Ring Zero How do I go about cancelling an order? I just ordered this and I received an e-mail from Element 5 stating that I would receive another e-mail with the information I need to register the program. The only e-mail that I received right after that was login information for Element 5, which didn't help. Not interested in having to chase this down and would rather cancel the order.

Johno Hi, can you clear something up for me ? hopefully soon so I can know whether to purchase or not before time runs out. I decided to go and have a look at the MediaMonkey online site. Media Monkey itself, with pretty much all the features this page has spoken about, is FREE !. You can see this if you look at this MediaMonkey web page: http://www.mediamonkey.com/download/ This page lists the differences between MediaMonkey (the FREE version) and the actual version you would need to pay for, at a cost of $24.95 USD - which is called "MediaMonkey GOLD". So, I am hoping that this one offered here through Bitsdujour is actually MediaMonkey GOLD, because otherwise why are we paying $14.97 for the free version?. And, if it is for the full MediaMonkey GOLD version, why doesn't the title of this Bitsdujour page in all its headings and titles say 'MediaMonkey GOLD" ?? Its just confusing and not clear. I am interested in purchasing but yeah, please clarify this. Thanks, Johno.

ps. can you also please provide an option to upgrade to the Lifetime license in relation to this Bitsdujour offer ? Thankyou. Richard User Like others who have already posted, I already own a Media Monkey Gold Lifetime license. Media Monkey is an excellent program, VERY capable. If you are really into managing your media collection - sorting, filtering, creating playlists, editing tags, syncing to other devices, setting up a media server, having a "jukebox" for parties, etc, etc - this program will do it all. It handles my 300,000-plus music files easily. There are tons of features. It takes awhile to appreciate everything this app can do. Did I mention it can use many WinAmp plug-ins? Also, there is a very robust support and discussion forum.

The free version does a lot. The Gold version does more.

DougandBethany User Have 2 questions about Media Monkey - would like answers prior to purchase:

Can you tag ALAC files? My current process is to rip a CD into FLAC on my computer, but when I need to sync it to the iPhone I then need to convert the FLAC file to ALAC. I am realizing this is just eating up extra space and moving forward plan to just record the CD into ALAC format. But I do not see where tagging ALAC files is an option.

My second question deals with cleaning up existing files. I have numerous files - both FLAC and MP3 format - that I know are missing songs, duplicates, have only part of a song recorded, etc...Does Media Monkey provide a way to identify these missing/bad files?

Russell Samuels Johno; You're right--the promo should have been titled 'MediaMonkey Gold'. Thanks for your perseverance re. the store--I'm in touch with Digital River to find out what the problem was.

Doug and Bethany: Files can be converted to ALAC and tagged like any other format. i.e. To convert the files to ALAC you can either:
a) Manually select the files in question and use Tools > Convert, and then select the ALAC M4A format.
b) Plug in your iPhone and configure the sync profile to automatically convert flac files to ALAC (iPhone Sync Profile > Options > Auto-conversion). Note that this is a Gold-only feature.

To tag files (ALAC or any other formats), you just edit them in MediaMonkey. Note that when you sync/autoconvert flac files on your PC to an iOS device, the FLAC files tags are automatically migrated to the corresponding ALAC file that is transferred to your device.

Re. your second question: MediaMonkey has a 'files to edit' function that helps you find and edit (or delete):
- Tracks that are duplicates
- Tracks that are missing specific information (e.g. Title, Rating, Album Art, etc..)
- Tracks that are missing

Richard User @DougandBethany, I can help with your 2nd question. First, I don't know how any app could know if a track you have is only part of the song.

On missing files, I assume you mean you have, say, 3 songs on an album and would like to know if that album has other songs you don't have in your collection. There is a free add-on filter to show albums that are "missing" track numbers. For example, you have tracks 2, 4, and 5. It would display the songs on that album, and you could see that you have no tracks 1 and 3. However, it wouldn't know that there is also a missing track 6.

There is, however, a number of tools to help identify missing/bad data and duplicates. There is a "Duplicate Titles" filter that shows where you have more than one instance of a song title + artist combination. This filter is a little picky in that the title and artist name have to be an exact match, although it ignores differences in capitalization. There are a number of native filters to show tracks that have missing data: lyrics, title, album name, year, rating, and so on. The free add-on filter I referred to above can show "inconsistent" data - for example, a case where you have two track 2's on an album, or a track title that has a missing parenthesis [in other words, it has a "(" but no corresponding ")"].

Take a look at the MediaMonkey forum on their website. There is a ton of discussion there about what MM can and cannot do.

@Russell Samuels - I like the Auto Conversion you described. That way I could still maintain my FLAC library on my PC and only convert - I assume on the fly - those files going to the iPhone. As it is now I have a copy of a given CD in FLAC and one in ALAC, which is redundant. Not sure why I did not just start recording my files in ALAC, I think I remember reading that FLAC was better when I started this project years ago

@Richard User - I currently use dgPoweramp to rip my cd's and they have a function called PerfectTunes which finds Album Art, edits metadata, removes duplicate tracks and checks for ripping errors against AccurateRip. But dbPoweramp is not really designed to be a music manager. It would appear that I might be better maintaining dbPoweramp for its functions and using Media Monkey for its strengths.

I'm a bit confused abt the *Portable* version.
So, I just deploy the app in a External HDD, enter the RegKey and it's activated, right??
Where can I dwld a 'Portable Gold' ? Or does the Portable Free version becomes Gold, once one enters the RegKey?

Tortuga: 'Portable mode' just means that it is installed in such a way that it can be run directly off a USB key/Portable drive. So to answer your question, 'yes' you can just install it in portable mode and then enter the license key to activate the Gold functionality.

Russell Samuels It's pretty much a new product built from the ground up to serve as a base for the next few years. Some new features are (not all features are complete yet):
- automated metadata lookup, improved metadata lookup for non-music types
- integration with 3rd party music services and storage services (Google Music, Youtube, Google drive, etc.)
- improved UI/navigation
- built to allow for cross-platform support
etc...

Russell Samuels Yes--there's definitely no need to upgrade to V5 since it isn't even yet released :-) Keep in mind that V4 Gold users are automatically upgraded to V5 if they've purchased V4 within a year of V5's release. Lastly, all existing MM Gold users that don't qualify for the free upgrade will receive a discounted upgrade price.

Rick I am a bit hesitant to purchase MediaMonkey because I was unable to locate customary information regarding Ventis Media and MediaMonkey on the merchant website (e.g., corporate address, telephone number(s), years in business, business philosophy, privacy policy, etc). This is not to imply the information is not available; however, I could not readily locate the information on the website. I was able to locate the sentence “Ventis Media is headquartered in Canada, with offices in Montreal and the Czech Republic,” and the end user license agreement. If available, may I please receive URLs for customary company information and your privacy policy?
