows me to add on to its dictionary when it doesn't know a word that is actually spelled correctly.

Sounds like "no?"

Thomas Holz @Nebulous User: No, in that case it's a "yes". You can tell the program to correct only if you confirm it with a hotkey. And you can add your own words to the dictionary.

John Moverley I am a scientist and dyslectic.
Thus require a good spell checker this is the fourth such program I have tried and after a few days of trial consider it to be the best.

One hint though is to increase the default message time until you get used to the program.

John Moverley The mind mapping program Xmind pro interferes with ZCS. It does not cheek spelling in this program, if Xmind is open full screen and you are working in another program on a second monitor ZCS does not work. If Xmind is open in a non-full screen ZCS behaves strangely. If Xmind is minimised ZCS is fine.

Nebulous User Thomas -

I downloaded, installed, and registered. I then typed the following both in into MetaPad (my standard plain text editor) and Notepad:

"U am triing to gwr this sogtware to cach an eror and it isnt doinh anythhing"

No effect. Also, as I type this comment, ZCS didn't complain about "MetaPad."

The software is definitely running - I see it in my taskbar. And I checked the settings - everything looks like it should be working.

Suggestions?

Thomas Holz @DrTeeth: It's not the same binary as the regular one for technical reasons. But it's the same features and you can download it again from the ITSTH server, even after to promotion is over.

@Nebulous User: Please check if there's a green check-mark on the Z-tray icon. If not, it's disabled. Furthermore click on the Z and check the languages-tab. Is English enabled? Then check the revision-tab. Was anything recorded here? And finally: The program has to work with algorithms, so it can correct quite a few of the typos that you made here. But not all. "Gwr" is a bit too hard. We plan to include miracles in version 2.0. Perhaps. ;-)

This also happened to me a couple of other times before and I can no longer use that software because I didn't receive the authorization codes for them, fortunately, these were not the programs I paid for from you site. Constantin Florea Hi Glenn. I have just checked and couldn't find your email address in our sales records however I noticed that your email on your BDJ profile has two "g"s and two "n"s and the Glenn Hoskins I found in our order has a very similar email (one letter different) with two "b"s, two "g"s and two "n"s. I believe you wrote your email wrong when ordering. Unfortunately I cannot change your data (name, or email) in our sales records which means you should try purchasing again with your correct email address.

Gary Hudson @John Moverly and @Thomas Holz,
I'm an XMind user and used to have a Pro account for 1 year. XMind and XMind Pro are the same program, a pro subscription unlocks all features. I recently had to reinstall the program and had an issue with it. (not related to this program) In researching my issue, I noticed what was probably always true, that XMind relies heavily upon JRE (Java Runtime Environment) and/or JDK (Java Development Kit).

I'm not a programmer. So this isn't even a hunch, but I'm wondering if ZCS trying to do real-time spell-checking in that Java environment / session might be hard to pull off. Just like context sensitive right clicking in some Windows software doesn't always allow you to do cut/copy/paste operations with your mouse/keyboard.
